It might be your shift configuration because that changes target temperatures. Try messing with those. But I don't know anything about drivers as I don't have the laptop yet.

what that little charging plug symbol means on the first usb port of the left side?
-

That's a powered USB port that remains powered even when the machine is off and used for charging devices mainly

Has anyone used the GT72-216? Does the CPU throttle, and how are the temperatures?

I just bought a Asus VG248QE monitor and I am going to use my notebook with the lid closed when using the monitor. Is there a way to turn on the notebook with the lid closed? I looked in the BIOS for a wake on USB feature and didn't find it. I have the GT72 Dominator Pro 210 model.

Was looking to buy a MSI GT Series GT72 Dominator Pro-211 off of Newegg but I wanted to ask a question first, I was looking around the Web and found Notebook Fourm's and i was reading about the MSI GT72-211 and some people are reporting they got a 4720HQ instead of a 4710HQ and instead of a TN panel their getting and LG ISP panel.
Are the specs on Newegg correct or are the Laptops updated and Newegg hasn't updated the specs yet?
If its true that the New Laptops have an ISP and a new cpu, I will buy one today!! =)
Thanks! -

If in doubt about specs I advise you to contact the seller directly and ask before ordering.kickback likes this. -
Thank you Meaker! I will do that.

Well, that's a bummer....they only have the old ones in.....time to play the waiting game. Been looking around the last week and this laptop seems to be the best in its class minus the TN and the 4710hq.....two things I really don't like or can Justify spending 2k on a laptop for.

p.s the msi is the italian version -
NateJunior, I have never experienced your problem with the keyboard. Really weird. I hope someone else can help you out!
I have a question myself. I haven't owned too many laptops, so I need some advice regarding battery/ac power.
- Do you turn off the computer, or put it in sleep mode when not used?
- When you use it as desktop replacement, do you keep it plugged in AC-POWER at all times (even overnight with lid closed)?
What I am thinking is using sleep/standby mode during the day (with lid closed), and turning it off overnight. But should i remove the Ac adapter when doing so?
Any help appreciated! -

- Personal preference, sleep will drain the battery but will keep all your current work active. If you don't have an SSD it's also faster than starting. If you do have an SSD I would just turn it off.
- Yes mine is always plugged in. -
I have already disabled the auto-dim feature, and for now it seems to have stopped, but ocasionally it auto dims too, as has happened to you. -
Hi guys,
I'm new to the forum, so please bare with me
Initially I purchased the new AW 17 (4980hq, 980m, 16bg) but have had to return 2 of them within the space of a few weeks so safe to say I do not wan't another. I would ideally like the gt72 with the 4980hq cpu but due to the ssd options the price is sky high. What are your thoughts on the 4870hq? The model I am looking at is the MSI GT72 2QE (Dominator Pro)-806UK. I think it has an ips panel.
I'v tried to read through to see if there are any comments on this particular model but no luck. Anyone's 10 pence on this sku would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Guys,
I wonder why almost no one mentioned about Gt72 Dominator Dragon Pro? I wanted to buy this product but there are lack of information or user reviews. Can any one suggest to me which configuration (dominator dragon pro 24gb or other models like dominator pro 211-16gb then resellers or I can add more ram etc.) should I buy around $2600 in New York. Thanks in advance. -
the added value of the CPU in the dragon pro model is minimal. The benchmarks published by intel are not impressive compared to the 4710; does not justify the premium price. Just google 4710 vs 4870 as that's the only key difference between this model and the other gt72s.

