Hi Phoenix,
Thanks for fast comment, you are doing a great job on this forum. I will order the max cooling mod from HIDevolution, this is the main reason I am buying from them in the first place. I have seen your initial review and the sweet sweet temps on your benchmarks with the thermal paste, pads and bottom panel mod.
What I am curious about is the additional cooling you got by updating the Bios and tweaking it. I'd appreciate if you can tell me if you now if the same config is available for i7-8850H and point me in the right directions.
I have another question, what games do you all play on your rig and did you find anything that forces you to not have all the games config at maximum so far.

As for the games, I put every single game on max and forget about it. The GTX 1080 can easily handle it.
Here are some of the games I play:
- Doom
- Battlefield
- FIFA 2019
- Need For Speed Payback
- Tekken 7
- Street Fighter V
- Resident Evil 7 Biohazard
- Ryse: Son of Rome
- Counterstrike: Global Offensive

It is done.
The beast is ordered and I am waiting for HIDevolution to custom build it and send it.
The thrill is real and the wait will feel long.
During the 2-3 weeks wait I would like to prepare to be ready to tweak it immediately at reception. Could you guys please guide me through the different steps or point me in the direction of the posts where you have have given this information ?Spartan@HIDevolution likes this. -

New BIOS E17A3IMS.110 for MSI GT75 Titan (8th Gen)
and latest drivers from this thread:
MSI GT75 TITAN Drivers (8th gen)
Once you get it, when you first turn it on and get the initial Windows 10 Setup Wizard, it will prompt you to connect to a Wireless Network, click on SKIP on the bottom right otherwise you will be forced to login with a Microsoft account which I strongly advice against.
Also, when it prompts you to enter a password, leave the blank for now as during our tweaking session, we will need to reboot a lot and that will just slow us down.
First thing I want you to do to save us time is to right click on your start menu button, then choose SYSTEM, from there, hit Rename This PC and choose a name for your computer. (ie. I name mine TITAN). The name should be in capital letter. Some of the tweaks are tied to the PC name and thus, you want to name it properly from the get go rather than keeping the default random name which Windows assigns it ( DESKTOP-999-BLABLABLA)
Next, go to PC Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and perform all the Windows updates. After rebooting, check for updates again just to make sure there aren’t any more updates
The moment you are in Windows, go ahead and do all the Windows updates which will take a long time, then download and install TeamViewer then run it, it will give you an ID/Password which you could pass on to me via a PM so I can connect to you.
You won't be able to PM me unless I PM you first so what you want to do is, when you get it, just tag me by using the @ sign then type my username right after it with no spaces and I will PM you then

Well, this is a seriously nice offer, thanks a lot ! I'd be happy to accept your help if you have all settings ready made and easily transferable.
However I would not want to take too much of your time it it means to do all that one by one. This is all very well explained and straightforward, I can get to work and do it one by one myself I think.
A few comments :

I have asked HIDevolution for a clean install of Windows and the USB Stick with it. Is the exact same procedure we are talking about here ?

Do you intend/recommend to do ALL that ?
O&O ShutUp10 - Do not use Windows 10 without it!
No words. This is absolutely awesome.
Macrium Reflect Installation/Usage Guide
Will it save all the other settings made above ?
And one more :
Are there some MSI software you'd recommend to keep or everything shuld be thrown out the window ?
Thanks a lot ! -
Spartan@HIDevolution Company Representative
The tweaks? not all of them, but most of them, the ones that most should use.
After setting up your computer and tweaking it, when you take an image with Macrium Reflect, it basically creates a recovery image with every single file/setting that you've made up to that point so when things go bad or you feel your computer is not acting as it should, you can simply restore that perfect image which you made and you will be back in business in the matter of a few minutes.
Everything from MSI is good except don't ever install the MSI Dragon Center. It messes your computer's VR Current limits which would in turn make your CPU throttle and not perform to its maximum potential. -
Hi @Ultra Male,
Thanks for your replies, it's straightforward and crystal clear.
I will attempt to input the tweaks myself in a first time and not abuse of your time. I'll cry for help if I hit a wall.
Regarding the the first tweaks, with a HIDevolution clean install, do you still recommend to format at reception and go through all the process displayed on NBR Windows 10 Clean Installation Guide to install Windows anew, or can I skip this part and jump directly to Installing Windows and Initial Configuration Post Installation. I am asking because in your initial post your recommended first step is to go through this and launch Windows update.
I suppose it is a matter where @Donald@HIDevolution can also help answer. -

