That's the chipset (PCH), there's no TPM on the system. -
Actually there is one TPM 2.0 Module on it and i have the option to disable it via BIOS.
(GT62VR 7RE)
It seems to be embedded (iTPM) since around 2015 in the PCH´s

Interesting because this wasn't mentioned by MSI, and GT62VR 7RE has HM175 chipset. The datasheet didn't mention anything on iTPM except the connection available to add support for an external TPM.

i don't know if this is the right place .. but here goes :
ok guys . ever since i purchased and installed the new 980m msi card ( which i got from an official msi gt72 upgrade kit ) into my msi gt70 and upgraded it from 870m , i began having sound crackling problem when the card hit 80 celsius. after googling i found out that crackling happens because the overheated card sits right over the sound card. so i tried fixing the overheating problem
after a year of repasting and cleaning the laptop and trying gazillion types of thermal pads like ic diamond and etc.. nothing changed . my cpu sits at 50 on idle and i can't even touch the turbo boost mode and i disabled it and my cpu now runs on 2.7 ghz all time by setting the cpu usage to 99% only because when it's on and my cpu runs at 3.4 ghz its temp jumps to 70 on idle!
so here's my question .
i upgraded the firmware and bios right before installing the 980m which was an upgrade kit for the msi gt72 so naturally i didn't need to upgrade the vbios of the card nor installing any inf files . but i doubt that the increase in the heat that much is caused by the upgrade i made of the ec firmware and bios.
so i need someone to give me a stable ec and bios that can run my 980m and adjust these insane temps . since the bios is the only thing i can think of remaining that might fix that problem for me. i can't even play 5 minutes without the sound crackling and then disappearing from the heat of the card. i am honestly clueless . i need bios or even vbios for the card that can adjust stuff for me.
i'm a noob . i know it . but please help me. i'm desperate .
here's my bios ver and my gpu vbios version in the screenshots
edit : my laptop's original code was msi gt70 2pc . and i downloaded it's latest bios and flashed it from msi official website which is : e1763ims.51b
but hw info now reads it msi gt70 2QE!! should I instead flash the 2QE latest bios which is ;
E1763IMS.51D
would it be more suitable to my laptop ?? or would it brick it ?
edit 2 : i have no msi representative in my country . at all . they are all sellers .not warranty service providers. i'm from egypt and i get every single spare part i need from usa ( a replacement screen for my dead-pixeled one from amazon - a new battery from amazon which i had to smuggle practically with a friend to get it on a plan to here - new bay for my ssd's )
so before someone suggest i contact msi in my region . please don't suggest that because it's useless. -
Hey.
Dont get me wrong but try it on the official MSI forum. Not because of RMA but they know exactly
what it is about. The 99% CPU usage seems not natural and maybe somehow you got a bad bios.
They should be able to tell you what it is.
I would not recommend to run any game or heavy app until you solved that problem.
Thanks for the link. Yea thats truly interesting. Seems there are different revisions of the HM175
some with and some without TPM2 thru all the lane. I guess we are diggin to deep into the rabbithole.
Tried to find more info but theres none, since this info is not assumed to be important for us "mortals".
My guess is, that even disabled, it offers a security risk. I know im maybe being paranoid but it is what it is.
I´ll try to investigate more. Just for the fun of it. -
from previous experience I know msi forum won't help me . I need help from someone expert in here . please if you know someone who can help me out in this mess i'd be eternally grateful
-
What Windows version are you using?
Edit. BTW the latest version for win8.1 is E1763IMS.51D -
i'm using windows 10 upgraded from oem windows 8.1
my current bios ver is the latest msi gt70 2pc version which is E1763IMS.51b
btw the ec firmware - and i just noticed that - is 1763EMS1 Ver5.10, 01/17/2014.
the ec firmware didn't get updated with the bios's when i did the update right before i pulgged in the bew 980m!
so now i guess i have 2 options
1 - upgrade the ec firmware of msi gt70 2pc which will be
Firmware Title EC Firmware
OS Win7 64, Win8.1 64 Release Date 2015-01-30
Version 1763EMS1.517 File Size 0.23 MB
2 - upgrade both bios and ec firmware to those of a whole different laptop ( but it's what mine has become apparently ) which are :
bios version :
E1763IMS.51D
ec firmware ver :
Win7 64, Win8.1 64 Release Date 2015-01-26
Version 1763EMS1.517 File Size 0.23 MB
which is the same latest ec firmware for the 2pc . ( which i mentioned earlier didn't upgrade to and upgraded bios only ).
edit : my ec version is already : 1763EMS1.517 , but the build only is old . 01/17/2014 . the current ec version on msi website is the same version but newer build, 2015-01-30.Last edited: Jun 8, 2017 -
Mhhhhhhh... i´d use win7 and try ith with the 2015 version first.
Also i like Win 7 over W10. Properly configured it takes also under 15 seconds
too boot from an SSD. But thats just my opinion. -
ok i just need a bios/ec expert to tell me what is suitable for me so i don't brick the laptop and guide me through this senseless heat increase that disables and shuts down my audio when the gpu gets heated over 80
who can i send a message to / contact in the forum ?
edit : I don't own windows 7 and if I rolled back I might lose the original current windows 10 that is activated on my previous windows 8 embedded in my laptop.
and I highly think it's not a system's fault -

