If I have a tweaked BIOS (undervolting)... do I have to reset that beforce updating EC?
-
Finally got my machine earlier this week. Wow, this thing is awesome! I'll be giving this thing a real whirl this weekend, but so far it runs super smoothly. The only caveat is that the fans are a bit loud. I'm still fiddling with lots of the settings to see how the video card manages different programs, right now when I alt-tab out of games the desktop becomes unusually bright. Oh, and I also changed my background for windows and MS installed the same background on my other computer! I guess the MS account syncs all your computers? That seems a rather odd setting to default to, I'll have to do some research on how to change that.Atma likes this.
-
There is indeed a setting for microsoft that syncs your machine. If you are using the same windows account across devices you might have enabled it, or maybe microsoft enabled it automatically, but you can certainly disable it, no worries.
-
I didn't and had no issues. Haven't gone into the bios to see if the settings were reset though.

What software should we be using for the killer wifi card? Is it killer network control center and killer network drivers? Do we need both of them? Or is Intel proset wireless enough? I am not sure.

Did you notice any improvements, specially in noise level?

My local Microcenter has the 2080 model with 32GB and 2x512GB SSD on sale down from $2749 to $2399.
The temptation is real.Atma likes this. -
Well, I've stuck a second 16 GB stick in there for 32 GB total in dual channel and... that absolutely was the problem. It blows my mind that the system ships with a 25-35% performance nerf. My framerates are where they should be and I'm loving it.
If you buy a GE75 Raider with a single stick of RAM, you will get 25-35% less performance than your system is capable of. Buy a second stick for dual-channel operation IMMEDIATELY.
Thanks for your help, Jalen9762. You saved me!thefatapple, ryzeki and Atma like this. -
amazing price.. go for it

I just want to say it is worth the extra money for getting it customized from a retailer with liquid metal and fuji ploy pads. Just something to think about.

I haven't noticed anything, but, I usually do wear a headset when I game.

Hi guys, I realized this is the only laptop I want but I'm struggling choosing between the 1060 version at 1500€ and the rtx 2070 for 2129€ (with 500gb ssd) here in Italy.
I play CsGo but I'd like to play the new Tomb Raider, Assassin's creed Odyssey, other fps titles and new AAA games like Anthem, atleast on med-high details for quite some time.
I don't know if those extra 600 euro would rly make a difference...what do you think? -
I think u'll get way more fps/better graphical settings with the 2070 versionLast edited: Apr 8, 2019
-
It is a big difference, of around 50% or so. The RTX 2070 full is like a GTX1080 or so, which is considerably stronger than a GTX1060. It will depend on the game, some will have lower gains, some will have more, but it really is a big difference in hardware.Failwyn likes this.

Why is Clevo the only manufacturer using MUX?

You only need to install the Killer Control Center. The drivers are there for a driver-only install.
Try clean installing to the latest version of the Killer Control Center by following this guide - https://support.killernetworking.com/knowledge-base/clean-install-killer-control-center/.
If that doesn't resolve the issue for you, please reach out to us directly by filling out the form here - http://support.killernetworking.com/submit-a-ticket/ - which will also allow you to submit a diagnostic.

I'm seriously considering getting the 2080 version of this either the 17 inch or 15 inch version. How portable is this machine? I know its not a titan but I will be taking it with me places maybe once a week.

Hey,
Ive had a couple black screen of deaths recently too often and struggling to find out how to go on about this. During last seven days 6 times to be exact. It happens like out of nowhere, even when just browsing the internet and not putting laptop under the load. I have GE75 Raider Rtx 2070 model. All the latest drivers and latest bios version flashed which came out this month.
Was thinking maybe I could figure it out by trying to pinpoint root cause by checking the windows event viewer, but still don't find the root cause because after checking from there it seems that it only is aware that computer was not shut down properly. Power cord has been always plugged in when it has happened, screen is 100% black and steelseries rgb is responsive but nothing else works, hdd led not showing any signs of usage either while happened. Any ideas, anybody else has experienced a similar issue? Can this be linked to Throttlestop issues or much worse, perhaps PSU issue?
Help is much appreciated guys

I carry mine in a backpack to and from work every day, it's far lighter and thinner than my old Sager; The laptop itself is under 6 pounds, carrying it in a backpack is very easy.
-
I was getting a lot of blue screen crashes with Event ID 41 Kernel Power as well, I figured out that they started right after I installed the Netflix windows app; they stopped as soon as I uninstalled it... Are there any applications that you installed around the time you started noticing the crashes?kleptomaniak668 likes this.

