Everything seems to be normal in CCC. I have a vsync off and I'm not using any antialiasing. But how can you explain The bottlenecks in the other games? There's been quite a few reviews of the GX 60 that I've seen that have pitted against other laptops with the 7970 in and games that aren't even CPU dependent the other laptop still beats out the GX 60 Due to the ever present bottleneck. Also what about Guild wars two world verse world yes I understand that it makes even desktop CPUs Fall to their knees But some my understanding is that you can run normal game Guild wars two at medium and high settings but the second to you go in to WvW your fps drop to single digitd
-
okay Im slowly settling my issues, dota 2 works better by disabling anti-aliasing.
right now my current issue is I can't enable the webcam to work, and I checked the website of this site, it says the drivers are on windows 8, I tried connecting an external webcam through USB but windows 8 said it can't find drivers for this cam.
any ideas or suggestions regarding these issues? even though they're more windows 8 oriented. -
Thats good, because you never made much sense.
Could your performance improvement be from the use of CAP? Or is there one setting that really affects the performance? Assuming its always set up for 1920x1080 resolution.
For those that have not installed CAP, might need to try that. -
Hi I have a new GX60 and the webcam isn't working. It isn't detected in any of the programs that need it like skype, movie maker, or youcam. Please help me!
-
have you tried "fn + f6"?
-
this worked for me, thanks alot
I guess I need that commands manual closer to me -.- -
Hey everyone,
I have a couple of questions for owners of the GX60.
I am looking for a new laptop and I am still considering between a few options. I am in Poland so prices are a bit different here. Clevo excluded, as they are extremely expensive here so please just work with these options - anything else is not viable, I've done my research
These are in my budget - I need help with how this laptop performs and what do you guys think of the other options. They all have the same other specs, except the CPU + GPU combo.
* Lenovo Y500: i7 3630QM + 650M SLI
* GX60
* GT60: i5-3210M + 675M
Now, I have the same concern as most people after seeing the benchmarks, but I do understand those were done with badly optimized drivers. I am also a fan of AMD so I am leaning towards the GX60 model.
However, for CPU intensive games the laptop is presented by various websites as being restrictive and possibly unplayable. I am not sure what game is which, so I am interested for my daily needs how it will deliver.
What's the performance in these games:
* Dota 2
* Minecraft
* Planetside 2
* World of tanks
* Heroes of Newerth
* Paradox games like : Europa Universalis 3, Crusader Kings 2 etc
* Simulators as - Civ 5, Simcity, Cities XL etc
This is what I would be playing most of the time. I don't have time for anything else. I will probably end up playing only 1 of them for months on end anyways, but I want to know that I am able to switch between them when I get bored.
Does anyone currently play those games and knows what is the performance?
My desktop PC is a Athlon II X 3 + 5750 1GB DDR5 video card - I am used to that sort of performance. Be honest - will the GX60 laptop be somewhere close to that performance - gaming or otherwise, or not?
Also - what do you guys think about the other 2 laptops. I've seen the most extensive benchmarks on another site (not sure if I am allowed to link to it), but I assume you guys already know it. The performance level of the GX60 is better than those two combos, even though by only a little for the 675M. Purely gaming performance, as the other components are mostly identical.
I also have hope that the APU's used on the 4th generation consoles will mean more games will be optimized in the future for this laptop - how far fetched is this hope?
Many thanks! -
What is CAP? I don't remember seeing that
-
Even AMD has conflicting info on CAP, some places its called Crossfire Application Profiles, but its Catalyst Application Profiles, even for single GPU performance. And perhaps it comes to you when you use their automatic driver update, but I dont see any updates to CAP since Dec.
AMD Catalyst Application Profile
Crysis 3 was created with AMD engineers, so it is optimized for Radeon GPUs like this system. Because AMD wants to offload more of the work to the GPU, as opposed to the CPU. AMD consumer GPUs are superior in GPU computing, by far, so it has all of this power that so far is untapped. And future games should be optimized for this as well, especially with PS4 and Xbox 720 using Radeon GPUs.
edit: I meant to delete this and add it to my previous post, to comply with the previous request of reducing posts that I just saw, but I couldnt find a delete option -
Ah thanks tommy.
So amd focused games will run much better on this system with the a10 vs an nvidia machine? (ie. nvidias the way it's meant to be played or what not) -
Try pressing the hot keys for the web cam Fn + F6. This caused the drivers to install for me.
-
Is it possible to upgrade MSI GX 60 CPU to something like i7?
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
No, you can never move CPU vendors in any modern machine (in any form factor).
There are also no faster AMD options. -
Here's really really hoping a faster and chip comes out or is announced to be compatable. I believe the second it does these will fly off the shelves more than they already are.
