It's obvious since notebook products are always a-step-behind when compared to desktop products, and they tend to be a more closed-platform.

@Geno - what hotkey should I be using to access the bios on the GS70?
I switched from UEFI to Legacy to flash my SSD firmware, but now can't get back into the BIOS to change it back! (DEL, F2, F10 - none of them seem to do anything) Thanks for your help

Edit. Forget it - I'm an idiot - was hitting Esc instead of Del - 20 mins of my like I'll never get back!

Hey Geno, Im looking for a new laptop to replace my Alienware m11xR2. Ive had it for about 4-5 years now, and it has terrible overheating issues. To the point where it will auto-shutoff due to the heat. Do the slim form factor notebooks like the gs60 or gs70 have any issues with overheating? i just dont want to get the same problem as i had before with the alienware.

The GS60 and GS70 user threads will most likely provide the answers you seek, regarding current models. My thought would be to wait for these models when equipped with the new NVidia (Maxwell) 9xx series. I've seen the benchmarking temps on the new 980M, and compared to previous GPU's, it's amazing..... more efficient, more powerful, much cooler...... I think you will be pleasantly surprised.

    :)

Like -=$tR|k3r=- said, there is valuable information about the GS60/70 models in the official user threads! Our current GS60/GS70's are great laptops that many of us here at MSI use both for work or personal and none of us have any complaints about them!

    Hey there,
Question: With The new gpu's coming up I am interesten if Msi is going to take another try at the WQHD screen on for example a GT72. I think it's actually the first card that can take that resolution on its own at a decent feat and hope you can either supply me with a very probable or try to convince them that this is a great market decision.

And if not on the GT72 will GS60 keep its WQHD res on the newer GPU's

    Hey Jesha,

The reason why we current dont offer WQHD screens on the GT72 is because of the low/erratic supply of panels at the 17" size. once there is more of a stable supply, we will heavily consider it! :)

Overheating can be a common issue if the heatsink/vent becomes dirty due to clogging.
Best to clean up your system to prolong its usability and life expectancy.
GS60 & GS70 will have the same issue once their thermal system becomes inefficient.

So far, MSI only has that 3K on the GS60 Ghost, that's it.
And as jesha said, hopefully MSI can do that on the 17" because it will work better with the eyes due to larger size, and more usable because it's going to be powered by better GPUs.

    MSI GT60 dominator pro also has a 3k IPS but There isn't a GT62.
Will there be a possibility that MSI will lauch a 15.6 inch laptop with 3k and a I.E double cooling, move streamlined design(doesn't have to be thin just gs60 is too thin and the place where your hand rests can get quite warm)
And i really want to have a WQHD laptop with gtx 980m

Maybe there will be a GT60 with 3k and 980m. I'm just guessing here as I only know of one GT60 model with 970m but "only" FHD display (can't disclose model number). A GT72 derivate on 15.6...who knows :)

Hi Geno, great to have you. I just wanted to ask you something.
Would I void my warranty if I opened up my laptop, removed the ODD and replaced it with a HDD caddy?
And, could you also tell me the size of the caddy that the GT60 2OC-022US comes with, I mean 9.5mm or 12.7mm? Thanks in advance.

Hey, as long as you replace it and no damages occur, we will not void the warranty. if you break anything during the modification, we will not honor your warranty anymore.

    The size is 9.5mm.

    Your welcome

Hi Geno thanks for joining us.
I am trying to find a physical store where I can purchase the new Ghost Pro 046 tomorrow (Wednesday) in north New Jersey or New York City.
I am flying the following day.

Is there any place where you think I can find one ? I don't need any customization just the stock laptop.
I searched your official retailers (best buy, microcenter etc...) but found nothing about the new models.

    Thank you
    JD

    Hey Geno,

I have a question concerning all the Canadians here. Where can I find a MSI in store here in Toronto with the new 900m already?

The only store I know is Canada Computers, which is offering only 800m though...

If someone else has the answer, please share

    Thank you!

Are IPS displays for the GT72 available only with the 4980HQ CPU models or will they be available with base 4710HQ models as well?
Will resellers have the option for buyers to upgrade the GT72 with a IPS display?
    I really want a IPS display ;)

How soon can we expect an IPS GT72 model? By the end of October (I hope)?

    Hi Geno,

This may be a stupid question as my knowledge of hardware is very limited, but would it be possible to replace the screen on a GT72 2QE by a 120Hz screen? Thanks!

the layout is usually the culprit

the british layout I find it tolerable, but the one I enjoy using is the US international layout, which I have been trained to use since little, I dont even like using the brazilian layout

Hey Dorj1234, i wont know exactly which retail stores will have it in stock physically. You would have to check with each one :(

    Hey Matolati,

Sorry, i am unfamiliar with Canada retail stores, but i think NCIX will most likely carry it.

    Dabeer,

Regarding cooling, there has been no chang in the GS60 cooling, although naturally the new GPU will run cooler.

    IKASV

Unforunately, we only have the IPS display on the 4980HQ cpu model. I cannot comment on if we plan on having the IPS displays on other models.

    Extrospector,

    most likely mid-late november

    NorrinRadd,

This is most likely a question for the modding community here, as officially, we do not offer any screen modifications. hopefully someone on the forums can chime in on this.

You mentioned there has been no change to the cooling of the Gs60,this suggests the motherboard layout could potentially be the same. Is there anyway we can find out if this is the case and if I can upgrade my motherboard later down the line? What wattage is the new 970m?

970M is 100W TDP, see below source.
    NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970M - NotebookCheck.net Tech

GS60's CPU/GPU are both soldered directly, so you can't really upgrade the CPU/GPU at all.

Thanks MSIgeno, bummer about the IPS screens being only with the 4980HQ models, seems like a missed opportunity from MSI to have IPS available for all models or at least have a option for the lower spec models.
Don't get me wrong I love the GT72 but only having the IPS display on the $3000+ is a bit silly and should be available with some more affordable models.

Yes I know they're soldered on that's why I'm looking into the prospect of a whole new motherboard. If the cooling design hasn't changed and it's still a 4th Gen CPU I'd wager in it being a straight swap.

I agree, having IPS panels on some of the more affordable notebooks is definitely a goal for us. We want to bring as much features and tech to as many of our product lines as possible.

yes, you can. as long as when you do it, you do not cause any damage yourself to the notebook, we will still honor your warranty.
