    thanks for the info Meaker

guess when they made this series they hadn't perfected the whole transfer between the 2 video chips.

but what if we swap cpu, that would restore it back would'nt it ?

Like I said the pcb needs to be laid out correctly so even if you turn the igp on its like leaving a fish out of water, its just flailing around uselessly not able to do anything.

ah ok, so msi made absolutely sure we couldn't get the intel hd graphics for whatever reason.

that sucks, maybe in another gen, i mean all laptops have it now, it should work in here too.
i just need the videocard when i game. and i would love to be able to rest my fan more often.

Like i said its a screamer this thing, for whatever reason it seems the fan pulls in or pushes out so much air that it whistles, its a low whistle barely audible but sitting in front of it for hours u can hear it. i think it might come from either the grills in the back or the holes underneath the keys. eitherway it gets so bad i have to turn it off soemtimes or use noise dampening headphones.

It meant they could use amd cards if they wanted and optimus was not yet mature at the time.

yep, i think i read something like that, but we're talking a year ago, my GF's hp is older and has it built in.

so as a reseller, have yo heard of recent models that have that ?

I think asus is the only one avoiding it now, all current msi models use it.

is it normal for my GPU voltage to jump from 0.8000 to 0.9200 when gaming? I'm only noticing this now with GPU-Z. HW Monitor was always showing it only go to 0.8700 while gaming which I thought was stock voltage?

Yes, your GPU lowers its voltage when idle as the idle clocks dont need load voltage to be stable, this saves power and lowers noise. I forget which powerplay brought this in, but its been like that for a while.

    the screamer, design flaw.

i think i'm zeroing in on the cause of the whistle in the laptop.

1st i took out the fan, and turned on the puter a few seconds just long enough to make sure it wasn't the fan or the bearings. i only heard a low hum and wind from the fan. nothing out of the ordinary.

but looking further into the chassis, shooting air here and there with my compressed air can, i heard a high pitched noise that sounded like the whistle when shooting air inside the chassis from where the fan would be, now at this point idk if its the internal conduits that are too tight and producing this noise or the black plastic film covering the metal around the fan, but seriously this is getting noisy.

Take a look at these pix, notice the black film is just hanging there, flapping in the wind, literally, like in summer when you take a strand of grass and put it between your thumbs and blow on it.

    100_5405(2).JPG 100_5407.JPG

the other cause could be how the components are laid out just around that windy area. bad design.

its not that loud but it becomes unbearable after hours using it.

its clean inside no dust as you can see, but i'm thinking just bad design on the component placement (caps, etc). the wind flow produced by how the air moves around the components must be causing the whistling.

idk what else to do, i don't want to sell it but its driving me nuts lol.

Well something is loose and flapping if the fan is outside the case and sounds normal, have you checked under the keyboard too as the fan does draw air from there.

that's my next step, i'll see if i can remove the keyb and listen to find the noise.

edit: watching this video how to disassemble this laptop, watch closely at 1:24 and notice the black film is also at an angle in their video,
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=DmUOPBAt1PI#t=84s

so that can't be it, i mean someone at msi wold have noticed it if it were. i guess.

The black plastic film under the fan in my GT780DX is fully attached to the metal frame with only a small unattached place where the metal step is.

My DX is really quiet except when the turbo fan is on but even then it's hardly noticeable because my headphones are on.

Probably medium for the 570M, maybe some high if it's very well overclocked.

    1600mhz CL11 modules that can do 1960mhz 9-9-9-25 1T across 4 modules.

Setting that would make hyper-X and vengeance memory go cry in a corner.

The unlocked bios at least on the 16F3 and GT60 (and I think the 16F2 had it too) have memory timing options.

I think more than 12GB of 1866 will result in BSODs with an HM67 chipset and 2nd gen i7.

To use more than 16GB your need 1333 and an OS that supports more than 16GB.

    16GB(4 x 4GB) of Kingston PnP (gray spreader) DDR3-1600 9-9-9 worked well in my GT780DX with W7 x64 HP.

The pressure on the heatsink is very good and the MSI uses posts rather than a backplate.

My plug for the power cord keeps falling out (back of laptop),
is there any solution for this?
Maybe an adapter plug that is at a 90 degree angle?
I think I remember reading about this maybe 300 pages back but Google won't split it out when I search for it...

First make sure the soldered connection to the motherboard of the DC Power Jack in the notebook hasn't become loose.

The MSI plug on the end of the power adapter cord is 5.5mm x 2.5mm.

I don't think the connection piece to the motherboard is loose, the plug just wiggles loose sometimes because I mostly use my laptop on a lap-desk.

    Hi again.

I have another problem which occured today. I absolutely can't boot on usb anymore. And seems my bios is really messy. I flashed back to original bios 1 month ago. Everything was going smoothly. But starting from today, in my boot bios options, i have like a thousand times my dd written, and no other options. Just can boot on my hard drive. But no other boot option avaible. I tried my usb key on another laptop, that works perfectly.
And if i try going inside bios, everything freeze. Just moving from one option to another takes like 10 mns.

So is there a way to reset bios from scratch ? removing battery ? unplugging everything and waiting some times ?

And will it screw my raid configuration ?

[edit] : ok solved. Had to physically unplug hard drivers/blueray/wifi card. No more options for bios to boot but USB. Then was able to flash, and everything is fine now.

Sounded like your bios was not written correctly when you put it on originally and it slowly corrupted over time, make sure you put the latest version on.

Is there anyway to get boot drive + 2 msata raid0 in this notebook? I'm assuming it cannot support super-raid. The only option then is to have 2x 2.5" ssd for raid0, one in optical caddy?

The GT78x series has the Intel HM67 chipset

I've uploaded the 1761_30HU.rar unlocked bios to my mediafire account.
    1761_30HU.rar

I recommend the MSIHQ Tool for bios updating.

The optical bay is only SATA II 3GB/s while the 2 internal SATA bays are SATA III 6GB/s.

Renice has an SATA III mSATA Adapter that fits into a SATA bay if you want to use mSATA SSDs.
Renice mSATA to SATA II SSD Adapter | My Digital Discount

I don't recommend Raid in these notebooks and Raid on client SSDs.

It's better to get a single SSD of the largest capacity you can afford and use that as your primary boot drive.

Either a Samsung 840Pro or OCZ Vector would be good choices or wait for a Crucial M500 to be available.

is your laptop plugged in at all times ?

does your battery get charged fully ?

if you take out the battery and run it, does it change plan then ?

well, I've determined my reboot issue is directly related to my GFX card. My comp won't reboot if I disable it in device manager, within minutes of enabling it, if anything puts ANY kind of load on the card immediate reboot, its gotten to the point of sometimes not even making it to the login screen. So at least I have some new info for MSI to look into when I send it in for warranty! So odd that my card went bad and the temps were always stable.

    hey guys,

@WTP: i'm looking to get a 3rd antenna for my killer 1103, i was wondering how to install it, if i didn't want to open the screen, is it doable ?

They're pretty cheap like 3 or 4$ on amazon, should i keep the ones i already have and just add a 3rd or change them all at once?
