Yes. The Bitspower Skylake IHS was helpful for me because it is taller and makes the CPU fit tighter.
@Rage Set is correct. The IHS was not anywhere close to the CPU or motherboard when I was lapping it, so there was no opportunity for that to occur.

i have a question!
i have tornaldo F5 with i7 6700 (65W) , 970M (81W) and 230W power adapter.
And now, i want to replace 970M with 1070, can my 230W power adapter work fine ?Donald@Paladin44 likes this. -
Yes the 230w power supply will handle a 1070. I have the 1070 and 7700k overclock to 4.5 and it works.
I run my processor to 100% running Boinc while playing games.
Why did you go with a 970mLast edited: Jul 26, 2017UsmanKhan, DuongTHVN and Donald@Paladin44 like this. -

How much of a difference is there in performance by upgrading RAM from 2400Mhz to 2800Mhz?
I don't have access to 3000Mhz Ram.
The 2800Mhz Ram kit is 64GB but if I upgrade the 32GB 2400Mhz with another 2x16 sticks I will save money which matters to me.
Is it worth it to upgrade to 2800Mhz instead of 3000Mhz?Donald@Paladin44 likes this. -

There's little benefit, not enough IMO to justify the significantly higher cost for the higher-speed RAM.

If you will not do rendering - video processing, according to @Mr RoxFox and many reviews on the network, you'd better to save money and go with 2400 MHz!
About my LCD replacement research, I downloaded datasheets from Panelook about my "4k" monitor ( Samsung FL156FL02-101) and one of the best 4k monitor on the market ( AUO B156ZAN02.3).
So, this panel has:
same bracket of Samsung's
same eDP 4 lanes 40 pin interface, with same pin pitch (0.5mm)
same backlighting
I double checked every single pin connection and all pins are the same (same function in the same pin placement), except the first pin, that on Samsung says "APS on off or no connection (optional)", and on AUO says "Frame Lock NVSR" which I believe is something related to Nvidia Gsync; I think it won't be a problem.
Samsung eDP is the 104062-4011 Connector, AUO's is the I-PEX 20455-040E-12R, both are Wire to Board Female with Pitch : 0.5 mm and side mounting.
So... I thing they are fully compatible, do you agree?UsmanKhan, syscrusher and Donald@Paladin44 like this. -

Instead of wasting money upgrading your RAM (unless you're just upgrading for higher capacity), try messing with the RAM timings for free.
What is the default CR (Command Rate) setting?
If it's 2, try 1.
Most RAM can run at CR 1T. I was even able to put 2x Hynix 2400+ 2x Kingston Valuram 2400 on a GT73VR into CR1. Free performance.
The only RAM that won't usually run at CR 1T are high speed sticks at extremely tight timings.pressing, Huniken, syscrusher and 2 others like this. -
Hello All,
Thanks for all the useful info in this thread. I was hoping that I could run my situation by you for some advice. I purchased a Eurocom Tornado F5 (I7 7700K, delidded by Eurocom, GTX 1070, 330W PSU, Win 10 64bit, Unlocked BIOS - stock settings, no overclock) and on receiving it ran some benchmark tests to see what the thermals were like.
After around 3 min in prime95 I was hitting 99deg on one of the four cores and the CPU was throttling with fan on Turbo mode (See first screenshot).
I sent it in for servicing and finally got it back today (they redid the delidding and heat sync thermal paste, and said it passed stress testing). On running prime95 today, I'm still seeing it throttle after core 0 hits 99deg after a couple minutes. The other cores hit 97, 88, and 91 peaks, but generally run around 10-13 deg cooler than core 0 (see screenshot)
.
Do you think this should be sent back, or should I be ok with it hitting 99deg with stock clocks after factory delidding? I'd like to have a bit of headroom to overclock, but I would think I would be able to stay under 99deg with stock clocks under prime95 especially after delidding. Most reviews had the thermals in the high 80s/low 90's WITHOUT delidding, so this throttling seems disappointing...not sure if I should settle here.
Thanks for your advice and suggestions. Sorry, I've tried to link to the images but they don't seem to be showing, and I couldn't figure out how to upload them directly to an album on this site).

