Great, thanks for the vid! I saw the one you posted for Crysis 2 as well... A bit lower in fps, but still very playable. I was impressed.
Hard to tell from the vid... was that with the DX11 patch in Crysis 2?

Count me in the minority group. I only have one on my desktop system because I won it in a competition. If you have the funds go for it. Just understand it is a large investment to help the drive companies work out their firmware and mean time to failure.
-
Any owners/resellers have some input on these issues?
-
Ken, when you opened up the box for the laptop did you get any free game coupons or game trials from MSI or Nvidia?
-
Hey has anyone else pre-ordered from Xotic PC and/or know when they'll start to get the 780DXRs in stock?
-
No problem.
The Crysis 2 was tested without the patch because I didn't know about the patch at the time.
It came with Lara Croft and StarCraft II trial. -
Hi, I was wondering what is the difference between MSI GT780DX and MSI GT780DXR, besides the RAM and HDD? Is it the chipset?
-
The substantive difference is the video card: 560M v. 570M.
Homer -
Sorry, but it is not the card GenTech PC - Customize System GenTech PC - Customize System , but maybe I don't see it.
-
The R stands for raid (GT780DX R), the base configuration comes with raid-0 enabled.

The select handful of sellers that are getting them are all getting the same quantity. We expect our shipment this week and will be notifying the first customers in line for them.
(099's) The remaining models are expected in around the 1st week of September.
We have ample stock of the GT683DXR. -
Ah, so, if you put another HDD and enable Raid-0, you can call DX a DXR and if a DXR has Raid-0 disabled it can be called DX. Well, Thank You for clearing that up for me.
-
Ok, Thanks Justin. Ordered the 095 model a couple weeks back. Hard to wait for.
-
RAM and HDD are the only difference.
-
What are the differences between the barebone and the 780DXR?
The barebone seems 200$ cheaper with the same hardware...
Moreover, realistically, how costly is it to ship to Canada (for vendors like Gentech, Xotic, etc.)? What are the applicable taxes, shipping charges and possible border/custom fees?
The only DXR I see available in Canada currently is the 099 at 1900$ CAD, but I'd gladly settle for a minimalist barebone and then go for a ram/SSD in 1-2 years, considering it seems to cost ~1400$ for the barebone + shipping. -

Yes, we ship to Canada. You would be responsible for any GST/HST/PST. To see a good chart showing the tax in your area please go to A & A Contract Customs Brokers - Online tax tables, Canadian PST, GST, HST tax tables online.
For further information just call or email me. -
Don't know if any new information has come out since this post.
-
Backlit keyboard is useless to me.
As for turbo/cooler boost, is it really that useful, and can't it be emulated through software/BIOS?
I care mostly about the dynaudio spreakers and steelseries keyboard, and those seem intact.
Thanks. -
Dynaudio yes, Steel series no.
-
I just bought a new GT780DXR and want to thank everyone for the great information in this thread. I have read all the posts and downloaded all the files, info needed.
I do have one question. There are a number of MSI utilities on their website for this notebook but I don't see anywhere that describes these and says what is good and what is a waste of time.
Can you point me to this or maybe there is no utilities that are worth installing.
Jim -
My bad... I missed the DX in both your original model numbers. Nevermind.
Homer -
It was a tough choice. Do you really think I made a mistake? Both seem to rated good. I guess if this drive is a problem with this system I still have time to change it. Thanks for your input.

OCZ forums are full of customers with Vertex 3 issues.
-
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
We have hundreds of both Intel and OCZ Vertex 3 drives in the field. As long as they have current firmware we do not find one to be more reliable than the other.
-
I understand your dilemma. I have a OCZ Vertex 2 on my desktop system and it has done very well. For a short time I was ready to get a SSD for my GT780DXR. After researching I was leaning toward the Intel 510 or the Crucial M4 C400. I decided against SSD due to storage needs but was concerned about issues as mentioned above concerning OCZ.
I am sure there are thousands of satisfied Vertex 3 customers but appears those not happy are extremely vocal. Do you research and make your own decision as you are the one that needs to be happy with it.
Btw Thursday is my big day. Tracking data says that my GT780DXR will be delivered by end of day. Yea!
-
As an OCZ ssd owner I agree, stay away.
-
Congrats Man. Gentech is quick and Ken had been very informative as well supportive. Mine is still in the customization phase. Will get probably by next week.
Are you planning to review performance of few game titles? -
barebones have this turbo/cooler boost function or standard 780dxr????
-
Barebones does not have turbo/cooler features.
-
I have an OCZ Vertex 3, all OK!!
-
barebones???

