You will have to replace the entire keyboard because each new keyboard counts as one assembly material, thus cannot remove each key cap for repair use. It's better if you send it in and let MSI can deal with it for you; however, please be prepared if MSI is going to charge you for the repair, unless you have ADC.

But we can change the key caps. There are even o-ring kits for the key caps to quiet the clicking. And yes, there should be a place that sells key caps for this keyboard.

I know we can change key caps, but not according to MSI's RMA dept.
They have stated that every customer needs to send the unit in for repair therefore no one else can perform this repair except MSI's RMA dept.

Installation failed for me (SLI-253; Windows 10). It removed the old software/drivers, rebooted, installed new, but the driver for the 1525 wasn't installed. Ran it again (Modify) and selected the deselected 1525, but the it kept failing.

I uninstalled and reinstalled the version from MSI without issue.

    Hallo folks

I've been keeping up to date with the thread as much as I can, and I've yet to see anyone with this issue that I'm about to describe; I've got the 2QD-203UK model (4720HQ, 970m sli) which I've had for about four months now. Still loving it to bits and at a recent LAN festival it's more than paid for itself, however since I've owned it, the left side fan (as you're looking at the keyboard) ....'rattles'? It's kinda hard to describe, so I've put a video in so you can hear it. It kinda sounds like a bunch of crickets.
It didn't bother me at first, but now I'm more worried about longevity with it, as I don't just want that one fan to give up the ghost suddenly. I've thought about taking the back off and having a quick look, but as I don't know Scan's (The retailer I bought it from) position on the whole 'you can peel off the warranty sticker but it's still under warranty' gubbins, I thought best not to.
The reason it concerns me more is if I hit the fan button, one of the fans is considerably faster than the other, and I'm guessing it's the 'noisy' one that's not pushing as much; screenshot of the MSI UI showing that below as well.

    Anyone have any suggestions?

Even the Gold Key Caps that come with it? I thought those were to be installed as desired by the user? Anyway, I'm not going to argue the point further here. I'm pretty sure that removing keycaps is an option in order to install the gold ones and to insert the rubber O-rings. But that is an individuals choice. To maintain his warranty, he should follow MSI and your directions.

So im in the market for a new laptop (again) after a God awful experience with a Clevo reseller in my country (P370SM-A) which I have sold at a loss now.

So i'm trying decide between the GT80 091JP (I think its 09 in America)

    980m SLI/4980hq

    And an Alienware 17 R3(6820hk) + AGA + A 980ti.

Will the GT80 match the Dellienware with a 980ti? Or maybe surpass it?

How's the build quality? Any common issues(throttling etc.)? How hard is it to type without using the palm rest?

Risechi, MatthewAMEL just posted what you are looking for:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/thr...all-13-15-and-17.770323/page-50#post-10082951
"Just to give you an idea, I was getting 8.5k in FireStrike with the 980M, 12.3K with 980Ti. No overclocking on either."

My GT80 SLI-263 with Broadwell 5950HQ gets close to 16k (15960) OC'd, and 14k stock settings in FireStrike. The Haswell 4980HQ gets about the same, maybe 1k lower.

There seem to be a lot of teething problems with the AGA, lots of odd situational oddities. It looks like it is a bit of a mess, check it out here:

980M sli is very similar to the 980ti/titan-X. I went from a 980M SLI setup to my current titan-x setup. I like the Titan-X for its single card nature but its not very portable even inside my tiny docking station (though adding a water cooling loop did not help that!).

lol sooo tired. No sleep b/c of homework. Dropped laptop about 1-1/2 feet by accident. My aluminum chassis in the left corner dented. Any recommendations on what to do?

If I dropped the gt80 1 foot would it dent like that, crack, or be fine? how thick (milimeters) is its chassis? image.jpeg

I am thinking about putting a flathead in to tri and bend the hinge area back out...

I would say it all depends on the angle it was dropped, I honestly would expect all of them to have some damage due to their weight and density and how tightly packed they are.

