Awesome, thank you!! This is great! What kind of load was the laptop under when you took these temps?

Careful! If you're buying it, that means you're gonna be the next person we all bug with questions! ;) :D

    You're very welcome! :)

Wow. Really? I guess I need a new cooling pad. Not a whole lot of difference...

And it's not that the speakers are horrible. They can get pretty loud, but I certainly wouldn't call them impressive by any means.

Nice. And one further question: how long did you have all that running before you took the temp?

I haven't bought a windows laptop for a while but I know alot of them come with a bunch of stickers/badges on the wrist rest area. Coming from a Macbook that doesn't have any, can I say how bad I hate these badges? Can you tell me what badges come on the laptop? I saw this picture, is that big badge on the bottom right really there on the actual models? Or is that just a demo thing for the display laptops? [IMG]

5-10 minutes maybe? While actually moving around and playing, mind you. Maybe I'll load up Shadow of Mordor and run the benchmark. I think I will, actually.

Awesome! Thanks for the pic. Mind telling me how you removed it? From the pic it looks great. 100 times better than that big sticker.

Edit. P.S. I am leaning more and more towards this laptop...

@babblin5 - I come from the Clevo forums, holding a 13.3" W230SS (my 860M has worked tirelessly for two years now - with some care, I hope it lives for another two years).

I was considering upgrading to a 14" notebook from Clevo containing the 1060, but such a thing was not to be because Clevo apparently wishes to use the 1050/1050 Ti in it. That's quite inadmissible for me - it'd be a side-grade, not an upgrade from my W230SS.

I notice that the 1060 in the GS43VR actually has five heat-pipes to different heatsinks - that looks like a great plus. Mass- and dimensions-wise, it appears to be a decent improvement over my current notebook, too.

One request - I frequently find that out of all my games, Witcher 3 is the most taxing. If you own it, could you play it for an extended period of time, preferably at Novigrad, as well as attempt to find the optimal configuration of settings that allow for at least 50 FPS at the native resolution? Not to mention obtaining temperatures for the two slabs of silicon (i7-6700HQ and GTX 1060) while under load?

Thank you very much, and thanks @Prototime for the links.

For those of us without previous experience with MSI models, here's some useful info about MSI's power modes from another thread: basically, set the power save mode in the SW control center to "sport" to get the best performance and avoid MSI's built-in throttling mechanisms. Thanks to @aqnb for the info.

GOOD HEAVENS I LOVE This thread!
Special thanks to @babblin5 for the extra valuable information about the GS43VR.

I have few more questions though :p sorry for the annoyance!

1- How do you like the red backlight on this laptop? I would appreciate it if you give a brief impression. I want to make sure I'm willing to sacrifice the RGB colors over the size. (I was going for the 15" GS but I need a smaller laptop for my convenience)

2- Does this have dedicated buttons for cooler boost and backlight like those in the GE series? I looked at the photos provided but I can't seem to find them. If they're not there, do I have to enable them through the Dragon center?

And that's about it! Thanks a lot once again.

Lifted a corner with a fingernail, then grabbed it with a pair of tweezers. That left behind the glue, but luckily that balled up cleanly using just a finger, then a microfiber cloth. Took all of a minute maybe.

Personally, I would have loved a warm white yellow backlight, but it's not bad at all to me...certainly not a deal breaker. As far as dedicated buttons, I think this goes one better because you can program the function keys for whatever you want, and (if I'm remembering correctly) have game specific/program specific function key sets.

    Hi all,

First time to post here. First of all thanks to @babblin5 and @Miss Maven for all the info. Like most people here im looking for a new (and first) gamming laptop. I will probably buy the MSI gs43vr or the gs63vr but im undecided because of details like quality, temp, build and design. Are there any Sager/Clevo slim laptop? if yes Is there any diff in quality, temp, build and design with msi? Has MSI better/worse quality, temp, etc ?

    Thanks for all the info!

image.png Shadow of Mordor benchmark, repeated 5 times consecutively. GeForce Experience optimized settings are full screen, full ultra everything, btw. Scores were 78AVG, 39MIN, and 118MAX. Min FPS was an occasional blip, not even qualifying as a noticeable stutter.

Thank you so much for the information so far ! Super excited about this laptop, lost between the GS43VR and GS63VR :
Can you please comment about battery life on the GS43VR when you get a chance. Supposedly the GS63VR only lasts about 2 hours but has better cooling (it has 3 fans and a larger chassis)

    This is a review for the GS63 : http://www.tbreak.com/reviews/msi-gs63vr-6rf-stealth-pro
For me the deal breaker is the battery life. Although the cooling and fan noise seems to be better on the GS63.

Honestly I was so torn on which to order as well but i value portability over a rainbow keyboard and a 4k display I wouldn't be able to properly utilize with the 1060. After receiving this bad boy i have NO regrets, the build quality looks and feels fantastic, it is SO light and easy to open, hold etc. It is everything I wanted the blade to be really. I couldn't justify spending the xtra on the GS63VR which is bigger but still has only a 1060 in it. If anything I woulda went with the Asus Strix with the 1070 instead.

I love this thing! i might not sell it to my friend after all depending on how far new blade is away..

The GS40 had better battery life than the GS60... fingers crossed that the GS43VR has better battery life than the GS63VR too.

Now that I have seen enough in this thread about the GS43VR, I'll have to wait for some time before I truly decide which to pick. Knowing how picky I am, I might even ditch the 14" option and simply go for a GE62VR. But not before I end up convinced to get one and sacrifice weight!

That's awesome. I just heard the GS63VR only gets 2 hours battery life. I need this for school also, not just games so that is a deal breaker for me. I think I will look into the GS43VR and the Asus one you mentioned. I've been looking at both the 1060 and 1070 Asus ones. Seems like the build quality might be a little worse on those though. I've heard the keyboard has some flex to it.

You're very welcome! I'm experienced, but certainly no expert. Is it of MacBook Air quality? Absolutely not. But my overall impression is that the build is solid considering the lightweight design focus. For example, the bottom plastic cover is REALLY thin, kind of shocking when you take it off because when it's in place, you wouldn't have guessed that by how solid it feels. That, to me, is a sign of solid engineering and craftsmanship. My expectations might not be average though, because I tend to be an early adaptor (when I can afford to be, anyway). I can say without any hesitation that I'm overall very pleased so far.

Hey buddy, I buy laptops from Spain too (I live in Morocco but the tax kills everything here). I still haven't managed to find any of the new Pascal laptops yet. I wonder when they will come in!
I asked one of the MSI resellers (Coolmod and AppInformatica), they told me the new arrivals are due in 1st of 2nd weeks of September.

    @Garridovic

It might be a while before i pick it up, few weeks, am a student studying abroad, right now im just at home. Gonna go after holidays, and buy in store probably, they already have it in stock since the second NDA was lifted. Will surely post my experience, pics, temps and stuff etc when i get it, but im guessing all that info will be abundant here on NBR by then

Great performance, and those temps are much better than I was expecting. If, in the future, you get the chance to play a game on it for a few hours at a time on max settings, I'd be really curious to see if you could post the temps/performance scores then, to see what the throttling situation looks like. Thanks again for everything :)

@babblin5 thanks for your answer. With quality I mean that the chasis and the overall laptop should feel "right", robust and durable. As far as I know the Sager/Clevo are cheapers but im not sure if they sacrifice any of the previously quoted "details". So i'll trust in your opinon. Any experience with Sager/Clevo?

    Thanks again dude!
