Cool! Please let me know if the notebook fits well. If it does, I'll add it to the "Suggested Backpacks & Cases" section of THIS post.
Easy on the spirits now.........

Two new bios updates HERE, released yesterday, 8-16-2011.

Disagree. I went for a 128GB sata III SSD for the system drive. Having cold boot times of <20s is very atttractive, and nearly everyone I know is looking at this option. Biggest barrier is not many brands offer this. Even though MSI have this as a standard model in some documentation I have yet to find a vendor that offers this as an MSI off-the-shelf laptop.
Same applies to many others. So desire is not limited here by price but by availability.
You can spec this from Dell for the XPS but only if the USA (if you really want a Dell...) -
msi should give the early adopters (with the 560m) an opportunity to upgrade to 570m for a reasonable cost. this sucks!
-
i couldn't install/flash it...it was stating something about an incompatibility with 64-bit windows. anyone else have this issue?
-
Hi,
I have the GT780 single drive which has the WD Scorpio Black drive and I have obtained another Scorpio Black.
What have you done about the caddy for the second hard drive? Where do you get one from?
At the moment, I've just wedged something in front of the drive so it doesn't have any free movement.
I'm finding that caddies are special to the manufacturer so I'm trying to get a part number or a webside.
It's probably not unique to the GT780 and may be used in other MSI models.
Tomorrow I'll discuss with the guys who sold it to me, but I don't think it's a generic item. -
-=$tR|k3r=- Notebook Virtuoso
What method are you using for the flash...... DOS mode with bootable USB flash drive? First format your flash drive, FAT32, 4096 bytes (this can be helpful prior to using UNETBOOTIN)..... then follow these instructions carefully.
Since your system has a RAID controller, you will want to update with this bios file only..... 1761 308.zip! Ignore the the other bios file (1761 108.zip), because it is for models that the mainboard lacks a RAID controller.
I hope this helps.......
-
you only install it using DOS. not dos under windows.

GT780 doesn't have caddy for 2nd hard drive, it only has a piece of rubber to secured the drive, watch the youtube video at 12:16:

From the factory they have a rubber block on this model to secure the 2nd HDD. We have the Hard Drive Bracket available for the 2nd drive if you need one. The bracket will secure the drive much better than the rubber block. -

The new vga cards and heatsinks are not usually avaliable until much later after the initial release of the notebook and are quite expensive. They may be available 2-3 months later.
MSI does not market the VGA as "upgradable" so you will be on your own for the upgrade project. -
Lol, awesome video, I studied it carefully and then I checked the box it came in and there was this piece of rubber in it's own little baggie packed amongst the manuals.
Thanks heaps.
The video showed me lots of useful information.

I got the rubber AND a propper bracket. -
In Europe prices DXR models and this Samsung should be equal (about 1700 €

