The plug is pretty secure.. It's a tight fit, I can't see it coming out easily. However, do you plan on using this in your lap and playing games? I don't know if I could recommend that as the vents to suck in cool air on the bottom. Otherwise, I use my machine in my lap when it's off battery for web surfing and or some work..

Would the RAM I linked earlier work in this laptop?
Are the 2 (easy to access) RAM slots easy to install?
How about the M.2 SSD slots? Both easy to access and install? -
Thanks for the quick reply, Diversion.
Well, my coffee table extends up and towards me for gaming, but the power is still off to my left either way.
It might be fine... I had an Alienware years ago with the same placement, but it had the barrel-style plug that could rotate pretty freely. I'll have to think about it a bit. -
Yes it will work. Did you look at the first post? Detailed pictures with the bottom panel removed. Both m2 slots are easily accessible including the 2.5" slot and two ram slots. The only thing that's a pain is getting to the other two ram slots.. You have to lift the system board out.
-
I basically have the same setup (I use my laptop mostly on my coffee table.. And I just plug in to the back and send the cable off to the right side of the coffee table to the power plug on the wall next to the couch. Zero issues.. I actually like it in the back vs the sides of other laptops.

Perfect - thanks! Now back to spec'ing out this bad boy...Diversion likes this.

Also, I ordered the 330watt separately and it came with a longer cable which added more slack to the setup.. But then again, also didn't have a problem with the 230watt either.. but it is about a foot or 1.5 feet shorter maybe.

Which wireless card would you recommend for this laptop?
-
Intel 8260

Hallo everyone, is there a 17 inch Version or a similar 17 inch lga Laptop available? Could not find something. Thx risks

Thank you for the fast answer.
Can someone post temperatures from a 6700 without OC ing?
Maybe it was already in this thread, but I lost the overview with so much OC ing temps.
Optimus is not available, right?
Thank you-Diversion likes this. -

Ask about stock temp in the main model threads. And welcome to this forum

sorry, but what is the main model thread? I thought this is the MSI 16L13 Thread.

Put in a request to add in Eurocom Tornado F5 to the thread title. So hopefully by changing the thread title we can get Eurocom involved with their insight and upgrade plans/paths for the F5 in this thread as @Eurocom Support is active in another Tornado F5 thread but not this one.

Tornado F5 is Eurocom's name for the MSI 16L13. I am getting the title changed
birdyhands and AngryScott like this. -
That makes more sense than adding Fangbook
Since most everyone is getting their MSI 16L13 from Eurocom, having the name in the title would be good.
If you want to increase visibility further, you can add Tags for search, adding Fangbook and whatever other model / make names resell the 16L13 would be awesome

How do I add tags to the thread? That's a great idea.birdyhands and hmscott like this.

@Diversion
Look to the top Left, there should be an "Add Tags" link:

You guys should add "best value gaming laptop"

Depends on how you're stressing the CPU.. at stock 4ghz with Prime95 can easily get into the 90s without an undervolt.

Clevo is there because I think Clevo people need to at least look at this notebook as an option
Edit: and yay thread title has been updated!Paull, Papusan, AngryScott and 1 other person like this. -
Oh yeah. After a minor hiccup the order went through and was successfully charged.
I ordered the F5 with a single 8GB memory chip. Is this located directly under the back cover, or is it installed under the keyboard (i.e. I'll need to remove the mobo to get to it)?Diversion likes this. -
Well did some back and forth emailing with Garry over Friday & Saturday and got some questions out of the way. Looks like I'll be ordering my unit sometime next week.

I will take a temperature reading when I get my on Wednesday or Thursday, I ordered it with the 6700.mr_risks, keftih, Diversion and 1 other person like this.

We added few days ago G-sync 4K UltraHD option. We are also testing DDR4-3000 and DDR4-3200 memory this week.
We are working on unlocked BIOS but this would take a little while as we have to make sure that Tornado F5 is stable. Mr Fox is going to do stress testing next week. -
Excellent news on the 3000/3200 testing, was wondering myself.hmscott likes this.

Hey guys. I'm about to order my F5 and trying to configure it for a better acoustics. Does it has a custom fan curve you can configure? In terms of CPU I'm planning to go for 6700T(again mostly for acoustics) and since the penalty for gaming is minimal it was an easy choice. As for GPU I'm not sure if it's worth to downgrade from 1070 to 1060. What is the TDP saving on that 30W or so?
-
Personally I'd prefer more teardown pictures showing the internals. I have a feeling most people think nature photos are kind of cheesy and out of place.Last edited: Oct 31, 2016

I think the leaf picture is great. It's uplifting somehow. Makes the otherwise square design a little more vibrant. IMHO the picture works well.birdyhands likes this.
-
Custom fan curve: yes.
GPU: Stick with the 1070. The 1070 runs cool, and you could always downclock if you want it to run even cooler. The 1060 isn't worth it IMO.hmscott, birdyhands and Any_Key like this. -
I ordered my F5 sans HD. I was looking at the drivers page on Eurocom and noticed that they are all Windows 10 drivers. I was planning on installing Windows 7. Would installing the Win10 drivers have an adverse affect? Also, does anyone recommend a particular order to install the drivers? Thank you.
-
I would get the normal 6700, forget the 6700TPaull, birdyhands and hmscott like this.
-
I don't think install order is terribly important as long as the Chipset is first, and Windows Update is last.
@Eurocom Support mentioned that the Tornado F5 would be supporting Windows 7, not sure where the drivers are though. -

