The longer he keeps it the less it would be worth. Better to treat it as a personal mistake and pay the restocking fee today. That will be less painful than the drop in value in 30, 60 or 90 days from now. We (you and I) know how this works from personal experience.

where do you live? i think US citizen can get 10% discount for students. to me exact same config cost around 1530$ ( can check my signature for specs) includes ship + tax. so im not sure where are u getting more thn 400$ figure from unless u cant avail student % + talk with Eurocom guys and they may give you another 5% discount(may not but nothing in trying).
Edit: get laptop with 8gb ram, and can get hard disk and extra ram from amazon. -
If you are going to buy a laptop with Newegg, please do yourself a favor and spend the $20-30 for a Newegg premier membership. It will waive your restocking fees if you decide to return the machine after opening it. Also, if you are planning on paying extra for 2-day or next day shipping, the shipping discounts for premier members pay for themselves. The $70 cost of next day shipping in my case was lowered to $34 once you sign up for premier, and the rush order fee is waived.
I assume it's too late for you since you didn't order with premier, but it might be worth investigating. The restocking fees are brutal on Newegg, but you can avoid them by shopping smart. -

Hi Guys
Did you have any problem with turn on the G-synch suport?
I do not see this support in my Nvidia control panel -
i have no issues with g-sync, option is visible. im on 376.3(latest stable)

Hmm, OK. Does the silence mean nobody cares and most of you guys are not interested in competing in an overclocking competition with one of these little monsterbooks?

Yeah, you are just throwing $ away to drop a perfectly good laptop for a few more percentage in CPU performance.
If you are going to go the way of wasted cash, then go whole hog and spec a 1080 version, make the effort worth while.
And, wait until after the Kaby Lake / 1080 version gets released with the new Series 200 motherboard chipset - apparently it's in testing and waiting for Intel release announcement to start shipping. Sometime early 2017.
Also, tell newegg NO!! - I am not paying for a restocking fee. Offer to get Newegg Premier for a year instead - still costs $, but less than $300, and if you had it when you ordered there would be no re-stocking fee.
If you really want a great trade up, swap the 15" GT62 for a GT73VR 1080, and then you can tell Newegg that the GT62 GPU performance isn't up to what you want, and *need* the 1080.
newegg should let you spin up the full GT62 value into the GT73VR 1080

Are you saying the that Series 200 motherboard will have some advantage over the current Tornado F5 motherboard configured with a 1080 and the 7700K? -
I'm planning on selling my 6600k for Kaby Lake, so I'm being extra cautious and don't want to push any extreme overclocks on it
I'm interested as a spectator, however.

I just don't understand that. I've never seen anyone kill an Intel CPU in a laptop by overclocking the daylights out of it. There is maybe a 1 in 100,000 chance (or less) of that happening with an Intel K series CPU. But, I do totally respect your decision to not participate.
Based on what little interest (so far) there seems to be in doing this, maybe the running with the idea is just a waste of time. I did not realize how few Tornado F5 owners were interested in overclocking such a well-appointed little powerhouse. It used to be like that with Alienware guys, so I guess it is no wonder all they sell is BGA feces now.
If I end up owning one, I may not have much company, LOL. The way I look at my computers, if I cannot overclock the crap out of it then I don't even want it.Johnksss likes this. -

It would be fun to participate but I would want to delid my 6700K first. I need to find a place in the US selling a delid tool as I will need to do this on two 6700K's.

Absolutely! You'd be crazy not to. I know I would.
Well, what's stopping you, bro? Hurry up and get one. There's plenty of room for more Tornado F5 gladiators.
I have a Rockit 88 delid tool. Works great. The place is out of Texas. http://rockitcool.myshopify.com/
But, if you are in Evans, CO just take it outside and force the fans on max. Take the bottom cover off if you want. Laptops love winter and so do I, LOL. It will be plenty cool in freezing weather without being delidded.Last edited: Dec 18, 2016win32asmguy, birdyhands and Papusan like this. -
I'm envious of the folks that enjoy cold weather. I love winter for many reasons, and benching is one of them. I used to bench outside in freezing weather all the time and it's awesome for overclocking. It's never cold enough where I live now, so I have to use AC cooling even in winter. If the weather outside is dry enough, things start getting really exciting around 10°F... overclocked CPU's with lots of air getting rammed through the heat sink radiators really eat that up, and so do the GPUs.Rage Set and birdyhands like this.

