I have already 4x256GB M.2 SSD, but I need more data for the data. I see just the Seagate-Samsung spinpoint 2TB (around 100USD~EURO), I was wondering if any real alternative here since we have just 1x2,5" space ... and in my case all the M.2 slot full.... (no plan at the moment to move to 4x512GB M2 drives).

Why not? 4x1TB is "cheap" now...it was $220, now $260... maybe wait for a nice sale to hit...

    Sandisk SD8SN8U-1T00-1122 X400 1TB M.2 2280 Solid State Drive - $254
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA65C3RM4403

A little better $259 Amazon Prime:
    https://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-SD8SN8U-1T00-1122-X400-M-2-SSD/dp/B0194MV300

    I had a Seagate 2.5" 2TB, for 1 day, 85MB/sec throughput, very slow in the GT80.

    Longevity reviews aren't good either.

    $1000 for 4TB (4x1TB M.2 SATA) is cheaper than a single 2.5" 4TB SSD - $2700

Sandisk Optimus MAX 4 TB 2.5" Internal Solid State Drive SDLLOCDR-038T-5CA1
    https://www.amazon.com/Sandisk-Optimus-Internal-Solid-SDLLOCDR-038T-5CA1/dp/B00MET68CY

And, a 4x1TB RAID0 should do well performance wise too :)

Cloud storage, archive what you can, delete the rest, migrate what you can onto cheap USB Thumb drives :)

First, lighten the load on the 4x256GB, delete all the game installs, delete all the restore points, disable hibernation - hyberfil.sys and disable pagefile. Off-load all you can that you can recreate or download.

Then do a Macrium image backup of the 4x256TB to an external drive, and use the default sparse image backup - only backup sectors in use, and use maximum compression.

Then create a Macrium recovery boot usb to use when restoring onto the 4x1TB RAID0 volume.

It's safe and quick, relatively - depending on how fast your external storage is.

I am somewhat happy that 1TB SSDs, even in m.2 sata mode, are getting very cheap. I think I will make a storage upgrade soon :)

Hi y'all. My Sager 9370 died after 3.5 years of great service. So I've ordered
MSI GT80S TITAN SLI-274. It's in inventory gathering phase.
I've ordered 32GB (2x16GB) G.Skill DDR4 2800MHz Dual Channel Memory. Overkill? Since the Skylake supports "only" 2133MHz? Will I see any benefit of shelling out $200 extra?

I also upgraded the SSD to512GB Samsung 950 Pro M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD. Expensive as <->. But I had to. Curious about this bad boy.

I guess I'll see. In 2 months or however long it'll take XOTIC to build and ship that thing. :)

BTW how are those Samsung 950's work for you?

What's the difference between GT80S 274 and 02? I can't see any on XOTIC website besides the price.

    Nevermind. I found it. It's the SSD(s).

Too bad my trusty old Sager didn't wait with dying a little bit longer.
But it's always the case. Once I get some top shelf gizmo, there will be better one in a couple of weeks. Same thing as last time. And the time before. :D

Summer's here, get outside and find a way to pass the time chasing wild-life of some kind... :)

Talk with people, interact with nature, make something with your hands - you would be surprised how many people don't use computers or game.

It's an eye-opening experience, and as long as you can side step the gold diggers, you should have enough cash for your new laptop when it is released.

Sitting by the pool is a nice way to pass the day, or night :)

This is the Specifications page, and near the top of the spec list, there are 2 buttons, one for the 274 and one for the 002, click on them and compare differences:

    Do you see anything else?

You already upgraded the 2 items that matter, and the accessories are cute, but not critical...

Yes, the limitations of the job... but there are places along the way to stop and smell the roses, or snow :)

Putting a few gaps in the delivery schedule might open up time to enjoy the places you zoom by every day...

There are a few cheaper 1x 980m systems out there to tide you over, and maybe some bargains coming up, and even now if you negotiate - the sales must be slowing down a bit, due to people waiting for the 1080m/1070m to ship.

It is very flat overall. However we do have some river "canyons" that many folks don't know about, a 70ft waterfall, the sandhills, while only hills, are far from flat, and the eastern part of the state is hilly and more tree covered. Lots of rivers and lakes for fishing and canoeing, the largest human planted forrest in the US, and we're smack in the middle of the US so it's easy to get to either coast. Easy commutes, get good gas mileage as the highways are flatter areas, not many people so no traffic to speak of (Omaha excepted but we don't claim it as out own, it's almost Iowa afterall). Plus no hurricanes or earthquakes, just the occasional tornado. Yay for Nebraska!

@ stank0 If you have any questions about your order with us, feel free to reach out to me through message or email. Just let me know your order number and I'll be glad to help out. It shouldn't take 2 months. Right now, regular build times are going through a little quicker than normal for the most part.

Hey Every one ! I am back with some results after couple days of using this beast :D !

These are my benchmark results after overclocking the GPU to 135 / 400 , x40 for CPU, and redoing the test 5 times in a raw to insure maximum stress.

The temps were perfect , maxed at 67 C for GPU and 78 C for CPU , having fans on max using the fan button.

As i understood from the pages in the thread these results are good and temps are perfectly normal. And i made it to the top 5 in the benchmark list for same machine :D !

If you got any input please let me know ! Thanks !

BTW i have to share my SSD experience with you , just to know what did go wrong , and if i solved it in the right way or not.

