Have you tried removing one stick at a time? Maybe it's only one bad stick and you could run on the other two until you get the replacement. I think that there are two slot under the keyboard two that can be accessed by removing the same panel that is use to access the hard drives. When i put a SSD in min it appeared that the single dimm was next to the HDDs, this could easily be removed to try it. I'm a bit of an armature when it comes to working on laptops but it would be worth a shot.

I don't know if my laptop is different or not but whenever my num lock is off, the end and home keys work without having the fn key pressed. I have a GT60 with the 670m, but that shouldn't matter.

    Hi All,

Getting ready to risk divorce court and order up an GT70 0NE-276US. Other than the typical bloat ware and a couple of DOA's any major issues? Looking to run Lightroom/Photoshop, WoW, Diablo and GuildWars 2. Thx!

Hey guys I have a story.

It has been a few weeks since I received my GT70 back from my retailer because of a faulty screen (dead pixel issues).
I am now noticing others quirks my laptop shows me.
First I must note the startup time is a little longer than average, however it doesn't bother me all that much, I can deal with it.
The laptop gets noticably clunky, and not rarely either. It seems that I can be guaranteed, whenever I turn on the laptop, it will revert into a clunky and nearly non functional state. Where it runs very slow for example when I am in a browser sometimes if I open more than one tab it wont load anything or it just sometimes wont load just one, or when I open a game up or when I load a map within a game it will just stop loading and stick to that screen, it wont say it isn't responding just stay on that screen, I will either eventually get kicked or have to close down the game and try again. I bought this machine so I would not have to drag my desktop rig to LANs and I will be able to work on it from wherever in the house. Although I am being pushed further and further into discomfort with this machine as I use it more. I spent 1800 AUD on it and am deeply considering asking if I can get my money back. For the specs it has inside I expected a little more, however I am honestly left disappointed. I did not expect it to run faster than my desktop rig however I would at least have liked it to be a little less stressful and a pain to own a laptop of this caliber. Oh and also to top it off I have now discovered another pixel issue, it is stuck, a light blue sort of color and I have chosen to ignore it for I no longer give a poop as far as pixels go. If I am going to send it away, it is going to be for good with money back in my hand. I don't really know what else to say, reading over it it seems that my problems are minor but it is getting really annoying having to restart my machine almost every time I use it so then it can reset itself so it runs smoothly again.

Basically I need your help, is there anything I can do that will (I mean set and stone) increase performance in terms of it not running so dodgy like (A fresh install of OS/Drivers, an SSD to speed things up (could I put in an SSD because of the warranty sticker I thought I may not be able to)).
Am I simply just overlooking something, are there drivers I may have missed or is there something I can change about it so that it runs more reliably and smoother?

I am overall just puzzled, am I asking to much to want to turn on my laptop, open teamspeak/wow/a browser so that i can talk to my friends play games and go on facebook and such. I just wanted a nice zippy machine and from what I have heard GT70's were the way to go at a nice price point however it is proving my thoughts incorrect. Thank you for your time.

A SSD will dramatically increase your boot-up time and map loading. As far as your browser problem, also possibly due to your HDD or maybe a memory problem.

Maybe run HDtune Pro and Memtest86 or any other diagnostic programs

    Cheers for the speedy reply.
So I gather that it is an option to put in an SSD without voiding the warranty of the machine? If so then heck yes I would gladly put one in. I will run the memtest and such in a bit, thank you for your help :)

I'm not sure about the warranty. I would assume you could install a SSD with no ramifications, but I honestly don't know. You'll have to search your documentation or call a sales/tech rep from wherever you bought it from.

BTW once you go SSD, you'll never go back.

