Idle hovers at around 50. At Load it reaches 90C very easily (during gaming). I tried underclocking but still it overclocks itself to higher speeds. Then thing is, the laptop becomes very hot to touch and makes gaming very unpleasant. Disabling turbo boost would be more than enough but there is no setting for that from what I see. The idle is in the low 50s. Normal load I never measured. I even undervolted -25mV and underclock to 2.7ghz but it still reaches 90C. It probably re overclocks itself.
any solution?
Edit: "Normal" temps are in the high 50s low 60s. GPU stays really cool though.

Mine runs about 10 degrees lower than that. I added some copper heat sinks and diamond thermal compound to the cpu/gpu. You can also try an external steelseries keyboard
-
I don't have the tools to open it up where I am now (school) so that's out of question. Just after 15 minutes of gaming it thermal throttles and it feels incredibly hot to touch. Even at 2.7Ghz underclock it thermal throttles itself. What is up with my unit? Should I contact MSI?

I really want to buy ge62 with 4k screen.
I've read somewhere, that the GS60 display allows only 48hz refresh rate at any resolution.
Can someone tell if the GE62 with 4k screen is locked at 48hz or 60hz? -

that sucks cause the FHD display models are much more expensive where I live.
How much does a 48hz screen affects the daily experience? Like when I wanna watch a video with 60fps etc?
Would I notice the differences?
that would be a deal breaker to me although I want a laptop with really high ppi -

Depends on the kind of content you use with it and how sensitive to it you are, it's certainly not for people like me.
-
Basically, I don't think laptops are mature enough for a 4K screen right now. Windows has some scaling issues, and not a lot of laptops can game well at native 4K resolution. I suggest you would be better off buying a FHD display. -
I Bought mine last week. It is comming oversea maybe next week. I bought an 2.5in 500GBEVO a while ago while i decided about buying a new laptop, then this beauty showed up and beat everything from a price/performance ratio. Since i intend to move the HDD to the OD socket, whats the height of the caddy I need to buy, 12 or 9mm?

Another topic on which I have read contradicting things online is external monitor. I'd like to get a 24" display but only if I can get 120 hz on it. Is this possible?

lately i've noticed that while pressing keys the mousepad is blocked from pressing buttons, is this due to a setting that can be edited?
Or is this a hardware error? -
-
managed to figure it out,
turns out it's actually an obscure windows 8 setting hidden somewhere.
for those with the same issue, the solution is here:

"Okay, I just created an account to answer this question.
I finished downloading the windows 8.1 update yesterday, and noticed the same problem as OP shortly after. I tried a TON of ways to fix it but none worked.
The Fix is so stupidly easy I literally had to hit myself after finding it.
Windows 8.1 has a new feature called "Click Delay":
To prevent the cursor from accidentally moving while you type, change the delay before clicks work.Theres the problem.
To fix it, hover the cursor in the top right corner until the sidebar opens, click on SETTINGS, then on "Change PC Settings" in the bottom right. On the new screen, click "PC and Devices", and then on "Mouse and touchpad". The "Click Delay" settings are at the bottom.
Hope this helps" -
Hi guys, I'm thinking of buying the MSI GE62 2QF (Apache Pro)-021UK, and was looking for some answers. Please be aware that the last laptop I bought was the Dell XPS M1710, so I may not be upto date with all the techincal stuff !
Firstly, would HyperX Impact 16 GB (2 x 8 GB)1600 MHz DDR3L CL9 SODIMM:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/HyperX-Impa...5183&sr=1-6&keywords=sodimm+ddr3+1600mhz+16gb
work in the GE62, is this the right RAM ?
Also, I understand that there are three slots available for ssd drives (including the one used by the ssd that ships with the laptop. Are they all the the same time of slots, and would something like the Samsung Evo 850 500gb be the most suited to this laptop ?
Basically, from what I understand, the GE62 may come with a PCI-E ssd slot, which means that you could use a faster ssd (faster than sata 3). If this is the case, then which slot is the shipped ssd using ?
Ideally, I'd like to dual boot the system. I've read that performance wise, the 500gb evo 850 is better than the 256gb. Is there much difference in partioning the 500gb into two separate partions, rather than using two physical ssds ?
Another question is whether I should upgrade to windows 10 and then use software (e.g. the Samsung migration sw that comes with ssd), or migrate and then upgrade ? Either way, can I do a clean install of Windows 10, or will I lose some functionality and MSI tools etc by doing a clean install ?
This brings me on to another question about Windows 10, since there's no disc etc, what happens if my ssd gets messed up ? Will I have an activation key that I can use to reinstall Windows ?
Finally, one review I watched on youtube (I think it was simply of the MSI GE62 and not specifically the model I'm buying), said that you get a small backpack and gaming mouse in the box with the laptop. Did any of you receive these ?
Sorry for the long winded questions, I just want to make sure I have all the facts!
Thank you.
-
Sorry I don't have answers to all your questions but a few:
The latest model of this laptop comes with Windows 10 pre-installed. You don't have to upgrade or migrate. If you ever happen to do a clean install, you can download all the MSI tools from the MSI website support section. You may need these tools as they are all really cool and useful.
I got an MSI backpack free with this laptop and no gaming mouse. This is very regional and freebies depend on your region of purchase. -