I rebooted into BIOS and selected AHCI instead of raid , as my Samsung EVO software was showing error regarding RAID being selected instead of AHCI , while having my old EVO 840 1TB SSD installed in the main SATA bay.

The laptop did not boot , and kept going into BIOS screen for some reason , so i removed EVO 840 SSD and tried to recover the system using the backup flash drive i created once i started the laptop for the first time , I selected to recover the whole hard drive to factory settings , not the OS partition only , but the recovery tool kept showing an error message " Recovery environment is not behaving normally " every time i select the Raid 0 partition as the partition for the OS to be recovered to.

After some research i found out how to recreate the RAID 0 partition , so i deleted the original RAID 0 partition and created a new one with 16k stripe size , as i understood its the recommended stripe size for OS drives for max performance, started the recovery again and recovered the whole drive state to factory settings. I inserted my Evo SSD back in ,and booted up , every thing is back to normal except for 1 detail , before all of this mess the 2x128 GB PCIe SSDs showed up as 1 big 230 GB OS Partition , but now it shows as one 130GB OS Partition and another free 83GB partition , did not figure out how to get them into 1 partition as before.

Any idea what cused all of this to happen ? is it normal ? or did i screw up some where ?

RAID was working perfectly until i changed the type from RAID to AHCI in the BIOS , i dont know why did that got every thing to screw up.

i personaly wiped my EVO 840 to delete all the partitions using the CMD Command "diskpart" , it wiped the whole SSD and removed all the old recovery partitions on it , back to factory state.

You could change SATA mode back to RAID and the system would still boot. But if you had already performed a disk wipe using diskpart then the hope is slim.

The problem is solved now , but back when i was stuck i tried reverting back to RAID , still did not boot , some thing was wrong and screwed every thing up sadly.

What error message are you getting in RAID mode? If the array is damaged then the whole logical drive might be broken already therefore you will have to restore it using recovery discs.

The GT80 2x128 comes from MSI configured for RAID0, but silly MSI partitions the resulting 256GB volume into 2 partitions, one for OS and one for Apps (may be named differently).

It's very confusing because it looks like 2 independent disks, when it's actually 1 RAID0 volume, but 2 partitions on that same volume.

Make sure this isn't what you already have - check to see if you have a RAID volume with 2 partitions vs. 2 drive volumes.

If you already have the RAID0 with 2 partitions on it, then you don't need to redo the restore again :)

You can delete the App's partition, the hidden recovery partition, and combine that resulting free space to extend the C partition.

If the partitions are protected, which they likely are, you need to use diskpart in a cmd window - Run As Administrator to delete those partitions to gain the free space.

But, it sounds like you restored from the USB drive onto single disks, not on a RAID volume, as you left the BIOS set to AHCI. So you need to redo everything again :)

First backup everything you changed and want to save, as these directions will restore over what you have now.

Reset the BIOS, go to the Save Options and select "Optimized Defaults" - or similar, F10 save, then use the Delete key to get back in the BIOS. It may take you a couple of tries - tap the Delete key at power reset / power on until the BIOS menu shows up.

Default should have restored RAID, double check and if set to AHCI set it to RAID.

You should rebuild the RAID, use the defaults, delete the current RAID and recreate it using defaults.

You will need to change the boot option - either by setting it in the BIOS - or using the F11 key at boot time to popup the boot options menu so you can select the USB recovery drive to boot. Do this with the USB restore drive plugged in to a USB port before powering on or restarting - the BIOS won't see it if you plug it in while already in the BIOS.

Now you can F10 save and restart, and it will boot on the recovery USB flash drive, and you can restore to the RAID, which will boot ok from RAID after the restore.

If you have anything on the 1TB drive, pull it out of the computer before doing the above, as the restore will repartition the 1TB drive if it is found during the restore - effectively losing anything stored there.

    Have fun :)

Dude , i love the fact that your in depth answer will be a reference to every one who will google the problem like i did last night. Thank you so much !

Took me around 4 hours to figure out your answer last night , and over 3 attempts of recovery ! I did exactly what you said at the end, ended up with RAID in bios , recovering OS on RAID volume , and having 2 partitions in windows , 1 for OS and other is for " Data ".

Now i just want to delete the " Data " Partition and expand the OS , duno how to do it as i am afraid that diskpart will wipe every thing clean and leave me with clean RAID partition with no OS on it.

But my main qustion is , why did this happen in the first place ? why my laptop could not recognize the RAID volume that i had before i changed the BIOS from RAID to AHCI and then back to RAID again ? How come changing from RAID to AHCI ruined the RAID 0 Volume that i had to delete it and create a new one ? I am kinda pretty basic with HDDs and SSDs and such things , so excuse my questions if they sounds a bit too noob.

Thank you so much for your answer once more ,you are a true hero :D <3

Some tinkering around and i was able to delete all the recovery partitions on the RAID 0 Volume , and extending the OS partition to the full size of RAID 0 !

Thank you so much @hmscott ! you are a life savior :) <3

    Hello everyone,
I just received my gt80 yesterday and I discovered that the battery is unremovable.
I plan on using it as a desktop computer so I will have it plugged in all the time.
Wouldn't that damage the battery ?
On another note, my gt80 is qwerty and I was wondering if I could swap a couple keyboard letters to make it look like an azerty.
    Thanks.