Haha, yeah I have already made the switch to an SSD on my desktop and don't think I would be able to have a PC without one again :p but for m laptop I thought it would suffice without one. Right now I am using the laptop and none of the problems I have sated are in effect at the moment (this would happen :p). However I am only on chrome so I guess it can put up with it. Ahh well I will most likely call the help desk later on today and see about the warranty, fingers crossed the warranty wont be void if I install an SSD.
Thank you for your time, I really appreciate it. :D

Concerning the Warranty sticker, as I have viewed this forum, XoticPC's forum, and several others, as wells as reading customer reviews, that particular sticker is to deter the unknowledgable user from causing a computer catastrophe. The warranty is NOT void unless you are the cause of internal damage. The sticker is not binding. Not: some retailers may refuse to accept a return if the sticker is tampered with, simply to avoid doing extra work. Retailers who actually know about this will just RMA it with MSI... Anyways, you are safe in opening the laptop to access "User Servicable Parts", hence the name :)

Try to download some Linux livecd like Ubuntu etc. and see if the problem still exist. This will help you to know if the problem is in the hardware or if it's just windows problem, it can be a virus also.

    Good morning all!

I recently bought a GT60-0NE and last night the computer crashed while playing GW2. I'm 99.9999% sure its a driver issue with NVIDIA (BSOD mentioned nvidia kernel).

I've been trying to install the drivers ever since and I keep getting the following messages:

"NVIDIA Display settings are not available"

"You are not currently using a display attached to an NVIDIA GPU"

And if I look up the adapter in the device manager, it's either disaplyed as "Standard VGA Graphics Adapter" with the following message:

"This device cannot find enough free resources that it can use. (Code 12)"
"If you want to use this device, you will need to disable one of the other devices on this system"

If its listed as NVDIA GTX 680M, it'll display:
"Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems"

Any help would be appreciated. I reinstalled windows because I modified my RAID0 setup, so maybe I installed the drivers improperly, I don't know.

    Thanks in advance.

My brand new GT70 0NC-008US should be arriving anytime now today :) Shoutout to XoticPC!

I was tempted to call in "sick" from work today, sit out on the porch in the sun and read a book... but my boss would have caught on pretty quick. :(

and drooling on the doorstep might have freaked out the neighbors a bit ;)

    Well,
My GT 70 OND-US219 finally came, and it's a beast.
I'm very happy, but it seems to have an issue.

God I hope it's just software, or maybe some kind of issue related to the keyboard problems.
Anyway, when I boot the computer, the keyboard keeps jumping up to the top of whatever screen I'm on.
For instance, when I try to type this, it keeps hopping back up to the very first space in the paragraph.

Turning off and on num lock a few times seems to resolve the issue upon boot. It randomly shows up, then disappears. Today I locked down the first cause. When I plug in a USB device, it occasionally happens too. Has anyone heard of a similar issue?
This doesn't happen in the BIOS menus, so I'm starting to wonder if it's a driver issue, or Windows...maybe I'm just hoping it doesn't need to be RMA'ed, cause I'm loving it so far.

As far as the people saying the fans are loud, or the sound is poor, or the screen quality....are we using the same model computer?
Best sound I've ever had. Fans are quiet, a little loud with the speed boost, but really no need to use it. Screen is great for a laptop. Best of all, MSI has a great warranty..so if I have to do without a few days, at least I'm in good hands.

Any ideas would be very much appreciated. I need to contact MSI, register, let em know, see what they say as well.
Anyone had an issue similar or heard of anything like this?

Deuzsama, install 306.23 asap. Nvidia finally gave support to the 6xxM series on their Verde thing.

Now you don't have to use beta drivers, let alone drivers from the manufacturer.

    Hi All,

Well I took the dive and order up and MSI GT70 0NE-276US and wow! So far so good. Box game rather beat up but the machine set up without a problem. Only concern I have is the low WEI incdex on video; I'm sure this is due to the HD4000 which is part of the 3rd gen i7 chip. How can I change this to reflect the correct WEI score? Also how can I be sure the Nvidia 680M is being used when game playing and now the HD? Do you disable it or just let it be? Thx!