Barebone notebooks are ones you finish building yourself.
They miss out the CPU/RAM/HDDs/Wireless.
Then again a quick google search would have told you that....... -
I've been thinking, the DX-X8 that is sold on powernotebooks is the same as every msi 780 right as in easy to uppgrade. Keeping in mind the import tax of 25% here in sweden, would it be an idea, well in terms of pricing to simply get the essentials and then when i get it myself look to uppgrade some of the other parts (mainly HDD and RAM). Processor would only be if i got the money to.
Considering that the only model sold in sweden costs 3.2k USD (19.990 swedish crowns). i would save alot of money, and the model in sweden comes with a 120 gig SSD and 16 gig ram which doesn't interest me alot.
Also, would 8 gig ddr3 compared to kingstons 8gig ddr3 setup make any major difference performancewise? -
did anyone try to install Ubuntu on this laptop?
-
25% import tax is a lot, but at least it's not like Egypt's 300% import tax!!
It's a good thing I got the notebook when I was in the UAE, which only had a 5% import tax
-
I have 2 OCZ Vertex 3's in RAID 0 with firmware 2.11 for two months. No problems at all and my 780R is FAST!
-
The mistake was getting an SSD instead of a larger physical drive.
-
I did in a VM on my GT780R. Runs fine.
-
Thanks. I hope your system is not far behind. As my first purchase from a reseller that customizes (always built myself or egg'ed it) the Gentech experience has been great. Ken has gone above and beyond what I was expecting.
I plan to post my initial experience with the new unit. My main reason for getting the GT780 was to have a system that could easily handle Premier pro and Photoshop work while being somewhat portable (no laughter please
). Once I get things setup I will see what I can do to provide data on games.
-
If I want to install it normally, I have to break the raid-0 right?
-
Yes I agree Ken has gone out of way in recommending very useful things to me.
I would be interested in knowing about your experience with Photoshop too. I guess you will benifit with GPU acceleration (Am not sure). I too have always built my own Desktop. Normally I buy a laptop and upgrade it over a period of time. With Gt 780DXR it looks apart from Processor and GPU (maybe when you have 32nm fab GPUs with similar power consumption but higher performance) there is nothing left to be upgraded.
By the way if anybody can tell me if there is any spare PCIe slot available inside GT780 DXR. -
Anyone know when gt780 dx x8 will be available?
-
I will be sure to let you know. Photoshop and Premier will use as many resources as you can feed it especially if your dealing with HD video. The GT780DXR will allow me to work anywhere in the house rather than being stuffed away in a room tied to the desktop.
-
overclocking the gtx560m nets me a .1 increase in my windows experience ratings for the graphics and gaming categories, from 7.2 to 7.3. just curious, what are the stock and overclocked windows experience ratings for the gtx570m?
-
Curious if Windows experience translates into real world performance?
-
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
Better to ask us directly by email or phone (1-877-711-1777). Do you have an order in? -
With my 683DXR, I got a 7.5 on stock and a overclock of 700/1400/1800.
-
i'm not really bothered by the windows experience, and real world performance is relative to what you use the notebook for. i'm just curious about the number change/difference since it's a type of a benchmark (not a good one, but still).
thanks for sharing. what were your indexes after overclocking if your stock was 7.5? -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Here is the system in my sig, I get the same as you cenix, 7.2 stock, 7.3 OCed:
But it's really just fluff. -
It was still 7.5. It didn't move!
I Need More Powa!!!!!!!