You are free to install which driver you desire but the MSI driver is not current and does not have the bug fixes that the new ones from Killer Networks have.

Sorry to here about your installation problem.I wish to remind you that your anti virus software should/needs to be disabled before installing the Killer Performance Suite.

I installed the 1.1.56.1572 suite on both Windows 10 Pro x64 and Windows 8.1 Pro x64 without issue on my MSI notebook with a Killer N1525 installed

I can confirm I had issues installing the latest drivers, but it was weird. I will try again later tdoay but it seems I need to reboot after removing the drivers before attempting to reinstall. This is not the first time that the wireless drives decide to be a bit difficult to install.

I haven't dropped mine but considering this huge monster weights a lot, I can definitely see aesthetic damage, and depending on how hard it was dropped by, you could damage a component easily. I haven't dropped a laptop in about 10 years.

The last accident I had was on site when installing a new remote monitoring system, and my laptop was left on a ladder. Obviously the ladder was a not a good place, and when someone accidentally bumped into it, it fell. It was a thinkpad. It broke the plastic carcass but the machine was otherwise alright (about 4 feet drop).

I don't think this Titan, which weights more than twice, would be unscathed hahaha.

WhatsThePoint, much of the bug fixing is for Windows 10, which is probably introducing bugs in the Windows 8.X/7 install, for now - until the bug fixes slow down / stop for a while, I am sticking with 1.1.55.1538 which is working good for me on Windows 8.1.

But, thanks for the posts of the new killer driver updates, when I don't see one from you for a month or so, I will try that last driver update :)

mason2smart, unless you have experience with fine metal work, I would leave it alone and call/email your laptop support and send them the photo. It's very easy to pop that kind of metal and do more damage.

Accidents happen, and each one we have makes us more careful next time.

I don't move around stuff when I am tired, as I lose my grip too easily - same for when I first wake up.

I's sad but true, we meat bags aren't always precise instruments. ;)

Lord knows I've had my share of issues with drivers from both Killer and Intel.

Killers issues have mostly been with installation, either they didn't get the previous version fully uninstalled with the built in uninstaller or the package was bad.

There's a warning message at the beginning of the install of 1.1.56.1572 to turn off the AV.I used to think it was BS and ignore it.

Now I tun it off before starting the installation and again after the 1st reboot when the new driver gets installed. So the process has 2 reboots and 2 turn offs of the AV.

Some folks use a uninstaller program to remove all the Qualcomm Atheros pieces before starting to put in a new driver or suite.

WhatsThePoint, so far the installer/uninstaller app for the Suite seems to do a good job uninstalling everything, but I haven't done lots of installs / uninstalls, I have been stable for weeks now with 1.1.55.1538 .

You would think a new motherboard would enable them to space out the ssd's if they are doing pcie ssd's... The video still shows them stacked.

    Thanks mason2smart!!

After watching a couple of times, it looks like initially they use the old GT80 interior, as it shows the 4x M.2 SATA SSD slots:

    4 m.2 slot gt80.JPG

...but the interior shot that shows the M.2 PCIe SSD's only shows 2 slots/connectors, the 3rd connector is missing on the left 3 positions, and the connector from the right position is also missing, so only 2 M.2 PCIe x4 slots? I was hoping for 2 M.2 PCIe x4 + 2 M.2 SATA as well.

    new gt80 pcie m.2 slots.JPG

The CPU % improvements look promising :)

Found the DDR3 vs DDR4 graph, right after the PCIe speed graph:

    GT80 ddr3 vs ddr4.JPG

The Haswell/Broadwell GT80's can also run 2133mhz (DDR3) memory, for the same speed up. Needs faster DDR4.

    No USB-C or TB3 mentioned?

    Awesome :)

mason2smart, I was thinking the same thing, those things are gonna get hot, they should be spread out. A better position for 1 of the 2 M.2 PCIe x4 SSD's would be the old sd3 slot to the right of the CPU next to the 2.5" slot.
