Enjoy the GS75! I would have gone that route but my work travel setup would not fit the 17" laptop.

That's a bummer. Dual channel gives a good performance over single channel ram.
-

Dual channel (8x2) is a free upgrade at GentechPC. No bummer mate. Audiall likes this.

Well, it is for me :/

It's going to cost about 200 dollars to ship to my country and warranty claims are sure to be a hassle

$150 for 2x16GB (32GB) at HIDEvolution. YOLO with the flipped mobo, lol.

Hey could someone please post pictures of the new etched logo, top down and oblique photo if you could. Thanks!

Any new build-details on the new edition? Is it still a bit flimsy, og has MSI done any design changes?

By the way is it all aluminium?Eason likes this.

Have you read the review posted by JRey or some of the other posts on this thread, good references as to build quality.

They have reinforced some areas and moved the power button from the grill. Not as flimsy as last gen.

Is the cooling improved on this model? CPU throttling was SUPER bad on the last one...
-

In short, yes. Check out JRey’s review for an in depth review.

That review seems to be with an HIDevolution unit with LM though, I'm curious how it is at stock ryzeki likes this.

I think GenTech PC posted a video that shows temps after running some benchmarks. ryzeki likes this.

I'm going to buy it tonight through GentechPC. I'll have two M.2 NVMe drives (512GB each) and 16GB RAM (8GB x2). I'm ordering it with Thermal Grizzly Conductonaut (I think that's how you spell it) on both the CPU and GPU. Also, Fujipoly Extreme thermal pads and MSI 2 year warranty. All of the above (minus the M.2 drives) is a free upgrade from GENTECHPC. Is it better to install games on the same drive as my OS or use the other one? ryzeki likes this.
-

Personally, I like to have OS and major programs on the same drive, with games and media on the other drive.

You can save money (and not really notice any performance difference) by getting NVME for your OS drive and a SATA SSD for yoru games/storage drive. I.E. 512GB NVME + 1TB SATA...the price difference will likely give you that much more storage.

I went with the stock 256GB NVME and added a 1TB SATA SSD for $225 installed.
-

Thanks for all the good advice. I just placed the order: primary OS drive will be the Samsung EVO 970 M.2 NVMe (500GB), which was only $119 at GentechPC. The second drive will be my existing Intel 600p M.2 NVMe (also 500GB), which I'm mailing out to GentechPC to install for free. Can't wait.

FYI, the new driver that was released by NVidia today seems to break Shadow of the Tomb Raider, bringing performance down UNDER 10FPS.
 Can anyone else confirm?
Also, I cannot download the NVidia Control Panel in the Windows Store. Is anyone else having that issue? I’m stuck at “starting download”. I tried clearing cache, switching users, reinstalling the store.
Also, I did download the DHC driver for both the Intel and Nvidia GPU since that’s a requirement to get the control panel to work.

Do you have the 2019-01 Cumulative Update for Windows 10? I had to check manually on my GS65 2019...

I have the latest build from January 22.

I wound up buying a stock model with only 256GB in SSD1. I'm good taking a shot at the self-install. Any recommendations for an NVMe 512GB or 1TB SSD? My understanding is that it needed to be PCIe to go in the SSD2 slot of last year's model. Same for 2019?
-

A cheap and decent option is a HP EX920. I picked mine up for $200 CAD. Fast enough that I'll never see a difference vs an EVO, and like half the cost.

I bought the same model. I'll just be swapping my 920 over from my 1070 GS65.

Install is super easy. Just mind all the small connectors and the speaker wire that runs along the battery.
-

 I bought the GS65 RTX2080 and added a 1TB Samsung 970 EVO and got 2X16GB Viper 2400 RAM.

Will try the new driver tonight and confirm FPS in Tomb Raider.
I did run into a lot of issues with Geforce Experience not connecting to the internet and not scanning my games, but it seems it works for a few minutes right after rebooting so I managed to grab the latest driver last night doing that. The Nvidia control panel from the windows store was no issue for me. I had to use it to change FPS to 120Hz for my Alienware 34" (aw3418dw), with no problems.

I come from a Gigabyte P35X V6, with GTX1070, and this MSI is much smaller and lighter and feels twice as fast on 3440 x 1440 resolution. Major difference for me!
-

btw, do you guys keep the MSI apps like the dragon control center or Killer control center? These add any real value to anyone? First time MSI user here trying to figure out what I should keep VS get rid of. Thx

Ordered mine yesterday from GenTech PC. Super awesome experience, Ken over there is awesome. They are running a 2019 sale as @rockelino gave us all a heads up for. Opted for Kryonaut for longevity. Very excited to get some many awesome upgrades for $0.01 each! Repaste, new thermal pads, 30 day no dead pixels, free 2 year manufacturer warranty, and upgrade to dual channel RAM. Definitely worth a look if you're getting ready to buy! ryzeki likes this.

