You can't do blind flash whether if the unit is bricked or not. Notebooks aren't equipped with unique Boot Recovery function like desktop motherboard products have. However, MSI usually covers BIOS flashing issues under warranty.

Often the vendors don't want to give up their "special Fn" key combinations, like the one that unlocks the BIOS.

Here's some legacy threads, maybe some insights there...:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/help-has-anyone-ever-attempted-a-blind-bios-flash.340173/

"Ok this is for ACER laptops but might work for you or give you some ideas.
Check the threads below, blind flash using a USB drive. Caution: it seems like the USB drive should be small, 256mb or less to make it work using these methods!

    INSYDE http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=284686
    PHOENIX http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=328328 "

    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=256728.0

"I've found that on the web.... Is there someone who knows what button to press for my laptop?

    method 2

In case of a BAD flash, a blind-flash will be required.

    1. Remove any files from your USB that aren't the necessary bootable DOS files.

    2. Pick a ROM you want to flash (doesn't have to be the original), but it MUST be one for your notebook specifically.

    3. Rename the file.ROM to AMIBOOT.ROM and put it on your flash drive.

    4. Plug in your flash drive in a USB 2.0 slot.

    5. As soon as your notebook turns on and nothing is displayed, spam Ctrl + Home (In my case, the MS-16F2 is Ctrl + Fn + PgUp or Ctrl + Shift + NumPad 7).

    6. You should hear four (4) beeps and the BIOS should begin flashing itself"

I guess no matter what combination it might be, you need ctrl+home key to trigger the blind flash."

    https://rog.asus.com/forum/showthre...ng-issue-G751JY-Bricked&viewfull=1#post563381

    " Ctrl+Home+Power works! REALLY!
For it to work on G751JY:
1.have a FAT32 formatted usb stick handy,THIS IS A MUST. NTFS FORMATED STICK WON"T BE READ BY BIOS.
    2. Put the bios file on it in root of directory structure, rename it G751JY.bin put the original G751JYAS.211 with it, I used both, not sure which one worked,
    3. insert usb stick into any usb port + connect laptop to power brick and p-brick to mains, battery neeeds to be charged 90%, it will not let the bios flash if it is less,
4.press and hold right Ctrl+Home and than press Pbutton and release. Keep holding Ctrl+Home until EZFlash appears on screen. Release Crtl+Home.

If you like to put bios file on HDD/SSD, the bios file MUST be on the first partition of the HDD/SSD. Note that from factory G751 has a small, if I remeber correctly, 128MB UEFI partition as first, it is FAT32 formatted.
But do not take my word on it, confirm that with partition manager of your choice. And you have to put the bios file there. Can you brake sthing if you do that? Maybe.

As I see G752 has NTFS driver in the bios, maybe with G752 NTFS formatted stick also works. But this has to be confirmed by G752 owner,as I am not him.

YOU DO FLASHING OF BIOS AT YOUR OWN RISK! I WILL NOT BE HELD RESPONSIBLE IF YOU BRICK YOUR LAPTOP!
    Happy flashing [IMG]
Someone can make this sticky for other to easly see it."

I have a GT72 2QE and installed the windows 10 patch and there is no issue.
I posted on MSI forum and contacted French support and they told me they are working on BIOS updates, 2QE is 4 or 5th gen (Haswell & Broadwell) and should come around March (TBC, it doesn't seem that long to integrate new microcode to BIOS, however they are relying on Intel to provide those updates).

It's more effective and you'll usually get better answers from MSI Support tickets filed on your laptop. The MSI forum support people aren't in the same group, so you'll be getting 2nd hand knowledge.

MSI Support isn't always perfect, so if you don't get a satisfactory response from your first ticket, file another one asking the same question - maybe try to word it simpler and more directly to the point, without external links, make the ticket self sufficient (all data contained within), and attach any images or documents as a zip file to the ticket.

Create a login here (different than the forum account), register your laptop - fill in all the info and attach a photo or scan of your purchase invoice / receipt, and open a ticket asking for the firmware update for the recent security issues, and for the Intel Hyperthreading patch.

