Sleeping Dogs works just fine on 13.1 WHQL.
I have no issues with this driver.

I updated to 13.1 with no issues. Gained 5 points on graphics score everything else is great!

So I have a quick question for you guys. I'm trying to play Avenger's blu ray on the preinstalled PowerDVD10. Once the movie starts the dialogue is nearly inaudible. I believe this is caused by the surround sound setting being set up for an 8.1 system. I've tried setting it to a stereo system (which would not include the subwoofer
) but that did not eliminate the problem, just made the audio quality decrease. Has anyone encountered this problem and found a fix? It looks like a common problem with blue rays according to google, but the only solution seems to be "buy a better amp an center speaker" which seems ridiculous.
Any help would be much appreciated!
Peace -
Have you tried regular WMP it any other playback program?
-
Do you have any other Blu Rays ? Mine works fine, tried with two different movies both with dialog. Have you tried the THX settings? Look on the task bar in hidden icons for the THX symbol click to open THX controls, Try turning the dialog plus up and the surround down. I do remember when I rented Avengers the Dialog volume was weak, through TV speakers. I had to run it through home theater to hear dialog and up volume too. So you might be out of luck on that movie, Though I figure anyone buying this laptop, can't only have it as their main BD player?
-
No problems I've been using the 13.1 WHQL drivers since the day they were released and I haven't had any graphical related problems since, its a whole new machine. I've also fixed my wireless issues on Win 7 X64 Pro using drivers provided by some chez republic website for atheros.
-
Yeah I upgraded to 13.1 today everything runs smoother, very happy with this laptop!
-
It would seem there is now a new official driver on MSI's GX60 driver downloads section. Anyone tried it yet? Im sure there are better ones out there performance wise, maybe.. but hopefully this one will have screen brightness support!
Downloading it now, but wary of installing it out of fear of something going wrong and not being an expert on fixing these things. Anyone braver than me wanna try first and post their experiences? -
Yeah that's the same as ATI's 13.1 but it's bigger the ATI 1 works perfect not sure about MSI's
-
Hi everyone, I recently picked up a GX60 mainly due to the excellent price, the 7970M, and the potential upgradability of the demonstrably weak CPU (compared with other high-end laptops sporting an i7).
I'm diggin it so far - although I havent had too much time to throw any strenuous games at it as of yet. I have a couple of questions about how the whole dual video card setup works, and whether my drivers are installed correctly - I have browsed much of this thread, but didnt see anything about it.
Initially I was a bit confused about the per application settings and how to tell whether the 7970M was taking the reigns, but the helpful info in this thread solved that (orange light means dedicated graphics, which means onboard) - now I'm just trying to figure out if the drivers are happy... I ran a 3d mark test, and the results are.. strange...
AMD Radeon HD 7660G video card benchmark result - AMD A10-4600M,Micro-Star International Co., Ltd. MS-16FK score: P45281 3DMarks
Three video cards are showing, the onboard looks correct (though I've since updated the drivers), but there's a generic VGA adapter and a bogus looking 7970M! Does anyone know what's up with that? I've seen results in this thread from 3d mark 11 which are a bit higher than I managed (P4530 vs P5150 - AMD Radeon HD 7660G video card benchmark result - AMD A10-4600M,Micro-Star International Co., Ltd. MS-16FK score: P5150 3DMarks) that show the proper information... is there an issue with my driver install, or should I write it off as general weirdness because everything seems to run okay?
Also, what video card drivers to I grab? Does the general ATI Catalyst download cover the mobility series as well? Do I do the oldschool remove+clean+reinstall each time I update the drivers, or does it handle that properly now (havent had a gaming machine for a while).
Finally, does steam recognise the card for anyone else? In the past I've used steam to get new drivers and it was a piece of cake... when I try now I get directed to a page that my graphics card made by "unknown" has to be updated manually.
TIA for any help =) -
windows updated something today (I don't know what was it, but since I arrived and I notice people talking about new video drivers Im suspecting it's that), ever since the number of devices I get in dota 2 has increased
anyone has any idea on how to deal with this? -

Number of devices in dota 2?

