It really is a preview so expect bugs, let us know what you think however as I am curious if MS can correct their mistakes.

I've been installing MS OSs since the DOS days

Haven't had any Preview issues yet.

Updated a few drivers, installed my wireless printer and scanner software, installed Office and a few other frequently used software and 1 FPS game.

Also have a copy of the Preview running on spare SSDs in my desktop and MSI GS60.

Boot ups are quicker but I haven't had any increase in wireless performance on the internet or across my home network with an AC-7260 paired with an R7000 on 5ghz.

It's unlikely to help that to be fair on the wireless front. Have you played around with what channel you are on?

All MSI GT models use direct to dgpu connections so the gpu has no problem with it. It comes down to odd bios issues kicking in or not.

To install a foreign card, there are several issues.
    1. Card & MB compatibility (Power, and Pin-outs)
    2. Heatsink compatibility

I doubt if there's any users that have access to both items to be able to verify such compatibility.

    Hello Guys!

Does anybody have something like a pack of drivers which are required for Windows 8.1 installation? My HDD broke few weeks ago and I lost some data including drivers for 8.1 so thought maybe some of you keep things like that in cloud or can upload for me so I can simply download it at once, excluding GPU drivers.
    Thanks very much in advance.

    Cheers!

You can use some of the Win8/8.1 drivers from newer models such as GT70 but no one can guarantee compatibility because MSI never certified nor supported the system under Win8.x.

I calibrate my GT780DX notebook screen every few months. As a screen and graphics card age the screen needs adjustment.

If you have the stock GTX570M and original CHIMEI lcd screen model N173HGE_L11 I'll share my newest monitor icc color profile created yesterday using an i1 Display 2 colorimeter.

If you upgraded your monitor or/and graphics card this color profile probably won't work.

    Monitor_10-16-2014_1

How to use color profile on Windows

Put the icc profile in Windows>system 32>spool>Drivers>color folder

Go to Control Panel -> Color Management -> Add
Click on the color profile, and select "Set as Default Profile"

I don't know if this is the right way to post a question, but trying anyways. Apologies if I did this wrong.. :)
I have 2 GT780DX's and had an accident with a travel trailer and now 1 of them has a problem with the image. Not the screen i think. It boots up green, snowy and has, different per screen that pops up different color spots. If in control panel there is a pink ...smear/spot at all lines and also next to mouse cursor 'following' the cursor. This tells me it's not the screen? For "process of elimination" I exchanged the GPU and it does the exact same thing, which indicates it's not the GPU. Also, different from my other GT780DX, the HDMI doesn't work with my tv. Either the shock did this to (her) MSI or there may have been some moisture involved. (It was a ...disaster...total loss of the camper, like it exploded, but it left my other MSI fully intact. Given the exchange of the GPU would it be fair to assume that the motherboard is shot/damaged? (Exam with magnifying glass shows no visible damage or moist. The "pattern" of the graphics is exactly the same with both graphic cards and changes depending on which screen is processed. Btw...awesome puters and design. (so easy to change drives and open the pc without a crowbar! Hopefully this "problem" is known to a technical person here, because I don't know what else to research in the pc. Thank you very much upfront if anybody is 'familiar' with my problem? :)
    Thank you,
    John

Was the GPU replacement an MSI GTX570M graphics card?

It may be impossible to find the source of the issue without taking it completely apart and checking all parts and connections.

Another option is to send it to MSI for repair with the original parts inside.

Third option to sell it as is for parts on ebay.

Thank you for taking time to answer. No, it was not replacement gpu, it was the GPU out of my other GT780...everything original. and you are probably correct in sending it out to msi because i do not have the skills, besides noticeable damage, to diagnose such a problem. I did not completely dismantle the gt780 but "studied" the motherboard and the like when the back cover was off. No visible damage, cracks or moisture markings there. Pretty sure at this point it is a motherboard issue, since all graphic 'distortions' repeat the saame on every screen. Those distortions do differ depending what screen is open though, but repeat exactly per different screen.
    Thank you
    John

I had a 3rd party 3 year warranty that paid for a new motherboard, graphics card and 2 x4GB ram modules early this year.