I confirm that support is sometimes inconsistent, and most of the time trying to say that it's none of their business, so you have to be extra diplomatic to explain the issue and provide detail as they tend to ignore issues quite fast IMHO...

I've probably missed something but what is the Hyperthreading patch you are referring to ? There was an issue with HT on Haswell mobile CPU ? Unrelated to Spectre/Meltdown ?

Yes, the HT issue was a few months ago, and was being tracked in a thread that since has changed it's name to be on topic for Spectre / Meltdown, but check the early posts for the HT issue:

In the most recent iterations of the GS63VR, did the speakers ever get an update or more punch?

It's the same spec. The speaker is like 2 watts therefore it will be very similar to its predecessor.

Strange question time, are all the FPC and various connectors on the GT72s motherboard(MS-17821) and the GT72 Dominator Pro equal?

Thinking about upgrading my mobo to a 6820HK based one from a GT72S into my GT72 chassis.

    Best regards.

    Hello,

Does anyone noticed stuttering on games and benchmarks, lately?

Some MSI 1070 laptops have this "bd prochot" issue, causing CPU throttling to 800mhz, which causes severe stuttering, on CPU intensive games.

Check this thread, if you have this kind of problem with your laptop, and share your feedback.

    Thank you

    P.S

Any news on a updated BIOS to fix the Intel Spectre/Meltdown issue?

Msi removed the latest BIOS from the official MSI website, bios date 11 January 2018, because Intel told them to do so (some folks have bsod with this bios).

If you go there now, they put an older BIOS instead, which is strange, since they released many new bios after this one.

So, yes, you cant rollback, since the previous BIOS, is not avaliable for download on the official MSI website anymore.

    Share your feedback, thank you.

    Cheers

Not sure if this is the appropriate place for this or not, but my 8 month old MSI GT72VR's keyboard backlighting randomly lost part of the blue color spectrum. One day, my beautiful teal turned into a weird dull yellowy-green, and while blue itself works, and green itself works, teal and other similar colors do not. This only affects the keyboard, all other lights work as intended. Any ideas on how to resolve this without having to mail my laptop in for RMA? I tried resetting the Dragon software to no avail.

Have you tried FN + +/- key to adjust the light? If problem persists then please proceed with RMA request.

The lighting works, but one of the colors dropped out. It's not worth sending my $2,000 daily driver laptop halfway around the world to maybe fix (I've heard horror stories of Asus RMAs, and haven't gotten the best customer service from MSI *cough*) but was just curious. So basically, MSI used a faulty keyboard - or maybe it was SteelSeries? Who knows.

Things do break with every brand and no product can be spared of malfunction. But you can try reaching out to your regional MSI office to see if you can purchase a keyboard instead of sending it in, then do the replacement yourself. If the option isn't available, then you can also look it up on eBay, etc.

@jauffrey - and there are Asus Replacement parts dealers that can be messaged and asked for things not listed, and you can send a couple to hunt down what you need - new or pulls from otherwise dead laptops with working keyboards. I'd explain the exact nature of the failure and not just ask for a keyboard, as their might be support components that go with the keyboard lighting external to the keyboard module.

The keyboard is staked to the top, it needs a whole top case replaced, when keyboards where faulty in the MSI repair center I worked they keyboards where demanded to be destroyed so a faulty keyboard would never be used in another laptop..

They can't reuse the keyboard even if they wanted to, because by the time the keyboard is taken off from the C panel it would have been damaged already.

Its possible, a spherical carbide bit and a ton of patience and you can remove the keyboard from the top.

About my other question, no ideias?

It's not cost effective for any manufacturer to retain that keyboard. It's easier/quicker to just replace the entire C panel with keyboard pre-glued from the factory based on assembly line & streamlined manufacturing process. :)

    What was your other question?

Hy Guys! I have an unusual situation with my MSI GT 70 2OC
    (2013 year)
    Specs:
    Item model number: GT70 2OC-065US
    Processor : Intel(R) Core(TM) I7-4700 MQ CPU @
    Installed RAM : 16GB DDRIII(L)
System type : 64 -bit operating system ,x64-based processor
    GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 770M / 3GB GDDR5
Memory :1 TB 5400 rpm Hard Drive +(250GB SSD)
    Windows 10 home
So... The problem is that ,one yesterday I reinstalled new windows my Laptop isn't working right.
What I find out is that when I'm playing some games (Like WOT, and some Blizzard ) which don't require some cosmic specs ,the Intel driver Icon (from desktop) disappears and the game is shutting down. After that think I have huge lags , and I can see that screen is having some troubles working.
    What I tried to do:
I changed the configs in Nvidia control Panel I tried to change to GPU , and to GeForce GTX 770M. Didn't work.
I checked the drivers in the Admin=> Device manager => Drivers All of them seems to work good and are updated 100%!
After that I gave up :( Idk what to do! :(
    Please help me!
    Thanks

If its possible to swap the mobo of a GT72 to a mobo of a GT72S but retaining everything else from my GT72 laptop, going by images all the FPC connectors seem to be in the same place and besides the rear dropping a DP and having the USB-C(that I can touch up the case with a dremel), its seems like it would fit.

My current 4720HQ is pegged at 100% on BF1 while pushing around 75-80Fps's, going to a 6820HK cpu would be sweet.

Visually, all the ports/connectors are the same and in the same place, the keyboards seem to be the same steelseries version, the only thing that I "discovered" was that some said that the audio jacks sub-board as an extra cable due to the ESS Sabre DAC, could you confirm this(assuming you have access to MSI e-service), that and I know that the SSD cradle is different, because it supports NVMe and SATA m.2 SSD's, so I need at least to grab one of those, the heatsinks also need to be changed, but i would like to tackle that by jumping straight to the GT72VR(or 73vr, not sure now) so I get the 3 heatpipe CPU heatsink and the right heatsink to mount on top of a 1070.

I know that this sounds crazy, but its still cheaper than buying a whole new laptop with a 1070.

So what information do you need to know? Probably if all boards/layout from ms-1781 fits for swap to ms-1782/3 ? I can collect information what has to be swapped for upgrade ;) . Currently I am out from the business(not msi engineer anymore) however I got contacts :).

Hi majster msi, so if I'm not forgetting anything essential and if its possible to, I would like to know if the GT72S 6QE(i7-6820HK mobo) uses the same(or a compatible) part number as the GT72 2QE in the following parts:

Audio sub board with the audio jacks.

USB sub board with the 2 USB 3.0 ports on the right side of the laptop.

    Touchpad

RGB led sub-boards on the touchpad and on the two front strips

I already know that the SSD board is different from the GT72 due to the GT72 supporting only SATA and the GT72S support 2xSATA anda 2xPCIe.
The eDP cable is the same on the mobo side(will most likelly upgrade to a 40 pin one from waresphere so I can slap either a 1080p 120Hz display or the 1440p 120Hz display).
The heatsink is different on the CPU side(different spacing on the mounting holes).
GT72S uses DDR4 RAM vs my current DDR3L.
    Battery is the same.
Speakers look the same, with same cables in the same place.
ODD seems to be in the same place, but not important at all.
Fans are the same or if they have revisions they are all compatible.
The rear IO ports are different, one less DP for the USB C(SuperPort by MSI naming), but I can touch up the case to make room for the port, no problems there.

If you can get any info on that, I would be thankful.

    Best regards.

I wanna buy GT75VR, currently there is only model with 1x16GB ram in my country. I know that the factory ram placed on the backside of motherboard, and normaly it will run dual channel with the other slot on the backside (on 2x16GB configuration)

Can I run dual channel by adding a compatible ram (same brand, speed, cl, etc) on the front slot? (the slot that visible once I open the bottom panel)
Or I have to open everything and put the 2nd stick on the backside?

    Thanks!

    I already asked here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/thr...scussions-lounge.806253/page-63#post-10680447
But the person I asked doesnt seems to notice it ._.

    Hey guys,

Can someone tell if its normal for the GT72VR 7RE, to drain a bit of the battery, while plugged in, playing games for more then one hour straight?

Also, can i rollback the EC Firmware? is it 100% safe?

Yes, you can install it in the bottom slot, closest to the motherboard, under the bottom service panel.

