Thanks for the tip Ken and also checking on the e-sata RAID question you helped me with.
Do you know if the GT70 0NE model is affected by the microphone issue also?

I wish I had not been is such a rush to get this thing, I would have gone with you guys. -

Ken,
I assume this effects the 1762 barebones?
You just shipped my unit on Wednesday do you check for and fix that if its a problem or do I need to check that myself. Just curious.
Thanks,

How on earth are you guy's updating your BIOSes? I used the MSI tool for making a bootable USB drive, but the BIOS on my GT70 doesn't have a USB drive option for booting. ?

The MSI tool for making a flash boot USB drive doesn't work. I've succeeded in making a usb boot with HPFlash. However, the afudos doesn't work. It gives an EMM386 error then locks up. This is really annoying...Please help.

Has anyone installed the latest Beta Legacy drivers for the 670m? Is it just a case of installing a new Driver and it'll work?
-
Hi, I'm having trouble with my card reader. Whenever I put an SDHC card in it, the entire computer locks up, and won't unfreeze untill I remove the card. Wondering if anyone else has this issue and has a solution.

Hi Guys, I need some help I have the (MSI GT70 ONC 008US) i'm planning on upgrading to ssd samsung 830. How can I transfer everything including the recovery partition on the SSD drive? And will the F3 recovery still work afterwards?
-
Yep tried reinstalling drivers and no luck, upon further inspection seems to only happen to cards which have been formatted in my Canon DSLR, but don't know why that would cause this issue

Ken,
My unit had the plastic cover over the microphone, removed it with no problems though. Really liking the machine so far.
I do have an issue with the Touchpad. I installed the Synaptics driver, it installs and the pad works but there is no scroll functions on the pad. Per our phone conversation please advise if you find that is an issue with another unit.
Thanks. -
New Beta Drivers for the GTX 670m, Ver. 302.75 on MSI's Driver page!

Downloading it now. -
Did anyone figure out if the 0NC has the microphone issue. No idea how to open that up and fix it if i do -
The microphone issue is the presence of a piece of plastic between the microphone and the holes in the LCD bezel for the mics. This piece of plastic would be present in every sub-model of the GT70. Concerning the difference between these sub-models, the naming scheme for the MSI GT70 is as follows:
GT70 0NC-xxx = nvidia GTX 670M GPU
GT70 0ND-xxx = nvidia GTX 675M GPU
GT70 0NE-xxx = nvidia GTX 680M GPU
The actual factory loadout (RAM, HD config, Super-RAID, etc.) is determined by the last number set, but does not change the essential platform.
So, between the 0NC, the 0ND and the 0NE the only difference is in the GPU, which meens this:
The "Mic Issue" exists on all GT70's unless previously removed. -
Also, the latest Driver from nvidia keeps the Nvidia GPU on, it NEVER switches back to the intel. -
It would take a small, flathead screwdriver to remove the little rubber stomps at the bottom left and bottom right of the LCD and a #1 Philips screwdriver to remove the screws. You will also need either a letter opener or butter knife something along those lines to remove the bezel around the LCD display.
After that, determine what is obstructing the microphone and gently remove it. -