Does this system have a precision trackpad where the settings are incorporated into Windows 10, or is it similar to the one on the MSI GT73 that uses the old-school Synaptics control panel?
-
ThatOldGuy Notebook Virtuoso
About 82C is what you should expect from Prime95 even delided (it is a power virus and shouldn't be run; also Furmark)
I would say you most likely got a warped heatsink. It seems as if it was warped 1 way leaving contact on core 3, then warped the other way to (over)compensate and now only core 2 has good contact
Most likely Eurocom wasn't running Prime95 (as it should never be run least of all on a laptop) more likely Cinebench and not throttling.UsmanKhan likes this. -

Intel i7-8700K specs leaked:
A progressive series of 'leaks' over the last few days have given us an idea of what to expect from the Coffee Lake i7-8700K. It will be a 6-core CPU operating on the same LGA 1151 socket as Skylake and Kaby Lake, have 12MB of cache, and a potential turbo clock up to 4.7 GHz.
https://www.notebookcheck.net/Specs-leaked-for-upcoming-i7-8700K.237164.0.html
If this is true, then Bios update would be all that is needed? or is the new CPUs yet unknown TDP likely to be too high for motherboard to handle?Last edited: Jul 26, 2017 -
Thanks for your reply. I used prime95 for a few minutes to compare to temp benchmarks on a couple reviews, but I'll look for other cpu tests...good to know it's too taxing in laptops... what do you suggest for cpu tests?
Whatever the Eurocom service center ran as a stress test didn't raise a flag so I wanted to get a sense if this should be sent back before wasting their time. I know it will run hot even delidded, but the big discrepancy between core Temps and hitting the thermal cap at stock settings concerns me. Thanks for the advice - just want to make sure this is setup properly.Last edited: Jul 27, 2017hmscott likes this. -

I would say more the second than the first. Windows 10 does have a settings panel for this trackpad, but the more detailed settings are controlled from the Synaptics driver config.
I moved to this machine from a Macbook Pro, which has an excellent touchpad, if you are into such things. Personally, I find touchpads very hard to use, and I always connect a Bluetooth mouse to my system (this one, or my former Macbook). But even in that context, I would say that the touchpad on this machine is mediocre.
Don't get me wrong -- this is a tremendous system in many, many ways, and I'm extremely happy with it. But every machine has its pluses and minuses, and I would list the touchpad as a minus on this one.
My opinion, probably worth exactly what you paid for it.

So there is a Synaptics control panel icon in the system tray that has a tickbox to disable it when an external mouse is connected? That's what I'm looking for really. As much as I liked my Clevo P670RS, the trackpad was a major problem because, while it used Synaptics drivers, everything was integrated into Windows 10 settings, which resulted in BSODs, unresponsive behavior, and other glitches. I was ultimately able to solve nearly all the problems I had by installing a Windows 8 driver from Packard Bell UK support of all places.Donald@Paladin44 likes this. -

There's an icon on one of the number buttons (?) on the top left of the keyboard that when pressed with the fn button will disable the track pad. It's very convenient.
A second take on the track pad... When I adjust the pad to a high degree of sensitivity it works much better than previous laptops I've owned. I've never had a Mac and I imagine this isn't that level of control. When it comes to user interface, Apple doesn't aim to be second. It's easy to have an opinion against Apple, but it can't be denied that they focus efforts on certain aspects with laser intensity. The pad is not that. It is great however.