Don't worry, there's no known security issue since there's no AMT and TPM on this type of platform.

@MSIGeno @MSI Myco @MSI Natalie I'm having an issue with my laptop... maybe you could take a look? It would be appreciated.
Please let me know if it's a common issue, and I'd like to know if it's fixable without sending it back to you. I'm leaving to Europe in few days and I don't know what to do.
The laptop is a GT73VR-7RF 3 months old and I haven't used it much.

What happened? How did that go?
-
It´s a bit of lottery. At least they DO send out sometimes
parts in the US without forcing you to give up your device
thru shipping.
But not in the EU. And here in GER they do not send any
part out and send the devices all to Poland, because they
wages there are much lower.
Its absolutely not comparable to XoticPC or GenTechPC.RalfTech and Kevin@GenTechPC like this. -

Are there any MSI laptops on which Optimus is not required (ie, I could switch to just use the NV card always)? I'm on my second MSI laptop now (GS73VR) and it too has started having display issues (not detecting HDMI connection, sometimes no display on panel). I like MSI's support so far but I'd rather not need it at all. This is a desktop replacement used both for gaming and for work (CAD/programming), so it's always plugged in anyway.
-
At the moment 99% of the Notebooks with GSync do not have Optimus.
hmscott likes this. -
You could get the GT73VR or GT75VR with the GPU MUX switch. You select either dGPU (Nvidia) or iGPU (Intel) and reboot into it, then you can switch back and reboot again to switch.
That way you can run iGPU on battery or dGPU on AC.
No Optimus is involved
Note that we don't have any details on the GT75VR, I am assuming MSI continues that functionality with the new model from the GT73VR. MSI did drop the MUX switch from the GT80 to GT80S, so it might happen with the GT75VR, check to make sure it's included before purchase if that's important to you. If it's not included then it will be dGPU only - still no Optimus

