@fayth there is a sticker that says "factory seal", nothing about warranty though.
Carrying the laptop around every day is doable. Carrying the MASSIVE adapter also in my briefcase is impossible.
Where can I buy the same adapter?

I can find this brick when I google "a 12-230p1a", but the connector is the wrong format everywhere... Very frustrating.
-
factory seal ? would you mind to post pic from bottom panel please ?
how much weight from that power break alone ? -
Mine is still being customized but can speak from personal experience on the warranty void seal ...... if you purchase from a reseller like GenTechPC or the others ...... any warranty will be honored since the seal was broken to upgrade. Had an issue with GT72 and contacted vendor, received RMA and MSI completed the repair. The most painless RMA I ever had. Not sure if the same applies to Amazon .... YMMV.fayth likes this.

Hey All,
I am considering the GE73 Vr and I am trying to figure out if the following external battery will work for it ...
https://www.amazon.com/GBTIGER-5000...l-Notebook/dp/B01EMXCSL4/ref=cm_cd_al_qh_dp_t
But my electrical knowledge is a bit limited.
It look like the laptop takes in "180W 19V DC", so I am guessing I am ok
Any thoughts on this?
Thanks
Nick -
I am not an electrician but think the most you could hope for is to get a few more minutes of use out of it depending on what you're working on. The reason for saying this is a comment in the items Amazon description - " Can not Charge Laptop with DC Current Over 5A"
The power brick pictured in previous post above indicated DC output of 19.5 volts at 11.8 amps. I think the best you could hope for is additional power to supplement the battery but not charge it. You would have to have a power plan that uses on-board graphics and turns off anything not needed (Bluetooth, etc).
Anyone with more knowledge on this please correct as needed. -
Is a 180 Watt Power Supply enough for the 1070 version of this laptop? Why wouldn't it come with a 230 Watt?

Not certain what system you are looking at. Here is the MSI URL listing different GE73's
https://us.msi.com/Laptop/GE73VR-Raider.html#hero-specification
It appears the only ones that have 180 watt ps are the 1060 system and a 1070 that is using lower level drives with no M.2.Sata.
Here is the MSI URL listing different GE63's
https://us.msi.com/Laptop/GE63VR-Raider.html#hero-specification
It appears the same though the last one is not listed. 180 watt systems have the 1060. Last one that is blank on ps is 1070 but again no M.2.Sata.
This may be a question to ask in the MSI Manufacturer section of the forum. -
Thanks for the info. I spent quite a bit of time last night and even contacted the manufacturer. They said that it will work, but I dont think they are right. As far as I can tell using an underpowered source will marginally work, at best and could cause the thing to overheat by trying to pull too much power.

can you check if it has windows hello via webcam? thanks!

For those that own it, is the display noticeably dim? Is the keyboard as bad as this guy says and does the keyboard get uncomfortably warm while playing games?

For me the keyboard is good, coming from a macbook and a Razer Keyboard, I feel very comfortable with it. The only problem for me is the choice of making the windows key on the right side, I'm getting used by now but I don't see the reasoning other than people that hit the Windows Key by accident while playing, and the software already has a option to disable Windows Key if this was a problem. While playing, the keyboard gets warm, but not hot.

This keyboard is fantastic. Love the lighting, love the feedback. Very solid. The display definitely isn't dim; I'd say it's average brightness. Keyboard gets averagely warm, nothing even close to uncomfortable.

This is my biggest pet peeve with this laptop! Surely some program must exist to switch the fn and windows keys??
I use a lot of shortcuts with the windows key like WINDOWS+E (opens explorer), WINDOWS+D (Minimizes everything) etc, they're a pain in the ass to use right now...
If I could someone switch the fn and windows keys through software I would be very happy. -
There is a software call Sharpkeys which changes any button layout by editing the registry, very easy to use and doesnt take any resource cos its not exactly a program once the change is done.

Planning to buy this laptop soon as its one of the newer laptops to come to my country. Question i have is i heard the ssd included is abit slow and is not a 'real' ssd ,like its sata based ssd or somethng. So do i lose all advantages like faster boot times, game load times over a much faster ssd.
-
...
-
It is a real SSD. Most standard models come with a SATA M. 2.
If you're referring to NVMe as a real SSD then yes, they are faster but in real life scenarios you will experience no difference in terms of speed.
Most people buy NVMe to pound there chests. Personally, I'd rather save my money and purchase a higher capacity SATA.

Anybody knows smth about 4K panel at GE63VR 7RF? When it will be available?

For those who have had their Raiders for a few day/weeks, how are you liking you purchase? Have you noticed any flaws? Are Temps staying under control?

