Isn't it 6 bins just like the 6920HQ? I thought it was 3.7 stock and 4.3 turbo.
-
What was 3.7 and 4.3 turbo??
http://ark.intel.com/compare/88972,97462,97464
The 6920HQ was max 4.0ghz on 1 core, stepped down on the other 3.
The 7920HQ is 4.3ghz on 4 cores, and 4.7ghz on 1 core, much better
-
Hmm, so the waiting continues.
When I am back in the US I will ask if the laptop is a whitebook or just a rebranded MSi. So far it does seem like one.
http://www.gamersnexus.net/news-pc/2612-why-2-power-adapters-for-the-msi-dual-gtx-1080-laptop
It's higher in Intel's price point but none of the x920HQ can reach 4.6 like the x820HK on my 15R3.

@Q937 - check here halogod posted the max overclock bins for 1/2/3/4 core: http://forum.notebookreview.com/thr...scussion-thread.794965/page-368#post-10439183
However I do like to sync all my cores into one clockspeed, also makes it easier to test stability.Spartan@HIDevolution likes this. -
The stock 4 core turbo. 6920 is 3.4 OCable to 4.0, and I'm pretty sure 7920 is 3.7 OCable to 4.3.

Sorry, left out the URL to @HaloGod2012 's first OC post, start there and catch up to the end of that thread

Which says what I've been saying, that it OCs to 4.3.
Spartan@HIDevolution and hmscott like this. -
Except this time the 7920HK OC's on all 4 cores to 4.3, vs. 1 core to 4.0ghz for the 6820HQ, a big improvement.
And, @HaloGod2012 has a -80mv undervolt at 4x 4.3ghz !!
It will be fun to see how much he can push it on up to max multiplier's on all 4 cores.
It's a big jump up from Skylake to Kabylake for the laptop CPU's this go around
Looking forward to seeing what a fully unlocked 7820HK will do.Spartan@HIDevolution likes this. -
The 6920HQ overclocked to 4.0 on all four cores. I also had a stable undervolt at 4.0 to -80 and could bench semi reliably at -100.hmscott likes this.

Geez man, that's gotta be a joke, right?
But, you do bring a good question to mind
@HaloGod2012 does the GT83VR 7930HQ 1080 SLI allow switching between iGPU and dGPU via the GPU switch, or?Spartan@HIDevolution and mason2smart like this. -

thinking of returning my unit cause of some backlight bleed on the lower left corner. I attached a picture, is this normal or should I get a replacement?
-
Support.1@XOTIC PC Company Representative
How does it look in regular light? I've certainly seen worse, but I know backlight bleed can be one of those things that drive you nuts.
-
HaloGod2012 Notebook Virtuoso
You can see it in dark screens even during the day , I'm thinking it's replacement time -
Spartan@HIDevolution Company Representative
that is fine man, also note, when you take a pic with your camera, it looks than what it actually is in real life
as long as it isn't apparent while watching movies and playing games, it's fine
You should've seen the backlight bleeding on my previous Alienware 18! that was like there was an extra light bulb on each corner of the screen -
HaloGod2012 Notebook Virtuoso
My GT80 with the Same screen had 0 backlight bleed. Also, this picture was taken so it didn't overexpose the glow. I notice it in many darker games, it's very annoying. Amazon is sending a replacement after I showed them the pictureshmscott, mason2smart, NuclearLizard and 1 other person like this. -

There is always some backlight bleed, it's the way IPS mounting in laptops happens.
Some are better than others, your's isn't bad at all, but I have had 0 bleed on most for quite a while, so...
If you adjust the monitor brightness down a bit, it can help, or pick colors instead of black for desktop / etc.
In movies with a black bar you'd think it would be visible, but it doesn't look bad as your eye's are focused on the movie and it's brighter.
I wouldn't chance swapping without knowing what you are swapping for, you could get one with no light bleed, but instead end up with a real problem
mason2smart likes this. -
Good luck, I hope the new one is 0 bleed too