Hey all,
Just ordered my GT 70 0ND-219US from Newegg, came with a free Xbox, not too bad. Price was competitive, included $100 off, $100 rebate also. Quick shipping (here by Monday, I fly out on Tuesday so it was necessary, otherwise Gentechpc would've gotten the business TBH!)
All the positive posts on this forum helped sway my decision, so thank you folks for informing the silent crowd here.
Needless to say I'm drooling on the mailbox, and the neighbors are growing concerned.
I did have a few questions:
I bought an SSD for the OS, gonna do a clean install, update drivers, remove bloatware (if any), and get down to business.
Is there anything I'm missing in that process? First time setting up a new rig in almost a decade!
1.5 TB HD in RAID...I live in an area subject to frequent power loss (crazy thunderstorms almost everyday).
I admittedly don't know much about the technology, but as far as the cursory research I've done indicates, you can expect performance increases, but also possibly suffer catastrophic data loss.
That doesn't sound like much fun to me; should I shut the RAID array off and use the drives independently?
I have the SSD for quick boot time, and to use a few of my more heavily played games...and I could eventually use 1.5 TB I'm sure.
I realize this is subjective, but I'd appreciate some of your thoughts on this!
Finally, will the 675m nvidia card output to 2560x1440 over HDMI 1.4?
I was checking out some Korean specials on Amazon, the 27inch models, some of which contain HDMI 1.4 ports. The seller is quick to note that 2560x1440 output over HDMI 1.4 may or may not be supported by your specific video card, and goes on further to state that mostly desktops with dual-dvi outputs are supported.
Is the HDMI 1.4 output through the onboard GPU? Or the 675m?
Will this machine hit 2560x1440 on an external display using the 675m?
Thank you, I've searched and searched for a resolution to this question and all I've gotten is conflicting information.
Thank you folks, any guidance and advice, as always, is appreciated. -
Hey Guys,
Need a little advice. I just purchased and recieved a GT70 OND-204US today. Booted it up and everything seemed fine. But i notice that on the desktop screen there is a thin white line going down the left side of screen where mouse pointer stops at. But when i take mouse pointer all the way to the right it dissapears a little off the screen. I also noticed a hair line scratch or stress crack possibly right under the power button left side of power button. Dont know if its a scratch or what it is. Also when i push the N key on keyboard i notice a slight gummy sound like a little glue from sticker maybe? Also when i got it. It had the white microfiber cloth over the screen. It seemed as if it were used maybe? I dont know if this is how they come? It did have a sticker around keys and bezel. I havent updated drivers or anything yet. Only did some windows updates. Power buttons constantly white. Im assuming its because im on Intel Gpu? Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. I picked this thing up from New Egg. Need someones opinion. Thanks. -

Quick question. I'm running a 17625-025, which I believe is the gt70 barebone. I noticed my power button is always orange. I can be plugged in, unplugged, sitting at desktop or playing a game. It only flashes white during boot.
Dies that mean my Optimus isn't working correctly? I read somewhere that the light is a visual indicator of which video card is being used. -
Hey guys, I'm leaning pretty heavily towards purchasing a barebone GT60 (16F3) right now, but the only thing holding me back right now is upgradeability. How hard is it to change the GPU in this as opposed to a Sager, I think an upgrade will probably be required 2-4 years down the line, and I don't want to have to buy another laptop. I read a post from an MSI mod on their forums that there is no way to upgrade your GPU on MSI laptops.

Don't know if any of this matters but,
675 drivers - 9.18.13.602
4000 drivers - 8.15.10.2778
Bios Version - E1762IG6.308 -
Thinking of getting an MSI laptop, I just have one question.
How do you factory restore this laptop? -
New member of the GT70 0ND club here too! I must have read at least 250 pages of Clevo/Sager/MSI threads when I pulled the trigger on a great deal for the MSI GT70 0ND-202US. It seems like the right blend of price/performance (or will be once I install the 256gb SSD boot drive). Since I already have a decent desktop unit and this will replace a 4 year old HP HDX 18 laptop (with GT9600m lol) I hope it will suit my needs for a while. Thanks for all who contributed to this massive thread of helpful information.
Waiting patiently for UPS..... -
Hello, I'm new and glad I found you guys. I've already found answers to my questions about the built in mic and the power button color. I assumed orange meant high powered card vs the INTEL. I was right. I have two problems. I've downloaded driver updates for sound and lost the ability to use the THX customizations... reverted to factory and was fine but I want to update drivers so any suggestions would be GREAT.. Also I had installed the new driver from NVIDIA and had some choppy problems and revertred to the 295.XX it shipped with (I have a GT70) and It's fairly ok again. Has anone tried the MSI release of the beta driver or am I going to have to "try and pray"?
Yes, I only play WoW... make fun. -

