They didn't provide it, they only mentioned that it is present on the system.

Hi. may be someone have same issues like me and know how to solve them. I have low performance in games almost in all. lower than 30-35 in battlefield 1 in any setting, in low settings may rise till 40. Today on farcry 5 i had only 23-33 in lowest settings. I think with 1060 6 gb fps shoud be higher. May be some one knows what kinda problem is that software or hardware. I hope it is software. All games runs on 1060 not on integrated card, I checked few times. Thanks

you should check the options in Dragon center. you should select the turbo or sport under system setting so the gpu will run max. i had the same problem and it fixed it.

I have MSI GS43VR with GTX 1060 6GB. I played fortnite for 3 hours and my GPU was hitting 94C and CPU was hitting around 90C. I elevated the back of the laptop a little bit for airflow but didn't help. I set the fan to cooler boost and it didnt drop the temps. My question is are these temps normal? or should i send it for repair?

Isn't the Sabre Dac a "Hifi board"?
Because some models just completely omit it, even though the same motherboard is used (depending on region/chipset).

Here's a picture of the hifi board at 7:20+

did you check the temps while gaming? maybe it is overheating and throttling the gpu. other thing you could do is install msi afterburner and check the gpu and cpu clock speed and temps. you can also install a fresh copy of windows with fresh nvidia drivers and see if it solves the issue. i think if the gpu is bust it wouldnt run the games and crash. but that is my opinion.

with right click in new window, then you can see.
By the way I solved problem. Problem was in gpu fans. The speed of fans was too slow and it can't cool the gpu. Manually increased speed and now core clock is fine. I don't know why automatically fans was so slow

You can also reduce the quality setting in the game to obtain a lower temperature readout.

Well I thought it was solved. I'm right back to the intermittent freezing.

Is there a perscribed protocal for getting the GS43 back up to original performance when a non MSI, Windows 10 reset is exectuted? Experiencing performance issues within SteamVR/MasterpieceVR
    .

    **Update**

Uninstalled/reinstalled SteamVR as well as Masterpiece. The very first trigger pull causes the loading (purgatory screen?) to pop up, but very quickly goes back to MPVR, and all subsequent strokes are fine and there is no freezing or stuttering.

Must have been a bad install. Go figure. Heart rate returning to normal...

Hey all - I foolishly attempted to reset my GS43 only to run into a snafu that ended up requiring me to resinstall Windows 10 using the Media Creation Tool, instead of the MSI provided image.

I've gone through and installed most if not all (I think) of the relevant drivers and utilities from the MSI support page. Despite this, when I attempt to run SteamFr/Masterpiece VR I get terrible stuttering (or perhaps better described as very brief freezing). This was not the case prior to the reinstall.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I use Masterpiece for work, and this is not good. :) Thanks!

    1. You can use the image provided by Phoenix on the forum, but you will need to load the drivers associated with your model.
    2. You can contact your local MSI support office to obtain factory recovery image tool, service charge and shipping may apply.

It can be a crap shoot at times to get replacement batteries for MSI, usually used pulls as MSI doesn't sell replacement batteries to end users (that I know of), but you can find them on Ebay, and even Amazon has listings for new replacements - 3rd party equivalent's - hopefully they have the correct fitment dimensions:

    Yafda BTY-M47 New Laptop Battery for MSI GS43 ,MSI GS43VR ,MSI GS43VR 6RE ,MSI GS43VR 6RE-045CN, MSI GS40 series [ 7.6V8060mAh /61.25Wh ]
    Price: $78.99 & FREE Shipping

    https://www.amazon.com/Yafda-BTY-M47-Battery-6RE-045CN-7-6V8060mAh/dp/B076XCMSFY

    Here's another option:

    MSI GS43VR Battery Replacement
    http://www.love-battery.com/product_detail.asp?id=10649

    And, another:

    Brand new BTY-M47 Laptop batteries for MSI GS40 6QE GS43VR GS43 7.6V 61.25Wh 4cell
    https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Bra...6QE-GS43VR-GS43-7-6V-61-25Wh/32829391156.html

I'd look around some more, and see if you can get an idea what a fair price is, and find some consensus on what a slide in replacement will be - if actually available.

Here's a good post about this from a couple of years ago on the MSI forums:

Where to get a replacement battery for your MSI gaming notebook...
    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=278687.0

You could also open a ticket with MSI and ask for them to replace it, get a quote from them to compare.

Please let us know what you find, and if it works. :)

    Hey guys,

The battery for my GS43VR was also very swollen, so I took it off and ordered a replacement.

Does anyone know if it is possible to turn it on without a battery (only plugged in the power outlet)?

I was facing intermittent freezes on the machine, and then tried to change some bios configs related to memory speed without success... Then I found the battery was swollen and took it off.

When I turned it on without the battery, it shows the red keyboard lights and even the fans turn on eventually, but nothing shows up on the screen anymore (although I don't think the screen has any issues). It doesn't even enter the bios anymore, just a black screen.

I did try putting the swollen battery back and it stays with the same problem described above...

One thing I did was update the bios according to https://www.msi.com/Laptop/support/GS43VR-6RE-Phantom-Pro and do the Intel security fix, but the notebook did work after these updates at least a few times, although now I do recall something asking for a battery reset which I didn't do at the time...

I also tried pressing the battery reset role now, but all it does is turn off the PC.

Is there any way to reset the BIOS to the factory settings without accessing it, i.e. some magical combination of buttons or internal thing?

    Thanks a lot!

only 1 way to find out... i cant imagine why it wouldnt still work unless MSI has some sort of built in safety switch that disables using only the power adapter to run the laptop?

I've had laptops in the past work fine without a battery only plugged into the power pack...

