Thanks for the info Geno. There's a lot of conflicting information at the moment - so I have one last question. Is the CPU on the new model upgradeable? Pro-Star says it is and to me that's a deal breaker for future use.

Does anyone know of a heatsink mod that can be done to use the heatsink from an msi gt780dx with a geforce 570m in the same system with a geforce 770m?

Are we going to see a 15" model with G-Sync anytime soon?
I'm rather dissapointed we haven't seen a 15" version of the G72 yet, to tell you the truth I haven't ordered a G72 yet becuase ...
    1) very big for my needs
    2) using 4GB 980M instead of the 8GB.
The G-Sync models do look very tempting but....

Quick question, I can no longer download updates from http://us.msi.com/
When I click my model, and then the support or downloan tab, before it would show all the downloads there, but now it just says REGISTER NOW but with nothing down below it.

I have registered, but that link then when I go to my products page gives an error saying "invalid characters in address".

So, how do I now get software/driver/BIOS updates?

    Thanks

Use http://www.msi.com/index.php which is the global site maintained by the headquarter.
The US mirror may have sync issues therefore it's not recommended.

I bought a msi ge62 4 months ago. It shut down a month ago and hasn't powered on since. I waited 2 weeks sending it to geek squad but they denied it saying it's still under factory manufacturing. Now it seems I have to rma it? It's really outrageous. Can I get my full refund back? Id like to spend it on an acutal good gaming pc.

Can you provide a little more info about the issue? There's no way anyone here can help you unless you let us know why it shut down/what you were doing when it happened.

Well I was downloading something, and since it said it would take a while I put it on auto timer shutdown. The next day I tried turning it on and only the blue power on light was there. No video or sound that it was alive.

See if you can try this. Completely power off the system, remove the battery and unplug the AC power. Then Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds. After, plug back only the AC power cable (No battery) and try again to see if it will boot.

Ahh, sorry my mistake, i forgot that the battery for the GE62 was internal.

Power off the system fully and unplug the ac power. Find a small pin to reset the CMOS. Push and hold the pin in for 30 seconds and then plug the power back in and try to turn on the laptop.

That doesn't work either. I have an rma for the laptop. Instructions say to back it up. But how can I if I can't even open the back? That's what makes me mad about msi. Is it possible for full refund?

Back cover can be opened by removing the screws, including the one underneath warranty sticker.
Once removed, then you can remove the HDD and install it onto a PC in order to retrieve the data in there.
MSI repair center does not care if the sticker is broken.

That's right, as long as you don't damage anything else physically, such as a broken capacitor on the motherboard, or broken pin in the hard drive, etc.
But the sticker can be tempered/broken without voiding your warranty. In fact, you are permitted to upgrade the components in your PC when applicable.

Yup, i can back this. Its more of a deterrent for people who don't know what they are doing. As long as there is no user error damage, we will fix it and honor the warranty. However, if you take apart the laptop and messed something up yourself, than this will be an issue.

Geno, when will the new 2nd generation Killer N1535 Wireless -AC start appearing in MSI Notebooks

Presently the 1st generation N1525 is still being put in new shipping models

I'm told by Killer support it's exclusive to new MSI notebooks.

Here's what Killer Officially says about the N1535
    http://www.killernetworking.com/products/wireless-ac-1535

About 2 months ago Killer support said new Bluetooth drivers were coming.

    Still coming!

After Bigfoot Networks sold out to Qualcomm Atheros a few years ago it's been all downhill.

    Now drivers are generic Atheros.

Some of the development has now been handed off to Rivet Networks as indicated in the newer Killer E2200 drivers

Have the GT70. I have power options set to sleep when lid is closed. But when I open later all my programs are closed and the battery is still full/good charge. Why is sleep mode closing all open programs?