Is there a reason MSI cut back on the 2 year warranty to a 1 year warranty? Given that the prices of laptops has been going up lately, it seems like you'll get less for your money now.
The 2 year warranty plus 1 year accident protection was a big MSI selling point. -
It's still 2 years in the USA + 3 months if you register within 14 (3?) days.
I got 2 years + 3 months - registered the day I bought it.
Asus has dropped down to 1 year quite a few years ago, but you can purchase a 2nd year for about $125(?). -
It makes no mention of that on MSI's site for the new models. For example, on MSI's US site, the GE63VR Raider is showing a 1 year warranty:
https://us.msi.com/Laptop/GE63VR-Raider.html#hero-specification&sku_no=13102
Even XoticPC is showing the new PCs with only a 1 year MSI warranty, unless you buy their 3 year protection.hmscott likes this. -
Maybe the low end laptops only get 1 Year now?
The warranty page still lists "most models" as getting 2 years:
"Global Warranty period : 1 year base-on purchase date.
2 year Limited warranty (Include 1 Year Global) on most models.
1 year Limited warranty (Include 1 Year Global) on select models."
https://us.msi.com/page/warranty -
I dunno - even the new GT and GS series were showing 1 year on the product page. It would be nice if MSI would clarify.
And starting around $2200 - I don't consider those new Raiders to be low end. Not at that price. GL and GP series maybe ... -
You could email MSI, if you have another registered product - file a ticket asking how to continue to get the "standard" 2 year warranty on new laptops.
-
MSI removed .44 vbios from the official GT72VR website, and now is back again after 2 months: https://www.msi.com/Laptop/support/GT72VR-7RE-Dominator-Pro.html#down-firmware
What is going on?!

No, it's the AUO 4K panel. IPS refers to LG's particular implementation of the technology. AUO calls theirs AHVA.

Any idea MSI when your going to send out Bios Updates for Skylake / Kabylake systems that have the Hyperthreading bug ? I have Skylake system with the effected issue, already sent in a Support ticket to which was a waste of time as they came back with a stupid response of that the 11D bios for my system has the fix already which bios in question was released in 2016-07-05 intel didn't send the Fix for the hyper threading bug till april this year!
tiliarou likes this. -
Maybe they were confused because skylake also had a previous bug that was addressed? The Hyperthreading bug is more recent, so they might have no fix yet. You should also help clarify that with support, and it is great that you brought the issue to their attention.

any idea when/where i can buy a 15.6" w/ kaby lake, 1070 gtx & 4k screen? I had to go with gigabyte last time--and it sucks.
-
Why did MSI go away from G-Sync screens in the new GS models?
It is very stupid in my opinion.
I like the new Raider series but without G-Sync it's a automatic reason to not buy in this day and age especially for the prices they are asking for this model. -

I emailed Ming Rong for the trade-in program but didn't get a response...it's been 2 weeks now. -

I would like to ask if you can already tell steelseries to make a European keyboard instead of using US layout in Europe.
I can't get used to use the smaller Enter key.

Does GE72MVR 7RG Apache Pro
https://www.msi.com/Laptop/GE72MVR-7RG-Apache-Pro.html#hero-overview
have Max-q 1070 (80/90 wat) version? I doubt is has 1070 notebook (115-120 wat). You should elaborate this in spec because people might get confused (Max-q is much about 20% slower vs notebook).hmscott likes this. -
I believe only the GS series has the Max Q GPU for now. The GE72 should have the stock 1070, though not sure how well it runs compared to bigger machines like the GT series.Falkentyne likes this.
-
I doubt it is full 1070. It is much hotter than 1060 which was in these laptops before...
-
The 17" laptops can cool a 1070, and were doing it for a year before the Max-Q laptops came out.
-
Even 15,6 can with proper cooling... For MSI GE was always "premium budget" series. I'm concerned because for example HP says GTX 1060 on their 15,6 Omen while Notebookcheck guys were surprised to get Max-Q 1060 variant instead 1060N.
-
The N and MQ aren't real, they are made up by various posters. The correct names are just using the number, like 1060 - which can be for laptop and desktop, both have varying TDP support depending on the board / laptop maker.
Max-Q is enough of a name applied to each number model.
The bad thing is vendors aren't being clear now where the Max-Q model is used verses the straight full model.
MSI didn't have anything at all on their product pages leading up to release, and I thought they were always going to be straight full GPU's, but it took so long to come out, many many months, that when they finally did come out they were Max-Q lower performance models.
So, be careful
