How did you reach 1800 Memory clock? The max. is 1625 on my laptop.![]()
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
I use nvidia inspector, MSI afterburner sets arbitrary limits on the clock sliders.
I am sad my core is quite weak though
-
To anyone who's succeeded in doing a fresh windows install like myself, what are you using for a display driver? As MSI's Site is carrying a 560M driver that will not work, and none of the Nvidia.com drivers will correctly work.
Rather annoying -
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
Use the one that is on your Drivers disk.
-
This laptop came with 0 Disk I must inform you, my good sir or else I would've just done that
-
I can upload the one off of the disc for you if you want. Just let me know.
-
That would be awesome, because I didn't get a disk apparently I even double checked the box a minute ago.
But a tip for anyone who does this, make sure to get the Intel Raid drivers on a flash drive for when you install Windows, saves you a few hours of headache -
thanks for sharing meaker and keith1341. i appreciate it.
meaker, i was going to ask the same thing about your memory clocks. thanks for sharing the info... unfortunately for me, i don't think clocking an additional 200mhz on memory is going to change anything performance-wise on the gtx560.
but your core speed does seem low. i get 940-950ish before getting unstable but i saw a guy post up a pic of his overclock (i forget who), i think it was like 980's or something. pretty crazy. i keep mine at 930 and it's stable both performance and temp-wise.

Donald@Paladin44 Retired
It comes with the drivers disk from the factory...so...where did you buy yours? Ask them to give you your disk. -

Congrats. You have been waiting awhile.
Looks like we will have the same decision to make as my system is coming tomorrow as well ...... Do you go to work Friday or stay home and play.
-
-=$tR|k3r=- Notebook Virtuoso
Thanks! Yes, play time again, so I will probably off the grid a while...... but I'll try to stop in and post a screenshot or two.
-
-=$tR|k3r=- Notebook Virtuoso
LOL! I am retired, so this will not be a difficult decision for me...... BUT, you are welcome to go to work if you like! (I'll bet someone will be using a sick day tomorrow.....'cough'.....'cough')
BTW, mine is an AM delivery..... let us know when yours arrives.
-
umm... when will powernotebook start shipping ??

Hi Ken,
Thanks for helping me get the replacement keyboard for my GT780R. I got it just in time as it arrived the day I was leaving.
By the way, how does one go about swapping out the keyboard. Would you be able to send me instructions? Also, will this negate my warranty in anyways?
Thanks for all of your help. You're a good man! Ben -
Glad you received the keyboard. here is the instruction on how to remove the keyboard:
1: remove battery and AC.
2: pry the control panel from the edge.
3: remove the screws for the keyboard.
4: disconnect the ribbon of the keyboard.
Also the ribbon cable for keyboard backlkit can only be access from the bottom, so you need to remove the bottom cover to disconnect it.
I already notify MSI you will be swap the keyboard yourself so don't need to worry about the warranty. -
Thanks again Ken! You're a gem!
-
Stricker Congrats. Awaiting your videos..
-
-=$tR|k3r=- Notebook Virtuoso
Thanks F0uR1ER! Just a few more hours now...... I am still up, and it has to be here by 10:30am EST.
Videos? I doubt I'll do any videos, but I'll try to share a few things helpful. For me initially, it's PLAY TIME, and be DANG with all Ya'll!

My GT780DXR-099US just came in yesterday. I am impressed to say the least, this thing is mighty powerful and I love the keyboard. I've read about a lot of problems regarding the keyboard (especially the GT780R) but I don't seem to be suffering from any of them. I have to download all my steam games again, but once I do, I will try to get around to doing some benchmarks. Until then, enjoy some poorly shot photos I took of it.

I can benchmark up to 940mhz but it's not game stable, the pickiest game is quite funny: CS:S
It shows artifacts when Crysis, TF2, Furmark, AC:Brotherhood and Dirt2 don't. Set the core to 888mhz and it's fine.

NICE, and good to hear! Congratz & Enjoy! Mine will be here very soon!
Who did you purchase from, and where is your SIG, Soldier?
-
You might want to thanks to MSI, they have great service, pretty much the best I've ever seen in any laptop manufacturers.
-
Great News ! Congrats ! Get some benchmarks for us. And please tell us more about heat dissipation and if you try to overclock then please do mention once again about GPU temps and how is the heat below and above GPU? Thanks in advance
-
Ken is there any chance that we buyers from Europe can extend our warranty to two years from One?
-
Unfortunately not, MSI only offer one year Global Warranty.
All we need is your happy dance video post on youtube, nothing more.
-
Lucky dog.
Unfortunately I will be at work to support my technology habit.
Today will be the longest day as UPS does not deliver to my area until 6-7pm. Then I will be off the grid as well stepping through the checklist of items to make the system mine.
Enjoy! -

The X8 SKU you are offering is simply the GT780DX-215US, downgraded to provide a cheaper buying option, correct? You are selling this model at a price tag of $1559.00 with 4 GB DDR3, standard.
If we look at one of your competitors, selling the GT780DX-215US, we see the exact same system, with a price tag of $1549.00.... AND, with 8 GB DDR3, standard.
(Hmmmmm, let me see..... which would I buy?)
-
Keyboard lightning doesn't seem as bad as I heard. Did you notice any horizontal lines on the screen? Saw a couple people having this issue with the gt780r, anyway can't wait to order mine
.

