I'm not in the US either, but I suppose Canada is close enough. Pretty sure I either used PayPal (credit card).

Omega did a bank wire transfer to RJTech as he is also outside the US. He had no problems at all with them. They are great.

    screen brightness problems, try this:

Go into the power settings and set the "choose what the lid does " setting to "do nothing"
save changes , then shut the lid and reopen.

    ---and / or---

A quick fix was uninstalling the monitor device (NOT display adapter) in Device Manager and then scanning for devices again.

Thanks again, but this does not work for me. Tried them. Even tried someone's registry edits. No dice.

Brightness is adjustable when using the Microsoft Basic Display adapter driver, but once I install the Nvidia driver, brightness controls no longer respond.

    Hello everybody,
As you, I have a MSI GT783-659 and since 2 or 3 month, my laptop restart randomly without blue screen; it can be just 10 minutes after the start or 1 hour... When I run a game, the computer restart after 5 or 10 minutes but it restart also when I'm just on the internet...
I checked the temperatures, the rams, the Hard disks but everythings seems OK. Also, my drivers are uptodate.
I recently added a SSD and transfered the OS => restart again
I tried to reinstall windows => restart again.
I also added 8Go RAM =>restart with or without this new ram...
So it seems obvious that it is a hardware issue. But what?? Graphic card? Mother board??...
    Do you have an idea?
Thanks in advance and sorry for my poor english.

Seems like you had done a lot already in terms of troubleshooting.
Can you run memtest to verify system integrity?
    And then run 3DMark 11/13?

    thanks for the answer.
    memtest86+: everything's OK
3DMark 11, the computer hes restarted before the end of the first sequence...
so it seems it's a graphic card problem... what do you think?

Sounds more like an overheating problem especially since it happens when gaming and its a sudden shut down (thermal protection). You said your temps are OK, but what are they at?
Can you also monitor them while you are gaming or running a benchmark to see what they are maxing out at.

Have you opened up the bottom of the computer to clean out the vents and fans, dust will accumulate on those over time which will cause higher temps.

    What GPU do you have?
Hutsady pinpointed your problem, the GPU overheating.
All the scenarios you posted involve in some form or another a GPU acceleration. And since your model doesn't have Optimus I'd say that the mxm card is the culprit. Check the temps and report them here. Nvidia cards reboot the system at higher than 95° to prevent damage.

It's most likely a graphics card issue.
If it overheated then it could reboot too.
Check with MSI to see if it's still under warranty or not. If it's out of warranty a repair still can be obtained through a non-warranty repair service.
Also, refer to your purchase invoice or receipt to find your purchase date.

    Thanks for the answer.
So I have a GTX580M. I don't think it is a overheating problem because when the computer restart, it takes about 30s (thanks to my SSD) and just after the restart, I checked the sondes with Aida: the GPU temperature was about 70°C (less some times). I don't think it can decrease a lot during the restart time... Also, My fan works fine and I have the same results even if I use the fan button to run it at maximum. Also, I used Aida to run a stress test on my CPU and the temperature didn't go upper than 70°C that's why I think my fan works.
Also, everything is clean in my computer: no dust and I changed the thermal paste on my GPU.

For info, I bought my computer in April 2012 so no warranty...

Had the same problem long time ago with my old gt683. After days of testing, found out the problem came from the PSU. Originally 150w, it couldn't deliver more than 110w. So while computer was asking more power => shut down. Don't know if you have a wattmeter ( don't know how to translate, something to mesure ). Maybe not this, just a hint.

If you ran 3DMark 11/13 and it shuts off that way then it's probably the AC adapter.
If you have a power meter then you can use it to verify its wattage output.

ok... so I don't really understand what's wrong...
I'm not able to mesure output tension of my power supply; it indicates only 0.5 V... but I can start my computer just with it (battery unplugged)...I'm not good for electronic...
But it seems easy: voltmeter configured for 20V, the red connector inside the plus and the black outside. For the intensity, it's not better: I have 0.
    3 options:
    - My computer can run just with a AA battery... (would be great)
    - There is a ON/OFF system in the power supply to deliver power only when computer in plugged
    - I'm a very bad electronics technician

Hey guys, so I have thoroughly read most of the topics here and I'd like to ask if my old GT780R (it's does say MS-1761) would work with the Clevo AW 770m (upgrademonkey's) See, I'm not sure if mine would be compatible as mine came with an i5 and not an i7 along with a 560m card.

    Best regards,
    Jake

EDIT: If it's any help, I have Xonar's modified bios (30e.)
Will the 770m work straight up or do I have to modify the vBios FIRST before doing anything else beforehand? (That'd be a disaster as my 560m got fried months ago)
    Thanks!

For only like $70 more (I think I've seen upgrademonkey selling the GTX 770m for about $380), you can jump up to a much more powerful GTX 970m. I have one installed on my GT780R, which I ordered from RJ Tech (Clevo model, 6 GB). I have not modified any BIOS or vBios, everything is running stock right out of the box after installation. The only thing I need to do is install drivers via modded inf.

@ everythingsablur Hey man, I've also checked that one up, thing is, I'd have to use a dremmel for that right?
I don't really have the tools to modify my heatsink. (I'm actually going to buy one for the 770m since my HS for 560m isn't compatible.)

But, it's good to know that the 970m is running with just the stock bios. Are you sure you the the GT780R too? I've read that our laptop models don't give that much power compare the the DXs models.

I'm fairly certain I know what model of laptop I own, thanks to the giant sticker still on the wrist rest that says GT780R, plus the box it came in, plus the fact that I bought it.

Yes, you do have to dremmel the heat sink to make it fit, but that was pretty easy. It was also cheaper than buying a new heatsink.

    Hah, I'm sure.

Alright, thank you for your input. Only thing that's holding me down is, upgrademonkey's 970m is around $600! and I don't think RJ tech ships internationally.

They do ship internationally. Omega got his 970m shipped internatoinally and had zero issues. The RJTech 970m for $450 is the best deal you'll find anywhere on the net at the moment. The difference between a 770m and 970m is HUGE.

I agree it's a very large upgrade, just be aware there will be tax to pay most likely if shipping international (which I believe they do).

Alright guys, I'll try to contact RJTech. I'll also just be modifying my heatsink just like everythingsablur!
Could I get away with an i5? Although I've been looking around on ebay and I've seen i7-2630qms for a hundred(used though) do you guys recommend those?

EDIT: So RJTech replied and man, the shipping cost is around $100! I'll be nothing but broke after this.

Hey guys. Where's the best place to get a GT780 battery? RK Computers has it for $154.99 but I was wondering where you guys think I can find a genuine part for cheaper or is RK the only place to get it genuine.

Also can you get a stronger battery for it? Was not impressed with battery life doing non-gaming stuff browsing etc back when it was new.

hey guys long time no see.. its been 4 years since i bought this notebook and i am starting to have some bsod issues with nvlddmkm.sys [IMG]

I tried to do the expansion and replace in the system32
Did a drive sweeper and uninstall all nvidia graphics driver.

In the end i am still having issues until i remove all drivers + nvlddmkm.sys.

Once i remove all nvidia related. The screen will still show red / white rows with the same windows (picture attached )

Also it states that the nvidia graphics card is not exist but it do exist but stopped working ( code 43 )

Basically the GPU or the display is dying. This never happens to me in the past 4 years

I clean my computer inside out at least every 3 months and no overheating issues.

anyone know where to buy a replacement that is affordable or upgrade to a better gpu with special heat sink bundled ?

You are unlikely to find a bundle for MSI for your system, however you can keep a look out for the two separately. A 970M with heatsink from the latest GT60/GT70 (they fit) would bring your machine bang up to date gaming wise. If you have less see if you can find a 780M (680M/780M/880M heatsinks all fit) for cheap as that is also a big step up.

Hello, I purchased a GT783 back in 2012 and have recently run into some random restarting problems. After some googling it seems like this is a pretty common issue for this model and is caused by overheating. After reading some of the earlier posts I'm thinking about buying a GTX 970M. If I'm not mistaken, since I have a 580M, I would only have to dremel the heatsink and it would fit? I'm also looking for suggestions on a new thermal compound (AS vs IC Diamond), apparently the stock one failing is whats causing the overheating problem. Thanks.

Have you tried to clean up the heatsink/vent? Because this is a common problem for any notebook.
Once a system is used for a long period of time its fan will be clogged by dust for sure.

Yup, I opened it up and cleaned the vents and heatsink yesterday. There was a lot of dust buildup, and once it was clean, the restarts weren't as frequent, but still occurred.

If your notebook from 2012 has never had the old thermal paste removed and a new quality paste applied then it's time to do it.

I've used Tuniq TR-1 and Arctic Clean for years to remove the old TC before applying the new.

AS5,ICD24K and MX4 are all good quality TCs and if properly applied they will have similar cooling +/- 1 degree C.

The MSI factory applied MX2 is a good quality TC but I've found that they put on way too much.

I use the surface spreed method of applying my TC but other methods can produce good results also.

Just use enough TC to fill the metal's pores, machining marks and uneven surfaces where air can hide.Air is a poor conductor of heat so any trapped air will hinder moving heat from the chip to the heatsink.

The more metal to metal contact the better the cooling will be

EDIT:I repaste my 3+ year old GT780DX about every 6 months

Applied MX4 to my gpu and cpu today, was able to play a lot today with no restarts.

Can anyone confirm that all I will need to do is modify my heatsink in order to upgrade to a GTX 970M? (Currently using 580M)
I know I will have to download the modified drivers.

Hi, you can modify a heat sink or buy a original one designated for GTX 970m card, aslo you dont have to modifying any drivers iv your card has a MSI vbios.

Are you sure you want to put the additional money into a 3 year old model?

A working good condition GT783 should fetch $600+ selling it.

Put that together with the cost of a new 970M and maybe a new MSI heatsink for it plus shipping costs and you may not be that far from the cost of a new notebook with a warranty.

