Does anyone own this laptop with a 6700 (non-K)? If so, what are your temps/battery life like?
For everyone else, are you impressed with the panel quality? Any light bleed?

Battery life will be the same roughly.. and the panels are all good.. I've seen 3 in person and all were good samples. They are all LG. No light bleed.. some hot spotting but hardly noticeable.
-
This is a good sign. Plus if we can get that bios, svet can unlock it. Yeah!!! hehe
-
Is the top panel of the lid aluminum (like the GT62VR) or is it plastic?
Sent from my HTC6545LVW using Tapatalk -
Unlocking at the moment doesn't really bring any significant benefits.. Everything can be done with XTU and Throttlestop under Windows outside of that. However, that being said, Svet is attempting to work on extra features.
-
It has a metal lid (just like GT62).

New notebook cooler came in today.. It's a Havit from Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/HAVIT-HV-F20...&ie=UTF8&qid=1477279455&sr=1-2&keywords=Havit
VERY VERY quiet and leaps and bounds better than the $60 Cooler Master SF-17. Loving it, it helps quite a bit more than expected since it's fan position (two in line blowing right into the center vent of the machine).

Very nice! Hopefully that helped with temps too.

Why choose this model over the Eurocom X4E2 (Clevo
P750DM2-G)? Price seems to be around the same. Thanks. -

Does it add more noise to NB's own?
-
Honestly, they're very similar. They use the same fans, have nearly identical specs. The X4E2 is slightly heavier and slightly more expensive, but the default config comes with more RAM. If it was my decision, since they're so similar, I would simply pick the one with better thermals. Unfortunately, since not many people have it right now, we can't draw direct comparisons yet between the Tornado and X4E2.
One thing I did notice, is that the X4E2 appears to have very low benchmark scores. See here: http://www.eurocom.com/ec/benchmarks(387)ec
I'm not sure if it's due to drivers, or if the card is throttling, but my Tornado F5 is getting way higher GPU scores than the X4E2 at stock.hmscott likes this. -
Interesting. Where can I see the Tornado scores? On the Eurocom site they only have the 3DMark Vantage Score for the Tornado and they do not have that score for the X4E2 to compare them.
-
Here's my Firestrike score. Everything completely at stock: http://www.3dmark.com/fs/10485429
The CPU is different, but you can still compare the GPU scores. -
Thanks, though Eurocom only has Firestrike score for the X4E2 GTX 1080 version which of course is going to be higher than yours.
-
Any chance someone with the 6700k could so some Firestrike and OCCT runs at some different speeds and let me know what the CPU and GPU temps are like? Just so I can make some comparisons. Thanks.
-
Why would you say they use the same fans? They do not. They may look similar, but they are not. That Clevo model is known to be louder under load.
-
I will for you later tonight.

X4E2 w/ 1070:
Tornado is around ~1500 higher in GPU score for some reason.
You're right. I assumed they were the same fans, but they're actually different, my mistake.hmscott likes this. -

The fans have larger propellers so they must be running slowly to drive airflow to keep noise down, and in turn that also benefits your NB to run cooler and help to reduce wear and tear on the NB fan.
-
It could be the XE4's G-sync was turned on which lowers score by about that much.hmscott likes this.
-
Correct, they basically are just low rpm 120mm desktop case fans
Not bad for $22 to help keep fresher air circulating to the laptop.

There's something weird going on here, I can configure a P650RP6 with an i7-6700HQ and a GTX1060, both soldered, for about 1370 dollars, while I can get a Tornado F5 through Eurocom with an i7-6700 (Non K), a 1070, both socketed, for about 1500 dollars, plus I can get a 10% discount due to being a student = It costs the same? It's a bloody non-brainer.
It's too perfect, there has to be a catchhmscott likes this. -
I couldn't believe it at first. Not only does the Tornado allow socketed CPUs, but it even has a better cooler system for the same, if not cheaper, price. I don't know if BGA is just a rip-off, or if Eurocom is underpricing, but this laptop needs to get more popular.
I'm not going to go into the GT62VR thread and start preaching, but I wonder how many GT62VR owners would have picked the Tornado if they only knew about it. -
What kind of makes me hesitate is the PSU, will 230W be enough for the non K i7 and a 1070? TBH I won't be doing crazy things with the laptop, no heavy rendering/benchmarking/gaming etc, but I do want a portable capable-of-it-all laptop, that size and weigh is great, and I'm worried about the power delivery.
Having a great CPU, GPU, and availability for tons of RAM is a must for me, I'm buying a unique system for the following 5 years, even if I won't use the full potential.
Will look into it later myself, some feedback will be appreciated tho

Does repasting require removal of the entire motherboard or any other random components? Or is it pretty straight forward on this machine?

