Any chance to expelling how to achieve this (refresh over 60Hz)? is it within the Nvidia control panel if so where ? or a 3th party program is needed ?
I searched through Nvidia Cont panel options and it looks liked locked at 60 under refresh rate . I must be missing something but don't know what .
    Thanks !

In the nvidia control panel where you select the resolution click the custom resolution button.

So my GT72 with 4870hq has arrived... i'm slightly disappointed. its very sluggish, it is struggling to keep up with me typing this message. I have downloaded some bench marks and they seem poor compared to what others are getting. I got 6186 in FireStrike where as I have seen well over 8000-9000. Any ideas on what I could do would be grand please

This was a brand new purchase? Have you loaded any software onto the system already?
How about battery? Is it installed? Is it fully charged?

Thats why some one should confirm it who owns the laptop and instead making assumptions because I have my doubts same reason as what you guys mentioned. Especially how the EU version has the IPS version silently and it was nowhere clearly written when I just got it. I've seen a post of some one here went by that got a 4720HQ with 8GB vram. So instead making assumptions let some one have take a look at it please and I believe you guys it should be mxm. I'm sure some one has the 4GB vram version here.

And also the 4GB vram version is more expensive here then the 8GB vram abit strange though.

    Hello,

Im new here and have read the discussion about the IPS screen.
I bought the MSI GT72 2QE version for the IPS screen, the website where i ordered said it has an IPS screen, they checked with MSI to be sure so we should believe thats true. (Some sites did not repport the IPS in this moddel)

My specific model is: GT72 2QE-476NL (Netherland) it has an ' PnP-Monitor (Standard) - lgd0469'
    The CPU is i7 4710 and 8GB GTX 980

You can install HWInfo http://www.hwinfo.com/, then run a report to find the exact screen model installed then reference that to see the type of screen.

Wanted everyone's thoughts. If you had a chance to buy a 445 open box from new egg saving about 500 bucks off the 445 and = to the cost of the dragon edition 695. Would the uncertainty of an open box be worth the upgrade to the i7 4980 HQ

    Hi there.
I'm into looking at MSI GT72 models to choose from so I stumbled upon this nice owners lounge. Having read all pages up to here, I'm definitely persuaded to buy the GT72.

But it seems the starting post here is not up to date (or is it?).

My problem is about the forrest of GT72 models out there. I'm living in the Netherlands and want to get the best model to fit my needs (and being Dutch, as cheap as possible).

Is there some kind of easy table with all the models in clear columns what features they have? Now I have to jump from reseller to reseller to read their specs and see they do not always use the correct info.

A nice table would not be bad to have at the startpost of this lounge.

So, until now I think I have seen the model I need:
    GT72 2QE-476NL

    I need/want:
    980M 8 Gb
    16 Gb RAM
    1 1000Gb HDD
    1 128Gb SSD
    IPS screen
CPU does not really matter (4710 vs 4720)

I know, the SSD and only 8 Gb of RAM is not in the suggested model. But upgrading to 16 Gb and adding a SSD will be cheaper (!?)

    Any comments?

So, when I go to wake the laptop up from sleep, the keyboard lights up and the chassis lights turn on but the screen stays dead. I have to hard reboot to get the screen to wake up.

I've tried clean installing nvidia drivers, multiple tries of sleeping / waking, and every different way of waking.

Anyone else having this issue with their gt72?

So I just got my gt72 in the mail and this thing beautiful and sexy! One problem though the bottom of it creaks when you push on it really bad its the bottom left middle. Is this normal and dose anyone else have this and is it ok if I open it up and check to see if I can fix it? Also is the bottom of the laptop supposed to be flush with the rest of the laptop?

The bottom panel should sit pretty flush, it may be worth taking the panel off and ensuring it is seated properly.

It might be easy to do it, but if you can't then it's better to contact MSI and let them handle your issue under warranty coverage.

How do you back up your GT72? I am looking for a good way to preserve my precious data without too much of an effort.