@Mr. Fox I am interested in overclocking, but I'm having trouble. I up core voltage offset +.150 and multipliers 44x. Mark score stays the same.
birdyhands and Mr. Fox like this. -
Well, 95W is not enough for one thing. You're probably throttling from too much voltage, not enough power, or both. That +0.145V (145mV) offset would be OK for something like 49x4 or maybe even 50x4. That would put your load voltage like somewhere around 1.475V to 1.500V.
Set the voltage offset back to zero. If you have a 6700K you should be able to run at least 45x4, maybe even as high at 47x4 with stock voltage if you have a better than average 6700K.
Change Turbo Boost Short Power Max to "Enabled" Set Turbo Boost Short Power Max and Turbo Boost Power Max both to 200.00W, set ICC Max to 200.000A and set all 4 multipliers to 45.
See how that works. Run Cinebench CPU test with your current settings and then change them like I suggested and run again to see how they compare. Be sure to keep it cool, max out the fans, etc. If you're using it in a place that you can't keep it cool enough, use wPrime 32M instead of Cinebench for testing. You'll want to watch to make sure the core clock speeds are holding all of the time under load.
If that works fine, bump the multipliers to 46x4 and see if that holds as well without changing anything else. Probably will.Last edited: Dec 18, 2016birdyhands and Papusan like this. -

Yes, as Brother @Papusan said, please post the results here.
And, to put into context how much excessive voltage you were using, this I just did with my 6700K in my Clevo using only +88mV (0.088V) for 48x4. Nothing extraordinary for 6700K, and no special cooling. Just using max fans in my warm house (about 72°F in here right now).

Well, I am sorely tempted -- the laptop enthusiast bug is contagious! I'm not quite ready trade up my BGA book (or own two laptops), but that could change sooner than later...Mr. Fox likes this. -
Let me clarify:
Yes, I understand all that. The average buyers does not.
If I do not push any high overclocks, I am able to truthfully claim that I only "lightly overclocked" the CPU and "never pushed past 4.4 GHz." People love the idea that the CPU they are purchasing has been pampered. The average buyer would be less inclined to pay as much if I told them I ran a high overclock/voltage under the assumption that the CPU has already been irreversibly "abused" or "damaged". This is why whenever you see a post in the Hardwareswap subReddit for an unlocked CPU, it is not uncommon to see the words "never overclocked," because this fact is actually a strong selling point.birdyhands likes this. -
I am somewhat disagree with you. But that's just me
See for yourself...
"You write that your chips can run 4.6 GHz with stock voltage". This does not mean your chips have got a load of overvoltage and almost have killed your chips. It just means that your chips is
a good overclocker. This is also appreciated by those who are looking for a good processor
But up to you what you think is best for you
birdyhands and Mr. Fox like this. -
Depends on the buyer. To me that signals a red flag that I really have no idea what I am getting if I buy it. It could mean it was a poorly binned sample, or the original owner doesn't have a clue whether he got a lemon or a gem. I'd rather buy in confidence of a CPU's abilities by seeing evidence of whether or not it's a good sample. If you are selling to an average Joe (noob) that thinks overclocking is wrong or inherently bad, then your point is valid. But, those guys are generally bargain shoppers and don't want to pay top dollar for quality. They may be shopping for used for either reason, and you'll fetch a higher price from the savvy shopper.birdyhands and Papusan like this.

