That's only on a single core load.
The 6820HK advertised was 4.1/39/38/37 so it's not true 4.4

What's sad about the 18.4 display is the 6-bit only color :|

Other than that I think I can live with it.

The number 6 is unlucky for you or something? ;)

The screen is good, newer panels will be better, but for now it's the only 18.4" choice, and given side by side comparisons I prefer the larger size IPS screen over a smaller TN screen.

i used these square rubber sticky pads....and stack them up in the middle of the notebook. worked great with my AW m18xr2

need about 4-5 pads depends how high you want to go...

    Cool :)

I saw a nice one that came with some recent laptop, I saw it in a video - it might have been Aorus or similar - stick on lift that's foldable - like the snap up feet on a keyboard.

I noticed these a while back - they do the proper lift in the back over the front height, or a set just like them:
    http://www.ebay.com/itm/4pcs-Notebo...262588?hash=item5b1d47b4fc:g:gOUAAOSwfZ1WXfow

and there a lots of others similar:
    http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_odk...g+feet.TRS0&_nkw=laptop+cooling+feet&_sacat=0

But, office supplies and breakroom cups do in a pinch ;)

Confirmed. minor bug. sometimes stuck no big deal. its certainly faster to boost up now than slow downs.
but easily solved by pressing the boost button 2 times on the laptop to boost down :)

this new ec firmware is great. its running my laptop alittle cooler too. PCH temps are better. love how it fixed the cpu advance fan curve 1st 20% step bug and now bonus with 6 steps.

i had recommend everyone to get on ec .108 it won't kill your raid volume or anything. only bios update will do that i think lol

who knows maybe a placebo effect :D

Have you actually looked at such things with the 18.4" display? And, what did you see?

I don't see any display problems, and I have looked at a lot of things through that screen.

And, I have seen TN's with the screen door effect, horizontal lines, and also have seen TN's with clear and awesomely crisp and well color balanced views.

I think you would be fine with the 18.4" screen at 100hz for gaming. It's response time is faster than the previously released 120hz IPS laptop display's, and for an IPS no visble blur.

Yes, I had the AW18 with the same screen as all of the 18.4" laptops save for the ASUS one.

You do get noticeable banding of color when working with pictures, in a lesser extent movies too.

I've not seen any, and I would notice it... maybe it was a problem with the image compression?

At this point, let's take this for what it is in this thread, OT, and shelve it till another time in the GT83VR thread(s) :)

But it brings up a point too.

The recent 17.3" panel in QHD res have the banding problem as you said, and it's not tied to particular manufacturer. Clevo, Aorus, Alienware all have it, some other brands too I guess.

@D2 Ultima pointed out that the AUO QHD panel is not actually 8 bit but it's a simulated 8 bit using an FRC/Dithering unit, and the banding / line problem on those screen is caused by the FRC/Dithering unit malfunctioning.

Now, the MSi 17.3" screens use Chimei and is similar to the AUO except that the resolution is FHD, I'm wondering if this chimei model is actually a 8 bit native or dithered 8 bit. AFAIK it's always been quite challenging for me to spot the difference between native 8 and dithered 8.

They aren't sound volume triggers - setting or un-setting alone won't necessarily immediately fix / break sound again, you need the same app activation sequence to occur with them enabled to cause the problem to reoccur.

To fix the app has to recognize the exclusive control change, not all will - sometimes you need to exit the app or even reboot to reset the control.

Things that can take control of sound are browser tabs that have video / audio content active, open or background games, playback apps for audio and video, and a myriad of system apps that play or record sound.

Keep the exclusive check boxes unchecked if you want multi control access to sound.

It took me a while, but I have read the whole thing and I have got a couple questions. Where you able to find a proper cable for the hdd?
I have also read that the laptop has a current limit when overclocking. What is the current limit?

Oddly, it's not dithering that's causing the "lines", it's actual manufacturing watermark on the components - IDK if it's some kind of ruled marking to assist in some part of the manufacturing, or if it's something else, but apparently it's physical and can be removed.

It sounds weird to me too, as I've seen similar horizontal lines in older TN displays that vary in effect from display to display - and laptop to laptop, but were shown to be caused by poorly spec'd driver electronics - as moving displays with the problem to another laptop without the problem showed that the problem LCD was no longer a problem on the new laptop.