    1. Should I also create a system image from the msi recovery tool? How big does the USB drive need to be?
    2. Is file history the best alternative for local backup? Can it be used with external drives?

Kickback, Look into the MSI GT72 Dragon Pro. In my opinion it is thbest value!! By all means if 3 or 4 Gs is nothing to yuo than just grab the best of the best. BUT, for me, the $3,000 was a line a didn't want to cross, The Dragon Pro I got for $2,599 from Newegg, GTX980, 24gb RAM, 270gb SSD, 1TB HD, 4870 HQ CPU @2,50Hz. After literallly spending hours a day reading specs for 5 months (an entiremonth focused on GT72) when I saw this it was almosot to good to be true, in my situation it was perfect!!!!! The only negative was the screen, whcih can be changed I believe, but i'm glad I got the Matte Screen becausee I actuallyy love it.

EXENHERO , Personally when I saw the Dragon Pro it was LOVE at first site!!! It was by far the only Model I found that had EVERYTHING I wanted/needed (NO CONSETIONS!!!) and managed to stay under 2600 from Newegg. Do keep in mind, I am a person that has never bought a laptop, EVER! I'm huge into Android, Tablets, Phones, watches, basically every otherpiece of technology. I did all my work and reviews via Tablets and only ever used a PC to program. So i guess what I think means squaat..... but I am very happy and after wanting a high end Gaming Laptop for10 years I have thousands of hours in research with no experience. NONE THE LESS I COULD NOT BE HAPPIER or MORE IMPRESSED!

Unfortunately I'm having noobert problems. When I download the bios files all i get are 3 text files and 1 other file. Msi's website's directions for flashing these sorts of things is broken and I have no idea how to do it. How can I update my bios? I have a gt72 dominator (non pro).

    1. Yes, since it gives you a full restore disc in case you want to return the system to stock settings.
    2. It works great and is sufficient, but not the best since there are a lot of good ones (paid). Go to control panel -> system security -> file history -> lower left corner (system image backup), run it and backup the entire drive. It supports DVDRW, external hdd, or network folder.

Guys, I need some help. I got my first blue screen (driver_irql_less_or_equal) while idling in Windows, just after quitting a game.

What could be the cause? The computer is almost brand new, recovery not too long ago.

Well the TXT files are links to the guideline and upgrade SOP .
the one "other" file is the actual bios

You should extract the bios on some USB stick best root ..keep it clean only with this bios file on it
my advice remove all other external USB HDD's that you might have to avoid confusion.
Shut down windows with holding SHIFT+SHUTDOWN from windows
Turn ON your laptop holding DELETE all the time until you enter BIOS
In Bios find a section which gives you the BIOS UPGRADE OPTION , plug in your USB holding the BIOS file ..point it to it when asked and follow all other instructions ...done .

No telling what it could be without analyzing it. There's software that might help; Bluescreenview is one program. Microsoft has their WinDbg application too, though it's a little less user friendly.

Sounds like a video driver fail. Next time u get a BSOD, take a picture and write down the memory address. And it can help us define the component that is the problem. Also sometimes it will have a file listed as the source problem. If it lists the file then usually u can just Google the file name and BSOD and it will tell u. But the address is key because it will tell exactly which component on the board failed if u know how to decode it.

I don't mean to be rude, but you are attempting to sell a laptop in a forum where people already own the laptop. If you list it on eBay or Craigslist it will be sold by next week most likely.

I am seriously looking into buying the MSI GT72 Dragon Pro. I see you can get it from Newegg, Gentech or Xoticpc. Does anyone have experience with the extended warranty or the quality of service from any of these sellers. I am used to dealing with Dell and extended warranties. But lately their computers are disappointing.

Check the sig. MSI wanted $485 to repair my GT70, so I figured I might as well go ham and get a GT72.
Should have it tomorrow or the next day. Can't wait.