Two here members have the 6700K Tornado and the 230 W PSU, and they seem to be running just fine.
I have the 6600K version, but I still opted for the 330W PSU (I tend to err on the side of caution). My kill-a-watt power draw numbers using Prime95 + Furmark was 215W. Of course, this is an unrealistic "worst-case scenario" load, and I will probably never hit 215W. Unfortunately, I don't have a 6700 laying around for me to test power draw for you. I would imagine it consumes power similar to the 6600K, but I don't know for certain. -
Pretty straight forward - remove back panel, remove CPU/GPU cooling assembly (they're connected), repaste.Diversion likes this.
-
Don't worry, 215W on a number-crunching scenario is really unrealistic and I should be "comfortable" saving 67 bucks,
I'm on a quite tight budget. Also I bet power consumption on both chips, at stock speeds, are pretty much the same.. Also undervolting will help quite a bit.
You've been very helpful, thanks! -
Well just one more component to add to my purchase list... luckily it's the least expensive item on the list.
-
Perfect.
-
Will they ever include a GTX 1080 option? That'd be an insta-buy for me

I'm not sure it's possible in this notebook because of power and/or heat restrictions.
-
That's a fair observation. Guess I'm looking at a desktop if I want a quiet and cooler 1080.

Nice!!! There are many manufacturers out there that they say their gaming laptop models is the best. But speaking of overall upgeadeability and ease of cleaning the internal parts, there are only two competitors in the market to choose from, MSI and Clevo and this leaves other gaming laptops to the dust. Enough said.hmscott and Kevin@GenTechPC like this.
-
Just to be clear, the GTX 1080 is available in other laptop models, just not this one.
If a desktop is an acceptable alternative for you, I would go for that. These gaming laptops are incredible because they allow for high-end computing on-the-road. We are people that move around a lot so a laptop is a must... however, if portability is not a high priority for you, a desktop will net better value.hmscott likes this. -
Fire is hot. Water is wet.
I'm aware that there are others but they come in at closer to 4kg or more (stretching your "portability") and apparently fan noise isn't too great at that. I recall a forum member looking for people to mass order a fan to replace the one they have. Portability is important for me, 4.5kg isn't what I'd call portability. With "high end computing", you mean "high end gaming" since we're in this thread? If you're looking for the former, you should be looking at the Quadros or FirePros to begin with.. Then there's the price point vs practicality.
All those add up to a point where I can justify buying a desktop + a lightweight companion laptop with a 1060 for the office instead.

How long did it take you guys to get the laptop? FYI for others, but it looks like they ran out 1070's and are waiting on them to come in. I ordered mine on Oct. 8, and still waiting.

It was mentioned in the GTVR62 thread but if you ordered from Eurocom it took awhile, and not the greatest of transparency on the hold up or updates.

Ordered Sept. 6, received Oct. 6. Slow for me too, but faster for others.hmscott likes this.

Thanks! I was excited at first because they originally mentioned a 1 week turnaround. Guess a bit more waiting. They said a week ago the cards would get in so hopefully it gets here before I leave town for a week.hmscott likes this.

Guess that means I'll have to contact Gary soon and put in an order earlier than expected to make sure it arrives in time for the holidays.

Sounds like a good idea
Seems like a 1 month turnaround period on average. I didn't order my laptop with a HD or OS either.

Week and a half for mine.. I'm sure they are caught up on orders now.. probably about the same amount of time if you're in the USA.

Hey guys! I'm a former clevo p650rs owner that decided to "turn to the light," as people have said here, and opt for an LGA. It's my 2nd time to RMA this same model, this latest time was due to the power related issues to the 6820hk (1st was monitor). I would've tried 3x but after coming across the thread of other owners with the same chip having issues, I decided to skip it. Then I came across the 16L13... I've always owned a BGA laptop in the past, never a desktop. Before I read through these threads, I've never really known the difference lol. I'm anxious to try out my first real "desktop" replacement!
Anyway, I went ahead and purchased my 6700k Tornado last night and got an email this morning regarding the student discount to be applied before invoicing. I checked my credit card and I see it's been charged but I have yet to receive an official confirmation invoice or status. I know it's most likely because it's way too soon lol, but was wondering if anyone had an idea of how long the process usually takes?