I'm still experiencing these terribly annoying network freezes when I play games using the LAN port. They are random and infrequent but can happen at the worst times when playing online. Has there been a fix for this yet? They never happen when I play over wireless.

Before extracting any of the files you downloaded, make sure you read this: "Are you sure you want to run this file?" [Yes or No] -
Thanks @Ultra Male. My version is 2.1.5.0 so I'll install this and see how it goes.

Then feel free to tag me when you get it if you want me to tune it for you.
Here are the Ultra Male Tweaks:
1- Uninstallation of all the Windows Store Garbage Apps like 3D Paint, Print 3D, Alarms & Clock, Feedback Hub, Maps, Groove Music, News, Weather, etc.
2- Removing all Windows 10 Privacy Invasion stuff like Telemetry, sending your keystrokes to Microsoft, automatically installing suggested apps in the background, allowing Microsoft to conduct experiments on your laptop, disabling automatic driver updates through Windows updates, disabling Windows 10 ads, disabling Cortana, Cloud Search etc.
3- Disabling Microsoft Edge from starting up automatically in the background upon reboot.
4- Adjusting a lot of options in PC Settings like disabling Windows Tablet Mode (you have a laptop not a tablet), disabling suggestions appearing in the start menu, disabling automatically connecting to Paid WiFi Hotspots, disabling Game DVR which reduced performance in games, and a lot more.
5- Replacing Cortana with a much better search tool that finds results instantly called Everything which finds any file you want as soon as you start typing even a few letters of its name and it doesn't even rely on the Windows Indexing Service to do this!
6- Restoring the classic Windows Photo Viewer
7- Restoring the Classic Windows 7 Start Menu
8- Removal of the new and useless 3D Objects Folder that appears when you open "Computer"
9- Completely disabling Windows Defender from its roots (including all scheduled tasks and startup files) for those who want to install their own AV. ESET NOD32 Antivirus is highly recommended if you want the utmost security with the least system performance impact.
10- Updating all drivers to the latest versions in case they weren't up to date.
11- Disabling the performance hit that is caused by the Meltdown and Spectre patches recently released by Microsoft (optional, only if you don't mind having this security vulnerability and would rather have your CPU's full performance back)
12- Overprovisioning your SSD anywhere between 10-20% depending on how much space you can spare to ensure optimal and consistent performance at all times.
13- Blocking the Google Chrome Software Reporter Tool (which causes a high system load when it is scanning files)
14- Preventing Microsoft Edge from running on startup in the background
15- Creating a system restoration image using Macrium Reflect

Hiya everyone. I'm close to ordering a GT75 from HIDevolution. Has anyone tried the UHD screen? I'm not going to play games on it but edit videos and photos on them. The UHD seems to have 100% Adobe RGB which should be much better than the 120Hz 1080p screen. However, the webpage says IPS level so I guess it is still a TN screen.
Thanks everyone!