If the next CPU is compatable, even if it gives a meh bump in speed, ill take what I can get. A meh bump in speed can equal about 5 - 10 frames in a previously listed CPU limited game.
Especially If this time around each of the four cores actually gets a bulldozer core unlike the 4600m which suffers from only technically having 2 bulldozers. So it's more than a dual core but less than a quad. -
the link on the msi website is broken... getiing "not found" error
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Well the cpu side is the same, the gpu is gcn and the mem controller is improved.
-
Just get the ATI official driver 13.1 for mobility.MSI USA does not even support laptop drivers.
-
Well was hoping that with those msi drivers i would get my brightness control again.
-
The 1866 memory support would also help make it worth while.
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Well the bios supports 1866 so that would hopefully be included.
-
Hey guys, I just got my GX60 a couple days ago and I am having issues getting the Eyefinity to work on the 3 Dell 23" e2311h. I plug all three into the back like you would think would need to be done, and it still will not let me set up a profile because it says the monitor on the display port a unrecognized monitor. I have no clue what to do, any help or ideas would be much appreciated.
The light on the power key is white and I was thinking it would only let me do it if the light was orange, but then i got to thinking that it probably only supports two displays that way also. So I am not sure where to go from here. -
And needs to hurry up with some announcements for compatable CPUs
.
Ill bet money that if they did announce a CPU that was comparable to an I5 it i7 that would work in this socket, this laptop would fly off the shelves -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Well this one wont and 2013 is going to be pretty dry, they have some interesting stuff coming since they restructured but these things take time to get through the pipeline and it will be mid 2014 till they arrive so for now they have battened down the hatches.

If you haven't seen them yet, Catatalyst 13.2 beta 7

well I used to get 4 graphical glitches per game, a game lasts from 30 min to an hour, last day I got one every 5 min or so.
these problems ranged from random black lines flashing on the screen, textures flashing and stuff like this.
it's weird that more demanding games like dawn of war 2 retribution run more smoothly with everything maxed in 6 player games with tons of units on screen. -
Sounds like a heat problem
-
According to HW monitor when playing dota my CPU is 106-110C and my GPU is 52-54C
from what I heard on another site my issues could be mainly due to AMD's lousy support for DX9, but I don't know. -
Hey,
This CPU temp is too high and GPU seems like idling. Are you sure You weren't playing on integrated GPU? That could have caused the CPU temp to go upwards thus creating graphical glitches. -
Your CPU temp is way too high
-
Hey Guys,
I'm just wondering if anyone else is having problems with GPU-z, mine has never really worked on this laptop it either never loads up after waiting 5mins or it loads after about 5mins with an error but clicking ok doesn't stop the program from starting.
Also once I do get it going it always shows the 7970m around 50-60C and the 7660G at 110C it actually gets cooler the hotter the PC and higher the cooler it is, I figured its just a problem with GPU-z.
Any programs people would recommend other then gPU-Z to get my temps?
I use CPU monitor and I never go past 60C, and I only play League of Legends full time (which can be runned at full with the 7660G)
Also the last few days I've been getting rendering problems with textures and I haven't updated any drivers or change anything.
BTW I use a cooling pad on this thing....
PS Dota 2 & League of Legends are about the same game so perhaps there is a related problem when it comes to things not rendering correctly...
Cheers! -

