ARG! I wanted to bring some dirt 3 numbers to the table but games for windows live REFUSES to connect, no matter if I re-install it, disable firewalls (local and on the router), put my system in the DMZ, update it, it just wont.

I've tried signing in on the web, and it the user name and password work just fine, I even tried changing them.

I am not running through the tutorial every time I want to run a benchmark, that's ridiculous.

These Vbioses (Stock, 1.05V, 1.075V, 1.1V) are provided as is and were modified by SVL7, if you use them, they are done so at your own risk, neither of us are liable for any damages caused.

Thanks for the info guys. But at no point can I seem to actually select the 7970M even on MSi Afterburner. Any help on actually switch from onboard graphic card to the dedicated one would be great. Plus any ideas about when the 7970M hotfix will be released. Cheers!

Guys I also have this laptop and love it! I could not find game which wouldn't run absolutely smoothly near max details. But wonder how could I upgrade with 1TB HDD +SSD without using 2nd HDD caddy?

Err the machine has two ports for hdds and an optical bay. The msata version has 2 msata 1 hdd and 1 optical.

Msi afterburner can only access the 7970m, it cant reach the integrated.

    I could need some help.
Does any of the GX60 owners would agree to borrow me their laptop serial number for a small fee? The thing is that I want to place HD7970M in my GT683 and I want to order GX60 gpu heatsink. In the warranty company, from where I order the laptop they need a laptop serial number so I can order it. This is not a scam or anything else similar in that matter. If anyone could help me then contact me via email [email protected]
    Thanks in advance.

    ya.... good luck with that...

you might have to get it form a 3rd party, like ebay or something. ORRRRR you can do http://forum.notebookreview.com/msi/659226-7970m-heatsink-modification.html

that's the thread with the DIY heatsink mod. It's for GT60, not sure if it applies to your GT683 though..

Actually it is for 16F2 which is the barebone version of the gt683. Following that thread me and other fellows have successfully installed the card.

Hey guys, another fresh GX60 owner here.

I have to say I am pleased with GX60, but correct me if I'm wrong - I think GX60 also suffers from the damn Enduro 7970m underutilization issue.

In many games like Crysis 2, DE: Human Revolution, Black Ops ect. the MSI Afterburner shows like from 40-75% GPU utilization, it never reaches 100% no matter what graphic settings in-game.

Originally I installed the 12.9 beta Catalyst from AMD site and noticed this, then I checked out MSi's site and there are fresh VGA drivers from 12th October to download, so I poped in these (after doing full uninstall of previous AMD's 12.9 beta) and it's still the same... the only improvement over AMD drivers is that "configure switchable graphics settings" button now works and does not cause the CCC to crash and exit.

Am I doing something wrong? or must I wait for the Enduro hotfix (witch AMD says will be released in comeing days... since like sempember...)

    Hey Meaker,

Thanks again for your help so far. As I previously mentioned I am probably messing up, but find below two screen-shots where the Afterburner still keeps on the HD 7660G. Furthermore, after running tests on MSI Kombustor and the results were the ones expected for the 7660. Do I need to install something else, or change stuff in the BIOS, if so a tip on that would be great.

Is there an option in your BIOS to use only the integrated 7660G or both the 7670M+7660G?

This is more likely the A10-4600 bottleknecking the 7970. The A10 just does not seem to have the guts to power what is essentially a 7870 desktop gpu.

I doubt it. If CPU bottlenecking was the case, FPS would be lower, but utilization should still be high.

Sounds like the Enduro underutilization issue to me.

That is what came to my mind at first, but this low utilization is present no matter how many things to process the CPU would have in any given game.

Be it CPU demanding game or not, low or high settings - GPU is still used in 40-75% (with ~50% utilization in most cases). So it can't be the A10, my suspicion falls at the damn Enduro.

Meaker can you refer to this? In your opinion - Is it the A-10 or Enduro problem?

That does seem more of an enduro issue if cpu use makes little difference to the gpu. Bit of a pain in an all AMD laptop that is meant to not suffer Enduro issues.. ?

A notebook tailored entirely by AMD in co-operation with MSi and damn thing still has Enduro problems :D sad and funny at the same time.

So what is this CPU bottlenecking Enduro bull? I’ve heard everywhere A10-4600M is not good for 7970M and all I can see it is a very tough gaming laptop. In Battlefield 3 I can’t find more extras to turn higher ;). Today I’m carrying out my old desktop into the outside trash container, so if you need something tell me until Monday morning!