If you want to use XTU just for underclocking, then i would recommend downloading Throttlestop v8.00 or higher instead. It is designed for underclocking with real time temperature measurement and it is very lightweight and it works. I used it for yrs
To use XTU's full potential. You should also undervolt CPU, Cache and graphics. It is safe, except for possibility of system reboot, while setting values to low. Every single piece of hardware has different optimal values, but if you set all three of them to -50 mV, you should be safe. My highest almost stable was -75 mV, but i have experienced random crashes, when system was idle. It should make your CPU run a lot cooler. For me about 8-10°C difference with -75 mv and 4-8°C difference with -50 mV. -

The cache voltage has a low impact on temps.

can someone tell me what that light atr the power button indicates?
normally it's blue but somehow it turned orange? what does that mean? -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Blue means the dedicated gpi is fully off, orange means the dedicated gpu has been activated.
-
Blue is the Intel gpu red is the Nvidia gpu
-
Thanks!
the laptop is new but I have a question about two things after using the laptop.
somehow the battery is not loading. it stopped at 98% and says (not charging). Is that normal?
another thing is(might be a windows 10 problem) that whenever I plug headphones , I hear a high constant beep sound. It's there although nothing is played. It's not loud but annoying. (tried uninstalling the audio driver)
But when I press the bar at the volume mixer, and plug the headphone while the sound is playing, there is no high beep sound. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Charging repeatedly from 98% to max wears the battery so they wait a bit before charging.
Have you made sure inputs like the mic are disabled? -
Kevin@GenTechPC Company Representative
Unfortunately, MSI did not create an utility to offer battery life to limit to 50%, 75%, or 100%.
Since you can't remove it so the better option is to keep it charged. -
the mic is disabled and also other inputs are.
is it also normal that the battery is 98%, not charging, always connected on the power supply , but is now 97%? -

I am back again with a question and i hope someone knows current and physics better then me (coz i am not really good at it). I would like to buy this (well, not from this source, but it doesn't matter). It has 30 000mAh capacity. Our inner battery has 51 Wh.
the formula should be: E = Q * V, so in units: Wh = mAh * V / 1000.
This implies, that mAh = Wh / V * 1000
So to the numbers...
our battery has 51Wh
voltage: 19V
51 / 19 * 1000 = 2684 mAh
30000 / 2684 = 11,17 rounded
So the powerbank would charge the notebook up to eleven times?? I must have counted it wrong or the formula is not suited for this case, i don't believe i could charge it so many timesLast edited: Sep 17, 2015 -
Hi! I'm new here, and have a question for you guys. I recently bought the Apache Pro 2QF-232 model (i7 5700, 16GB RAM, 970M 3GB, 1TB HDD + 128GB SSD), and have been using it for the past few weeks. It runs games really well, and so far I'm loving it. Absolutely amazing upgrade from my last laptop.
But I have been having a problem, and was wondering if anyone else had them, and what they did to fix it.
Bit of background: I am getting Nvidia driver crashes. Often, depending on the game. Sometimes I can play for hours without issue, but sometimes I don't last 5 minutes, and crashes just keep happening. Restarts or shutting down for a bit doesn't help. It happens mostly in intense games like BioShock Infinite, Metro 2033 Redux and Metro Last Light. But then lighter games like Sleeping Dogs run flawlessly all the time, no crashes. I have run hours upon hours of tests on the VRAM, GPU, CPU, and RAM. They always come out with zero errors (except for the two times when the GPU driver crashed mid test and disconnected from the computer, but the results didn't show anything unexpectedly wrong). Temperatures are fine while playing games. Highs around 72C for the GPU and 82C for the CPU. I have tried using different drivers, while doing the full uninstall with Display Driver Uninstaller. Have used the latest 355.82, MSI's recommended 347.88, and a bunch of other previous drivers.
I'm running Windows 8.1 - 64bit, and have not done any overclocking or hardware upgrades.
So, now I ask you. Has anyone else encountered any of these crashes? I have skimmed through most of the pages in this thread, and don't see much about video driver crashes. I know it's a common problem with other people, because there are hundreds of threads out there, with people using many different Nvidia cards, and getting crashes on drivers.
I am still covered under store warranty for an exchange. I will definitely stay with the GE62, but I'm thinking of just getting a new one, in case it is a hardware issue. What do you guys think? Any help is appreciated.
Thanks!
TL;DR: Getting Nvidia driver crashes. No obvious issue with hardware, and have tried a number of driver versions. Can exchange for new one, but would rather not. Need your help! -

