Sometimes even being careful isn't enough, if you get a leak / run of LM out of the heatplate(s) onto a critical connection / part, it will be working one day, and not the next.

IDK if this is from LM, but it's exactly the kind of symptom report for an LM sourced failure:

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/thr...6-owners-lounge.797128/page-327#post-10450319

Hopefully that's just a power reset away from coming back to life...

It's not worth the potential for failure, LM is only a few degree's better than well applied non-conducting pastes, even for IHS re-pasting.

Stick with the non-conducting pastes unless you have boat loads of cash ;)

Hi everyone! And thanks for the quick replies, I will have them into account.

One thing that I want to share with everyone out there: Unless you need the I7 6700HQ running at 3.5Ghz for the tasks that you do, you can reduce it's top speed by going to power options/ edit enery plan/ edit advanced settings/ cpu power management and then there you can set the maximum state of the CPU to 98%. This will disable turbo boost, and fix a top speed of 2.5/ 2.6Ghz.
Playing BF1 I haven't experienced any CPU bottleneck (game adjusted to 60fps) and my max temp with this changes is about 65 degrees celsius while playing a conquest of 64 players.

    Enjoy!

I repasted the cpu with liquid metal and the temp never go above 70C while gaming. It will be worth it. ;)
just be careful, I used non-conductive thermal paste around the die so the liquid metal won't leak.

Quick Update, My 001 model is palmost perfect now...swapped the god awful display for a SDC5344 Panel i Bought new for 60 bucks, Swapped the 1tb Hd for a 1TB SSD from my GS60, Swapped the 128Gb SSD for a 480GB NVME BPX unit i got on sale on Amazon...Clean Install And voila.....Now if i can get 5 hours of battery out of it...that'd be close to perfection. Changing the SSD was more work than swapping the lcd panel...but for space and speed its well worth it. and Icing on the cake was the 107 dollar BB gift card i got cause they lowered the price of the laptop while it was on my return window....Overall it worked out in the end. Went from blaming myself for the stupid purchase in BB to not settling and doing something about it. Money wise it was 1550 + 60 + 220 minus the 107 i got back...overall im happy as i did the best i could under my circumstances..Live abroad...but have a house in the US i go to often.

Hi all, new to the forum, have the gs63vr since oct 2016 and love the laptop!!!!.

Yesterday came my samsung oled tv and i connect the laptop to it (hdmi) and work but only with the dgpu, which is nice for gaming but when i want to watch netflix would be nice to use the igpu (to avoid the extra heat). is there a way to do that?.

    Thanks in advance

    Hello,
Since all of the display outputs are wired directly to the dGPU, I'd say it's impossible to use iGPU via HDMI/DP (I don't know about that USB-C/Thunderbolt port though, maybe there's a way).

Yeah this is a thing that brother me a lot that both dp and hdmi are through dgpu.
But good news, thunderbolt 3 port is through igpu, you can buy a dongle and use this port to output netflix~

That´s a shame, but it´s not that the dgpu get´s super hot anyway.

Sweat!!!!!!, so i can use hdmi/dp for gaming and thunderbolt 3 (with dongle) to netflix, youtube, etc.

    Question,

Can i connect hdmi/dp to the tv set (for gaming), and at the same time connect thunderbolt to the same tv set and switch between the inputs to watch them?.

    Hey!

I just got the GS6VR-7F with Kaby and so far I like it quite a lot. I haven't done anything fancy to it except getting rid of all the bloatware and updating drivers. I then undervolted with XTU to -0.165v. However, while playing overwatch the 1060 get's into the 85 degrees territory very quickly. Is anyone here undervolting the GPU and if so: how?

Also doing a quick check with Crystaldisk Info, the 256GB SSD is at 59 degrees - basically doing nothing, while the 2TB HDD is hat 42 in idle. This somehow troubles me.

yes use msi afterburner to undervolt gpu.
Heat is usually higher on m.2 ssd but that's completely fine temp.

