if what u mentioned comes true i would be so happy but obviously i know it aint gonna happen though. big business want to have control and make money, at this point MSI/ASUS will still stick to what intel has and we can only hope something comes from AMD's side to shake intel's mobile market tbh but i seriously doubt it.

although i do admit, ASUS has done something that i thought they would have never done, watercooling because trend is usually thinner and less powerful notebook, MSI on the other hand i just see it as an 18 inch laptop like m18xr2. if they sell, i dont know why alienware has discontinued it. so far only clevo and only 1 laptop per yr offers desktop LGA cpu.

My dad was at a convention thingy for work and they had ar and vr glasses out - he took s picture. Next to the Hololens it looked like they had some sort of prototype ar device with completely wrap around lenses...

The Asus is gonna get confiscated by the tsa for having liquid in it....
they said the battery would only be 20 min on Reddit which makes me think the cpu is using more power...

Because every point matters when you're trying to win at something. So far that seems to be working out pretty well for me with ranking in the top 0.3% in my league in the US and top 1.5% worldwide. Can't hate that! Especially considering that almost all of my competition is desktops.

Don't listen to reddit as a source for laptops. It's mostly filled with speculation and old/outated views, specially when it comes to laptops.

I am planning on getting a GT80s. Can someone with more knowledge help me decide between the Sli-274 and the Sli-002? They both have the same CPU and GPU which is all that matters to me. Both have plenty of ram which is easy enough to upgrade at a later time if needed. I have no use for the DVD/Blu-Ray drive and plan on getting 2 Samsung 950 Pro 512GB PCIe NVMe drives to replace what comes with them. Is there anything I am overlooking between the 2 models? I would like to get the cheaper Sli-274.

MSI has both models listed in the specifications section here, click one and then the other to see the differences:
    https://us.msi.com/Laptop/GT80S-TITAN-SLI-6th-Gen-GTX-980M-SLI#hero-specification&sku_no=881

Like you said, disk space, DVD vs Blu-ray, memory, are the only listed differences.

I would get either one, based on the best sales price compared to the retail list price.

It's good to check them out fully when you first get one. Check all the ports, functions, OC it to push it a little to see if it over heats, and work out all the niggles with function before the acceptance period expires - usually 7-14 days.

Please come back and let us know what you get and how you like it :)

Yup, just 1 330w power adapter away from being competitive against 2 330w power adapters :)

Maybe the new release will solve the gap in AC power draw problem.

It looks like another release before we get the desktop CPU's in the MSI GT80/83.

To me it looks like there will be more >45w CPU options in future Intel releases, but only time will tell.

Well, a socket-mounted desktop CPU would be a very welcomed addition to an otherwise pretty amazing machine. Has anyone tried to use a dual 330W Clevo setup on it to see if it would work? It has the same AC adapter connection as Clevo if I remember correctly (please correct me if that's not accurate).

    Probably it is, probably not.

I've checked the link in that reddit post and yes TipidPC is one of the popular PC forums in the Philippines just like NBR!

Here is the link in that reddit post:

    https://tipidpc.com/viewitem.php?iid=40008975

PC Corner is also one of the popular PC Store in the Philippines, Quezon City, Manila.

I've tried calling the PC Corner's Store manager today and asked him when will be those new MSI with Pascal GPUs coming out and he told me this August 14, 2016. I was also kind of interested in one of the base model "MSI GT72VR 6RE Dominator Pro Tobii (Pascal, 8GB GDDR5)" so I asked him what is the GPU on it and he said its the single GTX 1080 no "M" version, the system price is 39,995 Philippine Peso or $2969.490 in USD.

I asked him if this are the official spec and price for the unit if ever they are going to come out in August, and I also asked him why that I can't find any reference about it in the internet even here in NBR there is no announcement or whatsoever, then no more answer.......

    Too good to be true?

@GTVEVO has direct and indirect experience from before I was active in the GT80 thread, so he can best answer it, I can only relay what he told us.

The 2 x 330w works on all the GT80/GT80S, but there seems to be a limit to the power draw, more so in the latest GT80S SLI 980, as MSI put in a specific limit to protect the PSU in from overdrawing a single 330w adapter.

The MSI GT80 apparently will draw from the battery during high sustained load situations, providing more power than the unlimited / limited EC allows through a single 330w power supply.

Some noticed this in the GT80, but I looked and didn't see it when running days worth of batch files through 100% CPU and 100% x 2 980m GPU loads - it must be specific loads that trigger it in the GT80's.

In the GT80S 980 SLI this battery draw could occur under heavy gaming load, even without OC, so people tried the 2 x 330w, and noted no additional power drawn from the wall.

So that started the whole MSI Tech Support involvement, increasing the power draw allowance by 15%, but MSI wouldn't completely unlock it to take advantage of 2 x 330w power.

It's probably the safest call at the time, as the visibility of the problem likely went higher up after design / shipment.

Hopefully that awareness has sunk in and the new GT83 with 1080 SLI will be properly designed to give us all the power it needs to run 100% stock, at least, and hopefully at max OC too.

A question about the MSI GT80 w/980m SLI

Mr. Fox have commented this in one of my threads...he said something about the power issue of the MSI GT80....what issue exactly?

Post #8111, just before your post :)

It's more an issue with the GT80S 980 SLI, I never saw it on my GT80 980m SLI.

