oke if i was a FPS hardcore gamer i would prefer 120hz 1080p rather than 4k (if all settings must on MAX)
but you have to accept, 1080p isnt future proof anymore
4K display's looks far way better with the higher dpi
and if you are into some design software like me you get more workspace
yes maybe you wont able to play games in 4k over a couple years but you dont need to play on MAX settings .. we have seen on todays games that the difference in max and high settings is not very noticeable...(instead you are a fps freak)
and if you want to play MAX settings on 4k you can later install a second mxm gtx1070/80 on the gt73VR for SLI if i am right?
at least i saw a mxm port on youtube (gentechpc)

Finally got some free time to play with GT73VR single GTX 1080:
- Did some overlocking
- It's G-Sync enabled out of the box for sure
- It does support Intel GPU graphics with GPU button

oo 120hz with G-Sync. Cool. Can't wait for mine
-
can you test whats the battery life is with Intel GPU just for surfing, light applications, normal use etc... how long hours does it hold im really curious
and how long will it go with the full use of gtx1080 on battery -
I'm leaning towards the MSI GT73VR 120hz G-Sync with 1070 Nvidia GTX.
Value for the money, and more than enugh for 120hz gaming. Then next year's upgrade, volta/oled will be a easier pill to swallow, -
almost any know laptop brand has updated their laptop
only "Alienware" hasnt announced there new laptop with pascal updates
if we look to alienwares last news they represented
that is the "alienware 13" with OLED panel (a couple month ago-for sell now)
that's it!.. if you go to their offical website you cant find any information about the upcoming pascal cards in their laptop
isnt that weird?
one of the well know gaming notebook branch didint announced something? after the pascal update?
are they late?
or are they hiding something?
maybe they are working on a 4K 17.3 İnch OLED panel?
(i hope not glossy like the 13)
or am ı just dreaming* -
I saw your video review of the GT73VR with the 1080. How loud are the fans in person? Would it be distracting to someone watching TV 10 feet away? Also, would there be a difference in cooling with the 1070 vs the 1080?NeoFlash likes this.

What's the "Full fan" setting noise level like? Compared to the GT80's

is this with stock paste or you replace paste after disassembly in video?
I am more interested in the gpu temp on full load (ex: 4k/dsr gameplay of witcher 3) on the gpu with fans on turbo modeAtma likes this. -
Forgot to mention, I applied IC Diamond on both CPU/GPU last night.

Thanks, when you try tonight, can you see what it sounds like under load (like it might be when I'm gaming)? I know the one in the video you reviewed showed about 50db on the left rear when you were bench marking. I just don't know what that's like in real life actually being there.
-
must be fun getting that goop of toothpaste off the heatsinks
-
Must be very loud I guess.
I'll try again tonight.

Hello! I'm the one who made the reddit post about the GT72VR. I've got it all boxed back up and am about to take it to Microcenter. That said, there's a lot of info I'm confused about on where to buy the GT73VR 017. I want the 1070 with the 120hz refresh rate, but I leave for a year long study abroad in mid-September so I really would like to get it before then. Places like Amazon don't show it being deliverable until September 21st, but other locations like Xotic and Gentech have them as 'in-stock' I think. Are the 120 hz, GTX1070, GT73VR laptops 100% available for purchase right now?

Some models, are available right now, with more on the way. The SLI ones won't be around until September though.hmscott likes this. -

They are perfect , their customer support is amazing and they will understand your needs and do their best to fullfill them.
this is from personal experience
I just bought the GT73VR fromthem -
Man, I love to know the temps after the repaste. And ofcourse some gameplay.
-
Sli only 1070, no 1080?
Still need pics of that Gt83 and GT73 sli heatsink! -

GT73 will do SLI 1070 or single 1080. GT83 is the only SLI 1080 in the lineup. No shots available yet, but I've asked for some.hmscott likes this. -
Did you buy the MSI GT73VR-017? Can you please upload some pictures? What are the temps on full load? What are the speeds of the M.2? Firestrike score?
-
Not yet, I need to wait for the refund to process on my credit card. Probably won't be until next week.
-
-
What is the battery life on this thing? Does the GPU function key toggle between dedicated and integrated GPU to save battery like in the GT72?
-
@GenTechPC would you say the cooling is on par, superior or inferior to P775DM3 with the same configuration? (yes I know the Clevo has a desktop cpu, so it will obviously run warmer, or/and need more cooling, I just want to know ballpark figures)

I am planning to purchase a GT73VR but I am still undecided between 201-1080 ($3599) and 058-1070 SLI ($3499). I have seen the benchmarks of the 1080 and a single 1070 but I am not sure if the 1070 SLI would be better.
-
I ordered mine just a couple of days ago, cannot wait to get my hands on it,

I haven't done anything about the battery life test yet, but I think maybe last for 30~40 minutes maybe.
Yes GPU button works just like GT72 and you can swtich to Intel HD Graphics but required system reboot.
MSI usually have one of the best cooling especially with Turbo Fan on. Clevo has one of the best as well, they are both great and runs cool on GPU and CPU.
I posted some quick overclocking few days ago, you might want to take to a look.

