Hey everyone again. Unfortunately my GE62 2QD Apache Pro appears to not be functional. I put my pc to sleep like I normally do. The next day i saw the power led blinking so i thought all was well.

Nope. Black screen. I waited for a good 5 mins and nothing happened so i force powererd the syatem off. Tried turning it on. Keyboard leds light up but nothing.

    things ive tried:
    • ec reset via pinhole
    • cmos reset by taking battery out and cmos battery and holding down power button
    • take wireless card out
    • change ram and slot config
    • change slots the ssd was plugged into and took it out
    • plug into to 2x external monitors which outputs bios screen to the external displays normally. still nothing

I was able to see the msi screen blink for a second when i hit delete but then nothing after that and i cant reproduce it.

I can change led brightness of the keyboard and coolerboost works so i thought may be it could be saved. If any of you can help me i would be forever grateful. This laptop has been nothing but hell. =(

What was the last thing you were doing before this issue has occurred?

I was on firefox watching a video on youtube, then i put it to sleep. I used Windows 10s power options to cap the frequency at 1.6GHz.
Not sure how MSI will deal with a 4/5 year old model if i send it in if they will at all. Heard many bad stories about MSI support

MSI may still have parts for your system but it's better to let them run diagnostics on your system. It could have been a failed GPU, or other things.
Give them a call and see if you can send it in for repair, you can also ask for a rough estimate since GE62 is one board solution with both CPU and GPU soldered on-board.

Does anyone have a guide on how to clean the keyboard and/or the fans? I'm too afraid to open it myself without a video guide or any guide for that matter. Plus I don't trust services here to do the job, fearing that they might exploit me. Anyway, any sort of help will be greatly appreciated.

Use a vacuum and/or blower. vacuum helps to extract anything from the vent so it gets properly cleaned, blower can be used to clean certain area but you don't want to blow the dust into the system.

Hey guys! I haven't been here in a while.

So, I've done my research and I was hoping I could get some help on opening my GE62VR for the first time. I've got my compressed air (which was a complete chore to find here in my country), and tools. I've got a few questions if you guys wouldn't mind.

    1. I have three options for thermal paste here, which one would you recommend. I've seen mixed reviews for each online except for the generic one. Also what's the best method to apply, like how much is too much?
    2. How do I prepare my laptop before opening up? I've been checking ways to benchmark before and after but I can't seem to remember or find the right applications for doing so again.
    3. How do I avoid frying my laptop?
    4. What checks do I need to do after applying?
    5. I can only find video guides for GE62 but not GE62VR, I did some digging and saw that they almost have identical internals, do you guys have recommendations?

    Thanks a bunch!
