1) It's probably reading error in the program you are using, not way an idle APU would reach such temps, try using HWmonitor or AIDA64
2) Yes, however for the dedicated gpu -> go to guru3d site and download 14.8 WHQL drivers - these are stable, support Mantle, and give nice boost compared to the MSi driver.
3) PSCheck to force turbo on the APU, depending on your A-10 it's 2.7 Ghz for 4600m and 3.2 Ghz for 5750m. You cannot overclock retail A-10s, only ES version (Engineering Sample) of an APU can be overcloced (it still can be purchased on auctions on the net).
4) Newest CCC 14.8 WHQL with I mentioned above has a good iGPU/dGPU switch module, earlier versions had problems figuring out witch GPU you want to use, but starting from 14.4 it got better.

HWmonitor gives 100 ish whilst AIDA64 gives a reasonably 50 so I'm not sure which one is right.
Also, did you have trouble getting windows 8 to update, mine doesn't download anything, even when I do it one by one.

No way it's 100 C, the 50 C read is the credible one.

Also, if you want more CPU power, try to get Enginnering Sample of A-10 5750m (it has the "ES" tag in description on auctions).
They are still being sold on the internet, but they are becoming far in between, as the ammount of available pieces is thawing.
Be fast, get A-10 5750m ES - you can get one for 60 USD with free shipping from China.
Such CPU gives you about 15-25% performance boost in games and it requires only a bit of research and tweaking to learn how to properly overclock it. Also it is currently THE best CPU you can put in any GX series notebook.
I could help you out with the OC, if you get that ES.

Does anyone know, if I can install Hitman Edition BIOS on my GX60-1AC now that I have a Richland CPU?

I could bypass the ROMID check and force the install... but I don't know if this can brick my laptop...

HI, I was wondering if you can do some tests on games and tell me how games run on it, like how much fps you get for a CPU demanding game. Also if switching CPU cause a big increase in temp, and reduced battery life by a lot?
I actually just got a sager np9150 for a pretty high price, but i also just got a msi gx60 for almost half the cost. I was originally put off by how the A10-4600 was so slow, but for $50 if it can put it closer to an i5 proformance I would much rather save over half the cost of the sager.

 

Is the temp of a10 4600m under heavy load 80-90 degrees safe? Been using it for 1.5 years

 

All of my HD Games can play smoothly in GX60 with the very high/ultra graphics, except only of 2 games, Need For Speed: Most Wanted 2012 and FarCry3.

*So in NFS:MW, I can play it SMOOTHLY on Medium Settings graphics, but when I put in on a High Settings, the FPS drops to 10-12fps. That's so ridiculous right.

**And here's what the most I became frustated, in FarCry3. When i first open the game, OF COURSE, i put all the graphics settings to Ultra, and blah blah blah to high. but HOLY , when I play the game, the FPS is about 2-5 fps.
And then I try the VERY HIGH Graphics, and its go to 5-7fps.
And the HIGH Graphics, go to 10-13fps.
And the MEDIUM Graphics, go to 15-17fps.
And the LOW Graphics, go to 20-25fps.
And lastly the VERY LOW Graphics, go to 30-35fps.
SO IN THAT, I PLAY THE GAME SMOOTHLY ON VERY LOW SETTINGS>

Is the problem on GX60Laptop or on the 2 games I said above?

No.

My GX60 after 2 years with A-10 4600m was reaching about 74C and that is in very intensive tasks.
Now that I upgraded to A-10 5750m ES I get 25 C (no load) - 85 C (maximum load for about and hour and onward) after overclocking to 3.6 Ghz, so you see it's most likely the dust in your vents that blocks the outflow of hot air.

 

A-10 is the culprit, the CPU is weak.

 

I think they are out of the A-10 5750m ES. I can't find any on ebay ..... at least nothing shows up when i search for A-10 5750m ES.

The real ES must have a "AMD ENG SAMPLE" sentence on the black area (like the one in the link above).
Also, notice how ES, spite being better CPUs for GX users, are cheaper, than the retail A-10s.

I waited for about 30 days to get my ES, but it was worth it

Just be patient.

You will get about 25-30% performance boost, maybe even bigger, if ES piece you will get will have even better threshold for OC.

Anyway, 3.6 Ghz ES running on 1.2000 voltage is 100% stable (use AMD Overdrive to set the frequencies and voltages).
Also you WILL need an unlocked BIOS to permanently turn off Turbo mode on the ES in the BIOS settings (otherwise, ES will always want to run on pre-defined 2.5 Ghz - 3.2 Ghz frequencies) .

