yah, it is a sweet deal :p especially for someone like me who can use a student discount and also ship it to a family member in Montana to avoid tax. Titanium accounts are just dumb, no one ever gets a 0% account. The only other rate they offer is like 21% APR.....you would have to be pretty nuts to use it.

yeah the shipping kinda kills me here too, its 110 for me, though it is fedex, so that means ill actually get it before its obsolete which is nice...

the stuttering issues kinda creep me out, even if theyre recertified, theres no telling if that northbridge has been gettin cooked by the previous owner. me no likey.

has anyone managed to find any us vendors for the 723/725, ive been scavanging for video cards or other cheap models to grab but it seems like those days are over.

Btw msi has released actual Win7 drivers for all the equip on their GX720 page

Is it in device manager at all? The only other thing I can think of is maybe your card is trying to map itself as another drive. To check, open the start menu, right click on computer, and select manage. In the left hand column, click on disk management. See if your card is in that list, and if it is, change the drive letter to something else random.

are you using xp, vista or 7,

if youre getting that error it sounds like it might be xp to me, your best bet is to first get ahold of the intel inf utility, which will install basic and most up to date drivers for all of your items i.e. that mass storage controller which doesnt have a driver, that will allow alot of the other little things in your machine to work properly, then try and install the O2 memory card reader crap, it should work fine then.

had the same/similar issue when i was installing xp... but now i have 7... installation was a breeze.

Install Intel Chipset Software and install the CIR driver.
    Then all issues are/should resolved.

It's the C-Cover, this is where the keyboard cover is located.
Also the LCD hinges are fixed to this part, just check the speaker out.
The arrow is pointing at the space, curve which is located under the LCD to lift it.

brad, id say ditch vista and grab yourself a copy of windows 7 rtm, until its released and you can get the free upgrade, the latest version of the rtm, is a the final build before retail so theres no changes, and yes its completely legal to have and use, as we all recall microsoft was dishing them out like candy, all you have to do is get the 64bit version, register on microsofts page and grab a free key from the generator microsoft has on the win7 page.

Right off the bat its waay better and has all the drivers and everything youll need bud,

as for the video error, not sure what the deal is there, there could be multiple problems, so heres multiple solutions...

    1. Get drivercleaner or an equivalent and dump the old stock drivers and get the latest from nvidia, theyll work fine.

    2. make sure tv settings are stock, and the aspect ratio is on normal.

    3. in the nvidia control panel under tv, click and adjust the hdtv signal, that puts you in the correct res for your tv.

    4. use the option to reside hdtv desktop if the screen still appears warped, youll have to click this option, and then click the radio button saying yes to resize hdtv desktop, once thats done, therell be a full screen app on your tv with two sliders for height and width, slide em till you get the blue all the way across the screen. that should be it.

    5. if that doesnt work its possible that there are problems with the connection somewhere along the line, to possibly include the hdmi port on the laptop, the cable, or the tv.

let us know what happens and good luck..

as for the service pack, id say check the installed programs and see if its on there or not, if it is try manually uninstalling it then try and install it again, though if you are determined to stay on vista ult, do clean reinstall, but make sure you have all the software ready so you can get back up and running.

    @tom,

alot of people really like the intel 5300's they are nice full speed wireless n cards, i myself have no real use for n so i got the AR5006x from atheros, awesome card and usually better than other wifi cards, as well as nice linux compatibility, theyre real cheap like $15 on ebay. pretty much any wifi card will work, the half or full size ones, it doesnt matter theres mounting brackets for each.

    @dimartino
G.Skill DDR800, Sodimm kit, model # F2-6400CL5D-4GBSQ, awesome ram, really cheap and oc's from ddr800 to ddr1000 in my laptop and doesnt complain. Grab it at newegg or the vendor of your choice.

No spare screws, this is 100%.
The only different can be the construction for the case/cover depending on the convert you both have done.
Please keep in mind the power board is screwed different and the make some pics or show some pics from the convert.
I can give you the assemble manual and other which might give the answer.

in general with the replacement of lcd screens theres gonna be a grounding wire like that, basically when you disassembled the machine, one of the screws for the lcd screen also had that ring on it, id say all if not like 98% have that also screwed into the metal chunks of the hinge at the base of where the screen connects to the mounts in the bottom of the laptop, you should see a little bit of a ring left from where it was screwed before, if not dont worry, just like i said put it on one of the hinges. itll be fine.

if you want confirmation ask rep for that manual...

Btw the reason for this whole deal is im looking for a specific hz screen for win7/vista x64, apparently my screen defaults to 59hz and battlefield doesnt like that very much, if anyones willing to take a look at their screens and see what the windows reported hz is thatd be awesome, furthermore, if you wouldnt mind one again grab this tool and check what the monitor name and manufacturer is please, instructions are as follows...

click the registry cube, then the pencil, and then click on detailed timings, then click block 4, then click on ascii string, it should give you the specific name for your monitor, this tool cannot directly or indirectly hurt your machine as it is just a reader. thx guys id really really appreciate it, i need my fix. i <3 my 2142 and bf2

....speaking of manuals hey rep would you mind sending a copy of those my way, wanna see the best way for lcd removal on these laptops. Ive ran into a rather infuriating problem with this lcd screen, given its got a great picture and all that jazz, but it runs at 59hz for some reason in win7, and im considering replacing it with a higher res screen thatll do 60,

i guess this goes for you rep, and anyone else if they need a replacement screen ill prolly be gettin rid of this one here soon, Wuxga, non glossy, Samsung for prolly $130 or so, ill have a 1440x900 screen from my 725 up for grabs also, prolly for $100

    * actually in regards to the screens i have a question for everyone here with their machine running either vista x64 or 7x64, can you guys check and see what refresh rate you are using on your monitor? im trying to source a confirmed 60hz monitor and apparently its kinda hard, if anyone would mind thatd be awesome.