Hey guys, new to the forum...and more so because I ran into a snag on my new GT83VR. It is the latest model being 212.
A big reason I decided to buy the notebook is because MSI had it listed the monitor is now 120hz/5ms. I skipped the 24 model because it only could do 60hz.
I checked multiple times and both MSI's site and Newegg (where I bought it from) has 120 hz listed on their pages. But to reveal a major disappointment, the Nvidia settings only reveal 60hz at best...and going to customize resolution doesn't show higher rates even I input 120hz. Unless I am missing something, it looks like the Titan is STILL only limited to 60hz. I am fine with it being 1080p being only an 18" screen...but having only 60hz screen refresh rate is downright sad.
Unless there is a feature I am missing, looks like I'll be returning the notebook for a refund. A real shame, because I love everything but not supporting 120hz for the display (for its price) just doesn't cut it for me.
I do run external monitors and such, but also wanted to enjoy the notebook's display for itself...lack of 120hz is a dealbreaker however and not cool for MSI to have it being claimed to support 120hz...when it does not.hmscott likes this. -
MSI isn't the retailer, it's Amazon, which means you are really getting a whole new laptop with unknown state for the rest of it all.
If you are happy with a laptop, everything except one little niggle, it's sometimes better to live with it, save it for fixing later if something really goes wrong, rather than chance getting a real problem in the new one.mason2smart likes this. -
Yeah, it's well known that the 18.4" laptops all have had the same IPS 60hz display for many years, that's the only screen made at that size.
Asus made a new 4k 18.4" display for their new 18.4" laptops, but so far noone else seems to have access to it.
Only the 17.3" laptops, like the GT73VR, have more choices, 3 for now from MSI, the IPS 1080 60hz, TN 1080 120hz, and IPS 4k 60hz.
So they got it wrong in their entries, and you talked to people that had no clue.
If you bought it for the 18.4" screen size, mechanical RGB keyboard, 1080 / 1070 SLI, and overall awesomeness, I'd keep it and see if you can live with the screen at 1080p 100hz (!!?)
Yes, you can set an Nvidia Control Panel Custom Resolution that will let you more than likely set it to 100hz. If not try 96hz, 90hz, etc, some even get it stable at 110hz
Then you can then use RTSS + AB to Limit game FPS to 100 fps, and even without G-sync you can get great game play.
Maybe complain to newegg to get a refund of some $$$, or a store credit, make a sad face when talking with them
Spartan@HIDevolution and Zalzeo like this. -
Well you can always say that the product page misled you to buy the computer.
Newegg doesn't have a very good return policy though, be prepared to argue a lot about a return to them.
Edit

Oh thank you for the suggestions. I did manage to get it to accept 103hz at most, but I will round it down to 100hz. That is much better! Now I can appreciate the unit a lot more. I still have my 27" main monitor for 2k and 144hz play. The notebook's display is for when I can't have the extended monitor.
Thanks again!mason2smart, NuclearLizard and hmscott like this. -
And what do you think about noise. I like the screen (even if it is 60) and I like the keyboard, processor, memory, ssd etc. I like everything. I'm almost ready to buy but when I read reviews like this
http://www.kitguru.net/lifestyle/la...-gt83vr-6rf-titan-sli-gtx-1080-laptop-review/
it stops me. -
Yes, it can sound like a hair dryer. The keyboard clicks are loud compared to my Orion Spectrum keyboard. My Philips X2 headphones w/Dragonfly Red will drown out any noise though, for this notebook will not be used as some family media unit. I have both this MSI Titan and a Surface Book with the 965m performance base. I carry both of these notebooks in my messenger bag to have one for power and performance, and the other for portability and comfort. I wanted the Titan for still being smaller and more powerful than a Mini ITX build that would still require external components like a monitor, keyboard, etc...at all times.
However I don't quite get their complaints about its idle noise, mine at least is dead silent and I really don't find the fans intrusive at all even when playing games. Or maybe I'm just not really that sensitive to it like others may be. -
I don't find noise to be a huge issue at all. Idle it's dead silent or quieter than my desk fan....or even my furnace when it blows. And when it really starts to blow I usually have headphones on.
That being said it's as loud as or not much louder than most of the other high performing laptops on the market.

lol what bag do u use? it must be MASSIVE? -
found something that would have been cool to put in place of my dvd bay....but its too big to fit.
http://www.silverstonetek.com/product.php?pid=717&area=en -
This wouldn't work regardless. The connector in your laptop is slimline SATA, which is only appropriate for storage. The only reason it has that form factor is so it can go in SFF PCs.
-
Damn, I missed that...well IF it would fit and IF it would connect it would be something cool to slot in.
I saw it as I was browsing cases to put a home server in. -
Must be a body bag

The standard bag is pretty roomy, T can usually fit, laptop, power bricks, headphones, mouse, Xbox one gamepad, toiletries (toothbrush toothpaste mouthwash) and a set of pajamas in mine with enough space for a small book.

u could technically get an adapter from molex to 13pin sata for laptop ODD bay but i simply think this is a bad idea, it come with that type of connector for a reason, and especially made for laptop due to 12v able to flow more current. to power that thing off a laptop 6 pin sata power, if two usb3.0 and a m.2 ssd all used at once, not only data drop but it might even run into power issue.. if its mouse/keyboard + m.2 ssd should be ok.
-
It doesn't matter if you can get power to it because it's still SATA. How are you hooking up a USB port to a SATA controller?
-
Ha a body bag...nah too messy and a pain to clean.
I use this bag: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00FD7YS08/ref=ya_st_dp_summary

Update: so I got the refund for my GT83VR and ended up getting the GT73 pro 4K with the 7820HK and GTX1080, 4K screen. Since most games didn't use sli I figured I'd save 2 grand and go with this. Laptop will arrive tomorrow !

you did the right thing, the GT73VR has a better screen anyway. Also, I have a Dual 1080 GTX in SLI in my current Clevo P870DM3, SLI is good in benchmarks, don't notice it improves that much in games, they don't scale wellhmscott likes this. -

depends on the game bro
unfortunately, game developers recently don't want to put much effort into optimizing or even supporting SLI properly. If they did support it just as well as benchmarks like 3DMark did, we would all be much happier and it would make SLI a much more worthwhile upgrade.hmscott and mason2smart like this. -