-
Nvidia cards are optimized for DX, D3D, and Radeons are optimized for OpenGL/CL and GPGPU, although both brands do both. So OpenGL based games run better on AMD video cards. Then there is the way AMD prefers to have games coded, such that more of the light processing and what not is done on the GPU, and not the CPU. So some games, and hopefully most new ones will run better on Radeons. An Intel i7 and a Nvidia card will still be better in some games, and then other games will still be better with an i7 and a Radeon. But a decent AMD cpu/apu and Radeon dGPU should easily play new games. AMD is trying to compete by making decent CPUs and great GPUs, so the GPU has to do more work, which will lessen the emphasis of needing to get the latest and greatest Intel CPU. Although, perhaps 2014 will bring an AMD cpu/apu that isnt really hamstrung when it comes to IPC. As for 2013, the AMD Richland is fully expected to be compatable with today's Trinity, but how much better IPC or frequency we get remains to be seen.
And then Nvidia has there proprietary Physx, which was really just acquired by Nvidia, compared to the open architecture that AMD uses and promotes, so that anyone can compete using the same open standards. -
I think it's cool that amd's apu blow intels hd out of the water. It's refreshing to know that a 500 or 600 laptop with the a10 7660g will be able to play current games at medium/ low And most older games slightly higher. For a gpu built in the CPU, that's impressive

Hello all, just joined up today. Been lurking for a while. I get my GX60 today! I'm very excited about it, bought Hitman Absolution on Steam today through Amazon, can't wait. I bought mine from B&H photo in NYC, they had a Presidents Day sale got it for $1085.00 free UPS sign for too. They are a pretty big and reputable store. Anyone just running the stock MSI drivers woithout upgrading? Because it seems to me that upgrading drivers causes a # of problems. I may just try it out like it is. See if I need to upgrade. Also would make any sense to upgrade to high ram like the Kingston HyperX with cas latancy 9 16 gig kit? Or is 16 gig overkill? And does the lower cas latancy make any difference.
-
I would upgrade the drivers, Im running the current 13.1 WHQL drivers and they work perfectly all my problems have stopped since the update.
I would upgrade to an SSD if you want the most performance increase, in terms of 16gigs it all depends on the types of programs you run and such. -
Meaker seemed to get some nice gains out of running tight RAM timings, his 3Dmark physics score was increasing significantly using the CL8 RAM, but he had to reporgram the SPD of the RAM to get it to run the tighter timings.
-
I have to say I really hate Windoze 8 what a pain in the butt,I have to look up everything. How to close windows, find things and I still can't run programs as an Admin yet its so quirky. Thinking about upgrading the memory to Kinston HyperX 9 cas SSD though I would have to intstall the whole OS on it, I'm not up for it. Its seems very tricky downloading ISO's and stuff thats not exactly easy not to screw up. If I could just update the display driver, I will I don't want to screw everything else up.
-
Just got my gx60 the other day. This things is a beast, but it seems that the game I play the most is its Achilles heel. Guild Wars 2. Even on the "best performance" setting (low everything), I am dipping down to <16 fps every time I move the screen. Is there anything that can be done about this? When I choose the "auto-detect" option it increases most settings to medium or high and it runs in the single digit fps!
I just upgraded to the gx60 from a 2010 mbp. I was boot camping GuildWars 2 and running it on lowest resolution and settings. So it's quite an upgrade to 1080p, but I was really hoping for a better performance. Has anyone found a short term fix while we wait for (hope for) a compatible upgrade?
The a10-4600m uses the FS1r2 socket, are there ANY other processors available for this? Perhaps one that supports overclocking? The gx60's cooling options are incredible, and kind of overkill on this current APU.
Thoughts? -
I really don't find Windows 8 any different from 7, other than some visual change. Everything should be exactly like Win 7, you should get the option to run program as Admin by just right clicking on the program.
And closing a window..........are you sure you're not coming form a MAC user? -
No but I never used 7 coming from XP which I loved and you can not right click to get admin rights in 8. Ask others here...
I had to go to this instruction to get it :
http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/...nger-has/5a610274-f356-43e9-9cb6-46dfedfde12a -
Currently there are no better CPU options for FS1r2 socket, but more and more seems to point out, that next generation of APU will fit into the GX60, so stay tuned for official statement from AMD.
You chose a bad game to throw at GX60 for the first impression, many other games run much better, so don't worry. -
That is very odd....I can right click on any exe. And there is a run as admin function there....
-
Finally getting used to everything, been running some games and loving it so far. Hitman Absolution, Portal 2, Burnout Paradise all run really well. I am having a slight problem when running HDMI to my Sony TV, I can't seem to get high quality stereo sound to my TV, for some reason the PC only outputs 2 channel thats very weak to my TV My TV has the the capability to pass 5.1 DD to my Receiver which I do for Xbox and PS3, but the pc only will pass 2 channel very weak sound? Anyone else have troubles with this? Not digging the Realtec audio.
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Those settings should be in the HDMI audio driver.