My GT780DXR has ARRIVED, and it's N-I-C-E!
Now go away, leave me alone, and don't bug me for a few days!
Must be assimilated!
-
No idea, but I see no value in RAID 0 at all, so you're better off doing so.
-
Windows experience settles on the lowest score, which is most cases is the harddrive.
-
I am using 268.12 with no problems.
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Get the latest OEM drivers from laptopvideo2go.
-
I caught that price difference as well. Kind of makes you wonder what the other guys are thinking. Pay more and get less. No thanks!
-
Glad to hear it!
Remember to eat and drink. We do not want you so weak that when you come up for air you can't report to us. -
I just ordered a GT780DX-X8 from PNB (PowerNotebooks).
Upgrades:
- i7-2720QM (2.2 - 3.3 GHz)
- (comes with nVidia GTX 570M)
- IC Diamond Thermal compound (free w/Processor upgrade)
- 12GB DDR3/1600
- OCZ Vertex 3 MAX IOPS 120GB SATA III SSD (Home OS & SW)
- HDD #2 = 750GB / 7200 RPM (all those other files)
- 500GB / 7200 RPM in place of ODD (for work OS & programs)
- External ODD housing for standard DL DVDRW/CDRW
- Intel Advanced-N 6230 wireless card
- 2 extra power bricks (work, home, and one in the bag)
-
Hello,
Be careful with
OCZ Vertex 3 MAX IOPS 120GB SATA III SSD . Many people have reported BOSD although percentage is quite less.
If I was you I will save money by keeping Intel 2630 QM. Buy an OEM processor 2820QM (USD 5) and sell off 2630 QM on ebay.
Newegg.com - Intel Core i7-2820QM Sandy Bridge 2.3GHz (3.4GHz Turbo Boost) 4 x 256KB L2 Cache 8MB L3 Cache Socket G2 45W Quad-Core Mobile Processor Model BX80627i72820QM
You will get approx USD 200-250 for 2630 QM on ebay
Intel Core i7 Mobile Processor i7-2630QM 2.0GHz 6MB | eBay
You will be able to save USD 100 or so.
I can tell you there won´t be much difference in performance between 2630 QM and 2720 Qm. The only substantial difference is on die Intel GPU which we cannot use anyway. You can wait for some time before upgarding CPU and directly jump to 2820 QM or 2920 XM later
Cheers -
Overall, it's really nice. Coming from a glossy screen, it's nice not to have constant glare. The color reproduction is quite good, however the whites seem a bit off. However with a bit of calibration, this can probably be fixed. Could just me my tastes too.
I was expecting worse after seeing all the keyboard pics out there. But my GT780 seems to have fairly even lighting across the keyboard. This is a relief to me as I didn't want to have to send it back and wait for repair. No horizontal lines for me. No ghosting or dead pixels either, so I am very happy with this purchase so far. -
Thanks, I purchased mine from Newegg. And it's embarrassing to say this, but I have been having trouble finding where to edit your sig. Is it a option in the user CP, or do you have to manually add it? It's probably in plain sight and I've somehow overlooked it.
Thanks, I'll try to run some today. I am overclocking with MSI afterburner (I'll post the exact settings too), and I'll try to make sure to include temps with each benchmark. For what I've seen the cooling system is quite effective for a notebook. The GPU idles around 60C and under 80C with OC and heavy loads. I was using coretemp for the CPU, but it seems buggy with this proc (using GPU Meter for GPU temps, also MSI afterburner). I forgot mention this, but it's been said before; the speakers are really good on this notebook. The addition of a subwoofer really helps the low end that's been notoriously bad for notebook speakers. -
I've seen the comments the OCZ drives, but I also saw the 8GB issue with Intel 510 series. Supposedly both OCZ and Intel have now fixed the issues. It was a toss up. I like the sound of MAX IOPS. (I feel so cheap admitting that.
)
As for the processor, I'll talk with Donald. I would prefer to let them upgrade the CPU so my warranty stays valid. You do have a point, so I will probably upgrade to the 2820. What's another $180, right?
Is there any value in going to the fastest (1866) memory over the faster (1600) memory? It's only another $40. If I go with the 2820QM, should I also get the 1866 memory?
Thanks for the input.
-
Upgrading from 1600 to 1866 will be so minuscule performance wise it's not even worth $40.
This is for desktops but check the results:
http://www.anandtech.com/show/4503/sandy-bridge-memory-scaling-choosing-the-best-ddr3 -
There is zero advantage to having any ram faster than the stock 1333. You can put 1600 or 1866 in there, but it will still run at much lower speeds. Higher clocked ram only gives headroom for overclocking, which you cannot do very much of on a notebook, it does not equal more speed. 1600 ram is good for a desktop that you want to get over 4ghz and 1866 if you want to clock your processor above 4.5. Other than that there is no use for higher clocked ram especially on a notebook.
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Sandy bridge will operate the ram up to 1866mhz, no ocing needed (not that you can overclock the reference clock anyway). -
Can you try enabling Cinema Pro and see if the horizontal lines do exist on a black background.
Thanks
-
Great to hear! congrats!!! Do me, and the community a quick favor. Please type the following keys rapidly 3 times each to see if they all register:
1, 2 (especially 2), 3
Q, W (especially W), E
A, S, D
Also, many other keys wouldn't reigster unless you're typing directly above the key. Can you try these scenarios and see if they're satisfactory??
Thanks in advance!
Oops! this messge was directed to @GeneralEvilG. Thanks. -
My system has arrived and she is a beautiful thing!
Busy making it my own right now but a quick check shows everything in order.
Thanks to Gentech for the great service. Even though I had changes to the system, the packaging arrived in a manner that if I did not know better I would have thought it came straight from the factory.
Well going back to for now. Will post more later on what I find.Attached Files:
