My RMA status now shows MSI is shipping it today. I should get it back exactly one month after I shipped it. Finally!
-
Glad you're getting it back, but it took MSI too long to repair.
-
This is getting comical now. I sent a message to Customer Support Friday asking about the delay. I just got this answer, "Hi, The GPU is faulty and needs of replacing, currently we are short of this part, we are expected to have the part in stock early next week, once we have it we'll replace the GPU and do all other necessary verification and ship your notebook back, Thank you and I apologize for any inconveniences, delays."
First, it wasn't sent in for a GPU. It was the bezel. Second, the status shows it is in the shipping stage now. No telling what I will get back. It may be a desktop.Last edited: Nov 7, 2016praetorianx, hmscott, DukeCLR and 1 other person like this. -

Brightness wacky
SCM has the brightness at 0
If I try to adjust it, it resets instantly to 0 again
Adaptive brightness is off so not sure
If I change video more to Intel graphics it's fine but when I switch back to th3 nvidia it goes back to 0
The function keys are able to adjust the brightness
Any idea on why SCM is wacky?
Also the video mode gamer etc
Show brightness 0 also -
That's hilarious, when I sent my GT80 in for an actual faulty GPU with dead VRAM, I got it back a week and a half later with a note saying "reseated SLI cable."

Got my tracking number. I'm surprised they are shipping it 2nd day air. Customer service replied again and said disregard previous message about the video card. Apparently the RMA tech sent them the wrong info. They also updated the bios and EC firmware.

If you look back in this thread there is a link to a color profile and directions on hpw to use profile keeper, I followed those directions so I don't bother with changing the modes in DGChmscott likes this.

See if there is an upgraded version from MSI. It may just be out of date.DukeCLR likes this.

Yea noticed that when the GPU and/or CPU fan goes above 30% power the fans have a faint high pitch bearings noise. I know this is common to some PC fans. I'm wondering if some oil would fix this if only I could get access to the fans but I don't dare take the warranty sticker off. I seem to remember you could access the back of the Alienware without breaking a warranty. Also what if I want to clean the fins of the heatsinks. I have to wait 2 years before I can do this?!
-
Where can I get this color profile keeper?
Anyone have a link?
Thanks -

Can anyone tell me which model numbers of the GT73VR have G-Sync?

Once I load and lock the profile do I have to launch the application when windows starts? -
There is a new version of Dragon Center, it's dated November 2. https://us.msi.com/Laptop/support/GT73VR-TITAN-6th-Gen-GTX-1070.html#down-utility&Win10 64
From what I have read on the website the rules are different in other countries but in the US they can't enforce it. When I bought my GT70 in 2012 I filled out a support ticket asking if I could replace my HDD with a SSD and they said it wasn't a problem as long as I didn't break anything. I wold fill out a support ticket.
As for coil whine, I don't hear anything but airflow, I would look into the problem. I also would not put any non approved lubricant on the fans.
keep us informed on how it all works out.Atma likes this. -
Is that possible guys, that dragon game center is resetting my laptop ? it is very annoying , still without reason my laptop resetting itself..
still looking for the reasons...

I don't have my laptop at the moment, but I think you can have it launch at startup. I unistalled MSI True Color.
-
I really don't know, but looking around I've seen people bring up a couple issues. Have you tried updating the bios and EC firmware? I've also seen people say it could be a problem with the battery/power adapter. Have you tried MSI tech support to see if they have any ideas?DukeCLR likes this.
-
I haven't tried to call them, i updated the firmware, and last time i checked the bios it was the latest. can you please show me the link where they mentioned it could be the power adapter/battery issue ? I am using always plugged in, so i do not know what could be the problem whit it....Atma likes this.

I don't have a particular link. I searched google for 'MSI laptop restarting'. There are many links.

The model with screen 120Hz have G-Sync
Reason the G-Sync feature not listed on MSI website for GT73VR Titan Pro, according to one of the re-seller
According to Nvidia contract; Msi is not officially approved for G-Sync. However, we do see the technology that would make it capable; that is the reason why it is not listed.
Above doesn't apply on 4K model -
If they don't have Nvidia's blessing, they don't have G-Sync. Mobile G-Sync is basically just an extortion system for licensing fees. There's zero extra hardware involved, unlike in external G-Sync.
-
I would fill out a ticket at MSI, a total reset seems like a major issue, if not now, later.
-
I have just asked the online support, filled a ticket, hopefully they can help.. i killed the dragon center for a while, if it stops restarting this would be the issue then.. I am wondering maybe other people has the same issue before...Atma likes this.