Ewwwwww!!!! Packard Bell!!!
Thanks for elaborating on your concerns. I can address most of those more specifically.
- With respect to BSODs or unresponsive behavior, I can put your mind at ease. Zero instances of any system instability here related to the touchpad, period. I may be jinxing myself here, but I've had this machine for several months, and the only crashes I have had were self-inflicted when I was still tweaking my overclocking and undervolt settings.
- The Synaptics control settings do have an option to disable the trackpad when an external mouse is connected. That "mostly" works as advertised, but I find that it has a couple of quirks that seem to be specific to Bluetooth mice (not USB mice). To wit,
- The system often has the trackpad enabled during the login screen regardless of external mouse connected or not. Then the Synaptics software disables it after I login or unlock. It may simply be that this setting is stored per-user. In any case, it is actually sort of a good thing that they do that, because otherwise you couldn't login without the external mouse.
- Synaptics detects when my Bluetooth mouse is present and correctly disables the touchpad, but they don't always go the other way. That is, if I turn off the Bluetooth mouse, the touchpad does not automatically switch on. I think the issue is that the o.s. doesn't notify their driver of the disconnection event.
- All that being said, the one thing that prevents any of the above from being a problem is this: Pressing FN-F3 at any time, whether at the login screen or when fully logged in, toggles the touchpad on and off with 100% reliability. This was not working quite right with the version of Synaptics driver that shipped with my machine in (?) April, but on advice from this forum I installed the latest Synaptics driver from their web site, and the function key is now 100% reliable for me.

1. My laptop bus clock never reaches 100Mhz, it's always at 99.7 or 99.8Mhz. I know its really close to 100, but shouldn't it be at 100Mhz all time?
2. PCH temperature is usually 63C, but when I connect a TB3 dock station it reaches 72C in less than one minute. Does anyone know if it's normal?

Thanks for helping. I edited my original post and posted with the URL alone...but when I use the Notebookreview tool, and enter the URL, it just brings up just the bracketed URL...what am I doing wrong?
How were you able to recover the URL when only the bracketed URL was showing in my original post?hmscott likes this. -
You can right click on the broken image and either copy address for the image, or open in another tab, this time only open in another tab worked - so that's how I found it and then right clicked on the imgur image and downloaded to my PC.
Then I uploaded the image from Post => Edit => "More Options..." and placed it in the post with Full Image option on the uploaded image entry in the post editor.
I've found it's better to have a single unit - post + uploaded image = works forever, otherwise if the image hosting service goes way - they almost all eventually do years later, then you have a post with no informative image.
Uploading the image on the same service/server as the posting keeps them together and both should be maintained intact together until the service goes away...
I keep a copy of the image, sometimes copies of the text too, for future reference on my PC, I often upload very old images based on repeat questions months or years later.Last edited: Jul 28, 2017syscrusher, Papusan and Donald@Paladin44 like this. -

Is it worth spending the money to upgrade the stock 1080p/60 IPS screen to either the 1080p/120 or 4K one purely for future resale purposes?

Depends on who is buying tbh.
People like me will look for the 4k Screen. Hardcore gaming folks will want the 1080 120Hz IPS or QHD 120Hz TN.syscrusher and Donald@Paladin44 like this. -

Not really...if it is upgradeable, let the buyer do the upgrade if that is what they want. You won't get your money back from the upgrade on resale.syscrusher, Mr. Fox, Papusan and 5 others like this. -
You have to buy a new cable because 1080p screen has 30 pin cable, instead the 4k one has 40 pin eDP; sometimes monitors have different pin pitch so the number of the pins is the same, but not the size.

I don't know about cost, but HID took my vote on the basis of the quality of their service. They are both great companies. I've hardly dealt with any companies that are willing to get your back like HID. Their commitment to their customers would be worth any extra cost as they do price competitively based on what they offer.

HIDevolution offer more modifications that Eurocom doesn't.
The Unlocked BIOS is free where Eurocom charges $100. You also get the modded bottom panel Free; and if you want the BIOS battery extension mod, they will do it for $30 (Eurocom doesn't offer this).
HIDevolution's Prema partnership also has a upgraded vBIOS that lets the GTX 1080 run at 200W as opposed to MSI's 150W in the Eurocom
