I'm impressed. I owned a MacBook Pro 15 2013, but this machine is very good.
I can do light usage without heat or noise, the fans don't completely stop but are very quiet. The build quality is good, very good, the keyboard has no flex in normal usage, just some minor ones with applied strength.

I ordered from gentechpc and couldn't be more happy with the choice.

Do you mind posting some temps during idle and temps during heavy use? Is the display nice?

Also, how long did it take Gentech to get it to you?

Depends how much traveling you will be doing with the laptop. If it's going to stay home most of the time then definitely go with the 17". If you plan on using it for work or school then maybe stick with the 15".

It will be staying home most of the time, but I figured on just getting the 15" and a bigger monitor to plug it in to if I wanted something bigger. However if there are no downsides to the 17" other than travel restrictions then I see no reason not to get it.

If anything there is only upside in your case. The 17" should have better thermals due the larger body.

Got mine in! Keyboard is fantastic. Temps under benchmarks don't exceed 70C when the GTX 1070 is OC'd with the liquid metal paste upgrade from GenTechPC. ~18,500 gpu firestrike score with OC. Build quality is tops.

Damn. That's just sick for a laptop that size. Laptop's twice it's size are lucky to stay under 85.

How loud do the fans get?

The fans max around 5500 rpm, and with a quick smartphone decibel measurement, 55 dB next to the fans.

I advised incorrectly. Gen2 is the latest USB 3.1 Type-C spec, but it does not support Thunderbolt 3, so it will not support the Razer Core.

We will correct our website shortly.

For those of you who ordered the Raider, did you stick with the stock thermal paste or did you upgrade it to something else? I only ask because I've heard that while the Temps are slightly higher with the stock paste, it will last a lot longer than others. I've been reading that IC Diamond doesn't last long and should be re-pasted once a year. I've also read that the stock MSI paste lasts 3+ years without drying up.

Does anyone know how long Liquid Ultra lasts?

The screen is a CMN1747. I upgraded the paste to Liquid Ultra, I think liquid metal does not need a repaste. MSI stock is thicker than I'd like but the PC will still work without throttling out of the box in my experience.

On the verge of buying this one.
Can anyone that plays GTA V let me know if the temps and fan noise are okay when you tone down the settings a bit? Would like to do some GTA Online racing on my laptop in the sofa next to the girlfriend. But if it sounds like 15 hair blowers...

Also never owned an MSI product before and am a bit scared about the battery drain/screen tint/microstuttering that some people have...

Can't comment on GTA, but my screen doesn't have a tint. Did have microstuttering, resolved by reinstalling windows through the Windows options, NOT the MSI factory option.

How is the laptop on your laptop? Way too hot, or okay?

Hopefully someone else will be able to answer my GTA V question.

On-lap the unit does get warm but not uncomfortably so. Playing a graphically light game like League of Legends didn't result in any temps over 68C--and that was the CPU's temp.

This is the first I head of micro stuttering. When did it happen the most and how often?

Also, where did you get your unit from? I would have imagined a decent re-seller would have checked those issues.

It happened randomly (pretty infrequently) when using Windows and swapping between games and general windows tasks. I've searched forums and found it to be a weird a) trackpad driver issue and/or b) nVidia optimus issue. Nothing a good, clean Windows reinstall couldn't cure. No issues now. :)

Awesome. Thanks for the info. Do you know if there is a software setting that allows you to manually turn Optimus on and Off? My laptop stays plugged in most of the time so I'll probably just disable it if there is an option for it.

Not exactly. You can set your dGPU as the preferred GPU in the nVidia control panel and that can help. :) This link here should give you the best rundown of microstuttering solutions.

That's funny you bring this up because they had it on Amazon for 4 days at the wrong price. The one you see now for $1865 was $1724 for the past 4 days. I knew it would change. Just surprised it took this long.

If you order from Gentech, they have a coupon code for $50 off. It is promospro.

I trust Gentech more than CUK and they offer more upgrade options. They are also running some nice promotions such as free thermal paste upgrade.

I prefer the ge63 hands down but i would want to know what i would be missing if i opted for the 63vs the 73? which screen is better interms of viewing angles/input. is the 15inch really 3ms vs the 5ms on the ge73? also how many nits are they? I should be able to get a better price at xoticpc since i am a returning customer(but generally wasnt happy with them) but i know gentech could easily match that.

Heya! So, I have that exact GE73VR model from GenTechPC, and using the code 'promospro' at checkout the total was ~$1850. So, I think the GE63VR from there would be right around ~$1755. They also have some good free upgrades, especially on liquid metal thermal paste right now. HID is also a stellar option; Donald's the man! Now between the two models, 3ms vs 5ms won't matter. From personal experience, I never have ghosting on the 5ms panel so any difference in pixel response rate at that level is negligible. As for displays, both will be Chi Mei panels and should be about equal in terms of color accuracy and viewing angles. Max brightness is right around 300 nits.

I heard that the 17inch panel have good viewing angles despite it being TN. Do you think the panel on the ge63 has good viewing angles too? Also how does it feel? I mean is it premium like the alienware? I am spoiled by the build quality of the AW and i had a very bad experience owning a ge60 from 2012. It was really plasticy but it kept the weight down thats why i settled for it.

    Just received my GE63VR.

    - Do you guys recommend reinstalling Windows from start? Or is there simply some bloatware I need to remove?

    - Where can I buy a second charger? Since this one weighs a ****ton, I'd rather have two (one at home and one at work)

    - Is it possible to switch the "fn" and "windows" keys? Can't find the fn key in steelseries program.
Would be much more logical for me if they were switched.

Really liking build quality so far.
Some questions about the reinstall though: how do you recommend reinstalling? And don't I need some programs like the steelseries keyboard lightning and dragoncenter, how would I get these after reinstalling?

The panel on the GE63 will be very similar in clarity to the GE73. They've got great color and viewing angles for being TN units. The laptop feels solid. The top and palm are brushed aluminum, the hinges are tight and don't creak, and the bottom is well-molded plastics. Nothing will feel as premium as the Alienware, but the new MSI's are of high quality.

any initial thoughts on the unit? Also any idea how many watt hour the battery is? I know for a fact my alienware has a 99wh battery just a hair below what is allowed in the airplane.

nice! wont be getting the warranty stuff anymore as i am not residing in the us. Thats a nice storage setup! if only i could afford it :p. Trying not to spend over 2000usd. I want to get it too but i have tons of concerns like how is this better than the ge63 when the "gt" line up is msi's top of the line laptop so i think there is a strong chance that it might get refreshed dont you think? mxm gpu + 120hz panels :O

in technology now everything could happen just enjoy the moment if u want to wait you will spend your whole life waiting for new things so since 1070 will give a good portable gaming laptop that u can take every where and weight less than 3 kilos , then im very happy :D

so just a advice stop hunting every new thing because u wont buy anything XD

ofc! thats actually my attitude towards tech too. i know the 1070 will last me a couple of years atleast thats why i want something with the same power as what i have now but it just doesnt make sense how and why the raider series if better(from reviews and the few people who own the system already) is better than the gt series. Also any idea if the camera supports windows hello?
