Probably still 1mm on CPU and GPU RAM/VRM block for stock.
I would use 0.5mm on CPU VRM's/CPU chokes to help "reduce" core 0/2/4 high temp issues (long story).
GPU must use 1mm.

For those that use Silent Option app, the fan curve in Auto have the same settings as Auto feature in Dragon center for 8th generation cpu?

Yes, Silent Option App read the same ec as the dc there should be no difference.

Timings no change on mine since 10/1, so far no lack of performance on mine. It's normal that you have to tune it to loose timings when OC'ing the stock RAM, but I don't really notice any penalty in real test. Maybe the stock 3467MHz or 3200 RAM can have lower timings, but the latency achieved still isn't too far off, at 53.9ns on mine. I wouldn't worry about it.
By the way @Pedro69 , see if you can find another stick, make it dual channel, and go for read speed 48GB/s or more

Anyone else have this issue yet?
https://www.reddit.com/r/MSILaptops..._bought_the_msi_gt75_8rg_and_have_nothing_but
Gist of it is that the newest Win10 build screws up the internet connection somehow. It won't connect to Microsoft services (like Update or Activation) and many sites won't load without constantly deleting cookies (even Gmail for me). -
Btw, is there a guide/manual for Dragon Center and all of its features/uses/options?

On the reddit post, seems like it's just this person and another person who has the issue. It's probably a rare issue as a result from the OS upgrade.Papusan likes this. -
We have the same issue at the german MSI Forum with a new GS65 8RF 3-5 Days in use.
The only thing which was helping was to deactivate the fast start/fast boot option in the energy plans. -
https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.windowscentral.com/how-disable-windows-10-fast-startup?amp
Is this what you're referring to, or is it something else? -
So I reinstalled from an older pre-1803 version of Windows 10 and then let it update itself. It has not gotten to the troublesome version yet, even though it says it can't find anymore updates.
BUT the problem did appear in this second to last (October I believe) version. Windows Update couldn't connect. So I disabled fast boot and the problem didn't go away.
So then I uninstalled the Killer Wi-Fi and reinstalled using Intel drivers:
https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/28275?v=t
And it seems to work. Windows finished updating. But it hasn't gotten to whatever the newest version is (1809? Nov 2018?).
Either way, it seems to be a driver issue with the Killer Wi-Fi. Not sure if it's only MSI laptops experiencing it at the moment though.Last edited: Dec 3, 2018 -
Do you guys recommend keeping the preinstalled MSI truecolor and dragon center?
Also, is best way to undervolt in BIOS or is Intel XTU enough? I used Intel XTU for my old Alienware primarily and it worked great, though it was annoying to have to constantly re-apply the settings. -

Killer drivers are ancient, they're like 4 month old now.
these are the latest Intel driver which will work on the Killer 1550 since they're the same Intel card but rebranded with the Killer crap:
Killer 1550/Intel WLAN Driver 20.100.0.4/ Bluetooth 20.100.0.4

Whatever changes you do to the settings in XTU or BIOS will be reset after you reboot by Dragon Center.
For example, you need to up the ICCProcessorCache AKA VR Current limit to 200A from the default 144A to prevent throttling but Dragon Center keeps resetting it back to default.
So uninstall Dragon Center then do the changes you want with either XTU or the BIOS if you have the unlocked BIOS if you bought it from HIDevolution or gotten the unlocked BIOS from Svet on the MSI Forums -
Spoke too soon... everything works except Google Chrome which is being finicky as hell as soon as I sync it to my Chrome profile. Tried Chrome beta, doesn't work either. I have no idea what to do except just not use Chrome anymore. What a weird problem to have.
Edge/Explorer work fine. Everything else seems to work fine. -
Updated wifi driver to 20.100.0.4 and Chrome still doesn't work. Everything else but Chrome works. Wtf...

Hello!
My MSI GT75 Titan 8RG-018NE CPU i7 8850h temperature on idle is 67-80 celsius. What to do? -
First thing is doing a undervolt about 150mv, if that not work just repaste the cpu.raad11 likes this.
-
What turbo ratio settings for the 8850H do you guys recommend? Intel XTU and Dragon Center allowed changing it (though I uninstalled the latter). Was that just to push all cores to the max 44? (Normally only 1 core hits highest).
Or something else? Or leave it at default?
Any other settings to change?

I think that you only will get a stable system at 4.3Ghz in all 6 cores.

Hey so.. I know people don’t generally like BGA junk books but I ordered my msi gt75 with the i7 8850h GTX 1080 so I was wondering if we can tinker with the BIOS and get max performance with stable cores and thermals on it.. I’ll be receiving mine from HIDevolution and can’t wait to optimize it. Any information is much appreciated
(i didn’t have the budget to go for the i9 sadly in order to get the screen ,thermals, ram and storage upgrades)

That is not an undervolt issue! Either the heatsink is bad or the thermal paste is crapPapusan likes this. -
Yeah, fix the underlying problem before you undervolt. The opposite way is only to fool yourself.Djadit and Spartan@HIDevolution like this.

Hi guys,
I'm wondering if it is possible to use Bitlocker on MSI GT75? Apparently you should ideally have a hardware chip called TMP, but intel also has a chip. There seems to be a way of doing it without it but then you need bios support.
I make computer games for companies and they need this security if the laptop gets stolen.
Cheers,

Or both.

I doubt that the laptop presents 80 º C only in idle.

BitLocker works just fine on the GT75. I use the laptop as a work machine and have it turned on.Pedro69 likes this.

