I have this weird issue with the keyboard that (any) Shift+2 come out as " and Shift+' comes out as @..
Sometimes it reverts back to usual but sometimes it's weird like that for some reason..

You're right. My bad. There wasn't desktop 680. It's been quite a while since I visited that thread. I remember people saying the AW laptops with GTX680m run much cooler.

aw 18" had 1 cooling model for each GPUs and 1 for CPU too but they aren't shared. in a way i quite like how GT83 is gonna be if cooling isnt changed much from GT80s, assuming they added a module for CPU ONTOP of that still have two end to end giant fans shared for GPU/CPU too. during regular workload rather than gaming, CPU would be ultra cool with 3 fans working on it would be amazing.. except fact that @hmscott won't agree with me 4.0-4.2ghz is a pathetic overclock ;)

Well.. Again. Look at my old Sager 9370. It had 3 fans a well and I can't say it made that big of a difference: For those, who can't see small letters:,

Yes... I sent it in for repairs, got it back, and it worked. Two days later it stopped working (black screen, unresponsive keyboard), so I sent it in again. Did you experience this too?

whats the capacity of your cpu cooling module, heat pipes #? what was your chip voltage? and no i wouldnt consider cpuz accurate lol. was your fan running at max speed? what was your thermal paste?, pressure to the heatsink and cpu? room temp? etc etc

theres a lot of thing to look into to really determine if it was a good machine. great cooling design, air flow, hardware etc.

imho, as a customer should have responsibility to know what they are buying for, to an extent. of course there are always people out there who knows more and tbh more the better, especially being an enthusiast, i mean we pay big bucks for it and wanted power. when someone tweaked as much as possible to what they know and still gets poor result then we can *safely determine that its bad hardware.

donno tbh can only guess. some assumption will be correct though based on the way things are going and can only get worse because intel wants control!!!. soldered BGA chip will remain at crappy binned and lowly clocked, means high voltage high temperature, so thumbs up to gt83 giving it an additional cooling module assuming they dont take away the shared GPU fans idea..

everything else hoping to see that optical slot changed to sata 6gbps so i dont have to mod and rewiring myself, its a pain and doesnt look good at all once disassembled.

If Clevo sticks with mainstream desktop cpu, we might see 6 cores in late 2017. Since Cannonlake mainstream desktop parts are supposed to be landing in late 2017.

i just have a bad feeling. cannonlake is suppose to come sept/oct of 2017 but with this road map, intel might delay it due to bad yields, i dont get why they would put 6c on 14nm and not 10nm as 10nm technically should run a tad cooler.

clevo's quality is decent especially their new laptops. the old ones had crappy plastic chassis. word of device though. its natural we look at the reviews to save ourselves time and headache when issue arrise but if you understand a lot about hardware/computers then most of the time, hardware failure shouldnt exceed a certain percentage and you can safely deem those review bogus or just people not understanding, blaming w/e they can lol.

manufacturing hardware, a percentage would go bad and be found via quality check, and then some are borderline which passes quality check and gets out and eventually cause issue, same amount to be said with any other laptop tbh.

point im trying to make is, if its not hardcore hardware failure like poorly soldered vram in past GPUs then no need to pay attention to those review that mention nothing about details except, i pay for computer and it broke down on me and now doesnt work after XXX days, as it could be any number of issue/hardware causing it.

most OEM get parts from other manufacturer too, chipset, graphics, vram, display etc etc. they simply sell the brand.

damn if they did that would suck, would prevent me from buying them if they simply just removed fan sharing and give cpu an additional cooling module. i'd only buy a BGA junk if cooling is superior and clocked to a bare minimum amount that i can accept lol. 4.2 is still acceptable.. sigh*

where do u see it is lighter?

From the pictures, I thought the GT83 was even bigger than GT80, but it might be the changes in design. I also don't think it's lighter as it seems to be the same, or bigger.

It could be a typo too :)

Where are you seeing the new weight? The new product page? If it's not a product page yet, all the info hasn't been published yet - there is more to come. URL's?

If MSI really did lighten it that much they will want to mention it, and how they did it - new light materials - or some new component - like a lighter keyboard for example - or stronger lighter frame. Carbon fiber?

Or, MSI will just publish the corrected weight.

Adding another fan and cooling components should have made it a bit heavier.

Besides the battery - 1.5lb's is larger than any single component - so there would be a number of changes that would allow that kind of weight difference.

i was gonna lose sleep over this. i almost have the gt83 set on my next machine man. well might still go with gx800 but chances of that is pretty slim.. gx800 doesnt come with any sata 6gbps port only 3x nvme PCIE ssds. putting 3 in raid 0, kinda dumb lol.

3 in raid 0, a prime example of marketing the numbers to fool the masses :). 1 or 3 in raid there is almost no difference except for high QD and write cache. infact for consumer level based, 1 SSD is actually faster due to less latency overhead.

some interesting rumor about mobile gtx 1080 being timed exclusive for MSI laptops. and mobile 1070 having more cores than desktop parts but runs at lower clockspeed. (basically, rumored 1080m with 2048 cores is actually mobile version of 1070), and 1060 being identical with desktop part with slightly lower speeds.

    https://benchlife.info/geforce-gtx-1070-for-mobile-07202016/

    Its in Chinese btw.