Thanks a lot! It turned out that it wasn’t turning on even with the replaced battery. It was a problem with the memory, which was likely not well connected. I took it out and put it in again and it worked...

    Hey all!

I'm looking at picking up this laptop as a portable workstation (media creation) as well as a lot of text document editing. Plus gaming of course.

What known issues should I be aware of?

Also what price should be paid for this now?

How are temps with undercoating CPU and GPU?

Is this compatible with most eGPU thunderbolt 3 docks?

Would greatly appreciate the answers to these questions.

    Much thanks in advance.

Known issues: It's gets how, it's noisy, and the battery is terrible. But I've had one since it came out (a gs40) with zero issues.
what price? You can get them on ebay for around $1k
Egpu: Yes, as far as the gs40 goes (which is an identical mobo to the gs43, with a 6700hq/970m). I'm running mine off a razer core and a 1080ti, zero issues.

not sure if anyone still monitors this thread but..
    I own a gs40, w/ intel 6700hq/970m.
    I just swapped in a mobo from a gs 43, with a 770hq/1060 6gb

Everythign went great, windows didn't even ask to reactivate BUT, the mobo I got is damaged-- the physical connector on the mobo from the front LEDs is missing the hinged black clamp down.
Any idea where I can get nitty parts like that? Alternatively, I can try and scavange a connector from the front LED bar... anyone have a dead GS40/43 they'd be willing to part out?

Normally, parts are available from MSI directly but they would actually ask you to send in your system for repair. So you most likely can be only obtain parts from other users or eBay.

I bought one of these back in Feb 2017 from Xotic. Woke up this morning, laptop not plugged over night, to the case wobbling like it was high centered on something. It was...the battery.

Its heart had grown 2 sizes that day. Called MSI, they want me to ship the thing in, with the battery in this state! Seems crazy to me. Trying to get them to ship me a battery. IMG_20181112_191804.jpg

edit: bought it from Xotic, going to call them and see if it they can help

have Xotic PC ship you a new battery.
And have Xotic PC tell MSI that it is ILLEGAL in the USA to ship a battery in this state. It's literally a FEDERAL OFFENSE.
That battery has to be disposed of properly by a hazardous materials team. Who is doing Xotic support over here these days?
    @Support.1@XOTIC PC @Support.2@XOTIC PC @Support.3@XOTIC PC @Support.4@XOTIC PC ?

Demand that they send you a new battery. And contact someone (Not from MSI) who knows how to pick up and dispose of that battery. That thing can take down an airplane if it goes up....

    Eric,

I have ticket 246799 opened, someone was going to reach out to MSI and see if they can send me a battery. I escalated with MSI and they are still INSISTENT that is safe to ship and that is the only way. Not happening. I am sure XOTIC will take care of me, always have in the past.

    MSI is a chinese company.
They don't care about US laws. Nor do they care about US aircraft blowing up because of their faulty batteries.

BTW this issue can ONLY happen for one of two reasons:

    1) MSI lied to you and didn't replace the battery. I wouldn't hold them past that, because this is the exact same thing that happened when people had the revision 1.0 GTX 1070 MXM crashing cards and wanted 1.2 cards, and MSI simply sent the laptops back with a castrated vbios with boost clocks disabled. (After a LOT of major outcry, they finally started replacing them with 1.2 cards for those who asked in a very stern way).

    2) faulty motherboard or battery connector pins possibly causing an incorrect battery voltage reading.

Definitely don't ship air. UPS recommends defective batteries be sent via UPS Ground only (didn't check FedEx). You're not in AK, HI, PR, Guam etc right?

    Eric,

I would rather work this issue through Xotic if possible. I am comfortable changing the battery myself if we can work it one can be sent to me. I will properly dispose of the the faulty one.

I'll update the rep working with them. Though if it's one of the issues @Falkentyne mentioned and not just the battery, it would need to go in anyway. I'll let them handle it from here though, and you can always DM me.

Well, no resolution here. After Xotic telling me that MSI agreed to cross-ship a new battery to me, and me agreeing and asking for the price, apparently MSI decided they didn't want to do that, and not cover the battery at all. Makes sense that it is consumable and it is over a year since I purchased the laptop, but the battery didn't just die.

So off to ebay I go to buy a battery, ah well.

Wait, did I miss something, some change not posted here?

They owe you the battery, they insist on shipping it, so ask them to send you a "burn bag" for the laptop or the battery, and ship the darned laptop+battery (together or apart) back to them via ground / sea. Make sure to alert the carrier what you are shipping - they likely have hazardous shipping considerations to follow.

You shouldn't need to replace the battery yourself.

Also, I think it a good idea for them to check the charging parts - charger too - to make sure there isn't something else going on as well.

You could buy the battery and end up in the same position after a few months, although it is likely it is only the battery you won't know for sure until it's too late - how much longer is your warranty coverage?

Apparently batteries are consumable and not covered after 1 year. I will likely not purchase another MSI product.

They are actually a Taiwanese company with factories in Taiwan and China.

Battery warranty is 1-year and stated on MSI's warranty page.
    https://us.msi.com/page/warranty
In accordance with original manufacturer's products serial number/barcode, it is warranted for 12 months repair service from its manufacture or purchase date after registering online.

AC adapter is 6-month. These terms are the same as DELL, and others.
The unfortunate part is this issue happened outside of battery warranty while the system is still within warranty, so if the system is damaged from the swollen battery then MSI will need to cover everything else (chassis, keyboard, etc) for free except the battery (customer charged).
You should not send the system in with battery in such condition because it can be a liability so if you really have to send it then it's best to remove the battery and send the system without it. Also, you aren't alone with this kind of issue, see below for Apple customer reviews on swollen battery.

It's the better option to just buy the replacement battery and change it yourself if the system is not damaged at all.