Hiya Ultra Male. Thanks for the input. Yes, those are pretty good values.
Yes 4k monitor is a bit tricky on a laptop. But is not the scaling much better these days in different programs? Windows scaling seems to be pretty ok and most software has built in scaling. I have 2 32" monitors at home that are UHD and it works fine on them at least. For photo and video it is pretty valuable with 4k, but the look of the image is even more important.
Does anyone know how many nits the 4k monitor has. As I understand the 1080p is about 270 nits. Would be cool to hear from someone that has tried them. I looked at lower end MSI I think the GF62 and I did not light the screen at all. It had a pinkish cast and it would not show any highlights at all. Hopefully these bigger laptops have much better screens than that one. I tested a Predator Helios 144Hz and it had very strong and 3d mentional highlights, it was not as flat. Tricky is to see these laptops in real life here in UK.
Any tips are of course welcome

Does any one know of it possible to use a 330w power brick and not the 2x230w ?
The system is i9 and gtx 1080 -
Btw, got some information about the UHD screen. 100 Adobe RGB, 1000 contrast and 400 nits accoring to the specs. So on paper great!

The Delta 330W PSU can somewhere above 380W from the wall before it shuts down. I know it's been tested as being able to pull 380W from the wall.
The 1080 pulls 200w, so if your CPU is averaging over 110W consistently in games, you are going to be cutting it close (as there's other things that require power too).
It's almost impossible outside of prime95+3d benchmark to make an overclocked 7820HK + GTX 1080 pull over 330W. I can barely make a 230W TDP modded GTX 1070 + 7820HK pulling 100W in prime bypass 330W, unless I unplug the battery and hack the EC RAM to remove the emergency throttling that is set when the battery is disconnected (if the battery is installed when pulling over 300W, it will drain heavily from the battery combined with the AC Adapter).
tl;dr: with an 8950HK, if it's overclocked and you're playing recent games that draw more than 100W from the CPU, I would not use the 330W by itself.
If you're playing a game that uses more than 8 threads, and are overclocked past 4 ghz, definitely don't use the 330W PSU.
The Eurocom 780W PSU is extremely expensive and overkill but it does work. There is apparently a smaller 500W+ version of this PSU you can buy from China or maybe ebay or Aliexpress. -
Regarding the Alienware 17r5, reading reviews here and there, I think this rig gets hotter than the MSI GT75, this is what turned me away from it. With laptops this powerful cooling is very important. MSI GT75 is also supposed to have a better keyboard and sound system. -
The keyboard on the MSI is hands down the best keyboard on any laptop. I know of no other mechanicals on a laptop and that is what truly sold me on it.
-
Would it be possible to make the system quit in some situations XX I was think of running at 4.2 ghz and under volt .. with that keep it quit -
The laptop is actually pretty quiet when not under serious load thanks to the larger cooling system. The loadline BIOS fixes already drop temps, and thus noise, a significant amount. Undervolting is an option but I doubt the gains will be all that much. Besides, why by an uberlaptop if only to put it in chains?

@knibbler used his GT83 with a 330w instead of 2x230w
I'd get a Kill A Watt or some such plug in power meter to plug the 330w PSU into - between the wall and the PSU - and tune the CPU / GPU for your usage profile while mobile - no OC'ing, and no heavy duty full performance loading.
At worst you wouldn't charge while using the 330w near maximum load, but I think you could tune it to allow charging too.
The same detuning for power use reduction should also reduce the fan noise at the same time, but you could take it even further and have a "quiet" mode profiles for everything that reduces the power and noise even further.
Please let us know how it works out for you.Last edited: Nov 30, 2018 -

The most important, if you buy from HIDevolution, is to ask for Thermal Grizzly Conductonaut on CPU + GPU and Fujipoly Extreme Thermal Pads to be added, and the bottom service panel ventilation Modified. Ultra Male posted a review with some benchmarks of the temperature he gets with these modifications on his laptop and those are sweet temperatures. I think I will add benchmarks of the MSI GT75 Titan 8RG-056 temps when I receive it, but I expect them to be even lower.
With all this mods I don't expect to have to undervolt the laptop, but if I change my mind it is possible to undervolt the i7-8850H. -
@hackness
You notice any lack of performance when overclock your rams? I mean, even i have 3200 Mhz on my samsung rams, the timings will be high right? -
i have my laptop coming!!! any one know what size thermal pads I should order ? I’m going to do LM and thermal pads