Bitlocker is annoying. Nothing like having a lock symbol by your drive and a key you can't lose. Yes it works.
-
So a quick test in XTU reveals that under its built-in CPU stress test (only 5 min though), on stock voltage (removed hidevolution's undervolt), it peaks at 90-91 C on one core (sometimes Core 0, sometimes Core 2) but spent like 99% of the time below 90 C in the 80s. That's alright I guess? I didn't prop up the back of the laptop.
Undervolting by 0.145 brought it down so that it peaked at 81 C, a full ten degree drop. What are the average undervolts people are achieving on these chips?
This is way better than my old Alienware which was on stock paste. Games are not going to come near the temps that a CPU stress test would anyway. My Alienware never hit over 80 C while gaming in Overwatch for example, my primary game and hit 80-81 C in only heavy duty games. Then again this is a completely different CPU. That was a crappy 6700HQ, this is an 8850H. I expect that the 8850H should be a hotter chip to begin with, am I wrong?
So I think I have a little overhead to increase the turbo core speeds. I'll experiment and see what temps I get.
Another question, do games use all 6 cores? I.e, if I put 4.3 GHz on 3 or 4 cores, is that enough for games? Or is the 6-core ratio the only one that will matter for games? That said, is it possible to lock a game onto 4 cores and bump the 4-core ratio to 4.4 GHz? Would that even be beneficial?
I haven't bothered benching anything except a quick comparison with my old systems in Userbenchmark.com:
This GT75: https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/12662837
My desktop: https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/12684740
My old Alienware 15R3: https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/3729935 (SSD test is different)
My old i5-2500k desktop: https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/3729780 (SSD test is different) (This is now my beast of a Plex server, lol... what an amazing generation of chips)
Also, 417.22 driver decreased GPU result for everything for some reason (in the Parallax test) -
Btw, what can I use to control fan speed? Does this thing push the fans to 100% easily as soon as temps get over 70 C (i.e, not tuned for quiet) or is there a BIOS setting somewhere? Or is there a good program you recommend for that?

I just leave them on Auto and they spin up when they reach a certain threshold. If I wanna run a stress test or benchmark, I set them to max speed by pushing the button on the right next to the keypad. It's the 2nd oneraad11 likes this. -
Asking this for someone else. He bought a GT75 during Black Friday, and all is well, other than there not being an option to set up G-Sync under the Nvidia Control Panel.
Do you guys know why G-Sync wouldn't be showing, and how he can go about getting it enabled? -
This is a picture of his NVCP:

This *ONLY* happens if that laptop is modified with a monitor it did not originally come with and was not validated for gsync in the bios via the gsync cookie.
This was not a new laptop, was it ?raad11 likes this. -

I've had my first GT73VR Titan Pro with this problem, no amount of VBIOS or BIOS flashing fixed it. I had to have the unit replaced and the 2nd one had GSYNC, exact same model and specs.

Yeah it's 100% brand new, he bought it from Newegg. Not refurb, open box, or anything like that.
I remember that thread, we couldn't figure out what it was and HID replaced it if I'm remembering correctly.
BTW, I did just check in with someone else with a GT75, and they said theirs shipped with no G-Sync out of the box, but updating the BIOS caused it to appear after the restart. -
Falkentyne Notebook Prophet
Maybe try an older Nvidia driver? These new drivers have been hopelessly bugged for ages.
I checked the MSI site and all of these laptops are supposed to have G-sync. -
Spartan@HIDevolution Company Representative
Riiight you just reminded me I've seen a few variants of the GT75 that had issues with GSYNC out of the box but a simple BIOS update fixed it. They were the 054 or 05X variants basically not the 094 or 093 variant (I have the 094)
Try this and if it works, send me a virtual cookie:

I am on the latest nVIDIA Driver from MSI which is: nVIDIA Graphics Driver 399.21
nVIDIA Graphics app to get the NVCPL back in the MSI Drivers: http://download.msi.com/uti_exe/nb/ap_399.21_P27160_WIN32UX_3.14.1.48_0xfe5fedc9.zip
Weird thing, when I am installing the nVIDIA Driver from nVIDIA, it takes ages to check for compatibility in the beginning then installs. the MSI variant finishes the compatibility check almost instantly and installs in like 1/3 of the time the nVIDIA one takesraad11 likes this. -
Why do you use the nvidia driver from msi and not the latest nvidia driver from their own site?

Bad moment....my GT75 8RG dont boot up and even msi logo dont appear.
I was testing a xmp profile and last one put my laptop in a dead state....
Tried the 60 seconds without battery and still the same...the msi logo never show up in the screen(infinite loops).
Should RMA? Cmos battery is impossible to remove since is in the other side of motherboard :/
Also pressed the Cmos button for some seconds and nothing happens...i removed hdd, ssd, ram and still not boot with msi logo.Last edited: Dec 8, 2018 -

You have to remove CMOS battery to clear the setting, otherwise you have to send it in.Pedro69 likes this. -
But there is no other methods that do the same as remove the Cmos battery? Like 60 seconds press power button or Cmos reset button?Last edited: Dec 8, 2018

Its really needed remove the Cmos battery and perhaps the other Ram stick behind the motherboard?
I removed AC power and pressed the power button for 60 seconds, then again without AC power i tried switch on the laptop and the red light is off and laptop stay without energy.
Then i put again power supply and the laptop boot at same stage without msi logo. -
Spartan@HIDevolution Company Representative
That's what I do to reset the BIOS when it can't boot. Turn the laptop off then hold the power button for 60 seconds. Ignore it if it keeps turning on/off just keep holding it for 60 seconds that should reset your BIOS.
