Burn Recovery was installed with all the other MSI apps out of the box. Almost as soon as I booted it up I got a message to use burn recovery to make an msi restore usb.

This is in fullscreen with G-sync enabed (when on the laptop as the TV is not G-sync compatible of course). I will try in windowed mode and see if that makes a difference and start with extreme settings and work my way down and then back up.

I tried it once without the TV hooked up and it repeatedly black screened as per usual.

Yup that sounds like the standard MSI image then :)

Always good to check with your vendor ahead of time whether they provide the makers image customized for that laptop, or if the vendor roll's their own instead.

Not necessarily bad to have a vendor OS image, but be sure and get their restore image USB / DVD included so you can recreated their build - for support at least.

MSI wants to only provide support for their image install, that's why they always ask in the first response to problem tickets to "restore the OS from recovery image" before they will debug with you.

MSI will still support "clean Windows" install, but prefer their own out of the box image and default configuration to rule out install / configuration issues done by the owner.

Yesterday, I played it again, without a second screen and without the DC shortcuts and had the black screens again. So last time it was just coincidence :(
I will do some tests, too. There MUST be a solution for that.

It looks like there have been problems before with Nvidia drivers and SC2:

    The Samsung 960 EVO 500GB M.2 PCIe 3.0 x4 NVMe 3D-VNAND SSD non RAID just costs $40 less than the 500GB (2 x 250GB) Samsung 960 EVO M.2 PCIe 3.0 x4 NVMe 3D-VNAND SSD RAID-0 though. The additional m.2 ssd HIDevolution Approved 128GB M.2 SATA 6Gb/s SSD costs $59. Is this exchange worth it?

I'll be sure to ask @Donald@HIDevolution if their OS is the same as the stock OS their offering in MSI.

A single 500GB drive leaves you an extra slot to expand your capacity later, if you get the raid of the same size it takes up 2 slots and leaves you less room for future use. The 960 EVO is a great drive.

Yes DC and external screens have no impact whatsoever.

That black screen issue is not the same as the one we are experiencing. That issue is the screen goes black and then doesn't come back. This issue is the screen goes black and then returns in 3-4 seconds. But I found someone with this same problem during the driver 350.xx and it had to do with the video driver crashing and restarting due to the driver incorrectly handly voltage increases and drops depedning on the load. No update if it was fixed so I assume it was.

So interestingly after some testing last night in extreme graphic settings, as that provokes the black screen the most, in fullscreen windowed mode it black screened far less than normal full screen mode and in regular windowed mode (about 3/4 of the screen size) it never black screened at all. Now this was around 2am and I passed out and woke up 3 hours later and for the 20min I was awake with it on regular windowed mode it never black screened.

Also very interestingly was I was playing diablo 3 last night which has given me no issues at max graphic settings and temps have always beeen mid 40s CPU/GPU but I was playing a rift with my friend and there was one point when the entire screen was filled with enemies and everything was exploding and I guess this was out of the norm because the fans kicked up to the next stage (first time in 80 hours of play) and it black screened the very same way SC2 does. It black screened, dropped HMDI connection and then returned in 3-4 seconds and I had no more sound. Only did it once as all the enemies were dead in a few seconds after and the CPU/GPU load returned to the normal load and the fans dropped to the regular speed for the game.

This leads me to think that blizzard must use a similar program across platforms that handles graphic load (I'm not well versed in computer programming so that is the best way I can explain it currently lol) as I've noticed in SC2 when you get into game after being in the menus and starting the game and the first black screen happens is usually is when the GPU load has increased enough at the start of the game that I hear the fans kick up to the next stage. After that the fans are usually in that higher stage as GPU load fluctuates ( but not enough change in temps to change fan speed ) and continues to black screen at random times...about 15-20 times in a 1h 20m game.

I hope I was clear in my findings haha. I am going to revert my video driver to the previous 376.33 and see if that changes anything as there in an unofficial reddit page with the latest driver and there are a lot of complaints and some similar to the problem we are experiencing.

Why the heck would windows try and put the card to sleep in the middle of a file transfer? I was suspecting it was a heat thing because it always seemed to hit peak speed of 4.0MB/sec on steam and then the speed would drop to 0, adapter would disconnect then disappear and then come back. Almost like a shutdown and restart. Very odd indeed.

It's just one of the fun things Windows can do when trying to save power - it doesn't always see activity the way we do.

There are indeed versions of the Killer Wifi driver and Suite that have had drop connection issues, but the latest one is supposed to be ok.

I found the power saving features cause Wifi / 3G LTE drops myself, and ever since then I always disable power saving features in devices from the Device Manager control panel.

Also check the device options for entries that look like power saving features - disable them too.

Please try it, reboot, and let us know if that fixes it :)

I don't really get why a lot of people are complaining about their RAID 0s? Is there a lot of errors/failures happening to these set-ups? Should I be concerned about getting this? I don't think I need the change in speed that much if there is a chance of a failure. I've read a lot of comments regarding the need to uninstall their RAID 0. They even send it back to where they bought it to have it fixed. I don't want the hassle of this as the Shipping here in our country is bad and it'll take a lot of days before I can use it again if bad comes to worse. Thanks for the response!

Are you using the suite or the driver only package? What is a good third party way to test my wireless so I can see what works when I delve into this.

yes killer performance suit installed version 1.1.57.1126

no idea about to test the wireless, I think killer suit has built in function to test wireless...in 4 months use of this laptop, I only check killer wireless suit once.....and it's keep running, never ever disconnect or reconnect or drop in speed or any other known or unknown issues....