Your problem seems to be unique and fairly sever. Good luck and keep us posted.Atma likes this.

Thanks mate, i hope it will not be serious...

Someone in the forum mentioned another program for replacing the dragon center... i cannot find it.. is this possible ? using something else and overlocking the gpu cpu and controlling the fans , but not with dragon center ??

Intel Extreme Tuning Utility (Intel XTU) and MSI Afterburner. I'm not sure about the fans.DukeCLR likes this.

thanks a million.. by the way i think i found the source of the problem.. it looks like not from the dragon center but from the killer wireless adapter causing the resets ...
can i change the drivers ?
i have the newest one from the msi site -
MSI doesn't always stay up to date with the newest drivers from vendors, so go to the Killer Wireless site to download the "drivers only" version - to cut to the most likely successful version.
Uninstall the Killer Suite, reboot, install the "drivers only" version, and hopefully that will catch you up on fixes.
Driver Only Packages
Drivers packages for Killer products that include base drivers only (no Killer Features).

Later, when you have time to futz with it, you can uninstall the "drivers only" version, reboot and install the latest "Suite" version, set the upload/download values in the Systray Settings app, and that should give you local bandwidth management that will allow you to do simultaneous downloads, streaming, and browsing without lag or stuttering in playback. Works well for me, under Windows 8.1.

Interesting, I know nothing about failed GPUs but if you switch to the intel GPU does the defect go away?
-
I've been playing Titanfall 2, Battlefield 1 and Forza Horizon 3 and I haven't had any issues. The flickering horizontal lines and bad performance only happens with Gears of War 4Last edited: Nov 8, 2016

Phew, I thought you had that line through everything.
-
I installed a previous driver version (375.63) and the flickering black lines are gone and performance is great now in Gears of War 4.

Finally got my laptop back. The bezel on the right side is fixed, but they sent it back with the bezel on the left side doing the same thing in the same area. I answered their survey about how happy I was with my RMA process (HAH!) and told them if they could send me instructions for removing the bezel I'll fix it my self.
-
Wow what a disappointing story, truly disappointing.
-
I just ordered another drive I'm going to set up in raid 0. I've never done raid but it looks pretty simple from the MSI video I watched. Has anyone done it on this laptop? Any surprises I should know about? I wish I had let GenTechPC do this when I bought it. The drive is almost twice as much as I could have gotten it for then.

Setting up raid is pretty simple. I assume you want to go raid 0 to double your drive space and speed? You will lose all your data on the drives you are creating a raid with. The raid bios are simple, just highlight the drives you want to add and then create the array. Make sure you got all the drivers you need before installing windows.Atma likes this.
-
Thanks, yes I'm getting a second Samsung SM951 256gb like it came with to run raid 0. One is just not enough for the size of games now days. I made a restore USB when I got the laptop and that's what I'll use so drivers shouldn't be a problem.

I'm in UK so enforcing the warranty is an unknown. 2 years without taking the back off to clean is mad! What if the sicker got accidentally scratched off?
Its not coil whine, that is something different and if it had that I would send back. I have to admit I'm being very picky here. This is fan bearing noise and I'm sure its not just mine, its the type of fans msi are using. Its not bad enough to send back, I may just take vid highlighting it. If you can't hear high pitch noises well you prob won't notice also when you have fans on above 45% power it goes.
Looking at the alienware 17 r4 forum i still made the right choice overall but looking at the alienware i see better quality fans. Maybe gaming notebooks (MSI pay attention) will eventually buy top branded fans and label them on the case like they are doing with the steelseries keyboard and dynaudio speakers.Last edited: Nov 10, 2016DukeCLR likes this. -
It would be interesting to see what they say if you fill out a support ticket about asking to take off the back panel for cleaning.
-
I am in UK too and from my experience MSI UK are happy for end users to replace HDD/SSD/MEMORY as long as nothing gets damaged in the process. I have this in writing from MSI UK Support. They do not care about the fact that warranty sticker was tampered with.
Also I have sent my original GT72 with Haswell for repairs ages ago, warranty sticker was tampered with but it has been fixed free of charge.DukeCLR likes this. -
Yeah, MSI is usually pretty lax about the sticker. It's probably more so they have something to say when a failure was clearly caused by the buyer.
-
so tested only just with the drivers... i does not reset anymore, but frequently disconnecting, again seems like without reason... definitely because of the drivers... i highly disappointed in the killer wireless stuff. and this is not the first time i had problems with it...Atma likes this.
