Check your version against the latest version on Intel's support page for your edition of Intel HD graphics, just to make sure.

Yes, these numbers are smaller than other GS60 usually get (3dmark firestrike total ~6,500-6,700 points, firestrike physics ~8,400-9,300 points, firestrike graphics ~7,400-7,700 points).

Make sure you don't run is some of power-saving modes (select "sport" mode and "high power" in MSI control utility).

Though not sure if it maybe isn't just some Skylake i7-6700HQ CPU model oddity?

NotebookCheck review of Skylake version of GS60 also got similar total Firestrike score to yours (5,982 points):

If I where to update my intel Chipset drivers, should i re-install my GPU drivers over it? I don't see any issues occurring but just wanna make sure.

Edit: Yeah don't think its a issue, scored 6,614 on Firestrike
    GPU Score: 7,539
    Physics score: 9,586

    No, you don't have to.
Updating GPU driver alone is sufficient.

    Hello all,

I recently got my laptop back after sending it to MSI for a RMA. My GS60 2QE was working fine until today.

The battery icon showed full charge so I unplugged my laptop and proceeded to watch my show. Few mins passes by and then the screen goes black, my laptop made three beeping noise and automatically shut off. I pushed the power button but wouldn't turn on, plugged in the charger and pushed the power button, on it goes. On start up the battery icon showed full charge, I unplugged the charger and continued to watch my show. Few mins and my screen goes black again, but this time my laptop didn't make the three beeps, instead it made some weird techy noise that i can't describe, then it shut off. Same issue occurs, unplugged laptop wont start, plugged laptop back on its foot. This time my battery icon showed 0% "calculating" but ended up not calculating. I restarted my laptop few more times with my charger plugged in, and it constantly displayed battery at 0% "calculating". I unplugged the charger and restarted my laptop, this time shows 100%. I continued to watch my show to see how long my laptop will last with it being unplugged. It lasted for about 15mins before screen went black, three beeps and turns off. My battery icon showed 100% during that 15mins, remaining hour went up and down between 2hr-1hr45min. Now I have it back on charger and it is still showing 0% "calculating".

My question: Would the MSI battery calibration help solve this issue? or is it something that I would have to ask for a RMA again?

sorry for my post to be lengthy, wanted to make sure i didn't leave out any info. As always thanks for your help.

edit: I tried letting my laptop charge to see if it will hold up charge. The charging indicator started to flash red. battery icon shows 0% and says (not charging). unplugged laptop then automatically shuts down. I turned it back on and now it says 100% battery, but the indicator is still flashing red light with and without charger.

Try resetting the battery -- either holding down the power button with it plugged in or unplugged or some sort of battery reset switch... There might be a pinhole on the right side try that too... Could be due to an electrostatic charge (needs an ec reset)?

Thank you for the quick reply. I tried the ec reset by turning off my laptop by holding down the power button, unplugged charger, and had my battery reset by pushing the pinhole button on the right side.

The red flashing battery indicator went away and is blue at the moment. Though I am still having issues with my laptop showing the incorrect percentage of the battery. Whenever I start my laptop with the charger plugged in, the battery is at and stays at 0% "calculating" remaining hour. When I start my laptop with the charger unplugged, the battery shows it's at 100% (hours remaining can go up and down between 2hr30mins~1hr15mins). Unfortunately the Laptop keeps shutting off automatically about 10-15mins after I unplug my charger, and it wont turn back on unless I plug the charger back in.

I'm guessing that my battery is not holding up charge? if not I have no idea what is wrong with it. I still have three to four more month of warranty so I can have MSI fix it, but this being my second time to have them RMA. I'm a bit frustrated and afraid that it is going to cause more issues down the road after warranty ends... I've only had this laptop for almost a year and haven't even done any intensive gaming on it. Very disappointed at MSI laptop as of now.

A post from fredz got me thinking... So newest GS60 (skylake) laptops have support for NVMe SSDs BUT they aren't installed in any pre-builds??
    I don't know why, but I was sure that pre-installed drives are NVMe M.2 SSDs not basic M.2 SSDs... Maybe this information " 1 x 2.5" HDD + 1 x NVMe M.2 SSD by PCIe Gen3 X4 / SATA-SSD Combo " on msi page(s) is kinda misleading...

    I always love a friendly +rep (hint)

You have only a year of warranty? Shouldn't it be 3 years? And one year of accidental damage coverage?

Where did you buy the computer from?

Hey guys, is anyone else experiencing that the keyboard needs to be pressed hard to register a key? Frequently when playing games I notice that w a s d and shift don't always register. After testing the other buttons it is the same, there's a gap between having the button depressed and registering the keystroke. When running in-game for example holding w depressed the character frequently stops as a result of this. Is it just my unit or is this common?

Does anyone know if there is a smaller, lighter power compatible with the gs60 053?

The brick the laptop shipped with is very heavy compared to my other 330W brick that came with my Razer Blade Pro...

    Gotcha.

I bought it from XoticPC. Maybe the one year warranty was referring to the accidental damage.

Yes I held down the power button, unplugged charger, and had my battery reset by pushing the pinhole button on the right side.

I would contact Xotic PC first and ask them if you did anything wrong and see if they have any suggestions.