    Hi,

Im struggling alot with my GPU temperatures....It crashes when, (using MSI afterburner as monitoring software), GPU reaches 80C ish degrees. Which is something that happens within minutes of playing Witcher 3 on lowest settings. What can i do as a relatively inexperienced notebook owner (when it comes to changing things myself).
I have already made sure to have all the most recent updates in terms of my graphics card and Bios. Im wondering if i should download and flash a newer VBIOS? would that be of any help to improve my GPUs performance?

    my notebook is,Msi gt70 2od (gtx 780m)

edit: reasoning behind a new VBIOS would be that it unlocks the clocking limit ? or might be wrong...anyhow, any help super appreciated!

Ive tried both overclocking to the limit of +135 mhz and not overclocking at all, still reaches same temperatures.

The thing is, the temperature is normal. I still have my GT60 with 780m and it can easily reach 90s degrees and mine doesn't crash whatsoever. Does your computer crash, or the game, all games? We need more info, but 80 C is perfectly normal temps for 780m.

obviously i dont want to push it to the point of crashing due to the strain it puts and risk of actually permanently damaging, but when it crashes its the whole computer, just blackout. Most recently it took a good 5 minutes for me to be able to turn it on again. And im not sure what the reason for that was....

Edit: And it stays on at 82c but after that i havent dared running demanding tasks, so ive closed them and let it cool down. But when it crashed most recently, the last temperature i saw on msi afterburner was 91c.

edit2; (sorry for unclear posts) It has only crashed like this (the whole complete shutdown of the computer) when playing witcher 3, which i know is a very demanding game due to its flaws and high end nature. but yeah...

Hmmm how odd, I don't experience those issues and my temps are higher. I have ran my GT60 in the 90s range for over two years now and everything is ok. It sounds like there is a power issue with your machine. How is your battery and PSU holding up? My PSU died recently and I had to replace it.

At 91-92 it will self throttle to protect itself from damage, but it shouldn't be power itself down. I really doubt it's the GPU causing all of this.

Battery is in good shape, because i never have it in when my NB is plugged in, it holds a good 2h or so when fully charged and not on power saver mode...So i think that means its in good shape at least haha.
As for the PSU, that was something that occured to me, as a potential problem, but dont know how to check if it is "holding up" or not. If holding up means it works, then it is holding up. Sorry, im not much of help.

edit: could it be that a demanding game like witcher3 requires a higher voltage input?dont want to mess around with adjusting voltage, seems like a scary thing, probably would up frying something. But that could be another reason for complete shutdown when i think about it, had a old computer doing that.

If the power drain is too high it can use the AC adapter to shut off. You can observe this behavior by looking at the LED light on the AC adapter if it has such. To recover, you will only need to disconnect and reconnect the power adapter's ac connector from the outlet.
See if you can figure this out to get to the root cause.

dont have a LED light so its difficult to observe... Not really sure how i can figure out if its the root. Ill try tomorrow by trying different plugs in my home, with battery and without, and carefully adjust voltage input i guess and see if i can play the game for longer. thanks for your feedback so far guys

Another method you can try is when the whole thing shut down, just unplug the connector from the notebook side, then use a volt-meter to measure power output.

That is one of the main issues, and possibly the reason behind what you are experiencing. You are not supposed to remove the battery off of the laptop. The newer GT series from MSI use the PSU to the full power, and then leverage extra power directly from the battery, so that combined they can deliver enough juice to the machine.

Retry playing the game with your battery inside, plugged to the AC adapter, and with a good charge on your laptop.

It is always recommended to back up info at the very least. I can't speak for MSI but I imagine they wouldn't do anything to your info intentionally, but maybe you shouldn't send the machine with the HDD? Check with them if you can proceed this way.

thanks guys, turns out it was indeed voltage that was the problem. Been playing it fine with battery in, did not realise it was a requirement for more demanding tasks. My thought was just that since its plugged in battery is not needed and having battery in will just wear on it so when i do need a battery for lets say a journey it wont hold as much charge. But hey ho, learn something new everyday. thanks so much again guys! :)

Glad the problem was solved :) Yeah a lot of people are used to removing their battery when not in use, but to be honest, that is not needed to keep a healthy battery anymore. Even newer laptops are opting to leave the battery internal, which is a bit too extreme haha :p

MSI did not participate in E3, have not heard if they would join or not in the coming year.
Perhaps some of their employees went?
