I’m finishing up my review on it using Microsoft word and Wix. Glancing at the battery, I’m at 63% with 5 hours fifteen minutes left.
Calculating that, I’m a little over 8 hours in total battery.
MSI’s claims are true BUT you have to be doing specific tasks to achieve it.

CPU is exactly the same and RTX TGP is similar so possibly 5 to 6hour realistically with 8 hours tweaked.

Does all these new GS65 come with 2600 MHz RAM?

Yes. All of them come with 2666. Mine came with Kingston

Glad to see those temps! Looking forward to your complete review of the GS65 with the RTX 2060 model cause thats the model I'm interested in as well!oneintheblack likes this.

Is the BFV/Anthem promo valid for these? Maybe it isn't at HIDEvolution because all it said was COD was free (which I already have). Is there a way to see if we quality?
-

I asked Donald and he’ll check on it next week.
The MSI and Nvidia promo is that RTX 2060 or 2070 laptops get one of those games. 2080s get both.
I’d be bummed if we didn’t qualify.

These temperatures look fantastic but I would want to temper everyone's expectations since these are being done during winter and possibly pretty low ambient temperatures.
-

My numbers were done in November (GS65 2018, 1070 MQ) and February (GS65 2019, 2080 MQ) - so all things are equal there and my house is always around 68-72, anyway.
-
So I don't have the paid version of 3DMark but the free one lets you run TimeSpy here's the score I got from that.

Also I forgot to have HWinfo run in the background but MSI Afterburner says CPU peaked at 86 degrees celsuis and GPU was peaking at 74 degrees. I don't know why it was saying validation warning but I've never really used TimeSpy before either.ryzeki and Thysanoptera like this.

Very nice. My GS65 1070 MQ score was 5,034. Nice bump for the 2060.Michael A. Saldana likes this.

 Sounds good!

Is this at a resolution of 2560X1440?
Asking as I was trying to compare the score with the 1070 MQ and 1070 and both those on notebookcheck show resolution of 2560X1440
-
I just clicked run, but I would bet since my panel is 1080p that it would run at 1080p
-
TimeSpy is always rendered at 2560x1440, doesn't matter what resolution is your screen set to.Michael A. Saldana and sk3tch like this.

This is great news . .

Any way we can compare the noise? Does it sound quieter or same as the 2018 model while it's giving these much better performance/temp results? Any coil whine?

And I know it won't have full wattage, but can we try running the benchmark while on battery and see how much of a performance hit that is? One run at near 100% batt and another at 30% with whatever Dragon Control settings set to max perf should give us the curve and us know just what performance we can expect if we ever needed to game away from an outlet for an hour or two.

 Thanks very much,
 Peter

PS Please include in each post which model RTX you have and the ambient temps. It's getting hard to keep them all straight - thanks ) )

Can You check the FireStrike? As I remember the basic FS test is also available in free version.
-
@sk3tch & @Michael A. Saldana - could you guys also run cinebench multi CPU to see if there are improvements on CPU front?
-

Would also be interested however I wouldnt expect much change since its the same cpu as the previous model.
-
But there are two extra heat pipes (if you believe the marketing materials), there is a chance CPU could maintain higher clocks than before.
-
So I didn't have the previous generation of the GS65 but I can tell you compared to my previous Razer Blade 15 it's definitely quieter. However I'm also not sure about how much air it moves but the temps seem to be great. I can run more on battery tests a little bit later today.

I certainly could as well, again it'll have to be a bit later today probably around 4-5 MST.

Sure thing! I think it'll be much the same as other i7-8750H laptops though even if the heatpipes help a bit

 Here's a comparison with teardown and performance numbers for the 2018 GS65 w/ 1070 Max-Q vs my 2019 GS65

In the table, your cinebench number is exactly the same stock/undervolt - typo or for real?

 Nice job on the review!
-

 Thanks!
 And nope, it’s real.
Before undervolting, I hit 1250 but additional runs dropped the score to 1200ish.
With undervolt, I actually fluctuate between 1240-1255.

For me, undervolting stabilized performance and scores instead of increasing scores.

That’s a legit review. Thank you for your hard work. What is the reason for opting to use standalone apps (ie. fan control) and removing Dragon Center?JRey likes this.

It looks like you like the new trackpad position due to the symmetry, but was wondering if you have any issues with typing large amounts with the trackpad centered to the screen?
-

I'm about the order a new GS65 (2080 Max-Q) from GentechPC.com, but I want to use my existing drives. I have one M.2 PCIe NVMe drive, and one SATA SSD. I want to have the OS on the M.2 (probably games installed on the SATA).
 My questions:
 1. Is the new GS65 able to accommodate BOTH my drives?
 2. If the answer to #1 is "YES", is the optimum configuration OS (i.e. Windows 10) on the M.2 NVMe and games/steam/whatever on the SATA SSD? Or keep the OS and games on the same drive?