Hey everyone, wish I was coming here under better circumstances ... Ordered the GT70 OND model last week Wednesday from newegg. Checked their site today, they now offer it for $100 off AND free (cost me $20) in shipping. Lame. Anyway, on top of that I had been having firefox crashes frequently the past few days and an hour ago a wonderful BSOD popped up stating MEMORY MANAGEMENT as the error. Threw in memtest x86 into the dvd drive and began to run it. Little surprise when seconds later red started flying all over the screen, memory failures everywhere. Wonderful, first laptop I've ever purchased (im a PC desktop builder traditionally) and this crap happens. Sorry to say but I am less than impressed with my experience so far. I guess my question to everyone here is what do I do next, as a PC builder I would just RMA the ram and get a separate temp set from the store to use while I waited. As it stands I have a feeling I will be required to pay high shipping prices to RMA the whole dang thing to MSI and then wait 4+ weeks to have it fixed. Am i far off base on that idea?
Really sucks because I bought the laptop explicitly because I was diagnosed 2 weeks ago with Stage IV cancer and its impossible to sit in a chair anymore due to pain and I will be in and out of the hospital for what is likely the remainder of my life, and lugging a huge desktop into a hospital isn't really practical or possible ... now it appears I'll be in the hospital twiddling my thumbs as well ...
I guess I am posting on here out of sheer desperation that perhaps there is something I can do besides throw away more money on shipping to wait for archaicly slow RMA for a product I purchased less than 7 days ago.
Also does anyone have the site or a phone number where I could start the RMA process if that is my only option.
UGggggggggggggggggggg and thank you everyone for your time. Its been fun reading all the cool things you can do with this laptop in this thread from video card upgrades to all sorts of case mods etc... too bad it looks like I may have to wait. Once again ... thanks. -

Hi all. Just purchased GT70 in Australia without having seen one prior but on referral from informed friend. Supplier did a format & clean install of Win 7 Pro for me. The first thing I noticed on boot up was that the screen looked like it still had a protective sheet on it. All a bit furry and looked dusty. Is this a side effect of the MSI matte screen process? Possibly not a problem when gaming but as soon as I am looking at docs or anything with solid colour background it is very distracting.

Well my GT70 0ND arrived today and out of the box everything seems to be great. In reading the past 115 pages of everyone else's sometimes bad experiences I was a little worried, especially about the keyboard but it all looks and works ok. Only had it out of the box for an hour so all hell can still break loose but so far so good.
I saw something recent post about S-bar 2.0 - the installed S-Bar I have is dated April 25, 2012 and the 2.0 file on MSI site is dated 4/20/2012...can I assume I have 2.0? I tried to find a version on my installed one but I must not know where to look.
Now Ive just got to install my OCZ 240GB SSD as a boot drive and this thing will be smoking! Cant wait to try some games...
Sorry to hear you are having the blues Coldfire Trilogy - memory is obviously pretty cheap but the whole principle sucks. Quality control aint what it used to be but hopefully you will be taken care of. I also bought mine from them so I'm interested to see how they follow up on this. -

How is the build quality of the GT60 compared to, say, a Clevo?
-
Throwing out my two cents about the GT60 0ne-220 US with GTX 680m . I just bought one, and have had it for a few days now. Overall I'm happy with it, enough that I won't send it back, but it has a few major problems. I couldn't find any info on any of this stuff before I bought it, so I'm going to write it down here in the hope that others won't be caught by surprise
1) The MSI GT60 can only drive TWO monitors at a time. It CANNOT drive multiple monitors. You can use the built in display + 1 external display, OR two external displays at once. I'm extremely disappointed with this.. I guess the GTX 680m can drive 3+ monitors, but the crappy integrated graphics card is in between the GTX 680 and the physical outputs, and it can only drive two at a time.
2) The SteelSeries keyboard has a pretty crappy feel to it. It feels cheap, and is very noisy. Some people might prefer this feel to other keyboards, though, so I recommend you try out one in person first if you can.
3) Key layout - Man, I probably wouldn't have bought this laptop if I'd actually looked at the keyboard carefully. I use the left windows key all the time, but there's only a right windows key on this keyboard. Also, the HOME and END keys require that you press the "Fn" key to use them. It's a constant source of frustration for me..
4) No linux support - The physical ethernet port doesn't have an open source driver available. There's NO support for the weird hybrid graphics, so you're going to be stuck playing games with the integrated graphics. Thankfully, most of the laptop is generic enough that wifi, semi-accelerated integrated graphics, USB, etc work out of the box with Ubuntu 12.
There's a workaround to shoehorn a different ethernet card's driver into your system, which seems to work well enough for this card: [SOLVED] Qualcomm Atheros Bigfoot Killer E2200 Ethernet working in linux - Ubuntu Forums
Pros:
1) Can't argue with the price, for the very top of the line graphics card + CPU + 12 GB of RAM. I paid $1900 on Newegg
2) The laptop feels pretty sturdy to me. It also runs relatively cool, or at least I haven't gotten burned on it yet
3) There's space for two hard drives, so you can buy a separate SSD, move the included 750 GB drive to the secondary bay, and install Windows on the SSD. -