I can get a 970M for $450 and everything else on the pc isn't too bad I think. i7-2670M, 16GB RAM. If it's still not worth it to further invest in this PC, can you recommend a newer model? Also, where would I sell this thing?

MSI GT780 DXR won't start/power respond to anything.

Hello, my name is Nick and am having issues with my MSI GT780 DXR.
    PROBLEM:
I have had my GT780 DXR for a couple years. The other day my GT780 DXR kind of made a strange glitchy noise and at the same time the screen became glitchy for about a second and then turned off. Coincidentally I had to go to work at that time, so I just left it alone. I returned home from work and my laptop would not start. The LED lights do not turn on at all and I get no response when I click the power button.
    SOLUTIONS TRIED:
I've tried multiple solutions. I've taken out the GPU and tried to boot the laptop and received no response. I've reset the CMOS on the mother board. I've held the power button for 30 seconds to remove any static discharge. I've plugged it in with the battery and without the battery and still no luck. I've also tested the power supply voltage to see if the power supply has gone bad and it has not. The voltage on the sticker says 19v and I was receiving readings of about 21v. I've also inspected the motherboard and parts for any burns or damaged looking parts and have found none.
    THOUGHTS:
I am very confused on what is causing the issue. I'm wondering if there was a short on the motherboard close to the power supply connector (or a short anywhere on the motherboard). It is not under warranty, so I am trying to figure out the problem before I do send it in. If anyone has any information, thoughts, ideas, and suggestions I would be more than happy to hear them. Thank you in advance if you do decide to take the time to help!
    EXTRA INFORMATION:
Here is some information that may or may not be of use, but thought it wouldn't be bad to add. I usually leave my laptop on for about 10 hours, sometimes more sometimes less. I always have it plugged in to the wall even with the battery in it.

    @snowmanboy

If anyone has tripped on the power cord going into the back of the notebook or the cord was pulled to the side it's possible that the power jack that is soldered to the mainboard broke away from it's soldered connection points.

To get the best view of the soldered connection removal of the graphics card is needed.
Sometimes wiggling the power cord where it enters the notebook will show lighted LEDs on the front of the notebook. Then you will know that it's the problem.

Since you've checked the AC Adapter we can rule that out.

If DC jack is broken off the PCB and PCB isn't damaged then this is easier to repair.
But if it's a PCB damage then it's more difficult to fix because you may need to change the PCB instead.

Yes you can sometimes use solder bridges to help but it depends on the level of damage.

    UPDATE
I took out all the parts, memory, hard drives, GPU (graphics card), and battery. Turned it on and it worked. I put each part back in one by one (except for the battery, I left this out the entire time) testing power after installing each part. I was successful in powering up the system after each part was put back in, except for when I installed the GPU. The system would not boot/power. I then took out the GPU and tried turning the power on and it still would not turn on. I had to emulate what I did prior, which was taking out all the parts once again and putting every part back in besides the GPU. I'm guessing this means my GPU is faulty/destroyed/bad? Is this fix as simple as buying a brand new GPU, popping it in and firing it up?

Thank you all for your replies, they have definitely helped thus far.

So, i'm banking on the fact that my GPU has been officially annihilated. I am planning on purchasing a new graphics card, but I am seeking the advice of my MSI notebook friends (you all :))

    I have a MSI GT780DXR. It is an Intel Core i7-2630QM / DDRIII 12GB (4GB*3) / 1TB (500GB*2 RAID 0) 7200RPM / 802.11 b/g/n. It had a NVIDIA GTX 570M 1.5 GB GDDR5 card in it (R.I.P).

Budget is my main concern when considering this new purchase. I seek a card that will perform basic tasks (Microsoft word, Adobe Photoshop) and run simple games on simple settings like (Civilization, World of Warcraft, League of Legends). I did some research on this forum and found posts talking about the positivity of performance and ease of installation with the NVIDIA GTX 970M. ( http://rjtech.com/shop/index.php?dispatch=products.view&product_id=30307)
$450 for a card that is incredibly strong and will do more than I want or expect is something I will consider. BUT if I can find a card that is a lot cheaper and can produce the desired results I have listed above I would prefer that option (strapped for cash student).

I would appreciate any information, suggestions, and advice on this topic from all you MSI pros out there. Thanks in advance if you decide to post.

    -Nick

If you can find a 770M for cheap that will work too.

Thanks for the suggestion. I find it very hard to find a reliable source or store on the internet for laptop video cards (maybe that didn't sound right, I mean it is hard to find a good selection). Do you have any suggestions for good reliable internet stores that sell laptop video cards you can recommend?

Hello. I purchased a GT780DX that was in disrepair. It needs a screeen and some cleaning. I'm looking at upgrades and I noticed MSI has a Super Raid adapter. Would this adapter work for this model? I tried searching and got results, but clicking those results did not take me to the correct post.

I apologize if this has been discussed before.

    It's incompatible with this unit.
The best thing you can do is to create a RAID 0 array using two SSD in the system to achieve your goal.