I do. Not a fan of ThrottleStop. I’ve never had any issues with the default software (other than uninstalling Norton in favor of Cylance Smart AntiVirus).

Sounds great - FYI make sure you still shop around if you want to validate a “good deal”. Those freebies just lead to higher prices elsewhere, potentially. I spec’d Out a similar GS65 2080 mq there and it was $100 cheaper overall versus HIDEvolution.Last edited: Feb 5, 2019wavex likes this.

I built the same one at HIDEvolution, and checked places like Best Buy and Newegg, as well as building a theoretical desktop equivalent, and the price I got is exactly what I want! May I ask what you mean by leading the higher prices elsewhere?
-
He meant vs other resellers like GentechPC. Stores like Best Buy and Newegg hardly allow you to spec your system, it is resellers that give you the extra via upgrades, "freebies" like swapping RAM around for dual channel etc.

So basically once you have your configuration, you can compare prices between resellers and most of them will price match. So it sounds like you did your homework just right.

To anyone curious, I got a score of 5475 in Time Spy with my GS65 2060. All I did was open the new box, turn it on, install 3dmard, and run the test. Michael A. Saldana, hmscott and ryzeki like this.

Very nice! According to my comparison chart, you’re beating my overclocked GTX 1070 Max-Q (5053)

I am relieved because a previous user only got 5200. Next I am going to do benchmarks with Assassin's Creed Origins, vs my Alienware 15r4 8750hq 1070 OC (which got a 5650 in Time Spy).

I am hoping that I can overclock the 2060 to get somewhere near the 5650 score my 15r4 1070 OC got.
-

That's what I guessed, I suppose I got confused because I did buy it from GenTech.ryzeki likes this.

Hey! Thanks for running the bench on the 2060. Was looking forward to that one. Is that the combined score or the graphics score alone? Could you also possibly run the firestrike and share the graphics score when possible? Thanks!
-

Just tried Shadow of the Tomb Raider with the new driver and I am getting between 70 and 80 FPS at 3440*1440 on an ultrawide monitor.hmscott likes this.

Man... wtf. Why do I get frame drops....????
Do you have Nvidia Control Panel installed?
 How did you install 418.81?
Are you using DHC or standard drivers?

I just finished a lengthy session of Shadow of the Tomb Raider (471.49 driver). All settings were at the highest possible graphics, 1080P, SMAAT2x anti-aliasing
With my fan settings, no laptop elevation, and the CPU running at max speed with GPU overclocked at +125 core, the max temps I reached were 82c and 75c for the CPU and GPU. I then ran the benchmark tool right away and got 84 FPS average. This laptop is MUCH COOLER than last years model.hmscott, ryzeki, Audiall and 1 other person like this.

I did that test with Ultima, I hit 90c after 20 minutes with my undervolt settings, laptop elevated.

Yeah that's fine. I elevate mine and know it definitely helps .

 Control panel installed.
Geforce experience had issues connecting online, but after I updated to the latest windows (1809) it seems to be working ok now. I updated the driver using Geforce experience.
I am using the standard drivers (intel update assistant for the integrated graphics - I assume that's what you meant?).Last edited: Feb 5, 2019

Combined. I will doublecheck for graphics score alone. I think the CPU was 5200 something. Sure, will do Fire Strike. Would you like anything else?
-
Sorry I've been off the grid it was my birthday, anyone with theirs experience any dead pixels? I've got one stuck green on almost dead center in the display, unnoticeable on white backgrounds but on black it's pretty bad
-

Mine is still in pre production. Glad to see the temps have improved over last years model.
-

Just looking for the Graphics score and combined score of Time Spy and Firestrike. Hopefully, if you could monitor the temps as well, it would be great. Do you have the stock 2060 model or have you gotten it re-pasted with Liquid metal and put in the after market thermal pads like others?

 PS: Thanks for the help!

Edit: Also, if you could take a screenshot of temps after a prolonged game-play of 30 mins or more would be the icing on the cake.Last edited: Feb 5, 2019

out of curiosity is anyone else having a hard time installing the latest graphics driver?

The NVIDIA, only was able to update though NVIDIA website. GeForce experience did not work for me.