This is english article discussing the leak from chinese article.

    http://www.digitaltrends.com/computing/nvidia-pascal-mobile-gpus-gtx1070-gtx1060/

1080 timed exclusivity with MSI is mentioned in Chinese article but not in English one.

Interesting news. I imagine that they used the 2048 core GPU as a 1070 since it was already designed and produced, plus its performance was basically inline with a 1070.

As for exclusive 1080, that would be rather big. But I am not sure if its true. It's a bit too big, don't you think? Then again, 1080 can only be used in like 8 laptop models hahaha due to the TDP and power requirements.

imo all pointless if msi can't use two 1080 with it's overclocked cpu it'll just power throttle. each 1080 overclock easily goes upwards 180w, with two we have got 360w lol. 330w psu isn't gonna help so what to do now MSI, dual PSU just like asus?

I would imagine Asus pulling off with that kind of stuff but hard to imagine MSI doing it lol.

If MSI was indeed thinking about doing full 1080 on Sli, they better use Dual PSU or would make zero sense in doing so.

Nah, This is unlikely, and 450w would still be on the limit regarding desktop 1080s. People would complain again that there is battery drain. It's easier to keep using the same PSUs just add more, instead of making a new PSU just for a single model of a laptop.

Even 660w with 2x330w won't be enough for 2 x 1080 desktop mobile + 95w CPU under maximum OC, which is what everyone really needs now - the new GPU's respond well to increased CPU performance.

I am hoping they use a 900w power supply for home / base station use, and a 330w for mobile use. Maybe a 2 x 450w, if the adapter is mobile enough.

Woah woah, 1080 is barely up to 180w on stock, in power consumption. Two of those with a 95w CPU is merely reaching 455. Of course its more than enough ;) Even for some overclocking.

What worries me though, is that to properly power the GPUs at 180W or more, they might need aditional power connectors, which the GT83 will most likely have, but I worry our GT80s might not and thus will not support the 1080 and instead settle for the weaker 1070. Bummer.

    where did you read that?

exactly, though donno the chances of that happening, it'd make sense when they had the preview back in June, they would have shown us dual PSU but nothing was talked about. there are not many laptop with Dual PSU, clevo being the first and only and Asus just started with gx800 so it should be a big thing need to be covered.

that would be gigantic brick LOL.

naw, its way more than enough. even with each card at 230w used with cpu/display 660w is more than enough. if cpu can clocked to 4.7-4.8ghz then we might have a bit of trouble but at 4.2ghz? not a chance lol.

The results from drawing power on 2 x 980m + 6700K OC from the dual 330w PSU shows power draw into the 800w range, so I think the 1080 x 2 is in danger of getting into the 900w range with full OC on all components.

Let's not under power this time, lets go for a lot more headroom in PSU's, I'd rather have more than enough power than not quite enough :)

@Mr. Fox , what do you think a good power source level would be to feed a 95w desktop CPU and 2 1080 mobile desktop GPU's, in a laptop?

Is 2 x 330w enough, or how much more headroom would you want?

What is the highest power draw from the wall you saw when OC'ing 980 SLI, and 980m SLI?

    Thanks Mr. Fox :)

um, 980Ti SLI overclocked with overclocked Haswell CPU doesn't go over 700 in any situations......I don't know how 980m Sli with skylake go over 800 even with all the overclocks.

660W should be more than plenty even with 1080 SLI, especially with laptop CPU.

That's why I called in Mr. Fox, as he has reported such high wall power wattage draws, which is where I saw them.

Before my first post I hoped to find the 1080 SLI total system wall power usage reported somewhere, but I couldn't find any, even in the video with the HB testing, for some reason he left out the normal power usage chart.

My p870 with 980m sli pulls around 650 watts max with the stock mofsets, some see higher power consumption because they had added mofsets to the mxm boards.

The single 980 desktop edition will pull much less so there is plenty of room unless you start modifying it.

Those rumors are based on the same leaks and stuff we have. The waiting game is very bothersome huh?

Dual 330W should be fine. I tested some pretty wicked 180W 980 vBIOS files from @Prema and saw just over 800W a couple of times and I was using a quad 330W setup, but as we fine tuned and optimized it, it was good (just barely) with dual 330W. With 980M SLI I have seen about 725W in the Panther with 4960X and about 645W (with each 980M pulling about 260-280W).

I saw a peak of about 460W with the P870DM-G with a single 200W 980 the other day running Time Spy. The 980 showed 365W all by itself in HWiNFO64.

Word of caution... all of this extreme GPU OC benching is done using AC cooling and keeping them down around 35-45°C max temp (generally about 12°C idle). Trying it using fans alone can kill GPUs. Stuff other than the core gets extremely hot and can fry them... literally.

@hmscott at your practical use, you'll never hit over 660w, ever. especially not with 4.2ghz on a bga junk. this is a short translation :) haha

It's a matter of the unknown right now, you and I don't know what MSI, Asus, Clevo will have in total over the next year, or for upgrade after that.

There could be 1080ti / Titan mobile desktop GPU's with just a bit more power requirements.

Potential CPU alternatives unpublished...higher than 95w...

It's best to have more than enough power on tap, not just barely enough - we already have that and we don't like it. :)