So the real question is, do you want to speak with to a tech rep who's primary language is English or not. Do you want a company that can and will upgrade your computer when you want them to or not. Do you want a company based in the United States or not. Do you want a company that is so involved with its customers that they are continuously on forums providing their communities with helpful information or not. If not, buy from Dell.

If you do like any of that then go with gentech pc, power notebooks, Xotic pc, or any of the custom computer companies. Newegg is an electronics store and they sell the pcs only, but don't warranty them or repair/upgrade. MSI warranty products pretty quick and I got mine back in less than a week.

But what it really comes down to is whether you want stellar customer service or not. If you want great customer service, I would definitely look into gentech or one of the other custom builders, but for me, I stay away from Dell like they have the plague. I was loyal Dell customer for 15 years. Now they don't give a ... About their customers and only care if you submit a BBB complaint and even then, they don't care. After my last run in with them, I tell everyone about my experience and warn them to stay away. But you make up your own mind, at least give these guys a call and see what they have to say, I think you'll be surprised at their awesome deals and genuine care for their customers.

floydstime, Thanks! Yes, I want all those things. It would be a breath of fresh air from my experience with Dell. I am leaning toward Gentech or Xoticpc depending on how my conversation goes with them. I can't wait to get my new MSI laptop. Dell has my old one in their warehouse trying to fix it right now, but, it is so out of date and I don't entirely trust them. One again, thanks for your input.

I am ordering my Dragon 695 tomorrow. I just have one simple question, it may seem like 2 but it really is only 1. I am asking them to add 2 more 128 m.2's. If I am correct then they will need to reinstall the OS to be able to give me the full raid 0 on the 500Gb SSD's. If they do a clean install will they also have the MSI required programs like SCM and dragon gaming on the clean install. I am probably going to do an unboxing photo and video since I can not find one anywhere. I also can't wait to put this side by side against my GT60 0NE with the 680m and see the difference.

Not really you could use drive migrations software. If you told them that you want all three in raid 0 then they most likely would. If not they may install the two m.2 drives and leave it up to you, or they could raid the m.2 drives together and then u have to separate drives. If it doesn't come how you want it, then get some drive migration software and move the os to the platter drive. Then format all four m.2s, Raid them, then migrate the ps back to the raid array. Or you can create a restore disk and download all the drivers/software from the website. Format all four drives, make a raid array, then just reinstall windows. It's a new build so it will be empty anyway. Or you can Save all the trouble and call them, explain what you want and then they will set it all up for you and alleviate any concerns you might have.

Okay, so I got my bios updated, and just saw that a new vbios was released by msi. I've been trying to install it, but no luck. I even removed the drivers for my 970. The website provides no specific instructions on how to complete this procedure. Can anyone shoot me a walkthrough or something?

    A question:
I've seen in the last models of GT72 2QD and 2QE says "FULL HD eDP", maybe they have changed Chimei panel for a IPS panel ??

eDP is just the connection, has nothing to do with display type.

So I got my GT72 an hour or so ago. Despite what the Amazon listing says, it came with the i7-41702HQ and the LGD0469 ISP panel. I've also confirmed with GPU-Z, that I do have a GTX 980M w/ 8GB of GDDR5. Interesting turn of events.

I honestly was completely fine with the TN panel, because I was concerned about response times of the IPS. I guess I get to find out first hand now.

The laptop is beautiful, btw. More impressions later.

Kevin, I actually ordered mine from Amazon just last week and received one with a i7-4720 (is that the processor you meant?) when the listing was for a 4710. I'm not sure about the monitor as I am not entirely sure how to check that. It did come with the 980M 8GB too I believe. The model I ordered was the GT72 Dominator Pro 211 by the way. It was an interesting find when I noticed the specs differed from the listing.

Go into Device Manager -> Monitors -> right click Generic PnP -> Properties -> Details tab -> click Property -> find Hardware IDs

If you have the IPS, it'll say MONIITOR\LGD0469.