    Then contact MSI
According to the GT80 forum (yep I'm getting a Titan :D) you can request to talk to a MSI engineer.
If you RMA, you should do it through Xoticpc

I have had a great experience with xoticpc so far. You can start a private conversation with an xotic PC rep or the MSI rep On the forums.

Do any of you guys have a protective sleeve for your Ghost Pro? If so, which one?

That would be great if I can talk to both XoticPC and MSI rep. Last time I had an issue with this laptop, I emailed XoticPC to ask how I should proceed to get my laptop fixed. They said that North America MSI headquarters is only an hour away from where I live so I should contact MSI and sent it there for a quicker fix. After getting my laptop back from MSI, I tried calling MSI to ask what the issue was. Unfortunately they didn't call me back to answer my question, and is still a mystery to what actually happened to my laptop. If you can point me to the right direction so I can talk to both reps it would be great. Thanks for the help.

Esulin, from your post it sounds like you may have installed linux on your MSI ghost pro. I have an MSI GS60 ghost pro 4k-053 and haven't been able to get Ubuntu to install properly on it, it either hangs at the login screen or goes to a black screen at boot. I have installed the nvidia drivers using `ubuntu-drivers autoinstall` from a recovery shell. If you have any ideas on this help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

    Hello guys,

I'm going to buy either a GS60 or GE62 in the next couple of weeks.
I heard many complaining about the space bar issue on the GE62, so i was wondering if the same issue exists on the GS60.

<sigh> #2 going back for back light bleed. I hope one of the other two they have are better.

I suspect they will not be better though. The two laptop I've tried are 47 numbers apart (serial numbers). They both have really bad bleed in the lower-left corner and along the top from the middle of the screen to about 1.5" from the upper-left corner. The first had a couple of other spots. I fired this one up in the store, but the store is so damn bright, it's almost impossible to see if there is bleed. I'm gonna have to use my coat like a tent to check them when I go back. ;D

Got a 3rd laptop. It's still got backlight bleed, but it's not nearly as bad as the other two. Just a bit along the top of the screen.

BTW, I talked to MSI tech support two days ago. They said that some backlight bleed is normal for that type of display, but it should be fairly uniform around the entire monitor. This one is, the prior two were not at all.

Now I'm trying to get Win 7 installed and it's a PITA.

Has anybody successfully installed Windows 7 on this laptop? I've gotten to the point where I can start the install, but I cannot find a working NVMe driver for Windows 7. Can anybody point me to the correct driver, or a guide on how to get the NVMe drive recognized?

Coil whine is caused by weak PWM, it has to be replaced to be rid of.
It won't cause other issues in the mean time so it is safe to use.
You can also try reducing GPU frequency to see if the noise can be silenced or not.

Can anyone please try this :) ?
1)if you have DDR-4 RAM make a RAMdisk and show us numbers for read and write speeds (I'm interested in comparing those to NVMe ssds)
2)find fastest SD card you have (UHS-III anyone :D ?) and run Crystal Disk Mark or something similar so we will know speeds for SD card reader

    Thanks

I'm really regretting not buying this laptop from XoticPC or GenTechPC. I'm not having any luck installing Windows 7 on this thing. I cannot get the Win7 install to recognize the NVME SSD.

I think that first you have to manage the partition in windows (if you still have windows installed go to search->create and format disk partitions. If not first install windows somewhere). There you should find "unlocated" disk - your NVME SSD. Make it a partition. Then try to install windows again as you want. Don't forget to format disk with windows (otherwise you are creating dual boot :) ) . I think you will see the drive then ;) .

PS. Reading that you are trying to instal windows 7 made me thing that it might be unsupported drivers or maybe hardware/software issue with msi-windows-SSD. I'm just guessing.

I DON'T have that problem nor did I solve it that way.. I'm just thinking that could solve your problem. Good luck!

So you're saying I should try installing Windows 7 on the HDD, then get the SSD working and recognized in Win7. The re-install to the SSD? That might work. Maybe.

You may need to modify your Windows 7 setup to include the NVME hotfix if you want to install Win 7 onto it. Natively, it (Win 7) doesn't support/recognize NVME drives without that patch.

Did you mean VRM? It's not really weakness so much as a certain set of values causing resonance.

I am not getting anywhere with installing Windows 7. I've tried two times with the hotfix included in the install media, and both times bluescreened with an nvmexxx.dll error. There are several guides on the net (though none are specific for this particular laptop), but so far I haven't found one that works.

    Has anybody?

Hello Guys... I Just received My GS60 Ghost Pro-002 yesterday. And it looked so Nice! I installed HWmonitor to check my overall temps but to my surprise, HWmonitor is showing i5 CPU instead of i7 CPU. But when I opened the device manager, it shows i7-6700HQ as the CPU. Does this happen to anyone?

Has anyone done the update to windows 10 for the 970m 6gb model? I see that there are drivers but I'm curious as to the performance vs 8.1

Performance should be similar but you are set up for future titles.

Performance is just about identical, although DirectX 12 is Win 10 exclusive.

The HWMonitor that I am using is the latest version 1.28 from CPUID. What I found was that the Free version of HWmonitor PRO stated the correct CPU version (i7-6700HQ) lol.jpg
