Y50 is the only laptop I'm aware of that is 48Hz limited. My 3k screen is 60fps for many games.

This is useless, only ultra quality textures need something more than 3 gb
and in two-three years you will not be able to run games on ultra, as laptop is not that powerful. So you dont actually need 6 gb, only if you buy 3k, where resolution is bigger

Sorry about hijacking your reply, but since you have the 3k version, how do you find the response time? Is ghosting/motion blur an issue for you?

No. The response time is a little slower than TN but It's noticeably better than other IPS screens I've used on laptops in the past. I don't play a lot of fps, but the ones I do play seem fine to me. I also use a wireless mouse and I've had to switch to wired mouse in the past because of the noticeable delay in some games. I have not had that experience at all with this laptop. As for ghosting and motion blur, I haven't noticed anything of the sort. I've only heard FHD owners complain about ghosting, and it's only a few of them. But again, I don't play fps all that much. If you have any physical tests you want me to try, I can do that.

Even if you had 3k, you aren't running many of today's games on ultra. I've only been able to get 60fps on 2-3 year old games. Newer games I have to turn the detail down slightly. Games 3 years from now will likely have to be played at FHD or else on medium settings.

    Thanks!

As I mentioned I returned my FHD gs60. The motion blur was very noticeable even outside of games.

A simple test I used was to open a dark window (either spotify or steam), and simply move the window in circular motions while observing the light parts (images etc) inside the window. That's a pretty good test for detecting trailing and motion blur.

I just PMed you with a link to a couple videos(I don't have the bandwidth to host for everybody). One is a 72fps video with a portion being slow motion. The other video is straight up 120fps. Please let everyone know what you think.

Does someone have an idea about how an GS60 would perform in a hot environment (25-30 Celsius) without air conditioning? I'm coming back to Brazil, and I'm thinking about bringing one with me, but the cooling system worries me.

I canceled my order from XoticPC for the 6GB VRAM version.

When I made my order, the sales associate told me that the models were just received and on hand, ready to ship. I made my order on Tuesday. I checked up on my order today and was informed that the laptops wouldn't be coming in until early next week.

I'll be taking my money elsewhere despite the 3-7 day order cancelation process.

Does anyone know where I could pick up an FHD/4k model with 6GB in Canada? I can't seem to find any resellers. Are the 6GB versions perhaps region exclusives?

I World go for one of the bulkier models, Asus g751 or msi gt72, They have superior cooling systems. Not as easy to carry I know.

Possibly bad news about 6 GB VRAM models.

In Gigabyte P34W v3 thread two people posted it got downgraded from 6 GB VRAM to just 3 GB VRAM version of GTX 970M, and the reason is supposed to be that 6 GB VRAM version is hotter. :(

If that's true, also MSI GS60 models with 6 GB VRAM GTX 970M should be hotter than 3 GB VRAM ones.

I was worried about that. I'd really like if we had a review about the model first, and if it's significantly hotter, I might look elsewhere.

It's coming to be summer here in Australia, but I've given my GS60 a go running Far Cry 3 for a while and have no particularly negative things to say about it. It gets audible under load, but it's not that bad. I'm more interested to see how it'll handle our 40 degree days for sure.

    Hi guys,

I'm really close to pull the trigger on the 3k 970m 3GB version. From the previously linked:
    MSI-GS60 2QE 026CZ Ghost Pro 3K | Alzashop.com

As so far this shop seemed to be the best price with EU shipping. I'm a Hungarian living in Finland and I used Hungarian, English and Finnish keyboards so I don't really mind the Czech one :)
This website description says: 15.6 "anti-glare LCD 2880x1620 PLS
I thought all of the 3k screens are glare type. Are there different type of 3k screens or why it's called anti-glare?

Does anyone know any other shop with low prices like Alza and EU (Finland) shipping? I would be more interested in the 256GB SSD (2x128) version if I can find it less than 1800€.

After buying one I will write a share a short a review. My biggest concern now is the light bleeding from the screen. The previously posted pictures are quite troubling. The screen is very important for me and the biggest reason of buying a new laptop. So I hope it wont be disturbing/dissatisfying.

I also wanted to ask does anyone knows any other reviews of the 970m model than these:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7q_TkfCGWf0
    MSI GS60 Ghost Pro 3K review - Nvidia GTX 970M & 870M versions
    MSI GS60 Ghost Pro 3K 2QE Review (Gold w/ GTX970m) | KitGuru

These are all great and very helpful (especially the 2nd one), but I'm wondering why I can only find so few reviews?

I had a chance to briefly check MSI GS60 Ghost Pro in person. While it was a model with just GTX 870M, everything except GPU should be the same as in FHD GTX 970M model (it was an updated version, with pelt on the chassis bottom and newer CPU).