Thanks, I'm going with the raider as the other stealth and stealth thin have gimped graphics cards. Is there any diff between the GE75 Raider and the MSI GE63 raider besides screen size?
-
I would assume the GE75 has a decent amount more cooling ability than the GE63; more heat in a smaller space...kleptomaniak668 likes this.
-
Having seen them both at MicroCenter, the difference in size is minimal. The GE63 is basically an old school 15.6” machine with a big bezel. The GE75 has a narrow bezel and fits its 17” screen into a chassis that looks sleeker and more modern without being much bigger at all.
Look up the physical dimensions of the machines. The 75 is basically the 63 with less bezel and more screen, plus a dramatically better trackpad If that matters to you at all.kleptomaniak668 and Failwyn like this. -
You make a valid point, I'll get the 17 inch with everything I want added such as thermal paste job, 2x16 gb ram, two Samsung 970 EVO PLUS 1TB M.2 PCIe 3.0 x4 NVMe 3D-VNAND, and the 2080 model I'm within my budget.
-
63 does have better cooling and some reaaaally slick RGB on the lid, though.
-
Sounds like a normal symptom of an undervolt being too low. The system usually will crash at peak load or at idle.
-
Downloaded the MSI Afterburner v 4.6.0 and while Im able to get a curve setting after running the scan.. I unable to change core voltage/power limit/temp limit? I have a GE75 with a 2080.. any ideas? (Yes I did check the "Unlock voltage control / Unlock voltage monitoring"
Using Geforce RTX Driver version 4.19.67 (If this matters)
Edit: I read someone else posted in this forum saying it was locked for our cards.. so nevermind on that question.Last edited: Apr 11, 2019 -
Thanks for the reply guys, I think bsod is due to throttlestop and especially in idle speed while undervolted.
Here's a picture of factory paste job on mine. Cpu looks bit overpasted and gpu also, some parts of main chip and other memory components are not properly covered with paste:
Could somebody please help to clarify if krizzly kryonaut is OK to use for memory and other pasted components around gpu or could I use 0.5 or 1.0mm thermal pads(which one) on top of those after cleaning old blue paste off? Didn't expect to find so thick layer of compound around gpu components, thought they use pads thereLast edited: Apr 11, 2019 -
I ran into this problem last night; if you right click on the desktop and click NVidia Control Panel, then click the "Desktop" menu, there is an option "Display GPU Activity Icon in Notification Area" once you click it, if you click on that icon, it will display a list of all the applications that are using the NVidia GPU; for me, steamwebhelper.exe was using it, as soon as I terminated the process, the light turned white.
-
Has anyone calibrated the screen? How bad was it out of the box?
-
Anyone getting a constant yellow EDP Other warning under Ring? Using wholeham / falkentyne BIOS tweaks. Is it normal? Happens both at idle and while running something like a game
-
What are you guys seeing on idle (or browsing internet) CPU temp / CPU RPM's. Im sitting at 48C average 2400RPM
-
Does anybody have any experience running linux on this?
-
Specifically I'm interested in fan noise and heat. In my experience, certain systems require a lot of software (windows only) to make them not run hot and loud.
-
I am not getting any errors -
Since this laptop does not have Gsync, can I hook it up to a Gsync external monitor and have the external monitor use Gsync while being powered by the laptop 2080 GPU? Does it depend on if the monitor is hooked up through HDMI or a display port?
I keep finding conflicting information on this topic. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks!Last edited: Apr 12, 2019 -
Yes you can, it does require being connected via DP for G-sync or Freesync to work.
Once it's connected make sure to check in the Nvidia control panel under 3d (I believe that's where it is) that G-sync is enabled.Kilador likes this. -

What setting are you using for under volting and GPU overclocks?
-
Thanks for the advice. I have several programs using the NVidia GPU. Windows lock screen seems to be doing it as soon as I start the machine. Is this normal? Should I get rid of all the programs using NVidia GPU in order to make Optimus work?
-
undervolt running -125 on both core cpu and cache and a 112 on gpu and then on afterburner running +88 and +1000
you can push it much more but not to where its stable imo. Every machine is different so its more or less trial and error -
Thank you for all the info in this thread. I actually couldn't figure out how to pm you..
I wanted to ask about the AC/DC Loadline setting, which you recommended to edit from 180 to 5. I was wondering if this number is specific to ge75? Why don't we set it lower, like 1?
Also, another general question is Intel DPTF, which is turned off by default on the ge75. I saw a recommendation to turn it on in another thread, and I did see higher scores on my benchmarks after doing so. But I don't actually understand what it does. Would anyone be able to clarify? -
-
I read through this entire thread, and didn't see a discussion on the audio software for this laptop.
I realized after fiddling with all the software that I have both nahimic and realtek audio control software which have major overlap in their functionality. I don't know which software is the dominant one but I surely don't need both?
My audio drivers are the nahimic ones, but do you guys have any recommendation on how to handle audio? delete or disable one or both software? -
I got rid of nahimic and I suggest you do the same. It adds effects to playback, such as compression and eq. Those just ruin the sound and make tracks, especially the low frequencies, pump unpleasantly. Not to mention if you're doing audio work like mixing, these effects are a big no. Sound effects on games sound a bit more punchy but that's just not worth it.Doc Fox likes this.

What is the stock memory model in the GE75 with RTX2080? Is it dual channel?
I wonder whether it's worthwile to buy the 2666MHz 15-17-17 HyperX kit in either 16 or 32GB (probably 32GB since prices dropped so hard recently).
What about the 2400 14-14-14? -
It differs from model to model, but most ge75 comes with a single 2666 mHz 16GB stick equipped. If you buy the 32GB option it is dual channel 2x16GB. As far as the model of ram, there seems to be a couple different ones.
I bought mine from the store with 2x8GB sticks as the laptop was shipped to my country with that config, however you can order it from other sites who will let you customize your order with 2x8GB sticks, most of the time for a fee.
As far as upgrading the ram, you can usually customize ram on those custom laptop retailers like HIDevolution, or if you buy the 16gb stock single stick, you can order compatible ram from retailers like crucial. -
Sadly I have no option to buy a customized version in Europe, this is the one I'm planning to grab: 8SG-009NL
The shop claims it has 2x8GB on board.
How does MSI look at memory upgrades, do I have to put the original stick back in for warranty? Otherwise I'd probably sell it off. -
FYI, there is a new BIOS update with not much in the changelog:
