I am using barebone version 16F2 without THX software and it still sound way better than Asus and Clevo, the sound even better and louder than my TV.![]()

-
Does anyone have any idea why my laptop's power status would be "97% available (plugged in not charging"
-
Same here. While the sound quality is top notch, I was expecting the volume to go up much higher. I did a minor tweak or two as suggested in this forum, but I've got the volume cranked up all the way and it isn't really loud at all. I would judge it to be slightly above "mid-level". Seems I saw a review on the GT60/70 systems where the guy said if you turn the volume up all the way, the people in the next room will be forced to tell you to turn it down. That spelled "very loud" for me, but I guess it isn't so.
-
Not sure if this is what will do the trick, but there is a battery configurator utility on the system that might correct that and show you a true representation. -

Speakers are loud for me, so maybe its a configuration issue, make sure you volume is up for your program/game in the windows mixer as well.
For me I went into the windows audio controls and set it to 2.1 speakers and on the msi software turned off the surround sound option. I did leave the crystalizer and subwoofer on. -
Thanks! Will check all those out a little more carefully and see what drops out of the tree. -
Is there any difference between these 2 models?
MSI GT70 0NC-004US
MSI GT70 0NC-011US -
I'll have to look for that battery utility when I get home tonight.
I did get to fire up SWTOR very briefly and it looks amazing! -
Yes, the GT70-004 comes STANDARD with 12GB of RAM and 2x 500GB hard drives in RAID 0.
The GT70-011 comes STANDARD with 16GB of RAM, 2x 64GB mSATA Super RAID 0 drives for 128GB total, with a 750GB hard drive, and a Blu-Ray player. -
I was looking at it here:
MSI GT70 0NC-004US 17.3-Inch HD, Intel Core i7-3610QM: Amazon.ca: Electronics -
And I slipped up, my mistake.
I listed our GT60-004 and the GT70-011. /facepalm
The price I pay for being in early today.
The item you linked seems to be the same as the GT70-011 we list. -
Went to Nvidia's driver site to see if there is a driver update to the 670m. I let it do the search and I got a message that the manufacturer prefers I get driver updates from them....only I didn't see anything on MSI's site regarding 670M drivers. I didn't even see the 670M driver listed on Nvidia's site. Wha's up wid dis? Is it THAT new?
-
I didn't even get that far on Monday, it didn't even list the video card. I installed Java, had it search, and it didn't find anything.
I can't imagine we would be relying on MSI to get drivers. It probably is just that new of a system.
When I go to nvidia.com, select the 600M series of drivers, it lists nothing for Windows. The 3 cards it lists (635M, 630M, and 610M) only show Linux drivers. -
Yup....I noticed that. Weird.
Now I see another problem...last night I ran the Heaven benchmark program and it ran very well....nice and smooth at around 40fps. I just tried it again and it has slowed down to the speed of roadkill. Can't figure out what could be the problem. Tried it with intel Turbo boost on and off....no change. This bothering me...
EDIT: Never mind. Figured it out. I had it running on battery...it must've been trying to conserve. Once plugged into power, the benchmark runs like a dream. "DUH" on me.... -
Sounds like it's in some kind of power saving mode.
-
Really disappointing? Oh my random deity. You must be used to premium sound systems all around because in reality, the dynaudio speakers on these MSI is among the highest quality you can get for a laptop right now. Sure there might be other better sound systems, but really disappointing? Come on. 99% of the notebooks out there have tremendously mediocre sound systems. Beats audio, dynaudio etc are currently among the best out there.
The GT60 speakers are not about loudness. It's about quality. Sure they are louder than average but the trick is the crystal-like quality you can get from the audio. Tweaking settings you can have the full range of sounds in authentic manner, instead of faking surround, or other lame effects.
Now the positioning of the speakers will affect how you perceive the sound. The HP Envy does have awesome sound too, but you are basically reaching the high end of sound for notebooks here, and you seem disappointed. I must Imagine your head explodes when you use those cheap earbud headphones. -
So since Fry's didn't have any more GT60's, I ordered a new one from JR.com yesterday. I got it this morning and checked it out briefly before work, and no keyboard problem! Seems to be working fine, but I'll have to give it a full checkup this weekend.
-
Unless I'm totally blind (and I could be), I don't see any utility on the GT60 to monitor the graphics card (i.e. speed, temps, etc). Anyone have any suggestions? Would EVGA Precision work?

MSI Afterburner.
Get it here: http://event.msi.com/vga/afterburner/download.htm -
They have them on the MSI global site: MSI Global ? Notebook - GT70 0NC
-
Why does this thing only charge under 95%?
-
Thanks, xMAR99 and Jallen! Both very helpful.
-
It's designed to stop charging between 93%~99% to prevent overcharge.
-
Its commonly found in laptop nowadays, and will help prolong the life of your battery by not continuosly charging your battery at 100%.
-
i hope msi gt70 and 60 can be upgrade to nvidia gtx 680m or radeon 7970m !
-
irfan wikaputra Notebook Consultant
hellow guys, i am a new user of gt 60
just picked up today
it's the best 15.6 incher in the market in terms of anything except that gtx 670m
well, who cares?vga is upgradeable in this beast
-
Is the 670m so bad?
Another question: How is the battery life on the GT60? How much does it last while web surfing? -
It's leagues ahead of my old 8800gts!
-
irfan wikaputra Notebook Consultant
not that bad until those kepler and GCN came out
but dont worry, it's at least as fast as gtx 460 desktop
and it's a very good overclocker
the most important thing is, this beast's vga can be upgraded
and this version has everything needed as gaming laptop compared to other 15.6 incher
. believe me
-
Hey all, just got my GT70 today. I've just started playing around with it, and if I decide to format the PC to get my win 7 on my SSD instead of my HDD, what should I install, etc? I'm okay with the formatting stuff, but the drivers and software ( thx software and whatnot) are the things I'm scared of myself screwing up
.
-
It's a completely capable gaming machine. I won't be worried about upgrading or over locking for awhile.
-
irfan wikaputra Notebook Consultant
do you guys know how to deactivate optimus?
it keeps holding back the gtx 670m
-
It should in Nvidia control panel:
-
irfan wikaputra Notebook Consultant
yes, i did that. for physX and 3d settings. but still in gpuz, ccleaner and other software detects the hd 4000 -__-
what will happen if i disable the hd 4000 in the device manager?
-
It's like that to remind you it's a gaming laptop that should never be used when it's unplugged. Nobody actually uses their mobile monster while on battery. Except when playing facebook games that need quad corez and lots of ram. FarmVille is the most demanding game.
-
Anyone have any suggestions for which game should be first on my virgin computer? Need something good to properly introduce it into the world.
Was thinking something hardcore like Mafia Wars, maybe QWOP. -
Whatever you do, stay away from anything made by EA (Battlefield 3, etc.). As much as I would like to have games like BF3 on the laptop, EA's servers absolutely suck. When it takes over 8 hours for the game to update, something is terribly, terribly wrong. It wasn't my connection; I tested it and it was cooking. Hundreds, if not thousands of other users are experiencing the same thing. EA keeps denying that there isn't anything wrong, but those thousands of users can't all be wrong. And the other games I have on it are working and updating just fine BTW.
-
I ran SWTOR and Arkham city
-
Hmm thanks, I'll take that to heart, don't know if I'd like BF3 too much anyhow. Maybe I'll fall back on Bioshock 2, bet it'll look purty on the computer.
-
Bioshock 2 looks terrific on the GT60.
BTW....a little while ago I hooked the laptop up to ethernet to see if it made any difference. The EA servers were downloading on an average of 135 KB per second. That is what other people are reporting also. From what I understand, this is "normal" for EA. It's absolutely ludicrous.... -
Jeez... might have been faster just to code the update yourself
-
Certainly not true.
My BF3 updates at 1MB/s, which is my max speed from my ISP. -
ViciousXUSMC Master Viking NBR Reviewer
Arkham City... MMM have not played it yet can't wait. I have it downloaded for benchmarking.
-
So.. is it good to get a better gamut screen on notebooks??
-
GPU-Z only shows you the GPU information not the GPU you are currently using, there is a drop down menu and you can select to show GTX670M info.
-
Alight, that's it. I think I need to kill someone.

You gentlemen that bought your new GT70 or GT60 with the Super Raid option have a good upgrade path for the stock SanDisk U100 mSATA SSDs.
Others might be able to buy the mSATA module to upgrade the units that shipped with only a 750GB WD Black HDD.
Right now the new Mushkin Atlas Deluxe mSATA SSDs are the only ones that use Toshiba Toggle memory;the rest use cheaper async.
They are available in 60GB,120GB and 240GB capacities.
I haven't found any reviews yet.

I was thinking of putting the Crucial M4's mSATA drives in mine when they come out. They are supposed to be one of the better mSATA drives almost fully on par with the full size 2.5" SSD's and since they have been selling the standard m4 so cheap of late that could mean good things for prices on the mSATA version.
2x 128GB for a 256GB total capacity that is large enough for me to comfortably put games on there. Currently I always put games on a 2nd drive and that annoys me since I would like the faster loading times for both programs & games.
The only problem I see after that is that my 160GB G2 Intel SSD on my desktop will probably feel insufficient
-
hi guys. i am planning to buy GT 60.
Am really confused if I should go for RAID 0 or just Single 750GB Seagate Momentus XT 7200RPM 32MB, 8GB SSD Hybrid Drive, SATA III 6Gb/s HDD coz I read a lot about failure rates of RAID 0 drives.
I dont want to keep another HDD for backup if I go for RAID 0 and data is really important for me as my laptop will hold all my company and work data and will also use it for games and movies etc.
Will RAID 0 really improve too much performance over Single HDD??? -