Wasn't that a little, I don't know, ignorant? Considering 2 posts up I even gave a link to the new Driver on Nvidia's download page :(

Open up the Nvidia Control Panel and go to 'Manage 3D Settings' and change your preferred graphics processor to 'High Performance Nvidia Processor' and click APPLY.

Whenever the light on the power button is orange that means it's using the Nvidia card.

My post is aimed at deuzsama. Yours is not.

No, it's not "ignorant". You're just upset because I actually told someone to install drivers. Plus, I said Nvidia is supporting the 6xxM series from now on. He's going to look at both of our posts anyway.

I installed the 306.23 drivers, but it won't detect the video card.

All I get is a "Standard VGA Graphics Adapter":

This device cannot find enough free resources that it can use. (Code 12)

If you want to use this device, you will need to disable one of the other devices on this system.

    =(

Think re-installing windows might work? I really don't wanna RMA my laptop.

What happens to my customizations (wireless adapter and hard drives)?

I just got my GT-60 a few days ago and noticed that the Autorun function is not working for the DVD drive and any USB input. I tried making sure everything is set to enabled and rules set for Autorun in the control panel, checked several other forums for tip/tricks, disabled my antivirus, searched for any viruses, etc. and just have had no luck getting it to work. Any body else run into this lately? Win7 Home Premium GT60.

If you did a fresh OS install, you must first install the Intel graphics driver, PRIOR to attempting the NVidia driver. Refer to THIS POST for reference. Try removing all graphics drivers and starting over, then reinstall the latest Intel graphics driver, and then the NVidia driver. I hope this helps.

    :)

The AutoRun feature should have been enabled by default, and control of this varies, based on the version of Windows you have. There are a couple of methods for enabling or disabling this feature, and for a better understanding, it's probably good you read, " How to disable the Autorun functionality in Windows".

My hunch is your AutoRun feature was somehow disabled by security or maintenance software you are using...... since having AutoRun 'enabled', is considered by many as a security risk..... whereby malware can be auto-executed.

Perhaps the easiest method to re-enable this feature, is covered in the article I linked above. Simply scroll down and read, " How to disable or enable all Autorun features in Windows 7 and other operating systems". There you will find registry 'fix' patches that will do this for you.

I hope this helps, and good luck.

    :)

Oh I'm sorry,I didn't realize either the GT60 or GT70 came with anything other than a 6xxM series card

I haven't touched PhysX, can't you only select that in games? Or is there a way to disable it?

So if I want to update my nvidia driver you are suggesting I uninstall all of the video drivers first, then reinstall one at a time? Sounds like more work than its worth for me since my GTX675m is working fine with the stock 296.31 driver but I can understand for someone experiencing probs that's probably the best way.

Sorry, but whom are you asking, or whom is suggesting? I am not sure I understand why you feel you need to uninstall all video drivers.

Go to the following link, download, and install the driver. The install setup will guide you through the installation. You should be fine.

Hello All.... First post. Been reading since this thread started (pheww). Just purchased a GT60 from Gentech PC (Thanks Ken). Great little PC. :)

Been playing with my my new Lappy, and decided to to do the WEI (I know, pretty useless) test just to see. Updated the 670m drivers to the 306.23 from nvidia, and set the drop downs in the Nvidia control panel to "High performance nvidia processor". Ran the WEI, but the score turns out to be 6.8?
So then I Bumped up the clocks using Afterburner.. to see if anything would change. Nothing changed...still at 6.8?? The light on the power button was orange the entire time.

    Is this score normal?

    Thoughts?

    Thnx...

Currently loving the 0ND that I bought from newegg. The 675m really surprises me, it keeps up nicely with my desktop which has dual 7950's.

I mean of course is not as powerful, but for a laptop damn

mine has a 6.8 too for the 3d part, I don't trust the WEI for anything.

Had trouble with the 306.23 Drivers. While playing both The Amazing Spider-man and Sleeping Dogs they would constantly crash (And after doing a complete re-install of Sleeping Dogs I've also lost my damn save file) re-installed the 302.75 Driver from MSI's Driver page and SD has been fine so far with zero crashes.