*update, well im back to windows xp now, running my ultramodded xp64 and yes, i have 60hz back, now i have to decide if i wanna dualboot, or just x64 it out. decisions decisions. X64 drivers all work well, but it looks like msi has gotten rid of the x64 drivers for anything less than 7/Vista, if anyone needs these i have a full set including the SCM that works for windows xp.

Just pull it back trough the opening for the LCD cable, you then get the cable on the top of the notebook just above the keyboard.
On that side there should be a frame which is fixed to the case of the notebook.
If this isn't clear just let me know I will get the picture.

theyre alright, personally i like elixir ram alot more, but the best for this notebook with proven compatibility and results is G.Skill, got mine from newegg for about that price, heres the model number: F2-6400CL5D-4GBSQ its standard ddrII valuram right? wrong for ram it clocks itself up to ddr1000 and runs like a champ completely stable, and doesnt complain at all, im using the msi overclock at 24%. Ive used them before and highly reccomend em, not to mention its retardedly cheap for this pack.

*Edit* okay so its not as cheap as that ram you listed but lookat the reviews here + reviews at newegg, heres the link for the ram...
only thing i didnt like about this ram is i didnt get the sweet gskill sticker =[ i need to pimp my laptop a bit, and a shiny red sticker sounds pretty good to me.

never heard of msy, however thats why i gave you the model number also so that you have a fighting chance of finding it elsewhere. that ram is awesome, since it retians its 5.5.5.15 timings at ddr1000, though i wish id be able to check the timings, 1t would be epic.

also if youre really wanting newegg prices you can get one of those international forwarding addresses, its basically a proxy mailbox that gives you a dummy address in the us and then forwards via international mail. dont have the linkage or name but i know they exist.

looks like thats about as close as youre gonna get, im guessing theyre basically the single module version of the dual channel kit i got, good luck to you, hope they clock as well in your machine as they do in mine :D

As for lcd replacement i have successfully upgraded to a WUXGA screen and its beautiful in 7, this screen is soo much brighter than the standard lcd included in this laptop, LG FTW!. Oh and Battlefield 2/2142 work now in win7 YAY!

Please share the model/part number for the LCD you used. The stupid 59Hz thing has been the only thing I've really not liked about my MS-1722 and MS-1719. Also, I assume it's just a panel swap that doesn't require any other components?

    Thanks

@ reaper, okay so yes the lcd i replaced mine with works beautifully, and omg is WAY brighter than the stock matte samsung, this one has 0 dead pixels also so i won big.

the samsung panel that was replaced was named SEC 4347, aka LTN170WP-L02, i replaced it with an LG 1920x1200 Glossy with no problem, p/n LP171WU1, that screen cost about $130 shipped, apparently its the same screen used in alot of the high end dell laptops, a straight 17.0 screen, i believe the brightness is 700:1, as for clarity and viewing angles are impressive with a small amount of discoloration.

there are two slight issues with the installation of this lcd:
first that there are two brackets that need to be removed at the bottom of the screen for it to sit right, one which interferes with one of the bezel clips,
and the second which is a bracket used to hold the inverter, useless i might add in this laptop since the inverter is seated on the back of the aluminum panel and perfectly secure,
third, the inverter cable, is a little short since most of its legnth is covered with plastic tape, though a quick cut with a sharp knife freed up the needed cable for routing to the inverter.

all things said and done, it rate it an 7.5/10 for installation difficulty, simply due to the brackets, i bent mine off with a pair of pliers since i dont have a saw or shears readily available to solve the problem, if you take this route, be careful about the flex, so you dont crunch your screen, though if done carefully and you go after the rivets the brackets will come off easily.

I might add that the bezel impressed me by not breaking any of its clippy things coming off as most screens usually lose one, though not to important, as for the magnets that hold the lid shut, watch out for them, theyre a bit too strong for the tape that holds them in place, theyll attack your screen as you are trying to put it in.

I'll add pictures shortly, gonna go back in and attack that inverter bracket here since its causing the bottom of the bezel to bulge a bit.

baseline, if you can get the mounting bracket crap off and youre comfortable, go for it, this screen is goregeous. and is confirmed 60hz, so battlefield 2142/BF2 and all the other 60hz only games will run flawlessly.

@ dimartino21, I know this is gonna sound like a stupid question, but since you've had your case open you might know. Exactly how many DIMM slots does the 1722 mobo have? I've got the GT725 and Everest says slots 1&3 are filled, and slots 2&4 are empty. Any clue?

Thanks! Kinda figured that. Nice pix btw. I've only had my system a few months, but haven't worked up the nerve to crack it open and start poking around it's innards.

Sorry it's to confidential. (i have connections with MSI)
But i will check the 1651 BIOS and Firmware.

Latest update available for the 1651 barebone.

    BIOS: 1.12 full details (A1651IG6_112)
    Firmware: 4.31 full details (1651EG61.431)

Please keep in mind BIOS and FIRMWARE updates are done on your own risk.

Sorry, i don't mean "exactly" where you get them, I just want to find download links. Can you get them for me? I have the gt628 barebone.

I find it odd that the barebone has version 1.12 while the "msi" version gets 1.11. Also the "msi" version has 4.32 firmware.

I also have similar question like you. I got GX720 parts, can I update it to GT725? I'm looking for 4850 mobile gpu so that is the only difference they have so I think it shouldn't be a problem or?