    1. It's normal as the system uses battery for power boost.
    2. Yes you can, 100%, but not recommended as newer version usually provides better tweaks/enhancements.

It's not certified for Windows 10 but it still can be installed nevertheless.
Also, you will need to obtain the Win10 drivers for each component (such as LAN, WLAN, Audio, Graphics, etc) in the system.

What does not certified mean? Not fully functional at install? Install at own risk?
My main concern is this -are there 10 drivers available somewhere for all parts?
That is my real concern - I cannot find MSI windows 10 drivers specifically for some parts - only 8.1 drivers. If I use the 8.1 drivers will things not work (like the top row of keys)?

Can you please give me a full list of the components needing drivers for this unit after 10 install and where to get these appropriate 10 drivers for my GT60 2PC dominoator MSI? I don't want to do the hard install and then find things won't work and I have to put everything back. If there are no drivers for the parts I would have wasted a lot of time and money for nothing. Windows 10 has been around for a while - I would hope there would be drivers. I got this very powerful computer to run some pro lighting programs and need to run windows 10 for the new program -it will be very frustrating if this is the case.

No certification means no support from MSI. They paid certification for Win7 & Win8.1 for this model within its life cycle so it's understandable that they didn't get Windows 10 certification for it.
Win10 drivers are actually available with each of its component manufacturer but unless someone has already provided the list otherwise you have to do the hard work. :)

Most of the drivers from the below mentioned thread should work, they have the latest Intel Chipset Drivers, Intel Management Engine Interface, latest LAN/WLAN Drivers, etc.

If something doesn't install, let me know and I'll help you, the most important thing is the LAN/WLAN Driver so you can get connected.

Install them in the same order mentioned in the thread and reboot after each driver install:

    Hi MSI Rep,

I have to replace my display on my Ge63 raider 001. It has a
    "Chi Mei N156HHE-GA1"
    But I can only find
    "Innolux N156HHE-GA1"
Is there a Difference between the two?

    2nd question :
There's a 4k display version of this same laptop that's not available in the US region , Do you know the Display model number ? Also , could I use that 4k display from the overseas ge63 raider on my U.S Ge63 ?

The N156HHE-GA1 screens are the same.

The 4K screen is the LG LP156UD1-SPB1 - see http://www.panelook.com/LP156UD1-SPB1_LG Display_15.6_LCM_overview_26868.html. You will need a different LCD cable if you want to switch to 4K.

Are you sure you want to go to 4K? It is much slower, and presents a tiny image for web browsing, and business productivity applications. Most gamers do not find it preferable because FPS, refresh rate and response times are all slower.

@msi rep or anyone who can help.
I need part number to ge63 raider 001 front display bezel . Or a compatible front bezel from another msi laptop. The reason I need one is because I used a computer screen cleaner and it removed some of the paint off the bezel. I'm not a happy camper that a simple computer screen cleaner could have a paint thinner effect on a premium laptop like the ge63 raider . https://photos.app.goo.gl/lnJ98dDUvwYLb7tm2

The best way to get it is to call MSI at 888-447-6564 or https://us.msi.com/about/contact-us

A lot of computer cleaner contains alcohol which can damage the coating on the surface of plastic, therefore it's not recommended. The best way to clean it is to use a cloth with water.

As far as ordering a replacement part, you can call that number provided by Donald, then place an order. Please note that MSI will charge you for purchasing the part, unless you do a warranty claim which will require you to send the system back to them as you cannot perform a non-warranted repair on your own.

    Hey @msi I have a question,
What is the difference between this panel and a Rev. C1 ? they both have the same part number and maker only difference is the Rev. C1 and Rev. C2. Reason I ask is because i bought a replacement (c2 version ) to replace the broken screen (c1) But the screen doesn't work properly(dim faint screen) Would that make a difference?

    https://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?item=N82E16834154722

I have a ssd 512gig instead of 256 gig for the canadian model.

but because it's a US model, will I have problem to have support from MSI canada if it's defect ?
I don't want to send it to US...

    thanks

It is best to read the MSI Warranty, but you will find that it is a Global Warranty so you can find service locations at https://www.msi.com/page/service-location-new