    Oh, lol.

So it does decrease the gaming performance on the GT80S then???

    EDIT

I've just got an email from the store manager guys....

MSI GT72VR 6RE Dominator Pro Tobii with (GTX 1070, 8GB GDDR5) price is $2969.50 and remember this cost a bit more when you buy things here in the Philippines but it maybe less if its the U.S or anywhere else but Philippines.

And that Titan SLI may cost around $6k.

Again...this is what they have posted in the TipidPC site, not sure if its the official specs or price.

Limited power draw limits the top end of performance.

Out of the box, stock, the GT80S 980 SLI is the fastest laptop out there for sale now.

The numbers @Mr. Fox posted for a test P870 980 SLI that never made it to product shipment. There was only one, and it no longer exists as a whole.

The GT80S 980 SLI was shipping for a while, and it took time for people to notice that their battery level was dropping while plugged in and gaming for hours at a time.

Eventually it was discovered that the GT80S 980 SLI would meet peak power demands over and above what the single 330w power adapter could provide by drawing battery power.

You can game at max power, only some games draw enough power to grab battery power, for 5-6 hours, then performance drops - I don't recall how much, but it was like 20%-30%.

It takes about an hour to recharge, you can't pull the battery easily and swap it for another one - that would make this more livable, so you need to take a break until the battery has recharged enough to continue at full performance.

The MSI GT80S 980 SLI is still the best laptop out there performance wise in games, you need to be aware of the power requirements, and timing.

Hopefully the GT83 SLI 1080 will design in enough power to fully use it unlimited while plugged in :D

I'm currently stuck with AW 17 R3 with an Amplifier + GTX 1070 on it - since this is the only thing that can give me a good performance next to a desktop, or the MSI GT80 Titan with 980m SLI seems to be close to that GTX 980ti performance too. I wouldn;t dream of those dual desktop gpus on a laptop, i'm pooor and I can no longer wait for the pascal either ---- they are too expensive imo.

The GT80/GT80S SLI 980m's all perform about the same, find a nice used one and save a bunch of $, or get a new one with full warranty as the prices continue to drop - especially after the 1080/1070/1060 mobiles are finally announced and ship.

Or, wait and get a single GPU 1080 for about the same price - at some point after the outrageous pricing at launch - and get 2x 980 performance in 1 GPU.

Or, get a 3rd job and save for that 1080 SLI monster :D

The current GTX 980 SLI is still @$4k+ not going to expect a decrease on it that much and maybe $200-$300 but still stiff, even with the new pascal comes out.

cant live without the 3 fan system in gt83, even when its released i gotta see what internal looks like before making the purchase. same with gx800, if water cooling is still only on gpu then its kinda pointless, though gx700 had shared heatsink, wanna see it all b4 i purchase, gotta be at least 4.4ghz though.

or wait for clevo's new laptop mhmmmmmmmm?

@Mr. Fox when was the release date for p870dm do u remember?

It's kind of a blur since I had the Eurocom developer test unit several months before it was released. I think it was in November.
It was never officially supported by Clevo for some silly reason and was intended to be a Eurocom exclusive offering (an endeavor on their part alone). I am assuming they never released it because it would have been too close to Pascal and 1080 SLI launch to be worth it. But, that's only an assumption on my part since they never shared the reason. It may have been for another completely different reason. But, it's a shame they did not... worked extremely well. I know there were quite a few folks that were disappointed that it never made it to production. Perhaps the source of the 180W 980 MXM cards refused to (or could not) provide them in sufficient volume... not sure. Might have even been some legal sword rattling from MSI about it... who knows, LOL. I heard an unsubstantiated rumor that my benchmark scores that romped all over the Titan ruffled some feathers in a not-so-good way.

Nice website, but where's all the flashing high-lighted Colored Text with blinking Emoticons?

Ya gotta add some flash to be cool man. ;)

    Looks good otherwise

Yup, savings is #1, but makes ya feel like #2 watching all that sweet upgrade $ going into that Black Hole for Retirement...

You'll thank them, and yourself, if you keep stuffing $ in the mattress for a rainy day, or retirement.

You should be saving up for College too. Ya gotta have some grease for the wheels of independence.

I worked through HS, and College, so never was short of $ for necessities, savings, etc.

Try to get skilled work in your field, build up a resume. I cold called lots of places when I was in HS to get a job in Electronics.

I ended up ringing enough bells to get attention, and a summer job before my Freshman year, that got me a referral for a job during the school year and summers through HS.

It's six of one half dozen of the other, either do extra curricular activities and "internships" for no pay, or get a real job part time during school and full-time during the summers.

Then you have enough for savings, college, and a little fun :)

Doesn't matter where you buy a Clevo as long as it comes from a @Prema partner. If it doesn't have that, it's going to be a crippled piece of junk and not be worth buying without access to his firmware.

Can someone link me to the box that adds the 2 330 watt bricks -- I'm thinking of combining 2. What are the pros of doing this?

Call them, Eurocom will work with you if you ask otherwise there are other Prema partners such as hidevolution that gladly will. Eurocom is known for Ludacris power with clevo machines and because of this and the fact they pave the way they can charge. But don't be so short sided, put it this way I paid less for my p870 than my gt80-009

The part is ac-100 and can be bought from any of the selling vendors if they still have it. Last I heard it was in short supply.