If 1 had to pay it would have been over a grand and I would not have done it being that a working GT780DX could have been bought on ebay at the time for $600.

If it were me I'd sell the parts or the whole notebook as is and put the money together with what repairs would have cost and get a new model.I have a new GS60 and it's sweet.

You can order one now with a 970M graphics card.

It also has the new Killer N1525 wireless card and an M.2 SSD

Hi guys, I just want to know which ram is a popular replacement RAM for this laptop. I have 3 4GB ram right now, but one of them is busted, which is causing random BSOD. I just want a normal replace ment that is not too expensive.

Also does it matter whether you install the RAM in the front or back slot?

If your CPU is i7 quad core you can fill 4 slots with 4GB modules.

Put the ram under the keyboard or in the bottom if you are only installing 2 memory modules at this time. They will work in dual channel mode if both are in the slots in the same location.

I recommend using 2 matching modules in each location.

Slots 1 and 3 are accessed through the bottom and Slots 2 and 4 are under the keyboard.

    I have 2 x 4GB Samsung DDR3 1300 in Slots 2 and 4 under the keyboard and 2 x 4GB Elixir(Nanya) DDR3 1300 in Slots 1 and 3 in the bottom.

    They are 1.5V with 9-9-9-24 timings @666Mhz

You can also use 2 or 4 DDR3 1600.(Kingsto HyperX 1600 work well in GT780 series)

If you want to use DDR3 1800 then you may be limited to using only 2 modules working without issues.

That RAM is low voltage (1.35v) which is designed for the 4th gen CPU's. The GT780/783 use the 2nd Gen so you want 1.5v RAM.

16GB is nice to have so you dont have to worry about upgrading it again anytime soon.

Just wondering, is it a common problem for the GT780 graphics cards to fail? Im purchasing one fitted with a GTX560M thats faulty (lots of artifact and lines on screen, not detected by windows) for 150AUD and am going to attempt to fix it. I have a spare GTX260M Id put into the laptop to test if it is the 560M thats broken.

It may work, but compatibility would be the only thing to set you back.

Haven't seen one yet, since 765M is mostly used as a soldered GPU but not MXM card.

Do you reckon GPU failure is common with these laptops or is it just a rare occasion that depends on the quality of the MXM card?

No problem, sometimes it's rather difficult to isolate the root cause without having spare parts.
And even if you were able to source spare parts it's possible that you do not know whether they are functional or not.
GPU MXM card is definitely very expensive to purchase when compared with the motherboard.

The GT780DX models have been successfully upgraded with GTX770M graphics cards but modded drivers are needed. No heatsink change is needed

Going from a GTX560M in a GT780 notebook a heatsink change is needed since the 560M heatsink doesn't fit on the GTX570M or GTX770M

Investing all this cash for a new GPU in a 3 year old notebook IMO is not a good sound investment

Replacement parts have usually no warranty or little warranty.

Right after you replace one expensive part another expensive part may go belly up soon after.

Bite the bullet and get a new notebook or a used one that has some warranty left on it.

yep kind of sad. And i just can't get the vga port to render a good quality. It's all blury/messy.
I'll have to buy a HDMI switch.

    Or i'll just buy a GT70 with I7 3xxx and upgrade it. Don't want NOS .

Id like some clarification on an upgrade path for my laptop. I have a broken GTX560M in my GT780 that Id like to replace and Id like to know whats the best GPU I can upgrade to? Are the new Maxwell cards (970, 980) compatible? Is the heatsink currently attached on my 560M not compatible with any other GPUs? If so where abouts would I be able to source a GPU and a compatible heatsink in Australia?

The double heatsink that has the heatpipes to both the GPU and CPU is more expensive than the heatsink that was stock on the GT780DX that had a GTX570M.

The GTX570M heat sink is cheaper and will work on a 770M if you can find one.It should be at least $20 cheaper.