My advice of action is:

1) install ES,you can use the thermal paste from this vendor (you will get one tube of paste for FREE along with the ES in the package),
2) run the laptop for the first time, you will notice that your graphics are all messed up (Windows won't see the CCC drives), just use "Driver Display Uninstaller" from the Guru3D. After full clean-up of the old AMD drivers install the newest CCC drives (current is 14.8 WHQL), just remember to do CUSTOM install to un-tick Gaming Evolved (useless aggravating malware from AMD, that is supposed to help you optimize games, but in reality it never helps, just gets in the way).
3) dowload the newest BIOS for the "Hitman Edition" of GX60, this BIOS will work (I use it with no problem) since GX60-1AC and GX60 "Hitman Edition" only differ in terms of CPU (Trinity vs Richland). Richland ES will run all right on Trinity BIOS, but since you will have a Richland ES, it's better to have Richland BIOS - just in case.
4) durning the update of BIOS, a ROMID check will not allow you to update - it's a safety measure witch needs to be bypassed. I can guide you through it once you get your ES.
5) after updating to Richland BIOS from the Hitman Edition - the new BIOS still needs to be unlocked to access the CPU turbo mode settings, for this you need files not available on MSi site, PM me and I can send you them.

 

I see. I have to lower my apu clocks all the time to get the temp low. Is 75 degrees safe (long term)? So how was ur new apu? How good is it? Still bottlenecking?

 

My ES? Still bottlenecking, but a lot less, than my previous A-10 4600m!
I am satisfied with this upgrade, since Mantle games should run without a single fart on ES well... maybe except GTA V, but if that game does get Mantle support, then GTA IV will look like a parody of programming beside it.

Open your GX and clean the dust from the fan, it's very easy and should help with the temps.

Something is wrong. I get more than 30-35 with on 1080p with the integrated card on lowest settings. Highest settings got me 40-50fps.

Clarification: I used dGPU for highest settings.

 

Check your load levels/frequencies/temperatures.

That sounds like regular behavior from different viewing angles which is typical of TN panels. Unless its very drastic then it could be bad. But since it looks regular when viewing strait on.

For that you need unlocked BIOS files.
First however, it's better to upgrade to Hitman Edition BIOS, but do that afte r you run the laptop for the first time with ES inside and then unlock the new Hitman Edition BIOS. For that you will need to bypass the ROMID check, otherwise BIOS will not install.

I can post links to both set of files once you people get your ES pieces, so that everyone has a guide here on the forum, insead of having to send numerous PMs about that.

GX has rather good cooling, overclocked A-10 5750m 3.6 Ghz gets up to 88 C but only for a moment, so yes it's good for notebook cooling.

As for the CPU, well getting an Enginnering Sample does help a lot, so if you can secure one A-10 5750m ES for yourself, then GX60 is a very nice competition for much more expensive GT60.

 

Hi LisuPoland! I have a gx70 3be laptop with stock 5750 cpu and reading your reviews i bought yesterday an 5750 Es cpu from the link you posted. Is a good update? Im having a lot of bottlenecking in some games like dead rising 3 (15 fps with a lot of zombies) and some parts of tomb raider in big areas. I think bios tweek is not necesary in my model to change cpu, I have the latest bios version updated and the locked options unlocked with msi enabler program. Any advice? Thanks a lot.

 

A-10 5750m ES does not eliminate bottleneck, but it reduces it often to the point where things become smooth.
Heavy load areas like you mentioned will still have lower FPS, but it might become a lot more bareable, than what you have now.

First, wanted to say, apologies if this topic has already been covered. With 405 pages in the GX60 owners thread, and not knowing what exactly to search for - figured it would be best to post here and hope i can get some direction...

I have a first gen GX60 and am having huge issues when it comes to wireless connection speed. Is this a known issue? or perhaps isolated?

I believe my wireless adapter is the issue due to some testing i have performed testing wireless through my work computer (Dell), my ipad, and my iphone. All of these devices show solid speeds, and what i would expect while my GX60 maxes out at 1mbps download speed, and 6 mpbs on upload on a 25mbps connection.

Testing with my work computer, i am getting a steady 20mbps down, and 6mbps up. My ipad and iphone both get 25mbps down and 6mbps up.

All tests were run using speedtest.net.



So - question is... are there known issues with the GX60 wireless adapter? Is there a way to fix these issues?

I have a gx60 1ac and also i am waiting for a 5750m es to upgrade but meanwhine i noticed that came out another catalyst version, 14.9 that i already try
and finally could i say that the mantle is working on BF4 without any tricks like disable the igpu but unfortunatly for me it are braking like a hell .
Can anyone trying and tell me if the problem is only mine or if is general?? Could be only my problem of configurations.

Hi, the game dont run smoths as in directx 11 mode, with the mante enabled have good fps but it are constantly dropping here an there etc...
The image have freezes.

 

It's the problem with the game itself.
BF4 has bad Mantle support.

 

Fifa15's performance is very bad on a GX70.
