Just wanted to update in saying I received my GE62! Been loving it so far. Only thing I dislike is that mine has an HDD, but I have a 250gb SSD to replace it with, just a matter of moving all of Windows over that I'm having issues with.

Anyways, any must-do's after receiving the notebook? I messed with a few things, such as that awful yellow tint the display has as a default, but any recommendations as to what else I should change? What about overclocking and/or undervolting?

    Thanks!

Welp, just realized I could have gotten an m.2 250gb Samsung evo for the same price as my 250gb Samsung evo SSD. Guess I'll have to return it and make a swap.

Be sure to make a recovery disc set from the factory OS because if you are going to replace the system drive then you can use the discs to restore OS.

Hye guys, i am new here... glad to see the comrades of GE 62 2QFs...

BTW, my model is GE62 2QF Apache Pro with 4K Display (Max Refresh rate is 48Hz)...

Guys, I am having ONE HUGE problem right now... I think this occur after I installed Windows 10 about 2 Months ago... the issue is, when I am playing heavy games like Metal Gear Solid V : The Phantom Pain, The Witcher 3, Dragon Age Inquisition, the FPS will Drop a lot when the GPU temp achieve > 85°C...

When the GPU temp is below 85°C, the FPS will go about 45 - 48 FPS.... but when it get hotter than 85°C, it will start to lag a lot... the FPS will become around 30 - 39 FPS... I am using MSI After Burner + Rivatuner for Monitoring

So, when the issue is cause by the GPU's temp, then I assume that the culprit is MSI's Shift Mode software, but I had Re-Installed it a 'few' times but still... the issue does not solve...

So, I had mailed the MSI, they say that the Nvidia's Maxwell GPUs have been Under Clock when the GPU Temp achive 80°C...

Still, the 2nd thought of the problem is maybe my system is the culprit.... then, I backup all my data and do a CLEAN installation of Windows 10...
Then, after the Windows 10 is successfully activated, installed all the MSI's Official Driver according to sequences... Then, the only utility that I installed is the MSI After Burner + RivaTuner... but still... NO luck... the problem still occur...

My GPU's Idle temperature is around : 56°C

The issue (FPS DROP) most likely occur after 10 minutes of gameplay... Man... there is no fun when U play in Laggy condition !!

So, anyone here knows how to fix this? I think that I wanna OverClock my GPU... but there will be much thing to do... such as modding the VBios.....

    Hey people!

I'm completely new to this forum. Honestly, I made an account JUST because of this thread. I bought an Apache Pro last week. I've had it for about 2 days now and so far, things seem fine. I ran into a couple of hitches but I fixed 'em.

I have the GE62-2QEWi781. Since I'm in Austria, this one came with a German QWERTZ keyboard (I had no option to select an English QWERTY when I bought it off of Amazon) but I've changed it to International English so as long as I don't look at the keyboard while typing, all is good, haha! It has a 5th Gen i7, a GTX 965M, a 1 TB HDD and 8 gigs of RAM. Some time in the future, I might consider picking up a couple of SSDs and RAIDing them across the SATA3 ports (I have one PCIe and 2 SATA3s. At least, that's what the manual that came saved on the laptop says; any way to be sure?)

The partitioning for the HDD was damn messy. I had to use GParted off a USB drive to make sure my C and D drives were next to each other (I typically use D drive for storing data and for installing unimportant programs). The stock config was:
    300 MB EFI System Partition - 571 GB C: - 900 MB Recovery Partition - 339 GB D: - 19 GB Recovery Partition.
After shrinking C: to 288GB and deleting D:, I moved the 900MB recovery partition to just before the 19 GB one, giving me a decently sized D: :)

Another glitch was the Nvidia GeForce Experience software - it kept saying "unable to connect to Nvidia". I downloaded the latest version off their website and things are fine now.

Apart from that, the thing has a LOT of programs on it. Booting times are almost slower than my ancient Dell Inspiron N4110! I uninstalled Norton first off and I've disabled most of the start up entries except for the Steel Series engine and the Nvidia thing. Dragon Gaming center keeps starting up without a startup entry, though. No clue why.