More and more hints toward Enduro as the culprit - for example I ran Black Ops - a game notorious for it's crappy programming and demand for a powerful CPU, here are the results in the screenies and notice, that spite having only 50-65% GPU utilization no matter what place and ammount of action on the map - game is very playable on highest possible settings. This rules out the A-10 CPU to be the culprit, because durning gameplay there is no hiccup witch usually happens due to CPU being unable to keep up with the GPU.

The underutilization IS still an obvious issue tho' and AMD is obligated to fix this, because such flaw from big company as AMD is just unbelievable.

Sort of, but the 7970M does power down completely when not in use, the power light indicates if it is (white = integrated, orange = dedicated on).

I love mine personally but i think new drivers etc are needed. You also have to remember that ati still hasn't even officially released their 12.9 drivers... yet!

Thanks for this little tip, quite useful to know

Ahhh that would exlain why you could reach such high numbers, i feel the laptop is a bit new for a new bios curretly, i'll probably only try it i've exhausted driver upgrades etc making a performance increase.

Annoying though i cant get msi afterburner to boot with the saved overclock settings as it appears that it doesn't always detect th default clocks etc correctly upon boot. Again i think this is a driver issue

The a10 isn't great for encoding, but they state the gaming performance isgood and at the end of the day its a gaming laptop. For the £900 price tag you cant argue too much

The A10-4600M was never built to compete with the i5/i7 chip line-up. AMD was busy trying to push power management and other various additions that make mobile processors, well...mobile. They need to hurry, get that faster fetch and second decoder into the design to keep the pipelines fed so we can have a faster chip, both desktop and mobile. I want one of these laptops but AMD is AGAIN switching to a new uPGA (FS2) with the Steamroller chips, which will feature these refinements which I think will push it into the i5 territory (probably lower end). I'm still customizing mine from XoticPC and if the price is right (as I'll be getting a 7970M), I'll buy.

If I hadn't invested in upgrading my laptop most probably I would have bought one of these gx60. It's got the right price and for the type of consumer that I am it fits perfectly. I do not play much 3dmark , but mostly games and from the looks of it the cpu does not bottleneck THAT much.

This driver is the icing on cake! However I'll wait for Official beta from AMD site, because too much driver install/uninstall might would hurt the system.

AMD is demonstrating that GCN still has juice to be squeezed, which is great news because GCN is continually looking to be a very strong architecture. Hopefully AMD won't lose sight of the other important tasks it has at hand, such as fixing Enduro. Better performance doesn't mean squat if you can't get it running properly in the first place.

    Broken link buddy.

But awesome news - very excited about these. Roll on home time!

Guru3D has said the following: "At the request of AMD the driver has been taken offline. They discovered some bugs and a new build is due to be released later today. Please keep checking this post, once we have the new build we'll update the file-mirror and thus the download."

Gibbo @ overclockers ha said.. "Hi there

The biggest improvement within these drivers is for 7970M on AMD Enduro platform, upto 40% performance increase in games."

    Here's hoping this is correct.

His statement is backed up by Rage3D which states"This driver, which will be posted at 3PM ET, is a heavy rework for GCN architecture cards, claimed to offer significant performance increases as well as including new mobility card specific Enduro fixes"

Purportedly released at 11pm GMT - which sucks!!

Guru3D took it down, because there were few minor bugs detected in the 12.11 beta posted this morning.

However, new hotfix'ed version of 12.11 beta should be available tonight on Guru3D site!

I suggest you get them, they might be beta, but the bugged ones I'm still using already show better performance for me.

For feedback on new drivers follow this thread: http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=370035

Right guys. Still no luck with my issue mentioned earlier in the forum with the laptop unable to detect the 7970M I guess, I am going to call in Overclockers and ask them to send me a refund for my purchase. 3DMark scores too indicate no presence of a dedicated GPU. Thanks for the help, if by some chance one of you comes up with a miracle solution let me know. Otherwise I will soon be an ex-MSi GX60 owner. Adios!

For those that posted that link to Kitguru, THANKS!!

Seems if you only want this to play games and watch movies it rocks.

So do all the owners of the GX60 agree with Kitguru's review?

**I called GenTech PC and was told by one of their techs that they where told by MSI that the color coded backlit keyboard upgrade only works for the GT version or something like that.

Every application. My 3DMark scores are pathetic too. ( AMD Radeon HD 7660G video card benchmark result - AMD A10-4600M,Micro-Star International Co., Ltd. MS-16FK score: P1308 3DMarks) with just a score of 1308.

And my AMD Vision Engine Control Center seems to not pick the Switchable Graphics option either ( ImageShack® - Online Photo and Video Hosting)

So all in all looks like the the 7970 inside the unit is either not working, or I have encountered a faulty piece.
