So I got my shiny new msi gs60 FullHD gtx 970m last week. This thing is a beauty...runs pretty cool, great build quality. Unfortuately, the screen was a huge deal breaker for me, so it's with a sad face I'm returning it.
I'm guessing I got the Samsung PLS monitor, and for anything other than gaming, it looks amazing. First time I logged into Planetside 2, I knew something was wrong. The ghosting was absolutely massive, made me dizzy. Huge trails off anything light on dark background. Tried to get used to it, but after a week trying different games, I'm returning it.
I had a co-worker look at it as well. I thought I was overly critical. Did a comparision with my cheap office monitor, HP ZR2440w 6ms IPS. It was miles better, ghosting was there but not the long trails like on the gs60.
Not sure if I was just unlucky, or if there's a LG IPS monitor that's better. I find it a bit strange that no one else has commented on this...

GS60 or GS70 owners with 970m, how is the noise?
-
Model number is GS60 2QE-027NE. -
When is the 064 model gonna come out..... pffff It has been a long wait.
1080p with 6GB vRAM just in case you wonder.... -
Every time I ask a reseller/distributor/whatever, they ignore my questions on those models (064 and the possibility of a 3K screen with 6GB VRAM).
EDIT: apparently, HIDevoluton has it in stock already but the website doesn't exactly specify that.

If you guys have a chance please visit the Networking and Wireless forum and post any experience you're having with the Killer N1525 wireless card in the N1525 thread.
I don't see any difference in downloading with the N1525 over the Intel Ac-7260NGW but transferring files across the home networks the N1525 is about 10 to 15 MB/s faster measured with TeraCopy -

Any sign of the 064 model in europe ??
I would have pulled the trigger already, but with all these lazy console ports coming out, i'm too scared 3gb vram wońt be enough in a near future.
Hurry up MSI before I decide to buy a P35X v3 -

guys what sort of score are you getting in 3dmark11 with the gtx 970m?
-
@Dieudonne : same thing here. I live in Europe and I'm still waiting for the 6gb. I might by the P35 if it doesn't come out in the short term. -
do it - i've been refering to the noise part at least couple times.

I was wondering if anyone owning the 3k version could say a few words about motion blur/ghosting effects on the display.
I realize it probably won't be as good as a TN panel, but after having returned my previous gs60 1080p laptop due to massive motion blur, I'm hoping the Panasonic VVX16T029D00 display might be better.
A simple test would be to move a dark window (eg. spotify or steam) against a lighter background in a circular motion and observe if there are any trails following the window. Thanks! -

To know if your Killer N1525 Wireless-AC card is installed correctly open Device Manager and view the Bluetooth devices and the Network Adapters.
For Bluetooth you should see Qualcomm Atheros QCA61x4 Bluetooth 4.0
For Network Adapters it should be Killer Wireless -n/a/ac 1525 Wireless Network Adapter
If you haven't already click on each of them and uncheck the "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.
If you are running the Windows 10 Technical Preview you may need to run the Bluetooth driver in Windows 8 compatibilty mode to get it to display correctly as QCA61x4.If not run in Windows 8 compatibility mode it may show up as AR3012 which is not the correct BT adapter
Drivers for the N1525 can be found at this link.

Screen itself definatelly beats the s**t out of my desktop TN 24" HP pivot screen.
I will do the test you asked for and let you know tomorrow -
Anybody having light bleed issues on the FHD screen? On very dark scenes there's yellow along the bottom edge and also a yellow spot in the top right corner.
I'm not really impressed with the black levels of the screen compared to the GT70 I used to have, but otherwise the colors are very good -

MSI might be my next choice wow

Still waiting for 3k, 6gb gtx 970m version. You know what you need to do MSI, if you want my money. Ridiculous that there isn't already an option for that.

P35X v3 is a little more boring outside but inside it's better. A little thicker (really small difference) and 980m 8GB which is a huge difference.
Did you do more research ? -
Has anyone seen a good technical article comparing the Ghost Pro 970m models with
Gigabyte's coming equivalent ?
XOTIC PC | GIGABYTE P35Xv3-CF4 - 15.6" Gaming Laptop - GTX 980M
I'm really torn ... Gigabyte's laptop may look a bit "boring" but inside it's future proof and a complete animal. Yes a tiny bit thicker but has 980m[8GB] (!)
Thoughts ? -

What exactly are you looking for? You do not need a particular comparison to find information. If you find detailed reviews of each model on their own, you should be able to find the strengths and weaknesses of each machine
At any rate, both are very new so information is very scarce. -

edit: i just received a reply from pro-star.com on this stating that during their tests on my laptop they had attained a temp drop of 1.72 degrees Fahrenheit. that is not even close to 1C. a waste of my money. anyway, guys please answer my questions. thanks.
guys i've posted my laptop's furmark results below. but i'm seriously concerned about the temps it recorded. according to this REVIEW the max gpu temp is 85C WITHOUT IC DIAMOND (furmark burn in - 15 minutes).
BUT I GOT THE IC DIAMOND THERMAL COMPOUND APPLIED (from pro-star.com) YET I'M GETTING THE SAME RESULT (BOTH CPU & GPU with an average room temp of 25-30C).
1) SHOULDN'T I BE GETTING A DROP OF AT LEAST 5C?
2) DO YOU THINK THAT THE PASTE WASN'T APPLIED PROPERLY?
3) WHAT TEMPS (CPU & GPU) SHOULD I ACTUALLY GET WHEN THE THERMAL PASTE (ic diamond) IS APPLIED PROPERLY IN THE GS60 (044 gtx970m 3gb variant)?
please reply.
thanks.

FURMARK RESULTS (1080p)
CPU MAX (CPU BURN IN - 5 minutes): 85, 85, 88, 85C
GPU MAX (GPU BURN IN - 6 minutes): 85C stable.

For some reason in the german speaking countries there is a price difference between the Gs70 and the GS60 of 300.
may anyone link me an european shop which sells the GS60 2QE for under 1600?
I would still prefer the GS60 over the GS70, but in Austria i would pay for the GS70 1550 and for the GS60 1899. -

So for the MSI GS60 2PE there was a fan tweak to lower the fan speeds at idle. Does such a mod exist for the 2QE yet? It's probably the only complaint of this laptop that I have.
-
-
With an ambient temp of 25-30c I don't think 85c is critical. Ambient temps where I live is around 20-22c which would bring temps down considerably.

THEY REPLIED,"sorry, my bad. i made a wrong formula for temperature calculation. it is 2.064 degree of celsius lower, which is about 3.7152 degree of fahrenheit".
i'm not getting the 2.064C reduction that they got in their tests.
guys i really need some help. please answer my questions.
thank you so much.
edit: i just found out that the review i was referring to was actually posted by Xentar712 -
Usually repasting is done when there is a bad sloppy work from factory, and it is more on a "to be sure" rather than an absolute temperature drop. Not all laptops behave the same or have the same temps because CPU/GPU quality differs and so does the paste job.
I don't think there is anything to worry about regarding your temps. If you feel the job was not done properly, you can repaste it yourself. But considering you seem to be getting full performance at such temps, I'd say you are alright.varunaravind likes this. -
What this guy said ^^^
Furmark acted weird for me, so I wouldn't use that as a comparison. The key for furmark is if your frequency was as high or higher than what I got. It's going to get 85 no matter what. That was the throttle point for me.varunaravind likes this. -

Is there any way to tweak the fan speeds with the new 2QE? There's a guide for the 2PE but do you suppose it works on the new model?

Called PowerNotebooks today- they said that MSI's shipment from China is slated to come in today and that they should have them in stock early next week. But it all sounded very iffy.