Has anyone else noticed that the Tornado F5 is surprisingly comfortable to use on your lap, just browsing the internet or doing light tasks? It seems like the fans actually draw air in from vents in the front that look like speaker grills. Having the laptop on your lap doesn't really interfere with the cooling systems ability to exhaust heat.
@Mr. Fox thanks for the link to the delid tool. I will definitely pick one of those up. Is there much difference between CLU and Grizzly Conductonaut? I have heard of people using the latter with Alienware repasting, so I figured it would be the way to go.birdyhands, Mr. Fox, FredSRichardson and 1 other person like this. -

My P650RS-G comes from @hidevolution. I hope they offer the 16L13 some time soon =) (They do have a similar Clevo). -
By all means, use CLU on the CPU if the heat sink fit is proper. You will find nothing better or more durable. It's awesome and I love it. I have used them all. The other liquid metal options work fine, but they are simply too risky to use unless you leave it sitting on a desk all of the time.Last edited: Dec 19, 2016birdyhands, Papusan and FredSRichardson like this.

Welp, as a lurker for a while, I've enjoyed reading this whole thread. Great information as usual from this forum and it's members.
Practically convinced me to go this route after getting shafted by Alienware Sales/Support. Basically ordered a AW 17 R4 on Black Friday with 1070/6700HQ/120hz(QHD) and received a unit with a 1060 instead. Requested replacement, and they sent me another with a 1060 after waiting another week. Called up support, and after 1.5 hours of trying to figure the situation out, they connect me to a "Sales Resolution Specialist." He goes on to offer me a check for $100.00 to keep the damn laptop (1070 is practically a $300.00 upgrade). Other option was to return for a full refund because "the as configured order" was apparently a glitch in dell's deals that day... Pretty frustrated and angry at this point. Especially because I can order the same exact configuration from Best Buy.
Still waiting on a refund, but I need something to replace my aging Lenovo Y510P. Games without SLI profiles run like molasses heated by a jet engine. I was originally torn between a 775DM3 and the AW 17 R4, but this MSI 16L13 may be exactly what I want. I originally stayed away from it because I thought it didn't come with a Thunderbolt 3 port.
Before purchasing, I want to ensure myself on a couple of things.
Will there be not too many differences between the Z170 and Z270 chip-sets?
Will the 120 Hz screen become an expensive option to swap in later? Should I wait to order it with the 120 Hz screen?
I leave for business on 3 February, and would like to take the laptop with me while away for over a month to play games in my leisure time.
Will this wait for the screen cause me to go past that deadline?
Is there any chance that a 17" version of this will be coming out?
Maybe someone has a good # to call to better figure all of this out?
Thanks for answering any of my questions in advance!Mr. Fox, UsmanKhan and birdyhands like this. -

We will make an official announcement with a new thread that includes the start/end dates and rules that must be followed. @Diversion and @Johnksss@iBUYPOWER and I am working with @Eurocom Support to work out the final details. If someone has a machine on order now I think there will be time for them to get it and start tuning. Probably will start the first week of January and run until the end of the month.Last edited: Dec 19, 2016birdyhands and Papusan like this. -
Can anyone recommend a sturdy and sizable messenger bag or carrying case that would work for light transportation of this laptop (at work, up and down stairs daily)? Ideally, I want one shock-absorbing or with padding, that can also carry the adapter. But the tricky part I've encountered is that this laptop is fairly big with respect to the messenger bags I can find, which are geared more for slim ultrabook-style machines (plus, the adapter brick is about 2 times bigger than most I've seen).
I did find and read the previous discussion here about backpacks, which was more about long-distance travel, but I may consider going with a backpack if that is the best I can find, though I'd much prefer to find and use a messenger bag. -
Little something just to demonstrate PM 961 throttling ... auto fans, no mods, drive being used meanwhile.
Started from 45 C ... and once it hit 65 C you can see what happened.
Will post new benchmark soon after i mod it.
Modded and moved to the other slot. Pics Below. Again auto fan... very low speed.
First run modded went from 35 C to 57 C
Second run modded went from 52 to 62 C
Looking at the stats of the drive (right) and my normal usage ... most of this R/W is because of Benchmarks.
So I am happy with the mod and won't run any more benches
Thanks for the guy that pointed at the first place that these drives throttle, because the first time i benched the drive with Atto i thought something is not right and probably would have not figured the issue is throttling.
P.S. It does not throttle with max fans