Looks like a dual rear vent machine, nice, but still very much high end, I dont see them taking it down in specs and price.
-
It looks nice and all but will be expensive, probably atleas $1500.00, and also 570m > AMD 6970. Anyone know it's ETA?
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
No, 6970 > 570m, quite clearly I might add.
If this continues I am going to have to correct that misconception.
People are dreaming if they think an established arch and chip are going to see 20% performance increases through drivers. -
Damn, you must have got the GT780 R
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Ah it was the 16F2 barebone (15.6" model).
Seems silly not to spend a penny on giving your customer a bracket. -
Really? I don't think so.
Link says samsung is $2600 http://www.engadget.com/2011/08/18/samsung-series-7-700g7a-targets-gamers-with-monstrous-size-and-s/ -
thanks! i'll try that out, i appreciate the help. it's funny, i think the last bios update i did, it didn't require a separate boot disk.
-
i like samsung products, but objectively speaking, i think the msi gt780 looks a whole lot better. can't wait to see the performance specs on the samsung though. the guy in the video was horrible at narrating...was kind of painful to listen to him talk.
-
Don't forget that this is european price, in the states it should be at least 20% less.
-
Do you know what changes have been made with the new BIOS (308)?
Many thanks -
Hi to all,
i am new here on board and have my GT780 since a few days here in germany.
Tryed to load the nbdriver from the msi site to make a bios update but the links did not work anymore and i can't find the file on msi site.
Anyone can help?
Greetings -
Hi!
I have recently bought a 780r. But playing bfbc2, i always get fps drops. I ran afterburner next to my screen, and it seems that the gpu usage just drops, without aparent reason. Its always at 90+ percent, and suddenly it drops to about 20%, making it almost unplayable.
it did this with standard clocks as well as overclock (920/1840/1400) (is this to high? runs perfectly on furmark and no overheat so far.)
i tried updating to the newest drivers as well as older drivers, problem remains.
i checked the last few pages of this forum but nothing seems to pop up, sorry if this has already been dealt with.
Does anyone else experience this? or know a solution? this would be of great help!
Thanks -
I run SSDs in my PCs as well and yes having sub 20 second boot times is great but average Joe consumer still needs lots of space vs a lot of speed and a little storage.
For the price of a 750gb 7200rpm HD you can buy a 64gb SSD and most people think thats nuts and would rather sacrifice speed for LOTS of space.
Does not matter what you and i think personally is better so i guess you read what i said the wrong way lol.. -

It corrects the issue of the system not booting when an external USB drive is plugged in. It also changes the default boot priority.....
Boot Priority changes to:
1.ODD
2.HDD
3.USB Device
4.Lan
Note:
1. If the ODD inserted is not bootable (DOS, WinPE, or OS), the system will automatically load to the HDD.
2. 3XX bios for RAID (mainboard with RAID controller); 1XX bios for NON-RAID (mainboard without RAID controller).

Ok, seems i found the problem. Mid-game, the cpu throttles down to 700 mhz, causing a major bottleneck to occur, so it is not a vga problem. is there any way to prevent my cpu from going so low? When it's running at 2.6 Ghz, everything goes perfectly fine and i get over 70 fps, but then it goes down to 700, and fps lowers to 15-20

For those that can't wait, NewEgg has the GT780DXR in stock - probably not for long now that it's been posted.

So those 570M overclocked scores are 5% ahead of a stock 6970m.
Thats in vantage run at 1280x800, where the reduced mem bandwidth and ROP count wont be biting so hard.
As the resolution rises they will only fall further behind. -
will GT780DXR have barebone version? What will be the difference? From where will we understand that it is barebone. sorry for lacking of knowledge about MSI at all
-
I think Rob from RK computers mentioned sometime in September for a Barebone version .

NICE! Ken has the GT780DXR-099US models Too! Mine will be here SOON!
-
After i have checked the layout of the notebook i think it should be possible to replace the 560M to the 570M after that grafik card is available. Also if MSI will not sell a upgrade.

Somewhere just yesterday, I read where Rob has back peddled on this estimate a bit....... take a peek at his recent post.

Strange...... it must be something on your end, because all of the MSI links are working fine for me...... both USA & European. Try deleting your browser history and cache, and try again.

I did not post anything about the barebone yesterday?
I had posted about the possibility of VGA card availibility. The GT780 barebone from what I have heard is still mid to late September and has not changed as of yet. -
so release date is mostly known but what about differences with current one? Any official news about it?
-
[email protected] Company Representative
The specs are not released yet but it will probably be the same as the current MS-16F2 barebone. Does not have all the features of the branded.
No backlit keyboard, no turbo, no cooler boost, etc. It will have the same chassis design but different color scheme and will have the 570M VGA. -
So that means that barebones are worse than current gtx780dxr? I thought they are better
No need to wait them then
-
[email protected] Company Representative
Not worse but it does not have some of the enhanced features. Some of our customers actually like the design of the barebone better. -
Thank you for your clear and quick answer Rob!

try this link. for some reason i was having issues, too with the link from the pdf instruction file.

hope that helps.