-
Finally got my Windows updates squared away so weird, it would not update windows no matter what I did, I called MSI today and the guy was supposed to call me back but never did. In the meantime I downloaded Shank 2 from Origin and it hung up at the end just stuck at a 100% for a long time. So I finally just shut PC down and restarted it then said It had to reconfigure, it did this twice for a long time, was getting worried that maybe it would hang again. Finally it reloaded and Shank 2 was installed. I figured I would try win update just for the hell of it and all of a sudden it worked, After not working since I got it yesterday, no new updates since it was installed so there were a bunch. Full gig of updates. Now its all updated and I have no clue why it would not work. But everythings great, games run well on stock driver, I hate to upgrade driver because everythings working now, but I might get brave soon. I may get some low cas ram and SSD we will see. Right now I'm just enjoying, my old PC would not play anything new or taxing, I had last upgraded in July of 2005 so yeah it was way outdated Athlon 64 3700+ GTX 7800 it still runs some old games really well though.
-
Does anyone know what type of ram is in this system and the cas timing?
-
Launch cpu-z and find out. :f
Tap tap tap -SGS 2 -
Just did my first Windows exp. test Ram got the highest score which surprised me 7.4 harddrive tied for lowest with onboard video at 5.9 which did not surprise me. Maybe I need a solid state more than I need ram? Hmm...
Edit: I ran it again after a disc defrag and shutting off Killer network got 7.5 on ram and now onboard graphics score the same as the discrete 6.9 cpu 6.9 also the only real bottle neck is harddrive!. -
-
At least for the Canadian version; It has Elixir brand memory.
-
The ram gets the highest score for at 7.5 so it must be pretty decent whatever it is. I guess there is no DD Live support. Bummed no 5.1 one in games. My receiver does not handle HDMI well it won't pass 1080P. So if I run HDMI to receiver it won't show full screen on big screen. Plugging in directly TV I get 1080p 60. The audio does not work properly anyway. The SPDIF works for blu ray I get DD and DTS but not in games which bums me out. But everything sounds great anyway, it's just that when I play it hooked up to the big TV I would like DTS or DD but ohh well. Running it through HTR to TV is not an option it down grades res to 1280X720 looks like . I would rather have the great picture. Just like Wii U without its support of DD and DTS codec just being cheap.

Spent some time investigating the A-10 5750m (A-10 4600m's successor).
From what the first official statements say, we can see that the performance boost of the A-10 5750m over the A-10 4600m will be rather insignificant in raw CPU tasks, more noticable in GPU tasks.
Since the improved GPU performance of 5750m is rather unimportant for GX60 owners due to the 7970m onboard, swapping current 4600m to 5750m will yeld not enough CPU improvement for the cost (and will entail the loss of warranty aswell).
Moreover, we still don't know whether or not Richland 5750m will fit into GX60's socket.
You can read about it here:

It would nice if MSI would give us a second effort of Drivers, seems like these are the same ones from launch. I would like drivers tailored to our laptop. With all the ATI improvments over the last 4 or 5 months, what are they doing over there ?
-
Possible over clock options? that might be a the best thing we could hope for
-
That's disappointing.....
-
A 10% improvement is still something. It may be more than that for games if the turbo frequency is improved and can be locked higher.
-
Do anyone knows like an approximate price for the 2. generation cpu?
-
I think arround $200... A Little bit expensive...
Guys, do you know if in march GX60 will have a Price drop (or even a $100 discount coupon). I saw GT60 has a $100 MIR. I want to buy my GX60 in Gentech, but I have seen better prices in other webs.
Any recomendation? -
For and I would say 200 - 250.
Maybe a mini sale if you're 189 if you're lucky -
There are also additional instructions on the new Richland APUs I believe, so some apps may be a lot faster than the 10.7% on PCMark. They are pairing it with facial recognition software, so it may have a lot better video encoding performance than before. Intel kind of cheated by inventing hardware/instructions for video encoding, and getting software makers to code for it, while AMD and Nvidia then had to play catch up. And if youre upgrading RAM at the same time, to utilize the 1866 controller, you might be able to get more than they did with using better lower latency RAM.
-
Hopefully the set after this is compatable, or they make a faster one than the 5750m.
To my understanding is a big performance issue comes from the fact the quadcore CPU only has 2 bulldozer cores....so it's not a true quad in that sense -
I ran the Resident Evil 6 Benchmark on max settings.
GX60 gets an Rank "A" score - fully playable at maximum settings. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
It has 2 bulldozer modules, each made up of 2 integer cores and 1 floating point core. -
Anyone have any idea how to use the webcam? No software for it included, it turns on and off thats about it.
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Windows 8 has it's own built in software and there should be some included by MSI in 7 I think.
-
Thanks I found, boy this is about the lowest quality barebones software and cam I have ever used. My logitech quick 480P looks better.Yeah it looks like .crap.
-
How is everyone doing with the new driver ? Stability issues? anyone not using WHQL driver 13.1? Anyone running Betas? Also anyone else playing Sleeping Dogs? I read the the 13.1 driver might not work with, if thats the case I'm going to finish it first then install driver.