Hi, i just got the new MSI GE73VR with 1070 a week ago to be exact. I chose this laptop over Asus and Acer because of the cooler boost 5 and 2 extra ventilation compared to older model such as GE72VR. And here i thought it will run the game cooler. i played battlefield 1 with auto fan and temp are around 79-85C(peaked at 89C in hwinfo) for the CPU and around 74C for the GPU just after 5 minutes into the game. Is this normal? Should the laptop be running cooler? should i order a new piece?
Your post above about the idle and normal temperature during usage is same as mine. reach 60C maximum during browsing or watching videos
p.s.1) I did not update the new bios or any firmaware yet. 2) im running on default msi factory windows(no fresh install) 3) do you recomend undervolting? 4) is my laptop faulty or is it normal?gnarkill283 likes this. -

That's fine and you don't have to worry about the temperature because the max it will ever reach is 90C. However, if you encounter spikes in fps plus you are hitting 90C constantly then you may need to reduce visual quality to bring fps to a stable rate. -
I honestly think the easiest way to bring down Temps is to cap the FPS. I usually just cap the FPS to whatever the refresh rate of my display is. Anything over that is a waste and is stressing your system for no apparent reason.

maybe you need to remove some bloatware ? or doing some clean windows instalation.
kevin, if i upgrade myself the SSD and broke the seal on the bottom panel(factory seal), did i void the product warranty ? or this kind warranty policy is different on each country ?
thanks in advance for your response. -
Thanks for the fast reply. Since its not GT series and its a slim laptop for a 1070. I expected a high temperature but around 75-80C max. Played for one hour there was no fps spike or performance decrease and FPS stayed above 90s in ultra preset. And i thought i was getting a faulty piece.gnarkill283 likes this.

Is that Ge73 or Ge63? if its GE73. Can you tell me some of your benchmark and temperature during gaming? Have you updated BIOS and EC firmware? Are you running on clean/new/fresh windows?
-
Hello, i heard alot of guys here recommend a clean windows installation. How does that work exactly, is it the 'refresh pc' option which reinstalls the same licensed copy of windows, OR means installing a new pirated windows entirely? I think auto recovery reinstalls all softwares ( also bloatwares) or does it?
-
Kevin@GenTechPC Company Representative
You can break the seal to perform upgrade so long you don't cause any physical damages to the components. -
Kevin@GenTechPC Company Representative
The 90C on your machine is different than the 90C on GT due to difference in thermal dissipation performance. -
thanks for the response kevin, is the warranty policy like that applied by MSI on each country ? -
Kevin@GenTechPC Company Representative
Yes, they can't legally restrict customers from upgrading the components. -
glad to know that, thanks in advance for the information kevin.
-
Hello again Kevin. Can you please elaborate in that if you don't mind?
-
Hello GE63VR Raider owners,
How's the laptop is it better than GS63VR stealth pro ? I am thinking of buying this laptop from Gentech PC. Hope @Kevin@GenTechPC helps me with suggestion for configuration -
Kevin@GenTechPC Company Representative
Raider has 2X PCIe slot and Stealth has 1 only.
Raider is easier to access the RAM and SSD by just removing the cover. -
I received my laptop 1 week ago from GentechPC. I had some issues with the order, but I seemed to have fixed the issues on my own. The only issue I am having is that the GPU Temperature is N/A. I am not able to detect the temperature and I'm not sure if that is a hardware issue.
-
What are you first impressions? How is it behaving performance/temperature wise?
-
From day one you couldn't?
Ask Gentech how they saw the temp during their testing.

Hwmonitor should be able to read it.
-
But I read somewhere that it's not having thunderbolt port. Can USB 3.1c be used as thunderbolt?
-
@Kevin@GenTechPC may I know why raid array is disabled in msi ge63vr raider-075
-
Do you only have 1 SSD installed?
Besides, RAID 0 is worthless on SSD's.

USB C 3.0 < USB C 3.1 < Thunderbolt 3.
USB C 3.1 has bandwidth of 10 Gbps, Thunderbolt 3 has 40 Gbps. Physically, they all use the same connection. -
The laptop motherboard probably couldn't even capitalize a Raid 0 configuration. I believe there are only a few desktop motherboards with chipsets that could actually get the expected read and write speeds of two NVMe SSDs in Raid 0. I'm getting two Samsung 960 Evo NVMe for my Raider, and they are already insanely fast (3200 MB/s and 1900 MB/s).

A newly launched laptop doesn't have thunderbolt 3Kevin@GenTechPC likes this.

Cheaper laptop gs stealth series is having thunderbolt 3Kevin@GenTechPC likes this.

USB 3.1 cannot be used as a thunderbolt 3 but thunderbolt 3 can be used as USB 3.1. You can also refer to this article below.

Got it. So now I have to look other models as Raider is not having thunderbolt portKevin@GenTechPC likes this.

so the USB type C gen 2 on this GE63VR raider cannot using graphic amplifier like razer core ?

That's correct, it needs TB3 to work.