You need to look into repasting your CPU or sending it back to your reseller to get them to do it. -
So I figured out the bluray issue, there was a "tru theater" sound option in Powerdvd10 that fixed it, still not perfect to my ears but definitely watchable.
Also wanted to say this about Guild Wars 2. I've found a setting that looks half-way decent and runs the game well. While fooling around with the settings I noticed that changing the resolution had almost no effect on the frame rate. Other things like shaders and animations were affecting it. So I changed the sampling option to "super-sample" which renders for a screen resolution larger than native and shrinks it. I keep everything else on low (with maybe medium animations) and the game runs great while still looking good. Hope this helps anyone who is thinking about the gx60.
I have a question about the touchpad though. Are there settings anywhere to disable tap-to-click? My palms are huge and I tend to touch it when typing which deselects my text. Very annoying. If anyone knows of a fix it'd be much appreciated! -
Well the temperatures I displayed where when running Dota 2, I havn't tried to OC the system or anything like that and I can't send back my system to the reseller as Im in another country
Edit: I just installed coretemp and over there it reads 41-46C while HW monitor reads 91-95C this is when idling, which one should I believe? -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
What does your fan sound like when idling, if you were at 91-95C then the fan would be on max.
-
it sounds pretty quiet and a few warm air comes out of it, so I guess for processor temperatures I should go for coretemp? anyway on dota2 it does seem to run at a higher speed and some hot air comes, and if I run it with everything maxed and anti-aliasing it does get very hot (the air and chasis, I havn't used temperature programs until yesterday and today) anyway I no longer run it with everything maxed until better drivers come out with better support for dota2 or something.
other games like DoW2, CS:GO only make it warm with everything maxed out. -
AMD A-Series A10-5750M Notebook Processor - NotebookCheck.net Tech
Possible new CPU upgrade woot, though the increase doesnt look like much. -
hwmonitor is not showing the cpu temp correctly, at idle is no way 90+ C. I usually look at the iGPU temp, since iGPU and CPU is pretty much the same chip. iGPU seems like it is showing a correct temp.
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
You could potentially see those temperatures if a heat pipe is broken or if the paste job was terrible/non existent, but the fans would be reacting to that so that's why I was checking.
-
AMD even demonstrated by dropping a Richland APU into an off the shelf HP laptop with a Trinity. So the new ones are socket compatbable. That notebookcheck listing looks to be a bit wrong. I mean, a 20% GPU performance over 7660G is not a slight bump. CPU performance should be about 10% improvement and there may be more to it than that.
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Well the GCN cores are more efficient so more of the TDP might be able to go to the CPU, it would be really nice to get a 45W version of that though with 1866mhz memory and suddenly the machine would look a lot more appealing.
-
hey guys, I'd like to ask you because i'm getting pretty upset with this issue: is it common perceiving backlight issues caused by the heat zones of the screen, like overlit areas depending on the viewangle? mostly showing on blacky/gray screens.still on guarantee period
thnx everybody! -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Yes dark areas can seem a bit lighter at off center viewing angles.
-
Are you guys excited upgrade to Richland? I cannot wait to see the first pieces on Ebay or where else will possible to buy?
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
How excited people are will depend on how much the CPU aspect is allowed to improve.
-
Hey all
This is my first post, so I hope I won't start it with any silly/obvious questions, but I have a few
First off, WOW! 110 pages. I read every single page, and I really have to say Thanks. I don't know enough about hardware, and there are too many things that went over my head, but I learnt a lot more than I could have hoped for
Ofcourse, now I really want to get one of these GX60's, but I don't live in the first world, so it's gonna take some time
Which brings me to my first question, I notice people have mentioned gentech a lot, so I'm assuming that's the best place to pick one up from, am I wrong in this? Bearing in mind that I cannot RMA the machine [well, not easily anyway].
Some sites list that the GX60 comes with a gaming mouse and a padded backpack, is this accurate? (And if yes, from gentech as well? (Example: MSI GX60 Review ))
And finally, the big hardware questions.. I'm sorry if I'm asking some 'basic' questions, I've done my best research, but I could do with some more professional help if anyone's got the time
- When configuring the laptop, there are 3 screen options:
a] 15.6" 16:9 1920X1080 Full HD LED backlight (Matte-Type)
b] 15.6" 16:9 1920X1080 Full HD LED backlight (glossy) [+ $75.00]
c] 15.6" 16:9 1920X1080 Full HD LED backlight Ultra Bright, 95% NTSC Color Gamut, Anti-Glare [+ $165.00]
I don't know what the last one means, is it necessary or is the default matte screen good? 165$ is an amount I'd much rather not pay and I generally prefer matte to glossy, but I don't have any way of seeing the GX60 before buying , so.. some help please?
Next, after reading everything here, I'm convinced I want an SSD. So, just to make sure I've got things right, I want to select as my "primary hard drive" an SSD, and a regular drive for the "secondary hard drive".. right? I checked the prices on newegg, and they seem to be within the same range as on the gentech configurator, so I can pick the 120GB OCZ Vertex 3 Solid State Drive SSD SATA III 6Gb/s (my research says pretty much all the SSD's within this price range are around the same quality), but I'm really new at this and hoping for some affirmation
- "RAID".. I don't want this, Am I making a mistake?
This is something I can just toggle from the bios if it turns out to make a huge difference, right?
- "Hard drive caddy" --- That means I can remove the DVD Drive and put a hard disk instead, right? I don't actually need to select this to get the "secondary hard drive" to work.. I think?
- The wireless card. I read reviews about the "Killer Wireless-N 1103" ( Killer Wireless-N 1103 Review: Can Qualcomm Take On Centrino? : Killer Wireless: Is It Able To Usurp Intel's Centrino?) and, ok great, seems better than the Intel card, but can't seem to find anything comparing it to the 1202. I generally need something that's not going to disconnect me every 2 hours, or refuse to reconnect after a hibernate unless I restart [my current machine does that! Stupid!!] Any recommendations?
- Finally (thanks to anyone who read this far!): RAM.
I need the laptop for work, not just gaming ;-) I work in software (I'm a code monkey: java, python, etc.. ) I know the cpu isn't the greatest, but I _believe_ it should be more than enough to get the job done. Especially with the 2.7 overclock. Eclipse, firefox [with loads of tabs], VirtualBox VM's etc.. should be fine. I hope. Anyone tried any of these on the machine? I'll be dual booting with linux, if anyone has any advice about that with respect to drivers or issues about the hardware ..?
So, because of work and virtual machines, I believe the more the RAM the merrier
I'm also optimistic about Richland (hey, even 10% is an improvement), but probably won't upgrade right away. I'm blowing most of my budget on finding and shipping this as is
So:
a] does the machine supoort 2x16GB modules for 32GB of RAM ?
b] should I get 16GB DDR3 1600/PC3 Dual-Channel (8G X 2) [+ $85.00] or should I look for DDR3 1866/PC3 Dual-Channel on newegg with the hopes that Richland will be "happier" with 1866 ? Any recommendations?
Lots of questions, I'm way too ignorant when it comes to hardware
I apologize if I've wasted anybody's time, and really appreciate anyone making it this far
Thanks again