Most of the drivers should be the same as any Skylake systems as majority of components used by MSI are pretty much the same manufactures. -

thought to share this here for those interested.
This is the inside. Lots of room, very easy access, nothing like walls stopping you anywhere from using larger components of modding in the future. Also there are metal hinges and grommets for the screws in the corners on some cast steel which is very strong. This is one of the best laptop's I've ever owned.
the fact is is made to work with the 7700K and the next gen MXM cards from MSI coming out this year and the next lineup, is just a fantastic reason to buy it. We do not usually get a laptop that is ahead of it's game, but instead get them when they're behind the technology - this is a first for MSI, IMO. Shame they didn't market it themselves.
I will be testing and taking some marketing pictures of this laptop - I had the intention of initially selling it, but the build quality is so high, I'm hesitant to let it to. Last laptop hat was this good for me was the M17X-R4 which for it's time was amazing and I became huge Alienware fanboy because of it.
So I highly recommend this laptop, if you are willing to become MSI fanboys ! HAHA
if anyone wants pictures or wants to ask me anything feel free to. I'm curious what anyone would want to know, and wouldn't mind taking the time to figure it out about this laptop.
If you would like pictures of how nice the components are like heatsinks and such i can do that too, if you want to know dimensions of the boxing - I was surprised by how well this was packed, how light it was and how small it was too.
Thought for sure it had to be one of those ultrathins inside.
The battery is only a 5Amp 75Wh battery and is really small. (smallest I've seen in a laptop like this) Only 1 Mechanical drive slot. But - 2 x M.2 SSD slots and a M.2 half slot for the wifi. The fans are larger then I would have expected. The heatsinks are beautiful and I suspect this laptop will be kicking arse for years.Aroc, AngryScott, Papusan and 2 others like this. -

like what ? The motherboard's 170 chipset.... the MEI...the AHCI/RAID controller ? There's really not much else here.. sound ?
My thinking is, forget windows 7. NVidia is not going to keep supporting graphics for win7 for much longer, and many of the current drivers they release are buggy for windows 7. -
Kevin@GenTechPC Company Representative
Intel chipset driver is universal and backward compatible. If the chipset is updated on a newer platform and a new chipset driver is available then it will install.
Realtek audio driver has always been universal for Win7, Win8.x, and Win10, considering the audio controller hasn't been changed much ALC887/ALC1150 etc.
Nvidia being a good company may not drop Win7 anytime soon, but eventually we will see that to happen.hmscott likes this. -
I'm getting the system tomorrow evening! It'll take me a while to set everything up since I'll have to install Windows 7 Pro on there plus the hassle with multiple driver installations on a bad internet connection. GOSH I HATE AT&T!(BURN!!!!!!!!!!!!) Anyway I'll post my temps for XTU if I even end up using it and for other apps. Hopefully I won't run into too many problems with the drivers working properly for this system.
-
Thanks for your feedback. The continued positive feedback on this Eurocom F5 just proves it isn't a bunch of hype. It's seriously the best laptop I've ever owned. It's future is definitely bright.Aroc, AngryScott, hmscott and 1 other person like this.

I would honestly go with a desktop if I lived alone, but I don't plus my family already has 2 desktops.

I can understand that BGA trash are the only solution in a small 12-13-14 inch laptop. Such small designed laptop is intended for other purposes than as desktop replacement. So yeah, either a home build desktop or a laptop with socket hardware!!
It is sad that there are only 4 laptop models out there with socket hardware. 3 Clevo and a single MSI Barbone. It's time that something must be done.hmscott likes this. -
Let me know how it goes with the Windows 7 install and what drivers you used. Contemplating whether or not I'll have to switch to Windows 10. Ugh was trying to save a little bit haha.hmscott likes this.

I will take a look at the drivers CD that it came with (oddly it doesn't have a CD player..LOL)
I wish to share my first complaint about the system:
I've been attempting to lap this smooth for almost 30 minutes now. The heavy grains in the copper will affect performance/cooling if you do not use a thin enough thermal grease/paste that can go inbetween the micoscopic gaps. Essentially the main reason we even use a grease is to fill these sorts of gaps. The issue I'm complaining about is, they silkscreened a thermal product onto the heatsink, like many companies do, but the heavgy grain set wasn;t really filled in when I investegated, and thus, it would have been horrible performing. Grains like this, using something thick like ICD7 can affect close to 3-4C in performance. Using a thick silk-screened thermal pasted application usually dries out too much and when it heats up still fails to cover the microscopic gaps of air (i.e insulation) between the heat dissipation element (heatsink/grease) and the thing being cooled (cpu/gpu etc..)
this is not a deal breaker, but it's one of the worse grained sinks I've ever seen. Sort of the quality you;d get on something from china on ebay. This specifically was for the GPU. Which will produce most likely - more heat then the CPU. It's heatsink is relatively smaller and not as great quality as the CPU is, which enjoy's like quadruple pipe cooling and a much larger better quality copper plating.
You never see DELL or ASUS with heavy grained copper like this on thier sinks. They always lap them to a shine before hand and clean with a acid/coat with a slight resin etc...
SO - just saying, there is some work to making this part of it perfect. It's by FAR not a deal breaker - and if I based an entire laptop off of 100 point system, the heatsinks would/could count for maybe 10 points total - I wouldn't deduct even a single point for this - unless, the system was installed with the silkscreen and heavy grains-set copper onto the cards and given to customers paying top dollar for the best of the best. -

So seems there only drivers for windows 10 on the disk. Lets look at the site for support then :
https://gyazo.com/0732e6feeeeaa262fc48562157bcf116
okay, maybe it's just very new. Lets see if I find anything in thier FTP...
I looked and there is nothing related. I would show pictures but that wouldn't be polite to share someone else's information.
SO - if anyone else knows where the drivers for windows 7 would be, or is it specifically auto-installed via windows update ?
My main concern is, for those who use NVIDIA graphics cards. Will we have to mod the drivers to install on windows 7 ?