Also, the Shift and P1 functions don't seem to work for some reason. Fn+F4 doesn't launch the Dragon Gaming center and Fn+F7 doesn't shift anything. Fn+F3 and Fn+10 work just fine though. Any ideas why?

Any recommendations about anything? This is essentially my first ever gaming rig. Any software/hardware that y'all classify as a "must have" or anything I should specifically avoid?

Hye ' AkshayRao27', about ur problem regarding hotkeys... try to Re-Install SCM first, then, proceed with Dragon Gaming Center Installation... then the hotkey FN + F7 (Shift mode) will work...

What environment are you using your laptop in? I've played plenty demanding games on my GE62 (the FHD version by the way) and I've never seen GPU temps go above 80 degrees, even with +135MHz overclock.

Re-installing SCM did the trick. I didn't have to re-install Dragon Gaming Center.

Is it possible to create new custom keybindings apart from the Fn+1 ~ Fn+0 ones?

Which VBIOS did you end up using? Prema?

Regarding Power button's LED color, only certain models have color difference, but if you have GE62, then it should not have any color difference.
This is user's manual for GE62 in regards to power button.

I believe there are some good tips all over the forums that you can search to find out. It's not easy though.
Blue = IGD (Intel) / Power Saving
Orange = PEG (Nvidia) / Performance

Hey, i am finally able to stabilize my MAX OverClock (GTX 970M 3072MB) !!

    # This is 3DMark11 FireStrike's BenchMark Scores

    1) Default [Power limit 200%] : 6533

    2) OverClocked settings [Max at Stable Temperature, Power Limit 200%, GPU Core Clock : +205, Memory Clock : +180] : 7220

Suppposedly I can O.Ced more, but the Nvidia had set to Down Clock performance when the GPU temp reach 87° C. When it is downcloaked, the game performance will suffer about 30-60% Drop in FPS....

So, that is my settings for GPU OverCloak... the increase is about ONLY 10% though....

So, any comments and tips to give me??

This has been bothering me for ages, but why does GPU-Z report core clock and memory clock for the HD5600 (yes, I'm rocking the Broadwell version) as 0? When I go to MSI Afterburner, it doesn't even show me the graphs. Should I be worried?

I mean I get all the 'unknown' stuff, since the HD 5600 is a rare GPU (as far as I know the i7-5700HQ is the only CPU that uses it) but 0MHz for the GPU and memory clock? What's up with that?

So tonight, I'm gonna try (again) to migrate over Windows 10 and all my stuff on it to my new SSD. Any recommendations on what tool will make it the easiest transition? EaseUS maybe? I'm just afraid to download anything Im not positive of. Early on, I'm overly-paranoid about malware and adware.

    So yeah, any suggestions?

It does for the dGPU, but the iGPU does nothing. I can't see the clock values in MSI Afterburner as well, the graphs don't even exist.

You can definitely run Windows 7 on this machine (even in UEFI mode) but you might run into problems when installing drivers. The drivers on MSI's website are for Windows 8.1 and up, so they may or may not work perfectly on Windows 7. You'll have to source drivers individually from the part makers, like Intel for the iGPU and NVIDIA for the dGPU.

Thanks! I'll look into that as well.

I was asking which program to migrate would be best. Sorry if my post wasn't clear.

Not yet. By "new SSD" I just meant one I've newly acquired.

I apologize for my stupidity, as I have never cloned an HDD to an SSD before.

When selecting the source drive, multiple options pop up as seen here:

I can only select one. The "OS_Install C:" will contain my operating system to clone over, correct? I'm just thrown off by the bottom right "Other" having 18.70gb of data on it. Are all the "Other"s just cache/backup? Will everything I wish to copy overbe on the "OS_Install?" I"m also rather thrown off since my HDD is 750gb.

Thanks, and again, I apologize for my inexperience.

So I just ended up asking MSI's tech support about my iGPU. Seems kinda odd that the sensors return GPU load values correctly while I'm getting nothing for the core&memory clock. We'll see how this goes...