IDK, you can get a similar visual effect in different ways. AW thinks theirs is physical done at the display manufacturer and have a plan to swap sold laptop's display with the problem with new displays in Feb / March - likely later as these things go, but it's possible that's the earliest a new production run could be made with the changes requested.

You should be able to undervolt between -100mV and -200mV, with many reported -150mV day to day at stock speeds, and -80mV or more at 4.0ghz on the 6820HK.

No, there are 6re with two vBios versions out there: 86.04.2b.00.14 and 86.04.31.00.0d
As there are some users with crashes in different games (black screen with colorful, vertical lines for a second and then crash to desktop), they found out in the German MSI forum, that everyone with these crashes has the 31 vBios. So two of these users flashed it to 2b and they didn't had that issue anymore.
But still it's just a suspicion. It needs more data for a proof.

Do you know what RAM they're using? There is Samsung and Micron

Not sure if its the same problem that Desktop users were having when they switched over to Micron after the supply went down yet didnt change the BIOS so there were voltage conflicts causing people to have memory issues with overclock and stock settings.

Ahhh and here I am, finally at this point in life where I ask my self: "What Phoenix does for a living...is he really a lost prince in Dubai???" :p

Jokes apart I'm with you switching for a GT73VR "because" of the keyboard/typing experience. I love Clevo and their internals.. but they really need to tailor the exterior plastic finish and remake the whole 17.3" Keyboard layout, size and mapping for special keys. I remember I got my 1st Clevo (P170hm) BECAUSE the serious/profesional/office look. Then I learnt you should never buy a product just for it looks...aka my old P170hm setting in a dark and forgotten corner of my room :D

ps: Watch out with those expensive buys.. they're starting to seem.... kind of unrealistic. I mean no offense but you could have get a cheap flight both ways to L.A for around U$800, then a U$30 Uber and get the laptop your self + buying all the ssds from a cheap Amazon.us locker or reseller. Just saying... :S

It's either the watermark or the FRC unit (D2's speculation).

However I still don't think they're foolish enough to make banding lines a "feature".

The colour space is a good deal higher too; the 1440p panel is only about 55% adobe RGB where the chi mei is 75% or so, and can have more extracted with a calibration.

If the .108 EC fixes issues with the fan control on the 6RF I wonder why MSI hasn't "officially" released it for that model? It's the same fan control system on both machines.

I thought there were reports that the banding went away if you set the display to 6 bit? That seems to imply that it's a dithering issue.

i need all that storage and I can always use them later if I ever upgrade to a new machine

because I don't want a mechanical keyboard bro

I have 9 persian cats at home, can you imagine the amount of fur that would get stuck under the keyboard? I can, I had a Corsair Mechanical keyboard before and cleaning it every day was a big headache

also, the screen is much better on the GT73VR @ 120 hz / 5ms

    Hi all,

I was having a problem and I'm not able to find anything online.

    I have:

    nVidia Shadowplay for recording.
    MSI Afterburner 4.3.0
    Rivatuner 6.5.1

I have enabled Shadowplay to record desktop. When I initiate recording: Alt + F10 (Shadowplay) it starts to record the desktop. Then I launch a game. It records fine. But when I playback the file that I recorded. I can see that I have two layers of OSD - from what I can tell. One of them is d3dx9e - and the other is the d3d11 or 12 depending on game. There seems to be 2 OSD's running simultaneously, Afterburner and Rivatuner???

I uninstalled and reinstalled - Recorded in windowed mode - Unchecked boxes in both Rivatuner and Afterburner settings. Nothing.
When I record in windowed mode you can actually see the two separate OSD's running.

    http://imgur.com/a/uOCKw

If anyone knows or has any advice please let me know.
    Thank you kindly.

For all those who were having issues like me with the "missing fan control point" in dgc, i recommend going to the new kabylake gt73vr page and downloading the 108 firmware for fans, it has given me back the missing sixth point in the fan control.

Why this hasnt been released for the skylake models officially i dont know, but as others have said before the same fan controller is used for both models so you can update without fear.

    What paste are you using?

The X Cross method is the best in my experience as once the heatsink is fitted, it provides the maximum coverage with the least air bubbles

Grizzly Hydronaut, its the one i had around.
First time i used the one grizzly recomends, spreading it evenly. Last time i used the x method which is the one I usually use and you see the resaults. Those temp are overclocking processor to 4ghz transcoding with handbrake.