Hi
I have same problem with MSI GT72 2qe 211 Model:MS-1781
I changed PEG DMI ratio to next step 1.25x then intel extreme utility ask reboot, on the reboot time comes on bluescreen and then shut down.
When I turn power on, screen is black (no back light) 5 sec fans running and automatically shutdown, after few seconds turn automatically on again same repeating circle.
I tried battery off, wait 10 min. Add extra ram and I took SSD and HDD out, but still nothing. -
I try to remove all ram and boot. but still nothing happens.
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
What happens if you try with a single stick?
-
still balck in screen no light I had ordered 1333mhz RAM.it will arrive this friday. hope it works QAQ…
-
i saw the solution is that remove all ram and turn on then turn off. put in a slower ram. is slower ram means under 1600mhz ram(mine is 1600)
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
It just needs to be different ram that forces a setting reset.
Testing uncharted (or already proven to be mostly just dangerous) settings in an unlocked bios should only be attempted by those with appropriate recovery tools.
This is partly why a community created unlock tool was removed from the forum by the creator due to the large number of bricked systems.
If in doubt about a setting, ask first.evalist likes this. -
different brand or bus speed?i wont try again in my life.and ty for helping
-
How many hz you can push this laptop screen?
-
up to 60
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
60hz is the max spec but can overclock it in DGPU mode. You could get any value as the panels vary a lot.
Different speed/timing is what you are looking for. -
When I close the lid it goes into sleep mode (which is what i want). But I noticed (when running on battery) it turns off completely/hibernates after a few minutes.
What can I do to prevent this? I want it to stay in sleep mode, and not hibernate. Because if I leave the comp running in battery mode for a few mins with lid closed, it takes a "long" time to turn it on again (same as cold boot). -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Go to power options in control panel, there are two columns for behaviour, one for plugged in and one for battery, change each as you wish.
-
You can overclocl de original panel to many hz? 80?
-
laptop lives again!ty mate!
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Good now hopefully it stays that way
As for the panel anywhere from 65hz to 120hz, it all depends on your particular panel (even another of the same model could be totally different). -
I was leaning more towards the Sager with the 4790k but in the end MSI brand loyalty is what is going to make my purchase. Any thoughts on the difference between the Dragon 695 Vs. the Pro 208. I will be adding 2 more 128 Msata SSD's so the price is pretty much the same. Only other question I have is do you still get the cool swag with the Dragon Edition purchase. I really want the MSI Hermes Backpack
-
-
The difference between your choices are huge...my humble opinion is the Dragon Edition blows the GT80 047 out of the water. The 18" has a bigger screen but slower cpu, less ram, and fewer SSd's.
-
Woot, just got a gt72 406. After my lenovo y510p pooped out I've been on the hunt for a new laptop. Was set on the sager 8651, but found the gt72 at frys for a good price.
-
I feel strongly about getting a GT72 eventually, but it kinda burns my gut that the GE72 gets an IPS right off the bat, while the reasonable (for me) GT72 SKUs don't.
MSI please.

4GB is going to be fine for a bit and with it being upgradable you should still be able to get a reasonable price for the old one and upgrade.
-
I'm not sure if the 4GB vram version is a modular mxm. I have seen only the 8gb version. Maybe some one can confirm it here that has it.
The EU 4710HQ version has the IPS screen. -
I doubt 4GB VRAM will be a hindrance in the next 2-3 years, at least not at 1080p/High settings. By the time an 8GB 980M could use the VRAM, it'll be too weak and it'll time for a GPU upgrade anyway.
-
nightingale Notebook Evangelist
The vram i imagine was already excessive as 6gb and 8gb for the 970m and 980m respectively, probably just nvidia trying to one up amd. 99% of cases you most likely wont even feel the difference.
The 4gb 980m and 3gb 970m in the 4720 equipped gt72s are definitely modular mxm, they use the same motherboard layout as the original first release gt72 so it would make absolutely no sense for msi to take another step to solder it onto the motherboard for no apparent reason. The biggest reason i see for this would most likely be because as said prior, 6gb and 8gb were pretty much overkill so to cut down costs and bring a price reduction to customers, they went with half the vram. -
Hey guys, I've been trying to find out what m2 ssd's I can get to install in my dominator, but can't find any definitive answers. Can I just get any m2 ssd or does it have to be a specific model? I'm finding that the games I play stutter, which I've found out can be attributed to mechanical hdds? I may be misinformed, so any clarification would be great. Thanks for your input guys.

does it make sense to buy a laptop with a nvidia 980m now when the 10x faster nvidia pascal is due for lauch next year?
-
nightingale Notebook Evangelist
The gt72 will do you nicely now as well as in the future when the new architectures come out. -
If you need a laptop now, the only other option is to buy something cheap (like $1k-ish with a 960M) to last you until Pascal hits.