So, now it seems the new official graphics driver from MSI is available for download. Before we got a 404. I haven't installed it yet, but I hope this one does indeed have brightness control. It's available for download at http://www.msi.com/product/nb/GX60.html#?div=Driver So, we might see some Machine-specific optimizations maybe. Anyone more sofisticated than me can run a few tests and benchmarks and stuff to see if there is any difference between like the original graphics drivers from like November, the most current 13.1 mobility one out there and this one?
-
I had contact with msi about the 404 and they fixxed it. I also have contact with them about the backlight bug and the advised this :
Kinda strange cause i dont see an update
-
ooo this is exciting, I'm trying it right now and run some tests
-
Exciting news!!!!
I installed the MSI one, it shows up as ver. 13.2
I ran 3dmark 11 and the score came out to be the same as the newest beta drives. give or take a few points.
ANNNNDDDDDD WITH actual full brightness control!!!! -
That's very good news! Lets hope 13.3 will not demolish the brightnes control again
-
1. I contacted Gentech, XoticPC, and PowerNotebooks when I wanted to buy a GT60. I preferred GentechPC.
2. I have heard that the GX60's stock screen is decent.
3. I think that you need two identical hard drives for RAID.
4. The Killer 1202 is said to have driver issues, but the 1103 on my laptop has not given me problems. The Intel 6300 might be the best mix of stability and performance