I don't think it's a router issue since all my other devices can connect to the 5g network. How do I troubleshoot? Thank you.

i saw several review on the youtube and they say GS63VR skylake (1060) are very hot under load(90+degree), how about the new version GS63VR kabylake ? and how the trinity cooler boost work, i saw on the software MSi we can control the fan to the max speed ? if i want to playing some heavy gaming in a long term duration(about 2-3 hours) and i set the fan to maximum speed in the first place, how the temperature will be ? or it will be the same temperature that i saw on the youtube ? i think the right way just asking the real users like you guys here.

sorry in the first place i m new to the MSi product, i m looking for the new lightweight rig, thanks in advance for replying.

I'm still using the stock paste and both my cpu and gpu are usually between 68-72 after hours of gaming. It may be just luck of the draw, but at these temps I don't plan on repasting.

I haven't seen anything much higher than 80C on mine during normal use, usually lower. I play Borderlands 2 and run pretty heavy realtime audiovisual performance systems developed in Max/MSP.

the stock paste is not that good. But I still believe you won't hit 90 degree
also yes you can manually control the fan to max.

I tweaked out my GPU and CPU fans using MSI's Silent Option app (equal to the fan settings in Dragon Center). Look for my posts earlier in this thread.

I don't use the cooler boost setting which I think auto maxes the fans. I'm using the advanced setting in the MSI dragon center which allows you to set the fan speed based on the temperature. The only change I made from the default was to set the first setting at 0% so the fan isn't always running. My light use browsing temps are usually around 40c or less. The most graphically intense game I play is battlefield and most cpu intense planetside 2.

Just reporting my findings regarding the fact that my laptop couldn't detect my 11ac wifi router. Had to uninstall/delete the driver which I assume came from the packages that I installed from the MSI website and just let windows use its own driver, now the wifi can properly detect 5ghz unlike before. My wireless connection seems to be better too. I wonder what caused the problem to begin with.

Just received my GS63VR 7RF last night. GPU and CPU fans are not working. Tech support only open M-F.

    Any thoughts? Thanks

Edit: Just FYI happens even when temps go above 65 celsius.

If im not gaming or watching videos its sits around 64C. Any gaming or anything it will spike to 85+C in no time.

I thought i had the quitest GS of all time for a little bit then realized why it was so quiet.

Okay, I just pulled the trigger and ordered the last 2017 GS63VR (-229) Amazon had in stock. Anyone have any experience with the quality of the 1080p display on this, or better yet, know the actual manufacturer and model of panel? I've seen it referenced as both IPS and (more suspiciously) "IPS-level." Call me cynical, but "IPS-level" just reeks of deceptive marketing-speak, like a cheap frozen pizza with "mozzarella-style topping," etc.

I previously tried last year's GS73VR, but I'm hoping the GS63VR is a little better balance of portability vs. performance. The GS63VR's "IPS-level" 1080p display was pretty good, but it also had 120Hz refresh going for it.

    Thanks!

in addition to @Phoenix 's post above, you can also try to use revo uninstaller to remove your current version of SCM and then reinstall a fresh copy from msi website

    ************** JIT Debugging **************
To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this
application or computer (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging
    enabled.

    For example:

    <configuration>
        <system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />
    </configuration>

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer
rather than be handled by this dialog box.

Will be awesome if someone can find some hints.

Has it come to light as to which GS63VR models have LG vs. Samsung panels?

There are a few variants available at local stores, and I thought I would check as my eyes are somewhat sensitive to PWM.

    Specifically, the available models are:
    6RF-008CA
6RF-010CA (4k, preferably not as it would hurt battery life)
    6RF-034 Pro
    6RF-041 Pro
    7RF-236CA

I uninstalled the MSI scm a long time ago. Is there a specific reason you use it? Windows 10 has all the options to enable/disable bluetooth, wifi ect. right on the taskbar.