 Thanks everyone!ryzeki likes this.

In my short time with the laptop, I haven’t had issues. I tend to rest my hands on the pinky side so I clear the trackpad.
When I did touch the trackpad, I didn’t get any misclicks. For me, it’s fine.

Dragon Center doesn’t have as much control as standalone apps. For example, you can’t set a custom fan curve at various speeds depending on temperature.
Also, I didn’t want any conflicts between dragon center and throttlestop.

Your Sata SSD won’t be usable. It only accepts 2 m.2 drives.
Also, I’d be very careful taking the laptop apart. It’s not as easy as popping the cover off and installing new components.
Here’s a video showing the teardown.

It’s the same for this years model except for the trackpad. But, it’s the same instructions.

I guess he meant m.2 SATA, the second port accepts it, the first is NVMe only. That’s what I want to do to save on power consumption, about 1W in idle but still, NVMe in first slot and SATA in second. What drive(s) do you have in it?
-

I meant this: don't know if it's SATA or M.2 SATA, but GentechPC would install the drives for me, if they're compatible. Attached Files:

Definitely no. Wrong form factor. Almost no laptops take that size, anymore.
-

No, this won't fit. That's a regular 2.5 inch sata drive. The laptop will only accept m.2 size drives.
-

 Thanks Michael!

I know it won't have full wattage, but can you try running the benchmark again while on battery and see how much of a performance hit that is? One run at near 100% battery and another at 30% (since voltage drop would limit total wattage available) with whatever Dragon Control settings set to max perf should give us the curve and us know just what performance we can expect if we ever needed to game away from an outlet for an hour or two.

Looks like it's just a touch larger.

How about it's thickness? From this angle it looks a fair bit thicker.
-
Weird, 180W PS for 85W GPU and 230W PS for 80W GPU. Did you run into any power issues with the old one, was it tapping into battery when stressed?

 Here's another angle:

 ![[IMG]](images/storyImages/gs65_2080_vs_1070_psu2.jpg)

I think they upgraded to 230W to address issues from last year. I didn't have any overt issues, myself.Thysanoptera and seanwee like this.

Does anyone know if the new RTX models are shipping with single or dual channel RAM?

I know HIDEvolution has single channel as the default, but my 2018 GS65 8RF came with dual channel. I don't know if this was just a model for Best Buy though.

I think I'm going to buy a base model 2070MQ and throw my own NVMEs in it, since my research seems to point to no void in the warranty as long as I don't break anything inside.
-

It depends on the SKU. It seems this year they were a bit smarter and they don't just default to 32GB RAM and 512GB SSD+ in the "higher end" models - so yeah, single 16GB stick and a 256GB NVME is default (at least for RTX 2080 MQ model from HIDEvolution).

With the improvements that they made this year, I would say buying from a retailer like Best Buy makes more sense than ever. All the custom TIM and pads, etc. are not as necessary.Audiall likes this.

I was wondering if anybody could make this easier for me to understand: in a previous posting, somebody got a 5200 in time spy with their gs65 2060, but if you go to this link i am attaching, they get a score closer to 6000 with a laptop 2060

 https://www.notebookcheck.net/GeFor...Force-RTX-2060-Laptop_9631_9581.247598.0.html

You have to look at the details - in this case, the CPU is different. The laptop with that mobile 2060 is a Schenker XMG Ultra 15. It has a 9700K which is a desktop CPU, so it obliterates the 8750H mobile CPU that we have in the GS65.
-

-

On GentechPC, the default is 1 stick of 16GB RAM (for the GS65 2080 Max-Q). The awesome thing about GentechPC is that: They offer free upgrade to dual channel RAM (2x 8GB), free upgrade to thermal paste of your choice, free upgrade of thermal pads (Fujipoly extreme). Also, Ken from GentechPC PC said I can send them my existing M.2 NVMe SSD and they'll format it/install Windows and the drivers at no cost, so I don't have to buy a new SSD. Best deal out there currently.

 Ahhh
Ahhh ok. Makes much more sense. Still trying to figure out if i should downgrade my alienware 15r4 for a smaller form factor. If i get the 1070 max q gs65 it would be an even swap in terms of money, but getting a gs65 2060 is an extra thousand.

My 2060 gs65 should be in on tuesday so i will probably know by then if i should get the gs65 with a 1070 max q, if the current cpu included will bottleneck the 2060.

Already with games like assassins creed origins, the cpu bottlenecks my 15r4 1070 with literally everything gpu based maxed, so maybe a max q 1070 is ok. Assassins creed origins is an extreme example though with cpu usage.ryzeki likes this.

Wow, that really seems like the best deal for sure. Only other thing I'm considering is the Best Buy deal of the 2060 with a 512gb M.2 for only $1999USD