Here is my mini-review (majority should be applicable also to GTX 970M version):

    Chassis

    - it's larger than I expected, but also lighter than expected (it felt really light in hand, like if it was just empty chassis, noticeably lighter than the latest 15" Retina Macbook Pro)
    - chassis was decently built though overall feel not yet on the level of Macbooks / Thinkpads
    - materials surfaces felt cheaper than in those two
    - it's indeed a big fingerprint magnet, that doesn't look good, fingerprints on metal look uglier than fingerprints on glass
    - contrary to what some reviews said, screen didn't feel fragile, it was rigid enough both for normal opening/closing and when trying to twist it
    - really huge bezel, that's what made it large, screen itself is the same size as other 15" notebooks
    - MSI Dragon logo is not that bad, also you rarely see it, so it doesn't really annoy
    - power brick was quite large, but pretty thin and lightweight, shouldn't bother for travelling (was one of my worries)

    Keyboard

    - keypresses felt good
    - no noticeable flex
    - I had some troubles with layout:
    - arrows keys not separated enough from the rest, kept doing mistakes
    - enter key too small
    - probably could get used to it though with more time spent
    - not as good as Thinkpad keyboard, better than Macbook keyboard
    - subjective taste thing but for me font for key labels was really ugly, especially with extra local characters labels stuffed on many keys,
probably the least esthetical part of notebook, much more annoying than that dragon logo, you see keyboard all the time :(

    Trackpad

    - mouse movement was ok, responsive, no noticeable lag
    - not having explicit mouse buttons was annoying, I constantly kept making mistakes about left vs right buttons pressed

    Screen

    - it was 1080p IPS matte version
    - subjectively looked nice, as expected no color change troubles from any viewing angle
    - vibrant colors, bright
    - no obvious troubles, didn't notice any lightbleeding or any ghosting, felt as responsive as my TN panel in Thinkpad

    Disks

    - boot from SSD was very fast
    - right from start you have only about half of 128 GB SSD left after OS + utilities
    - lot of resident apps crap showing up running in taskbar, also Norton kept annoying with pop-ups, so I assume at least some of that space can be reclaimed
    - 7,200 RPM 1 TB HDD also felt quite fast, I think it was empty from the start

    Heat and noise

    - fan was always on, even on idle, though sound of it wasn't very annoying
    - with high load fan got noticeably loud, but as already others said, it's not as annoying as other loud notebooks, I would game with headphones though
    - I could check just GPU loads briefly (with my own 3D stuff, no standard benchmarks)
    - at idle it was 49 C
    - at realistic heavier load (1080p) it was 84 C
    - at ridiculous heavy load (4K supersampling) it maxed at 93 C and reported power related throttling
    - outside chassis temperatures
    - on top (keyboard + palm rest) it got never hot, even under ridiculous loads it was very ok to touch
    - on bottom though started to be hot even with just heavy load, on ridiculous load I couldn't touch it (this holds just for bottom end, bottom front was quite ok, warm but not hot)
    - I think CPU and GPU fans were controlled separately, I was trying to get more CPU load vs more GPU load and I got impression that loudness varied on right vs left side

    Overall impression

    - not without flaws but still pretty decent, didn't feel like premium brand, but also not cheap, something in between (pretty appropriate to its price: that MSI GS60 model was ~1,350 EUR vs ~2,400 EUR for Macbook Pro or Thinkpad W series)
    - uglier than I expected from pictures and videos, but I'll forgive it for its performance and lightness :)
    - contrary to my expectations, even with GTX 870M it wasn't that terrible, so with GTX 970M it should be pretty awesome
    - I do want 3K screen, right next to it was Retina Macbook Pro, 1080p just looks so much more pixelated than 3K (FHD screen is good though, if you are ok with lower res)

Very interesting reading all this conversation. So my questions is as follows; how much life can I get out of one of these laptops if I am a

    a) Heavy gamer,
    b) Moderate Gamer,
    c) Light Gamer. <--- Although, I shouldn't really be buying this then.

Is it possible to some way find out how long these machines might last us through daily usage etc. If I buy this, I'm looking at this laptop to last me at least 4-5 more years. I just want a screaming fast beauty with a great graphics card under 2k CAD.

That is not true at all - every single game i tried sp far (around 20 titles, including d3,wow, bf 3, bf4, sim city, nfs rivals, me3, farcry3) i was able to play in native 3k, all details ultra with 40-70fps, without anny fps shatter, fluid as lava in hell :)

Somethimes you need to play with high perft/sport button, but for most of them comfort without HP is enough

Right, you got 40fps with some titles. My point was you need to turn settings down to get a constant 60fps. Future games will require to turn the settings down even more at 3k.

Yes. but for the GS70 and will do post a mini review once I get it. If it runs hot in a GS60 then it should run hot in a GS70 but we won't know for sure until we start seeing people get them.

Oh. but the GS70 has better cooling due to larger surface area. So you can't really compare both of them.
I would also have gone with the GS70 if it wasn't for the better screen and much cooler design. (cooler as in looks good)

870m ran hot on the GS70 also so we should see similar results to a certain degree. I ordered the 72% gamut matte screen so hopefully that will be better than the stock version.

So rumors of issues with GS60:

    1. The 1080p screen which is a Samsung PLS panel, has bleeding issues and motion blurs.
    2. The 3GB vRAM is not enough for the upcoming years, even now some settings have to be lowered to play demanding games.
    3. The 6GB vRAM version runs considerably hotter than the 3GB vRAM version.

I think it will take more time to clear up these until user reviews come up.
I can't pull the trigger on getting one unless I know for sure what I am getting.

Who do you think has good shipping options to mid-east countries ? I am out of the US for the next month and want to consider shipping this beast (or the p35x-v3) overseas.

Any recommendations from experience are most welcome.

As you have bought ICD to apply it your self. Can you also post the pre and post repaste results on temps?