The battery life is about 3 hours, see below URL.
http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2477456,00.asp
Have you updated BIOS & EC firmware to ensure the latest versions are being used?
If any of the above had been done then it can be a hardware issue. -
Thanks for your response. Actually i was able to squeeze more then 5 hrs from the battery by fine tuning voltage and other stuffbut my question was more about the power bank itself then the laptop battery. I was trying to calculate how much would the powerbank prolong the battery life, but it seems like it wouldn't work at all as it gives only 3A instead of 7A as our notebook needs.

Hey everyone,
I'm having 2 issues and am wondering whether anyone else has these issues. I have the 2QD version running Windows 10. I mostly use it for web surfing and playing CS:GO. I always play with the fans at 100% and have a laptop cooling pad running as well. I have played at both performance and balanced levels on the MSI shift program/battery settings and still have this issue. From time to time my game will completely freeze. The picture will be frozen and it will keep replaying the last 1/2 second of sound until I force shut down and restart. My event log says kernel 41 error and I have updated all drivers, unchecked the sleep mode/wake settings, and disabled my additional audio drivers. Sometimes I have no issue, sometimes I will have 3 in an hour. Any ideas?
The other issue is that randomly my computer won't shut down properly. It will go through the normal progressions and the screen will shut off, but the keyboard lights and fans are still running. What's up with this?
Thanks -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Try a different video driver, you could also try updating the system bios and EC to ensure nothing is corrupted.

Why is installing an SSD so confusing? What exactly am I supposed to do? Can someone give me instructions on how I should go about this for the GE72?
From what I've read and watched: Open back cover, install SSD, migrate OS from HDD to SSD with some software and boom, you're done.
But videos like this specific to the MSI make it a little more complex ( ). I don't have a 32GB flash drive or what not.
Anyway, someone who has done this before with no issues: can you please instruct a fellow (confused) owner? Thanks! -
-
Can anyone recommend a decent cooling pad they have used for this laptop?
This one looks decent and has good reviews but will one fan be enough for intense gaming?
http://www.amazon.com/Cooler-Master...442841737&sr=1-5&keywords=15+inch+cooling+pad
Also has anyone set up a couple of Evo 850s for Raid? Easy? Its something i havent done before but those two empty m.2 slots are making me crazy -
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Mostly it's the elevation of the back of the machine a little allowing the fans to breathe.
-
A cooling pad will make the surface a bit cooler. Make sure to pick one that has its fan near the heat vents. A middle would also be fine I guess as long as its pretty big.
Also my laptop reaches uncomfortable temps after just 30 minutes of gaming. I even underclocked via windows power options since XTU didnt work. Like it gets so hot I cant hold down WASD in games anymore.
Thoughts? My ambient is around 25.
Also I have the 960M, which isnt generatng much heat. Only the CPU burns.Last edited: Sep 22, 2015 -
What kind of surface do you play on? My laptop is kept on a wooden surface and ambient is around 25-30 and I get comfortable temps even after a few hours of gaming.
Although, I do enable Vsync for all games as I am comfortable with 60FPS lock so this keeps my temps at max 75cpu/68gpu.
If you dont mind not getting 120+fps on all ur games and if you are ok with 60fps then start using vsync in all your games as higher framerate tends to increase temperatures. -
-
Cap it to 60 with vsync and you dont have to undervolt/underclock. Everything will run well. Also, keep it in Sport mode while gaming for best results. Let us know how it goes
-
CPU 78c in GTA and 72-75 on everything else. But if I can save a few more degrees with a cooler then I want to!