In WEI I get 7.6 for Processor and Memory RAM, 7.3 for Graphics and Gaming Graphics (670M) and 5.9 for Primary HDD.

posted this to the g70 0ne forum, but realised there are other gt60/70's with Super RAID, so I'll pose this to this thread as well:

Hi guys, has anyone tried to update the Intel Rapid Storage drivers to 11.2 and enable TRIM support for the RAID 0 disks?. Looks like it could be a huge benefit: AnandTech - Intel Brings TRIM to RAID-0 SSD Arrays on 7-Series Motherboards, We Test It

I'm not very confident about doing it, if someone gives it a go, let us know if it all installs ok!

I'm pretty sure what is happening with the WEI is that it is actually taking the rating from the integrated graphics chipset and not the 675m. The HD4000 scores about a 6.5 in gaming graphics and this isn't far off.

Glad you like the laptop. :)

Yeah I noticed WEI will show the score of 6.8 for GTX680M with optimus, I think the score is for Intel HD Graphics 4000 not GTX680M. I was playing with the settings in nVidia control panel but could figure out a way to change that.

Run 3DMark 11 or Vantage for the real score. :)

Yeah Ken, you are right! WEI is testing the onboard Intel HD 4000 chip, which interestingly enough, turns out to be pretty awesome over the last-gen Intel HD 3000 chip. Check this out.......

I totally agree! Have had mine for a week now and it is really exceeding all expectations. I was a little worried about "settling" for the 675m with the 0ND instead of the 680m 0NE but I haven't played anything so far that made me wish I had a better GPU. I put an 256gb SSD as the boot drive and now I wonder how we ever got by with mechanical drives of the old days.

It is by far my favorite computer that I've ever owned and I would recommend MSI to friends. Hard to give a better compliment than that.

That doesnt answer my question. Is the GT60 effected. His guide is for the GT70 which has screws on the bottom corners of the LCD, while the 60 does NOT. So its the 15" 60 effected or is it only an issue with the GT70 17" models.

Whoops, sorry, when I read your post I saw "0NC", and assumed you had a GT70. Not sure about GT60's having this issue, but we'll find out.

Only 17.3" models are affected, 15.6" does not have microphone issue so you don't need to fix it.

Thanks, i did a few mic tests as well and it seemed to be the clearest laptop mic ive ever used.

Has anyone tried Windows 8 on here, i noticed alot of drivers are posted on MSI's site...assuming nothing is missing, but none of the utilities are updated...do the win7 versions just work on 8?

I don't think so...mine shows 5.3 for desktop graphics (HD4000) and 6.8 for gaming (GTX 675m) as it came out of the box, so I doubt it's confused about what its displaying.

hello guys, i need help , i have a gt70 one , when i first booted it windows crashed, i repaired it with recovery mode, it was all fine but then it started to crash when starting windows and quiting games like battlefield. i dont know what the problem is, is the ssd or are the videocard drivers the cause of the problem?.

PD: when it crashes the screen goes with a video noise(like a broken screen) and it starts to make some weird noise.

Hey I have the gt70 0nc and when I started it up it made a loud cranking sound. It turned off after awhile though. Any ideas?

Apologies if this has already been asked, I searched with no avail.

While using Firefox and browsing a forum, when I attempt to play an embedded youtube video I am unable to adjust the volume with the function key (arrow left and right). The S-bar Icon will appear but the volume will not change. This does not happen in IE and I have not yet tried Chrome.

Does anyone else have this problem and can it be resolved?

Is it an mechanical noise like the Optical drive trying to read or an electronic noise?

I have a GT60 and am trying to set up Wake on Lan. I have it working with sleep mode, but it doesn't seem to work when powered off. I looked in the BIOS but couldn't find anything relating to WOL. Is this possible with this laptop? Thanks
