Send AMD some reports and perhaps they can help to fix the issue on the next release.

@WhatsThePoint: So how are those repairs you did to your hinges working out ?

what was the mix of epoxy you used ?

it looked like white glue from a hot glue gun, idk if that would work but it's worth a shot for those who have a broken hinge.

The power circuit may not be able to handle 580M due to extra wattage required for the 580M.
    This is a hardware limitation.

I say vBIOS problem. Try to flash MSI 580M's vBIOS first.

You never said anything about turn off and restarts. I guess it just isn't compatible. You may ask svl7 to modify vbios.

Ok i have one idea GT780DX with 570M doesn't have optimus. GT 785 with 580M have optimus. I think this throttling makes optimus whose doesn't run on GT780.

Hmmm on bios card we can off optimus ?

If I remember rightly the GT783 with 580M did not have optimus either.

Overheating of CPU or GPU will cause the throttling to happen, and if it's extreme then the system will simply shut off.
The other throttling is caused by insufficient power flow but it is controlled by EC firmware so even if you change the AC adapter to 1000W but the system will still allow 180W to come through.
For power supply, it simply provides power but if it's overloaded then it will cut off without notice due to overload protection so it should not cause any throttling.

Ok i set the performance profile and of speed step and again i have throttling and when GPU is in use 100% shut down my laptop.

I look dell, clevo, and MSI bios in GTX 580/675M

Dell and MSI have 0,85-0875v on P0 and P1 Clevo have 0,9V on P0-P1

My old GTX 570M have orginal frimaware 0.9V on P0-P1 and was overcloacking on 750/1950 I never have Throttling on 570M and takes more Watts them 580/675M in normal Cloack.

I have a GT780, MS-1761, whose graphics card just died on me. The graphics card that broke was a GTX 560M, MS-1W041 VER 1.0.

The problem is that I can't find a replacement one of these anywhere. I've found a VER 1.1 GTX 560M on ebay; does anyone know if this would work without requiring any major changes like new BIOS? Or does anyone know of any other cards that a relatively computer illiterate person like me could install?

Any help would be MUCH appreciated.

I'm sorry to hear that. Have you searched the thread for GTX560M replacements?

Also, you can contact RK computers, or any of the vendors you have seen in previous posts.
I'm sure someone will have a replacement. Don't forget to replace your thermal compound as well, when you place the new card in. Good Luck!

If you buy any GPU higher than 560M (like 570M) then you also will have to buy heatsink/radiator.

All-in-all, I would either find 560M for very cheap or just would sell this laptop. Because that kind of oney which you gonna pay for GPU will be twice the value you will get from it.

I've searched everywhere, but can't find the exact version of the GTX 560M card that I have. That's why I'm trying to figure out what I can replace it with. The problem is, I don't know anything about BIOS, or how to change it, and I would rather not have to buy a different heatsink.

I've managed to find a VER 1.1 MSI GTX 560M, (mine is VER 1.0), but I don't know for sure if that would work. I've also found a GTX 560M made for a Dell laptop that someone else was able to make work, but I also know that I would have to do something to the BIOS to use it. Does anyone know if the VER 1.1 card would work?

That is problem indeed because since your GPU died you are in the situation where there is almost no easy exit.
You don't need to look at version. You eed to look at manufacturer. From what laptop is it taken off.

I see 560Ms for 200$ or so and these prices are crazy. I wouldn't buy it even for 100$ even if had bad laptop.
    Here you are:
570M Nvidia. Ask from what laptop is it pulled off. There is a chance that from MSI. Also Clevo and Alienware may be fine but may be not. And if so then you will have to flash vBIOS for making it as MSI's one and still who knows if that 100% will help.

Take the chance to upgrade, the GTX770M is a slot in upgrade, I know majster msi was selling the card and heatsink in the members market and I see cards at least on ebay. This is no way an endorsement by me or PNB though.

You can tell it is made for an MSI laptop from the fact that it has an MSI code (MS-1W051) on it, right?
If it is from an MSI laptop, would I have to make any changes to my BIOS?

I'm not looking to spend that much money.

Yes, I have a feeling that MS-1w051 means it was pulled from MSI. In this case you just put it in and it works, that's it. Just ask to be 100% sure.

I asked; it came out of a GT780DX.

Now, won't the GTX 570M draw more power than the GTX 560M? Will my hardware support this?
I believe that a GT780DX needs 180W, while my GT780 only draws 150W. Will I need a new power supply?

The cheapest 560m I could find is $200. Do you, or does anyone else know if the upgrade to that $100 570m would require a change in power supply or other hardware?

The difference between the 780 and 780DX lies in the power supplied to the MXM slot. There is a pin which gets that extra current supply rerouted directly from the motherboard. Placing that 570m might work but not under stress. Once you reach the power threshold (148W in your case) the power supply will overheat and the notebook will shut down. And there's also the risk for the power supply to malfunction and output more voltage and damage the motherboard. I would not risk it.
A v1.1 card means that the components and/or the connector routing have been improved (later revision).

I don't know anyone who upgraded GPU from GTX560M to GTX570M in MSIGT780 and had any problem. That's the first time ever I hear this theory. Perhaps it's true and you get troubles if put more powerhungry GPU like 580M, who knows. But here I see a guy who is in real need of GPU and a missing lot of 570M for 99.99$. Ha-Ha. I would have bough this myself if had spare money LOL.

P.S. I wrote this post 30 minutes ago but decided to wait till auction ends. People should learn on mistakes. And you learn quicker if those mistakes are yourth.

Oh, bad bad bad. Anyway, try again. Power button and then press F2 couple times for first 4 seconds. Then press F9, Enter, F10, Enter. This should load Optimised Defaults and not just defaults.
If it doesn't work then... it was a stupid idea to make a modded BIOS with modded settings and not just a BIOS with opened settings.

Send me that BIOS, I will have a look.

Who modified the bios originally? Do you still have it? If you have the file svet over at MSI could emulate the file and tell you the string of inputs to go to dedicated.

Also who on earth made a modified bios for the GT780 set to IGP, that will brick any machine.

raycol, unless you give us that modded BIOS we can't help you because you need:
    1. bootable USB with BIOS - that's easy, right?
    2. Select to boot from flash drive which is almost impossible to guess. You will have to press F11 after power button and in a blind way select device (move arrow up/down ad Enter). You will never know if you selected USB flash drive unless LED will start blinking on that drive.
    3. type flash.bat and ENTER. - easy, but it will work only if you correctly selected USB flash drive on the stage 2. That's it. Go create bootable flash drive, it must be with LED and play guess game.

    PE-RI-OD.

I remember hearing they did not like the non optimus systems. But I have not personally tested it. The 770M is the safest bet.