I got one question for those having issues with the wireless card, is it a 1535 or 1435 on the 73VR? On my GT62VR i got the 1435 which even on latest drivers only package (downloaded from the killingnetworking website) randomly disappears from device manager when the laptop is in sleep mode. I disabled the power saving features and even tried to uninstall the drivers to reinstall from scratch but that didn't help. I'm running out of ideas and i have seen that even other high-end models got these issues. My question is, does your adapter also disappear from device manager thus having no connection until you shut the laptop down and start it?

Perhaps i could try to install older drivers that came up with the laptop as someone said, but where do i find them? :D i have also taken a burn recovery backup, could they be there? :D sorry for bumping in but i have been trying to fix this problem since i bought the laptop and updated to w10 anniversary update :v

Does anyone have an updated vbios for 1070m? because the last one (86.04.31.00.0D) is faulty, it crashes everytime, it does not matter if i overclock or not, GTA 5 and Bioshock infinite crashes ALWAYS....

I read whole thread, I thought the vbios you were talking about unlocked but it looks like all vbios of 1070 are nvidia signatured...and I m quite sure no one here flashed vbios of 1070 / 1080 for any reason yet....

On side note, I have 1080 updated vbios and like to update....by any chance do you know any good guide / tool to update vbios....?

How long has this been happening to you? Has it only been with your GT73? I need to know because I'm going to try whichever driver is the one before you started experiencing these issues and see if there is a difference.

As it stands so far, D3 with enough GPU load has the same issue, would be hard to replicate though, and no crashes with NON full screen windowed mode in SC2 on extreme graphics setting. I will confirm again tonight with SC2.

Mine is on the UPS truck going back to the hospital. Last time it went to 901 Canada Court, City of Industry, CA. This time it's going to 9440 Telstar Avenue, Suite 5, El Monte, CA. It's good to know it's going to be in a comfortable suite. :D Besides the ram problem, I'm also having them fix the bezel again.

Could I also use this RAM from Crucial without any ill effects? I know the base RAM is Kingston but this Crucial Memory is rated the same specs so does anyone think I would have any problems mixing this 16GB of Crucial with the base 16GB Kingston that is already in the system?

Yup, that's the point of the recovery partition and USB flash boot recovery drive, to let you get back to the out of the box configuration - original drivers and all :)

Be sure to backup your own stuff, and disconnect other USB storage and internal storage you don't want erased - including the HDD where the recovery partition is housed.

The 32GB USB recovery flash drive has all you need for the restore, so only leave in the boot SSD M.2, nothing else - as all storage found other than the flash drive will get formatted and re-partitioned!

I looked, and Killer Wireless only has 1 set of current drivers up, and no link for historical versions... odd - they used to have all of the old ones going pretty far back.

    Anyway, good luck :)

Do you have G-SYNC activated for windowed mode?
I did another test this evening: I deactivated G-SYNC and vSync in Nvidia Control Center and played for 30min in fullscreen mode without any blackscreen! 30min is not that long, but I had to go. I will test it later again.

Yes to G sync, no to Vsync, but I run it through the TV so I figured G sync has no impact when running hdmi through the TV that doesn't support G sync. I'm assuming you run everything on extreme? I test on special elite forces 5 because the map is large and full with zerg and zerg buildings.

I will definitely try tonight with G-sync off on fullscreen.

I can also confirm that after 1h 30min of playing, in non fullscreen windowed mode (about 5/8ths of the screen in size) there was not one black screen. In full screen windowed mode it black screened twice in 1h 30min. So something is happening in fullscreen and windowed full screen (although not as much in windowed fullscreen). I will know if the G sync has anything to do with it because it black screens within the first 5-10min every time on that map. Thanks for letting me know!

Like @Maineiac12 said, spec should match....brand doesn't matter, under neath more or less they all are same....

What you need to match is
    2400MHz DDR4
    CL 17 is Latency
    Unbuffered
    Non ECC

    And you will be good....

32GB in total ram is more then enough...

With 32GB, I can have 40 to 50 chrome tab opens, watch movie in vlc and play game at same time.....lolzzzzzzz

I don't know of any other tool:

    here is an example:

Copy the nvflash folder to the root of C:\ and place your VBIOS file in it as well

name it something easy like nvflash without any version number for ease of access:

Run Command Prompt As Admin by pressing the Window + X Button on your keyboard then choose Command Prompt (Admin)

type cd\ to go back to the root of C:\

type cd nvflash to enter the nvflash folder

copy/paste the below command and substitute the BIOS Flash name highlighted in blue with the name of YOUR BIOS File name

    nvflash64 -i0 -6 161A.rom

accept the warning, your screen will flash as the GPU is temporary is disabled

then you will get a prompt to reboot, do that

If for any reason you notice your GPU is not active, simply go to device manager and re-enable it

According to MSI there has only been one bios release for the 7RF Kaby Lake model. Even though it says .308 on the website it is the same file as the .30A that some machines have shipped with. The system won't let you flash the same bios version over itself so it fails.

I tried disabling all the power saving features and it lessened the frequency but I'm still getting drops and horribly uneven transfer speeds. I've got my iphone connected to the same wifi and I get consistent speed tests on the phone while the laptop is all over the place. I've ordered an Intel 8265 from the folks at HIDEvolution and hopefully that will solve my problem.

Very nice! You're a braver man that I, that's for sure. I've got the bios file to share if anyone wants it but I've not tried flashing it myself. LOL