Per requested, here is the Turbo Fan test of GT73VR. The turbo fan is the worst case scenario and system will never get this loud under normal use, the Turbo Fan are activated manually:

Thank you for the reply mate, any chance you can do the same sort of review you did on that MSI, for the Clevo P775DM3, also equipped with a 1080? that would be amazing .
Wow wasn't expecting the turbo fan to sound so loud, is that 80 decibels? that is crazy, must really help with the cooling though, it sounds like it is just about to take off
For reference 80 decibels is the noise equivalent of flying in economy class on an airplane Oo time to pull out the Bose QC 25s

To be fair most db measurements are done with the db meter where your head would normally be, not right in front of the vent where the air comes out.

Wow, those 12v fans are insane) But look at the temps. 25C off cpu and 24C off gpu T compared to stock fan profile in the original video.
Is it possible to try any gpu overclcok on GT73VR?
Tnx, Ken)

Man, that PC is sexy! I' remember you said earlier in the post, that you had a repaste done.
Did that lower the temps by any means? (- 5-10 c?) -
Is the fan 12v or 5v?
-
This has got me thinking which to choose, either the:
GT73VR Titan SLi with the 1070 (not sure if 4k or not)
or
GT73VR Titan Pro 1080 (not sure if 4k or not)
Or
Asus G75vs 1070Last edited: Aug 23, 2016 -
May we know what kind of a settings you did with gpu core and mem clock wise, and cpu wise to get that result ?

Hello,
I want to upgrade my laptop. I have doubts about getting the GT72VR, GT7273VR and the asus g752vs.
I am loving the GT73VR and I have seen that the base model is about 2100$ and that would be the maximum I want to pay. However , in my country, Spain, the cheapest i have found (shipping Sep the 12th) is 2600 €. It is The GT73VR 6RE (Titan 4K)-022ES with 16GB of Ram and two 128GB SSD.
Does anyone know if there is a chance that the 2100$ model comes to Spain?
Thank you -
maybe if you ask directly to MSI you will get that info.

Here's one with $2199.
http://www.gentechpc.com/MSI-GT73VR-TITAN-017-with-nVidia-Pascal-GTX-1070-p/msi-gt73vr-titan-017.htm
Though it's not 4k and you gotta worry about the shipping and the "tax?" I think the international shipping from gentechpc starts at $139.GenTechPC likes this. -
forget the shipping cost but the tax will be more than 200$ at that point it better to buy in his own country
+ no 4k panel
i dont think there will be a price drop in 6-7 months
because the 980m must be first out of stock
and the gtx 1040-1050 must be announced
if gentechpc could get the 4k panel they could increase there sell figures
and dont tell me that msi cant deliver 4k panels
look to ibuypower they canLast edited: Aug 23, 2016 -
Sure I can ask Sager to see if they can provide me a review unit.
Turbo fan has been this loud since it was first introduced back in 2011 on GT780. However, it's not necessary to turn it on even you are gaming. This feature is more for extreme overclocking who wants to the temperature to stay low.
Yeah it's not bad at all.
Sure I can try overclock the GPU with Turbo Fan.
The meter are wehere it should be for testing. When you doing smog check do they put the meter 5 feet away from your muffler?
Its' 12v:

I have asked them some days ago and just got the answer. They say that it is possible that a model with the two 128gb model is launched, and its supposed to be the most basic one. They cannot confirm the price. But i guess it will be the 2.6k one.... I will wait and see...
Thank you for the answer.
I think buying it overseas is not an option for me, because of the different keyboard layout. If I have to pay the taxes plus shipping and changing the keyboard, at the end, the price would be the same.
It looks like in Europe the GT73VR will start at 2600€ which is a shame.
I would hate buy the GT72VR with the 1070, because the price would be arround 2k€.
PS. between the GT72VR and the Asus g752vs, what would you pick? I dont know if the GT72VR screen will be worth the price if it doesnt have the 120hz option.
ThanksLast edited: Aug 23, 2016 -
Do any vendors have an ETA on the MSI GT73VR Titan 4K SLI model? I can't find any US vendors that even list this model for preorder yet. I've found 1070 SLI models around but none with the 4K screen:
